ohhh! if you lived in the start of 80's under the Reagan administration, you'd really understand how REVOLUTIONARY he was. Also the band was only for touring. This album, Prince did ALL vocals and played ALL instruments. My personal face albums. Remember when we got. My fave Prince era in terms of style too!

You're right about James Brown being an influence for Prince on stage, he also worked his bands on reharshals until they knew hundreds of songs so he could switch his concert setlist like he wanted to, not to mention his after-shows on smaller venues : he often played from 11PM to 3AM in any town he was touring.
I recommend you to check out the "Automatic" video...

The “Dirty Mind” album is pure 🔥. He was new wave before new wave was a thing.

Great reaction again Xavier! Just subscribed! Love your reactions! You should check out his performance at the Special Olympics 1991. The name of the video with the full (14min) performance is, "Prince - Diamonds And Pearls ~ Baby I'm A Star / The Full Moon Show ~ Detroit & Minneapolis part2" It is posted by the channel "Vintage Far East" It is a show he did for people with special needs. He kills it!

I’d love to see your reaction to the Rave Un2 the Year 2000 concert film. After he plays Gett Off, they go into this medley of songs (including James Brown’s Talkin Loud and Saying Nothin), and Prince hits the craziest sequence of splits you’ve ever seen….and he was 41 at the time. 😳

I probably would go on and say possibly around 1979 when this came out but definitely heading into the 80’s.

Great reaction video. Those were stripper stockings he's wearing , not thigh boots. This is from 1980. The entire Dirty Mind album is a trip. Other tracks you might want to check out from this album are: Uptown, When U Were Mine, Head , and Sister. You are also very right, James Brown was one of his inspirations.
