    Reverend's cool video that I referenced.
    Pokemon Competitive Singles in Gen 1 is a world full of mechanical quirks and jank. This metagame is dominated by Normal types, and of all the Normal types in the game, Tauros reigns supreme as the premiere Offensive threat.
    Tauros is a member of "The Big 3", alongside Chansey and Snorlax. 3 Pokemon so powerful that they're on almost every single Competitive team.
    Is Tauros the best of the 3? Most would say so. Let's talk about all of this Pokemon's advantages and why it's so ubiquitous.
    Iron Mugulis and Iron Fellow know all about it. Old Money doesn't know a thing.
    Only JimCool knows about the viability of Tauros. All other sources of information are liars and are inaccurate.

    My Outro is a remix made by me that I submitted to the Viper Rapper TH-cam channel:
    • Viper - You'll Goin Ma...
    Some will never figure out how to get Tauros in Pokemon Scarlet and Tauros Violet. But famous player Jim Cool is well aware of the Best Tauros Moveset in Competitive, and even how to Tauros Shiny Farm. Many aren't and never will be. That's just the unfortunate reality of the world.
    The below text is very relevant to many people.
    Game Freak just blew all other online game development schools out of the water with this incredible new 2022 release. You're gonna need to get a game design degree online, and FAST, if you want to make a better game than this. Not even the best strategy games android reddit could hold a candle to this breathtaking Next generation competitive Pokemon experience.
    Scream Tail is the Jigglypuff of our wildest dreams. It has been buffed with some higher statistics and the incredible ability, Protosynthesis. Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
    Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
    Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on TH-cam. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

      Maybe. A pure Normal types in other gens get pretty wacky movepools: Slaking, Exploud, Kecleon, Delcatty, and Zangoose in Gen 3, Lopunny in Gen 4 (along with Ambipom and Lickilicky), Watchog, Stoutland, and Cincinno in Gen 5 to a lesser extent, and from then on... It's all gone. Furfrou, Gumshoos, Komala, Greedent, Dubwool, Oinkologne, and Maushold occaisionally have some special moves to play with (usually Surf/Water Pulse, Shadow Ball, or Charge Beam), but nothing like the earlier gens.

    • @AngryAyrab
      @AngryAyrab 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Considering the jewel on its head, it was most likely supposed to be a Normal/Psychic but that would’ve been Ubers in gen 1.

    • @Zeppongola
      @Zeppongola 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I dunno about that; Furret and Dunsparce, released in gen 2, have access to both, as does Linoone and Slaking from gen 3, for example. Those were four of the first pokemon from gens 2 and 3 listed on bulbapedia's "normal type" page, so I'd presume they aren't exceptions, either. Normal types just tended to have pretty good coverage, at least in early gens, probably to make up for lack of super effective STAB.
      I do wonder though how gen 1 would have gone if we remove the big 3's special attacking options; presumably Cloyster and Rhydon would turn into true counters, but not sure if it'd make Rhydon be considered the unequivocal best gen 1 OU 'mon or anything

    • @GoldanSaint
      @GoldanSaint 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Zeppongola I imagine that they would just run things like amnesia, reflect or rest more if they had a lack of special attack coverage to survive longer. And Chansey could still probably beat Cloyster with Seismic Toss if it isn't exploding.

    • @Zeppongola
      @Zeppongola 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GoldanSaint True about Chansey v Cloyster, the latter probably can't really hit the former well. Could hope for a lucky freeze maybe (or exploding on an injured one). Tauros I think can't learn reflect, though it does look like Rhydon's earthquake weakness lets it down: 'lax after reflect does look like it counters Rhydon if its running earthquake, and Tauros and Rhydon both 3hko (well, not guaranteed in Tauros' case, but good odds to do so) each other with it, but Tauros is faster.
      Maybe Zapdos would actually be a better matchup considering reflect due to earthquake immunity and hitting on the special side, though even then, a BS-para could turn the tables

    Feel like Fell Stinger is something close to the design of gen 1 Beam, where KOing the enemy comes at great benefit but it can be easily baited and punished. Can’t imagine it’s ever seen legit use outside of sporadic Mega Beedrill though.

    • @matthewkuscienko4616
      @matthewkuscienko4616 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

      I feel like a big reason why you never see fell stinger used much is because it's a weak attack that you have to try to KO something with; this also seems to be the main reason why it was used on Mega Beedrill at all -- because it's high attack stat and adaptability to double the power of it's STAB moves meant it needs less chip damage to grab a KO on something and get that juicy +3 attack boost

    What i think is crazy is that in gens 1 and 2, they never gave pokemon immunities to status conditions (i.e. Poison cant get poisoned), they just gave them immunity to any status condition that is on a move with the same typeing as theirs. A great example of this is how body slam having a 30% chance to paralyze will never paralyze a Chancey since Chancey is immune to normal moves status conditions. Its just a quirk that makes the big 3 better because normal moves are everywhere in gen 1.

    This is the thing that confuse me the most about talking about Pokémon from generation 1 through 3
    Tauros, Snorlax, Tyranitar are without a doubt the strongest polarizing Pokémon in their respective generations one through three. Why aren't they banned to Ubers? We recognize that if a metagame is surrounded by one Pokémon is an unhealthy metagame and it should be banned.
    We're not afraid to ban Pokémon now even though they thrived over 20 years ago. Mr. Mime was banned in generation 3 about a year ago I believe.
    From generation 4 and beyond we weren't afraid to ban a Pokémon if it was too metagame defining
    Why are these Pokémon and these generations the exception.
    If we can keep Gen 1 Tauros in OU why can't we keep Gen 4 Garchomp

      There's a really good BKC video on why Snorlax isn't Ubers in Gen 2

      Nice question but I think they aren't banned because they hold their respective metagames together

      Gen 1 tauros takes skill and has counters
      Gen 2 snorlax doesn't have counters. But you can't make a set that counters everything
      And gen 3 Tyranitar has very exploitable weakneses

      Reasonable Tauros counterplay exists
      Reasonable Snorlax counterplay exists
      Reasonable Tyranitar counterplay exists
      Reasonable Garchomp counterplay, does not exist
      could it have existed if the metagame was left as is for long enough? maybe, but by then the mentality had shifted and so it was deemed not worth sticking with for
      Besides, all of these pokemon help with their respective metagame health, the centralization isnt the issue if they contribute something good to the metagame
      Tauros is a good breaker that prevents bulky mons like chansey from walling and paralyzing everything, it also helps vs snorlax from clicking reflect and sitting on everybody thanks to its high crit rate
      Gen 2 snorlax helps to stop all the special threats that exist in gen 2, if snorlax was removed, the most splashable counterplay to special attackers would be blissey, and then gen 2 would truly become all stall, which no one wants
      and in gen 3, tyranitar also helps keep defensive play from being too good, sand helps chip down ubiquitous walls like blissey and suicune that would otherwise just sit on everybody, it also helps break down sand immune walls like skarmory with its excellent movepool and just overall makes teams more solid, its not like tyranitar is mandatory in all gen 3 teams like the other 2 either, plenty teams dont use tyranitar and are just as good
      Gen 4 Garchomps only contribution to the metagame was clicking substitute on sandstorm and getting lucky with sand veil to swords dance up and kill everybody with outrage, its defensive utility from its good typing was not worth having to deal with the offensive sets and so it was banned
