I’ve seen a lot of Prince reaction videos, but none has made me cry like yours did. I love this song, but this performance is my absolute favorite of “Purple Rain” and seeing your reaction to this hit me hard & even harder was when you said that you wish you had been able to see him live because I wish you could’ve seen him live. Seeing Prince live was an event. It was something special and it was otherworldly at his concerts. I wish that you and I and the rest of the world could experience that greatness one more time and for the first time. It would change your life because it changed mine. There are so many amazing artists that have come before us, but Prince is one of a kind that can never be duplicated or replaced. I’m so glad you’re experiencing the greatness of this man and I hope you continue to do so. Thank you for making this video. 💜💜💜

The interesting thing about this song is with the lyrics. If you replace “girl” with “God” it becomes a song about being faithful and honoring God after a life of unfaithfulness and promiscuity. He wrote the song with this dual meaning in mind

The performance is from the Sign O The Times concert movie which is stunning from start to finish. I definitely recommend watching the whole thing. This performance is actually a mash up of the super spiritual ‘Forever in my Life’, it’s just so damn soulful, and the sexy song ‘It’. So it goes from him declaring his love in the first song to singing about sex (It). This performance is so perfect, so emotional and raw. You even see Prince himself wiping away a tear! This is really high on my favourite Prince performances and that’s really high praise because I love everything about him. The lady with the fabulous voice is the late Boni Boyer. This is from 1987 by the way. Loved your reaction and don’t bother about crying … that’s the real emotion that listening to and watching Prince brings. That’s one of the reasons I love him, he speaks to my soul. I remember you crying listening to ‘The Love We Make’ and crying along with you. You don’t just listen to Princes music, you feel it on a spiritual and deep level. That’s one of the reasons he is so damn awesome 💜
