    ❤ When I go to bed at night, I purposely say in my head what I'm thankful for. If a negative thought comes in, I push it out and go back to thinking back to all my blessings. I've been doing it for over a year, and now it just comes naturally for me. Good Topic Nanny. ❤

    I’m 78 yrs old. Previously when I’d wake during the night to go to the bathroom and couldn’t get back to sleep I’d also end up doing some chores. That had to stop! So I made myself go back and lie down instead, lights out, and I began to just simply say the Lord’s Prayer. Crazily enough it works for putting me back to sleep! Most of the time I know I haven’t even completed the whole prayer before I’ve “passed out” again! I say crazily because, to be honest, I don’t usually pray very much anymore otherwise. This works for me. It may take time and effort to come up with your own solution but just keep thinking at it. Don’t get frustrated and give up! Use your good mind and you’ll find your own solution.❤

    Hi Nanny! I'm 77... I saw a sleep therapist within this past year. She asked me what I say to myself when I can't get sleepy and I'm lying in bed. I told her I say "I've got to try and get some sleep". She said that was wrong and showed I had anxiety. She advised me to do just what you said...get up and go do something quiet until I get sleepy and don't get in bed until I am sleepy. It's about conditioning your body to associate sleeping with your bed, and nothing else but sleeping. She even told me not to read in bed. (I haven't given that up but I don't read on a screen...just a regular book). But TH-cam has helped me a lot and you have too...I just watch you or someone else I love on our TV... and listen until I get sleepy. You are right...no computer screens before bed, and also going to bed at the same time and getting up at the same time every day is important. I'm a night owl so I stay up till about 12 a.m. and usually sleep till 8 a.m. It's all about your own circadian rhythm. Cutting out caffeine is something I have to work on...and including exercise on a more regular basis. You talked about such an important topic for us Goldens. Thank you so much!🥰❤

    I sometimes have a cup of Sleepy Time tea. It doesn't necessarily let me sleep all night but gets me relaxed enough to get to sleep. Thank you for sharing your journey.

    Nanny I have my rosary under my pillow at hand and begin reciting it..There are times I fall off without finishing, but usually by the time I'm finished, I'm relaxed and sleeping...

    Most all of us are deficient in magnesium and it is very good for inducing sleep, specifically magnesium glycinate. A few other ladies mentioned this.

    Nanny, I'm so glad you're speaking on this. I'm lucky if I get 4 or 5 hours a night. I start my day in a brain fog and lack energy all day. Thank you for the tips. Also, I'm suffering from dry mouth, I heard it comes as we age. Dry mouth is new to me, and it's extreme. Could you do a segment on this issue, please. Thank you, Nanny. I enjoy your channel ❤

      I found out that not only does an xylitol gum help keep a healthy mouth but helps dry mouth and breath as well. I use Zellie's made in the USA and recommended by a dentist. I like the cinnamon flavor and it also comes in a mint if you don't like to chew gum.

    To get to sleep I thank God for the day, etc, then I pray the Lord's prayer. If I'm still awake I recite Psalm 23. I rarely make it to the end.

    Hi Nanny,
    I am like you with the difficulty of getting a good nights sleep! I am guilty (and a habit) of getting my iPad out and start reading a book that I have downloaded , sometimes I will read for several hours and I just can’t seem to break the habit! If I am lucky I sometimes fall asleep while reading 😂 I will try to take your advice and try not to read (although when I’ve tried not to read I end up just lying there for several hours waiting to fall asleep) I am 84 years old and in reasonable good health and so much enjoy you on my iPad . Thank you for taking the time to help make our senior years better.

      reading is good if you’re reading a paper copy by lamplight. it’s the blue light from electronic devices that disrupts our sleep ability. my primary care nurse told me to go in 20 minute cycles: if i’ve laid awake for 20 minutes, get up and read for 20 minutes before heading back to bed. if you still don’t fall asleep for 20 minutes, repeat.

    My beloved Mother used to say when I woke up “make the sign of the Cross and turn on your other side”
    It always seemed to work
    I miss her so so much and she passed away in 1999
    My husband passed away in 2007
    But I have two wonderful sons and one beautiful grandson

    Nanny, I’ve been meaning to tell you for some time now how I keep my mascara from transferring to my upper eyelid. I struggled with that as well and then I started using a blow dryer on my face as soon as I put on mascara. I just keep my eyes lowered and then wave it around my eyes and it works! It dries that mascara so it no longer transfers. Love your videos, you’re a national treasure ❤

    I enjoyed this video so very much. I am 71 yrs old & my sleep is interrupted several times during the night. I’m a side sleeper . After being on my side for so long my hands & arms go to sleep which wakes me up to turn . I turn a lot during the night which disrupts my sleep . Linda

I must confess I’ve been taking a prescription sleeping aid for years and it just works for me. I know it’s frowned upon but it’s the way it is.     Nanny, I do exactly what you are doing at night. A lot of mine is neck and hip pain. I do nap sometimes in the day for 30 minutes. But, I haven’t slept for 7 or 8 years straight for probably 40 years or more. I wish I had your energy Nanny. You do a lot. Just getting in the car and doing errands, is a lot. I’m too tired to do that half of the time. I need to get some more collagen powder and be consistent with it. Stay cool nanny ❤

    I Luv U Nanny. Even when you go into a video saying you have so many questions... I just get a wealth of information from you. I'm 70 & I hope when I get to be 86, I will still be able to research & retain information like you do. I have severe scoliosis and have debilitating back pain. Which makes sleeping almost impossible. It has gotten so much worst in the last yr and is now affecting my neck and causing severe headaches. But you are so cheerful & lately so energized that you are delightful to listen to.. no matter the subject. It is almost my bedtime & I am so much happier from watching you. I bet I'll even sleep better tonite from just watching this. You bring so much joy to so many of us. Thank you Nanny. ... gt

    Nanny, I’m 67 end of July, and my sleep patern was realy bad, but since retiyaring last July it’s getting better now no worries, clear head, the warmer weather helps with our old bones, I suffer with syatica, but prescient I’m pain free, so that helps my sleep now, as I couldn’t get comfy then, so it’s nice to know there’s other people in the same boat. I live near Scotland Gretna green, and not far from the Lakedistrict.

    My mom takes a mild sleeping tablet every night, has done for about 25 years. She sleeps really well. I'm sure some say it's not good for you, but she's 94 so I'm not sure how good or bad they are! x

    I wear a Fitbit watch that will monitor sleep cycles among other things. Any digital watch will do it if you want to use one. It’s very helpful.

      Magnesium Glycinate is very good! Helps you relax. I take one about 1/2 hour before bed!. It seems to work for me! Thank you, Nanny, for doing this video!     When I wake up at night and can't go back to sleep I will put my earbuds in and turn on an audiobook. My husband usually has old movies/TV shows on the TV through the night which usually does not bother me too much. I do exercise daily and go to bed at a regular time. We pretty much have a routine, we watch TV at night which makes me sleepy. I always count my blessings and pray in the evening as well. I usually take Melatonin before bed as well.

    Wise advice/ tips Nanny thankfully I am still blessed with the ability to go to sleep within minutes and sleep well [except for toilet breaks lol] but I can get over again quickly. Love the pig tails - stay fabulous Nanny - Love Jas xx

    Good conversation Nanny….i wake up 3x to go to the bathroom without turning on any lights, go back and usually fall back to sleep easily…occasionally I wake up around 4 and can’t go back to sleep until maybe 5/5:30. I usually go to sleep after 10 and by 11. Depends on what I’m watching on TV in bed and wake up 6:30/7. I’m 85 and wish I didn’t need so many bathroom breaks now!!
    I usually never need a nap during the day…so guess I’m getting enough sleep…thanks for all the information❤️

    Oh yes I am with you and the rest of you...haha...I am doing laundry now!!!! My whole family were nite owls. Grandmom played Bingo and I would wait till she got home with 8 kids in a small house I slept with her and she would give herself and me a shot of sweet grape Mogen David wine and we both were knocked out...haha!! She was the greatest she was my pal and I was her sidekick. I worked in her beauty shop called Nellie's and I saved my money in a cigar box and then we went to Atlantic City and played the Chance Wheels on the Steel Pier...I truly lived my life in reverse. She went on to live to 90s and still was in good health. She was my greatest gift. She enjoyed her nite owl life...and me too . Enjoy, Nanny

    I started taking magnesium ( on my nightstand) as soon as I get in bed for the past couple of months and have pretty much gotten about 5-6 hours now but with 1 or 2 bathroom calls…this is actually quite an improvement for me. I’m hoping it continues.

    Good morning Nanny! All good sleep ideas. My husband and I usually hold hands and say The Lord's prayer before bed. Very calming and relaxing. I dream every night so I think that is in Rem sleep. Unless I have something I'm excited or concerned about, I get good sleep every night. I've always been a "sleeper" tho. I do practice those things you mentioned, or most of them. Thanks for your input because sleep is such an important issue.☕✝️🥰

    Nanny- Thank you for this video! Glad to know I’m not the only one that sometimes, has trouble getting back to sleep, after a bathroom visit. I take a magnesium Glycinate. It really helps me relax and fall asleep. Magnesium is good for you. Anyway, we are having a hot spell in Oregon right now, so that sometimes, makes it hard to sleep. You are the Best!     I have struggled with fragmented sleep for years. I sometimes neglect to do many of the good things that would help my sleep. I have always been a night owl which is really difficult when your husband is an early riser 7 days a week. My husband has never slept late in his life. Fragmented sleep was a big problem for me during my working years; however since my retirement I just sleep when I can-thankfullyI don’t have a set schedule anymore. My biggest challenge is shutting my mind down to get to sleep-once I get
    to sleep, I will usually sleep from four to six hours and feel very rested when I wake up. So yes!!! I can certainly relate to your sleep issues!!!!!

    I make Californian poppy tincture and it helps me to sleep. It's none addictive and cheap to make. I find all cotton sheets are the best for sleep. TY ❤.

    Interesting topic on today's video. I'm a night owl and am always trying to get to bed before midnight. I sleep about 5-6 hours before I am up for a potty break. Then usually back to bed for another two hours. My tips for getting to sleep are taking 150-200mg of Magnesium Glycinate sometime in the evening, an hour or so before bed. Might check with your doctor as it can also lower your blood pressure. It helps with anxiety also. Another thing that works for me is deep breathing. Inhale through your nose for eight counts, hold for seven counts, exhale through your mouth for eight counts. Do this four -six times. Also can lower blood pressure and anxiety. These almost always work , but if all else fails I say my prayers. Always works. I remember my mom used to say think about how cozy you feel in your bed. You did what you could with the day. Start fresh the next day. I sometimes take an afternoon nap, and seems to help with energy level heading into the evening hours. It's nice to have a good pillow.     Nanny, I have a Kindle called the paper white. It has no blue light effect on you. It’s the only thing I allow myself to look at in the evenings and it makes a big difference. I went thru a battle with insomnia and discovered that a weighted eye mask helped me fall asleep quickly and stay asleep after bathroom trips. I also wear earplugs because hubby has a snore😂 that also kept me up. I had both knees replaced last year and am finally able to sleep without the constant pain.

    To calm down before bed is when I take my magnesium gluconate to reduce stress and relax my mind at the end of the day. It works. It's a great stress reliever ❤

    I agree, my hand is up! My sleep is terrible. I bought a grounding pad for my bed. The grounding pad seems to have relieved my pain while I’m on the bed., which allows me to sleep better. Try one out, it might work for you.

    I love using collagen also and got my husband to use it too. I think the best thing that helps me with any joint pain is "Terry Naturally Cura Med Superior Absorption Curcumin" 375mg. Taking it for years now and haven't gotten any arthritis yet in my 80's. Love all the good suggestions for sleeping, thank you Nanny.

    If you want to read on your iPad, turn it on to dark background. It solves the light issue that can keep us awake. And Just don’t read a tremendously interesting book!😊

    Good morning Nanny and Moose. I loved to listen to you about difficulties in sleep. There is a thing that I don’t have at all. I go to bed after seeing television by midnight and I sleep till 8/9 in the morning, and I am now 75 years old. My Mother and Father were the same. So, could it be genetic?     Short of taking prescription drugs for sleep, try taking regular benadryl but not the non drowsy kind. It works. For some reason, as we age, we have sleep issues. Sleep is really important to me as that's the only time that I dont feel pain. I also use 15 mg of melatonin as well.

    I generally get good enough sleep but when I get insomnia it lasts for a week or more and I’m exhausted. I have a routine: warm milk and melatonin before bed, then an audio book with the timer set to 30 minutes. I pick my books by the narrator’s soothing voice with an interesting plot but no heart thumping chases or vivid murders. Generally I’m asleep before the book turns off. Also my husband and I sleep in separate rooms because I go to bed around 10 and he around 12:30am.

    Hi Nanny! I never get long stretches of sleep . Never have. I have to have sound in the background. I listen to old episodes of Leave It To Beaver or the Golden Girls every night.😮No wonder I have trouble sleeping!! I will try the banana thing tonight… can’t hurt… right??     I missed the name of your concealer, could you please share it. It really does a good job. Love your videos. I notice if I take a couple Tylenol Arthritis before I go to bed, I rest much better.

    Love this video. I go to bed at 9 and until 10:30 on my kindle. Then I wake up from 3 am on. Regularly by 4:30. I have to nap about 1 pm each day. I’m 72 and I think stress is my main deterrent to sleep. My brother passed on July 8 after a brief illness & that has disrupted my sleep.

    I have to pee& then get up& am thirsty as well. It's your medication I have always been an early riser / that's because of my working.I don't always follow the eating rule.Living in Florida now it's 100 outside...& I have no discs.76 yrs old today.🎉😊..I woke up..& am blessed to do that.     My cat keeps me from sleeping good. Love him so much but he sleeps a lot in the day and wants me up with him at night. I drink sips of water in evening and go to bathroom 3 times in the night at least. I used to sleep so good before cats😂. When I sleep I sleep real good but being woke up by your pet isn't so good.😊
