    I got this for metal and rock, the sound cuts through everything. The high tunings on a thick single ply are where this snare really shines, it's snappy and articulate.

    Been playing one of these as my main snare for years. Once you dial in the tuning and dampening they sound immaculate. A perfect pop. Best 150 bucks I've ever spent.

      Hey alex if you wouldn't mind texting back I've been working on this snare for A LONG time and haven't dialed it in. I've tried dampeners and other loosening/ tightening tactics. If you wouldn't mind lending some knowledge I would be greatly appreciate for it. Ive tried variations of looser or tighter tops and bottoms. I got desperate and tied a wife beater t shirt over the top to get some sort of dry punchy sound. I can't get away from the pingy ness of the steel frame. Any tips would help me out a lot. Peace love and a banjo ✌️

      @@jadaweaver2796 I use a very large 42 strand snare wire with a coated Remo Ambassador as the batter. I put light dampening (one moon gel or one piece of creased duct tape) on the batter and tune to a medium to medium-high range. Experiment with something like that. I also switched out the hoops for heavier die cast hoops but I'm unsure if that made a difference or not.

    I think this snare is a lot more versatile than people give it credit for. It sounds great at literally all tuning levels which not many snares do. Also I dont find the sustain and the overtones to be too overpowering. It just sounds like a deeper drum than a 5" which to me isn't a bad thing.

    Suena precioso en todas las afinaciones

  • @jc3drums916

    For anyone wanting a similar drum and isn't tied to brand or artist, Gretsch makes a black nickel over steel snare that sounds quite good, and is really affordable.

  • @guitaristbiker

    from tight'ish up to pingy, where did you run the snare side head through those tension ranges?
    Ive had one of these snares for 12 or so years, love the sound and versatility, also the quality is very solid, good edges, things like the holes for the throwoff and butt plate being aligned, i have much more expensive snares that have edge issues and the holes for the throwoffs and butt plates arent aligned properly causing issues with tensioning the wires right🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @SimonSpringerMusic
      @SimonSpringerMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The snare side head was always the same, which is cranked up very high.
      It's a very well made snare and nearly unbeatable at this price point 💪.

    I just picked up the best used one I've ever seen in the wild. No real wear, looks like it was used and put up shortly after. Very minimal stick marks or anything. Also should add I use the pdp acrylic 7 by 13 on one of my kits as well. Very happy to have this addition.

      @e.m.p.5318 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thepluggy1 it really depends on what you can get out of a drum. At the time it was a reasonable priced acrylic snare offered in a few different sizes. They have a nice 70s sound you can get out of them. I wouldn't call it his best signature model. Still happy with it. I use it more in a tight dead register.

    Pearl makes great snares! This one sounds good muffled; not a fan of the BFSD, except as sort of an approximation to a drum machine.

    I need to buy one. I love his style and personality. I thought the same about the Gretsch Taylor H signature snare. Had no interest in it. Loved the drummer. Not interested in a ss snare. Looked online to see if I could find one used. Which I’ve always seen em used for $150 ish. Now… $500+ in the used market. 😯. Chads stuff is gonna be collectible and valuable when he… ya know.

      Ya no se fabrica, así que te recomiendo buscarla de 2ª mano. Solía ser el 1er modelo "Signature" de Chad Smith cuando estaba con Pearl. Mucho más tarde le estrenaron otro modelo muy original en "Free Floating", y poco después firmó un contrato con DW, quién le hizo los 3 modelos de acrílico trasparente que aparecen al principio del vídeo.

      Chad never used it, truth. He told me in person in 2000 - my insignificant band played a festival tour with his band. He played a Ludwig black beauty then. I played his signature drum and naively told him I did. The Chad Smith signature Pearl drum is amazing - it doesn’t need his name on it to be good. Hit it hard - it sounds better.

      It's definitely not a high end snare and was aimed more at the "fan" in a lower price range - but with Chad's sound and concept in mind. I get your point, but for the price it's actually a good snare.
