I'll always remember my first playthrough of Platinum as a kid, I found Hariyama for the first time and thought he looked super strong. I nicknamed him "Sumo Man" and expected him to be incredibly powerful. To my disappointment he didn't really do anything. He was slow and his moves sucked. But this was because I had no idea what I was doing as a kid. After discovering competitive pokemon I am so happy to know how to use him appropriately now. He's one of may favorite Pokémon because he was one of the first pokemon that made me interested in competitive- because even as an 11 year old I was thinking "this thing can't possibly be bad, he looks so strong, maybe I'm doing something wrong?" Then I went down the rabbit hole of learning EV/IV's abilities, held items, physical/special split, etc. lol

Gen 3 is so much fun, ur tournament has inspired me to try out so many archetypes. Higher elo games have taught me so much about scouting for traps, coming from a mostly team preview background (started comp singles bw1). Way more accessible than gen 2, but slower than gen 9. Still filled with hacks given crit rate/dmg + para spam. I like how balanced the meta game is overall though, nothing feels unbeatable. My favorite play style so far is physical offense, but a bulky Hariyama wish support team with spikes /sand rampant is satisfying to see chip accumulate as opposed to one shoting everything.

Hariyama is such a well-designed Pokémon. I've got nothing else to add, really. I already had a soft spot for it and thought it was a bit underrated in the past, but hearing an explanation of how perfectly it fits in the metagame of the generation it was introduced in makes me appreciate it even more.
But then again, I always had a soft spot for slow, tanky, but hard-hitting Pokémon, so I'm aware I have kind of a bias. 😂

i definitely agree that hariyama should be OU. It has much more versatility than the other fighting types, having 2 good abilities and multiple different moveslots, making it unpredictable and awkward to switch into. being able to always do something against common fighting checks as opposed to a breloom spore or any other fighting type gimmick make it the most consistent fighter out there. it has a surprising amount of switchin opportunities vs tyranitar, blissey, and snorlax (albeit more shaky here), which is more valuable in a gen 3 environment where you want to dish out progress multiple times in a battle. i hope hariyama rises soon because it definitely deserves it, I would personally rank it above joleton, cloyster, and gyarados at the moment.

Gen 3 introduced great fighting types and fighting type moves. Gen 2 had a severe balance issue where Normal types were overpowered, because the Fighting type was horrible before Gen 3. basically, Gen 2 Normal was Gen 1 Psychic. And Gen 2 Snorlax was Gen 1 Mewtwo of its generation.
Gen 2 Snorlax is so overcentralizing it requires at least 3 dedicated team mates to deal with. Skarmory, Snorlax itself, and a strong attacker which can hit it hard. All 3 have to be tailor made just to deal with Snorlax or you auto lose.
But Gen 2 Snorlax is fair and balanced in OU. Gen 2 OU is more balanced with it than without, even though it is the worst case of overcentralization in competitive Pokemon history. Even Gen 1 Mewtwo could be beaten with a Gengar using Hypnosis and Night Shade. That's one teammate, not three. Gen 1 Mewtwo is less overcentralizing than Gen 2 Snorlax is in OU
    Gen 2 Snorlax is Uber

    • @AmberLB93
      @AmberLB93 ปีที่แล้ว

i won't play gen 2 ou because there is no fun to be had. i have no teambuilding options whatsoever because everything fucking revolves around snorlax like a black hole. this is the unhealthiest metagame i have ever seen
balanced hackmons with imposter isn't even as bad as gen 2 snorlax
if you ban snorlax it will just get replaced by ursaring as snorlax lite, the metagame won't fucking crumble without this black hole of a crutch bending the fabric of reality around it with its overpoweredness
Gen 2 Snorlax is actually worse than Gen 1 mewtwo, AND gen 8 zacian. both have more available counterplay that is less overcentralizing even when allowed in fucking OU. gen 2 snorlax is the most overpowered legitimate pokemon of all time in its respective meta

gen 2 snorlax could have been manageable, if taunt and better fighting moves like focus punch existed in gen 2. if focus punch was in gen 2 i would not complain about it at all. the problem is that it is a perfect pokemon in gen 2 where power creep hasn't balanced it out yet.
sorry for this tangent about gen 2 snorlax, it only came up because i was thinking that if hariyama existed in gen 2, snorlax would actually be OU and not anything goes material, but kids on showdown use it as a crutch so they voted to keep it in OU. i wish i could manipulate votes to keep zacian in OU but i'm not that kind of person, i just play the monster fisticuffs game
both gen 2 snorlax and imposter in balanced hackmons have the same problem: they are clearly overpowered if you use common sense, but they are also easy win buttons, aka crutches, so the people using them vote to keep them in the format, regardless of whether they are actually too strong for the format. votes are being manipulated to keep these easy win buttons legal in those formats, despite the fact that they warp and distort the metagame around them they are so overpowered.
Imposter should be banned from Balanced Hackmons, with Transform being allowed in its place since it takes a turn to set up. Transform is balanced in Balanced Hackmons; Imposter is not.
      Gen 2 Snorlax is Uber.

Since duskull has a 100% winrate in tournauments, it should be banned as overpowered.

Is it me or Gen 3 is the only past Gen OU with the luxury of tier shift? Because clearly Gen 4 would need one.

"funny guy" might have amazing stats but with a defence of 1 priority moves is its bane, but get rid of that and your opponent is DOOOOMED unless it only have crapy moves ofc hehe

hariyama isn't even that bad in vgc, it's diet iron hands with one or two tools that iron hands doesn't have but a worse version of a top 5 pokemon isn't that bad and maybe your team needs knock off or wide guard which would make hariyama the better choice
