    PRINCE = THE GOAT

    Prince not only conducts his band (mostly using hand gestures and simple phrases), but by the end, he's also conducting the audience (none of whom had ever heard him perform this song). The "just like Richie" reference is to Richie Havens, who performed what many consider the definitive version of this 19th-century spiritual at the original Woodstock festival in 1969.

    I think "Motherless Child" is one of Prince's most inspired performances. He had many but this one was so powerful. Whatever was going on with him that night clearly took him someplace outside of himself, and he drew the audience into whatever place that was. I think that's why he had to walk away at the end so he could come back to himself. It wasn't so much watching a performance as it was watching him release some pain of his own. What a lucky audience to have witnessed and taken part in this journey with him.

      The way he pinpointed the year he left home in the lead up talk crushed me. This is a Top 10 P video clip ever just on passion.

    I absolutely say you must watch Montreux Jazz Festival 2009 for Empty room, Elixir straight after it too. Also ‘I love u, but I don’t trust I anymore’! ‘Dreamer’ live on Jay Leno too. Also Montreux 2013 show 3 rock set with 3rdeyegirl! That’s blistering! 🎸 This performance is phenomenal. His vocals, his guitar playing, him orchestrating the audience! What you didn’t mention is how he is arranging the song ‘on the fly’ bringing musicians in and out. Watch his cues. Little nods, arm movements etc. The band obviously know the song as they rehearsed it, but he’s changing parts all the way through. Look for his gestures and cues, it’s just freakin’ genius level 💜 This is a masterclass, plain and simple. Jeez I miss this man so much, as if I lost a family member! The loss to the music world when he passed is indescribable 😢🥺😢

    It was a long time ago when I saw him live, his live concerts were unique. The last concert I saw of Prince was with "The new Power Generation", as I have always been a fan of Rosie Gaines, this concert was special for me. Greetings from Heidelberg / Germany

    PRINCEY doing his thang. Have you seen Bambi (Live at the Tokyo Dome 1990), The Everlasting Now | Tonight Show with Jay Leno [2002], I love you but I don't trust you anymore Montreux, Empty Room Montreux 2009 or 3121 BET Live performance? These are few more exciting PRINCE performances. Enjoy!

    I've been in love with him since I was 13 years old and first heard I Wanna Be Your Lover. My first poster of him came in the Controversy album. I'll never forgot the look on My Father's face. Bless Mom... she said to him "leave her alone". I've had the privilege of seeing him many times in concert during different, what we Prince Fams call "Eras" of his career. I am still grieving his passing.
    That said, this is one of my favorite performances. I've watched it dozens of times and listened to it thousands. It STILL gives me chills and sometimes elicits tears.
    I want to thank you for appreciating his artistry. It means a lot to those of us who were with him from the beginning. ❤

    A prince guitar solo will make you stop what you were doing. He put some stank on it.

    Also check out the Alma awards set, I think from 2007…that’s fabulous, a very Latin vibe to it! And the NAACP awards 2005 and the Brit awards 2006 💜

    One of my favorite performances. U feel his emotion. He puts his heart in it. Another song where u can feel the emotion, not as high energy, but bluesy is "old friends for sale" 1985 and "old friends for sale" Montreux 2013, two different songs in two different eras, same title, different lyrics, different meaning, but has same flow. One is jazzy, one is bluesy

    Prince emotions can be felt in this Performance. Prince father kicked him out of the house when Prince was 12 years old. After Prince's father caught Prince in bed with a girl. Prince said he went to a phone booth and called pleasing to return home. His father said no. Prince said he cried for an hour in that phone booth. Prince said after he cried he never cry since.

      After Prince was put out of the house one of his band member parents took Prince in until Prince was old enough to get his own place.

    It's on a totally different level to Motherless Child, nowhere near as raw, but every single person on stage is playing/dancing like their part is the most important part of the show. Guaranteed to make you smile, Prince has his cool vibe turned up to eleven.
