Margaret, many of your followers have had experiences much like yours. They’ve lived through all the different mistakes in their lives. They mean no harm, they are just trying to prevent you from having to go through things that turned out bad for them. However, everyone needs to understand that this is YOUR life. As with everything in our lives, we only learn from our OWN mistakes. So, everyone just needs to chill and save their comments. You will come to realize how some things should have been done differently. And, that will be okay. All of us just need to listen and be quiet. Then, when things get crazy for you, just be here for you and NOT say, “We told you so”. Please just try to keep in mind that everyone here just cares about you. They only want the best for you!!! ❤️

      Hi Margaret,
The bottom line this arrangement is temporary!!! You are an intelligent woman and I think that you know what you doing. It is YOUR life. I would not want to live in a basement but that is ME. I live in a rental house that is 130 years old, I LOVE it but I am certain that a lot of people would not love this house the way I do!! Whatever floats your boat! Elizabeth in Texas

You have a great attitude Margaret. I had to live with my bro and sis in law, their daughter and twins while our home was being built here in central Oregon. My husband had to travel back and forth because his office//business was 3 hours away and we had sold our home also. (My hubby slept at his office and came over every other week!) It took a year and a half. (It was only supposed to be a year). I kept telling myself, "it's only temporary" and it was. We are happily settled in our new home and it's cozy and perfect for the two of us. Their offer to let me occupy their guest room saved us thousands of dollars in rent and I bonded with my great niece and nephew in a way that I didn't ever imagine. I'm more like a surrogate gramma than a great aunt and it's wonderful! Good on you for being practical and frugal. Hang in there!

Your lower level room is so cozy looking. And going up and down the stairs will keep your legs strong. While our kitchen was being remodeled because of the drywall dust etc my husband and I stayed in our family room in our lower level with no bathroom. We enjoyed our family room like never before and my legs are stronger than ever. I hope your living situation is soon what you want it to be.

There were five kids in my family, one bathroom. Before we moved to that house, there were three kids and an outhouse. Mom bathed us in a washtub on the kitchen floor, with water heated on the wood cookstove. We all survived and I'm pretty sure you will too! Have a great day.

Margaret, do your thing. I’ve always had a nice home in South Carolina but now I’m the only one in the family so I’m now in Arizona living in a nice gated and guarded village with everything. I’m in a Casita in my daughter and son-in-laws yard large bedroom, good size closet, full bathroom. I have an apt fridge keep my soups in the nice piece of furniture my 65” curved tv is on 2 recliners and still plenty of room. I love no kitchen no stove and oven to clean all these years working coming home cleaning and cooking taking kids to ball games on and on. I don’t run in to bother my only child and son in law they are retired. She cooks for me because she loves cooking. I have a microwave. I love it and you will too. They retired young now they enjoy life . I do too.

You can do it! I lived with my daughter and son in law for over 3 months while I looked to buy a house in their area. I had to sell my house in order to buy another house in a more expensive area. This was totally my decision to move to be of assistance to them as they started their family--they had twins a couple of months ago--that was not planned! Love the twins and want to help them without getting in their way. I totally get you, Margaret!

Thank you. I’ve been following all along the way but it was still great to have this recap. It made everything very clear and logical. You do you. It’s your life. I couldn’t do those stairs more than once or twice a day. I sure couldn’t do it in the middle of the night. I would definitely consider a rv toilet. Even one of those kind of toilets they have in nursing homes that sit next to a patients bed would work. You would just have to empty and clean it daily. I guess i would have it just as an “option”. Like you get sick and need a day or two of no stairs. Anyway, it’s your life and you do what works for you and Mike and Nicki.

Even though I watch all your videos, somewhere along the way I got confused about the houses too. I thought the one you’re in was their old house and they’re now in the new house. It was totally my mess-up because that’s what my brain likes to do these days. Thank you for explaining everything so that in this moment anyway I get it. 👍Also, if you decide a downstairs potty would be nice, there are composting toilets for campers that don’t require plumbing and reminder me a bit of potty chairs for kids (except adult size) when my daughter was 2, 44 years ago.

  • @karennedrow
    @karennedrow 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I’m sure you are going to make this all work. I would ( and im your age) have a toilet and a sink. A laundry room sink and toilet could be plumed in the laundry room easily- water is there and plumbing there for water as well. Other than that I think it’s going to work out great. Especially not having that drive and them eliminating 2 mortgages definitely pluses. I’m behind your positive attitude completely. ❤️

Margaret, I want to add that creating your downstairs sanctuary is a great idea. There are multiple benefits. I’m excited to see what you do with the space! Also, a full kitchen means “work” and maintenance! I think the negative comments are from those that haven’t lived in many different homes, etc… I’ve had 3 different homes with basements. These spaces have lots of potential! I challenge you to get it pulled together and do a miracle tour video! I wish I was your neighbor, I would help you make it lovely!! - Belinda

The stairs will keep you as fit as a fiddle, the exercise is good for us, so long as we're able to do them! The loo could be a pain, but not everyone goes many times a night, a nuisance, but as you say not undoable. It's not ideal if it takes a year or so...but your choice for sure. I was saying about renting (not just for bathroom, more to have a nice place to go and chill after a busy day, a kitchen to start cooking those nice meals you're going to start having! etc) though have no clue how much rent is there, if it were cheap I'd do that, but I'm not you! Obviously! And maybe it's a lot, in which case I wouldn't go for it. Anyway, it's been fun reading all the comments and the various opinions etc! You handle them very well 🙂

When you invite people (followers) into your life, you are going to get many opinions. I personally think your basement situation will work well for you. You are a huge help to your son & daughter-in-law and you are so considerate of them. After my husband passed, my son-in-law wanted me to move in with them He wanted to have one of the teenagers take the basement and I take her bedroom. I wasn’t ready to give up my house yet & I would feel like I was displacing my granddaughter. There will come a time when I can no longer keep up my home & yard and I will need to move in with them, but I made it very clear that I would be in the basement. I would have a small bedroom, a sitting area and a kitchenette. There is a roughed in bathroom that would need to be finished. There is no ceiling & we would leave it that way. Lol. I feel very strongly that they need their family time without me in all their business. I have been a caregiver for their 4 children for 16 years and my SIL always says that I have spent more time at their house then mine so what’s the difference. It’s a tough decision. I hope your temporary situation works out & a more permanent dwelling won’t be too much longer.

I hear you, Margaret, I hear you. I would just urge that you find a way to open the window so that you know it can, in case of a fire. Perhaps a very very very remote chance, but where I live you cannot sleep in a basement if there is no egress window. I also don't think anyone should eat microwave dinners for much more than once a week because of sodium and lack of nutrition, but a bag of carrots, a bit of dinner from upstairs carried down in a tupperware dish now and then, some fruit, it will all work out. Are we certifiable or do we just care a lot about our fellow human? xo from Canada

I'm sorry that people are not paying attention to your videos and then you have to explain things. Which you should not have to explain things it's your life. I had the same life for 2 years and I loved it so very much. In fact my son and daughter-in-law forced me to join them more often. So I know where you're coming from. Yes it's taking longer than you had hoped, the time will go by quickly. We could be Spirit sisters I swear. I didn't want to be in their face 24/7 so in the evening I went to my quarters, which is what I called my room. I also ran errands, went to the YMCA for child first aid classes. Even tho I raised my 3, I was nervous as grandma.
I did shopping kept myself busy in the evening, but most of the time just relaxed knowing I had an early day being a busy woman with a baby. I'm sorry to say these years will just fly by so treasure every moment. Soon you'll be in your little house and she'll be running over to spend the night with you. Keep up the good attitude 👍❤️

Well, I thank you for explaining where you are at, for any new comers (like me) I got that you sold your old house, but then I was confused as you were cleaning out where you are now - taking care of “Swish”? On and on - trees coming down - doing power wash on another house - WOW - Now I get it and dont envy you downstairs, but understand with finances, probably easiest way - My husband passed 3 years ago, we retired South and not sure where I will come back to - my 3 children. In 3 different states - I’m from Ma and my daughter still there - sons in Ct and Ny - on and on! Ct son able to do the most - (no I wont live with him) but have no friends there (he went because of job) so, Ma best for me, I think I can afford a “she-shed” LOL

Thanks so much for doing this video, Margaret! It really helped. But is the house you are in now "new construction"? I thought you were redoing the kitchen, which looks dated. I'm so happy that you are happy.

Well, seems like you're going into this with eyes wide-open, Margaret , and after all, it's a temporary situation. So yeah - lack of the bathroom would kill me because I pee so often, but maybe you don't pee as much as me. Damned architect! But I understand wanting to start over and lose whatever progress has been made, not to mention money. How about a bedside commode? Just dump it out in the morning!

Hi, Margaret! You know, basements are great and sort of temperature-controlled. Warmer in winter and cooler in summer and just nice. Now, basements get a bad rap. There are too many scary movies, but they are just movies. Bad things do happen, like laundry. Great place to sleep. Get yourself a chamber pot, and don't post about it! Lol!
Get some good lighting and make room for the cats. It will be fun. Squish will see that you sleep well. Bugs hate mint. I use diffusers from Amazon and spearmint, wintergreen, and peppermint essential oils. You might want to call the vet and get an okay on that. Mice, snakes, and almost all bugs hate that. I even have a couple in the garage now ( since the snake incident ).
Good luck with basement-dwelling! It will be fun. 💕💕💕

Are the ppl watching you 20 or something? Margaret is an accomplished woman who can walk up the damn stairs for a pee, or purchase some form of waste management! if needed, This is someone doing something nice for her family, a standard act of good parent, hell she’s even super aware that she and her DIL need boundaries. Love u M

Yes. I think with the current plans construction in our actual living room MIGHT be okay.

Well, it really isn’t any of our business. I hope you realize we care about you and your safety and I think we just wanted to make sure you all looked at it from all angles. We aren’t all as spry and limber as you are. I need the potty 3 to 4 times a night and if I had to do stairs every time I’d probably say nuts to it and buy stock in Depends…just kidding. Really? Social media is full of unsolicited opinions, but you did ask for opinions -- "Could you make it work?" People responded. You then responded, "You're all certifiable." Maybe don't ask for opinions if you don't want opinions. You wanted validation. Ask for validation.
