@@JJ-vg9du You mean in 2009? I have a Chad Smith signature kit. But they also made a PDP snare, a see-through one. And a red Chad Smith signature snare too.
This snare has sound great and the hoop produce nice clear rim-shot. Since this snare has strong attack sounds and clarity, it has less sound in middle&low. So I put a black head, which amplifies middle&low and produces controlled - sound, it sounds damn goooooood!!!
I had this snare for years, before the stainless rods and brass lug inserts. It was a very 'warm' sounding steel snare. It had great pop and sensitivity, just as this video shows. If you play a lot of ghost notes, this is the snare for you. I have had brass and aluminium snares (and wood), and usually end up coming back to generic steel snares as they are often a lot cheaper and they are less susceptible to dents in he shell on the strainer / butt plate if they get dropped! Maybe it's just me, but I feel the lack of a bead around the edge has an affect on the sound, for the better. It reminds me so much of the sound Mitch Mitchell got on the 'Are you Experienced?' album.
I have had one for years. Mu favorite of all time. I have had really ezpensive snare drums that sound like crap compared to this. I paid 120.00 bucks for it brand new..
I have both reso and batter heads Ambassadors, coated for the batter side and clear for reso, upgrade your strands to Puretone, 20 strands or even 16 work great. Crank up the reso head and set the top head to your prefrence, mid or high tunnig. Half Moongel if needed. That will really make this snare sound beautiful
I use this snare with Evans Hazy 300 and Evans HD Dry in the batter. With both heads very tight and I upgrade with Puresound 20 strands. No moongel or something like. Love this drum! It rocks!
Dry, snappy and f-ing gorgeous snare drum. Full stop.
Great snare. If tuned right, this snare can be played for almost any genre of music.
Isis Cruz soad, three days grace, volbeat, paparoach, bullet, seether?
@@jeanphilippelandry8295 yeah because no other bands or styles of music use high tuned, responsive snare sounds....
excellent snare drum
Now that Chad has decamped for D.W., I bet this snare drum gets discontinued. I really love this drum.
You can almost always get it used.
Why all the defecting to DW ?

reddieseled I still have a beat up TAMA mastercraft from the 80's ......
exactly, i've always gravitated towards metal snares for some reason, and steel just always is so fantastic, esp for price to tone ratio!
I just bought a used Pearl 6.5" seni-steel. Giving it a test soon.
this drum sounds really good with a clear Remo controlled sound
God damn this snare....
This snare paired with an Evans EC Reverse Dot batter head sounds amazing
This was very helpful💯✊🏾.

I have the Morgan Rose snare, which is very similar to this, and it also is my favourite snare out of all that I own.
Sounds good to me
👍‼️👍‼️👍‼️
Whats different about this from a standard pearl steel 14x6.5 apart from a black finish I don't care about that?
Here in my city in Canada, there are literally 3 of these for sale on my local classifieds.
All ranging from $190, to $230..
Rhythmista i agree. Qc, canada. One for 225 with stand. One with new head, great drummer that tuned it for 250.
