      Both Honda & Toyota are coasting on their outdated reputations more than ever now. My 2020 TNGA Corolla SE Sedan turned out to be a disappointment compared to my 2015 Toyota Yaris SE hatch, so much so that I traded my Corolla in recently after only 2.5 years & 9000 miles just to get rid of it. Much happier now with my 2022 Mazda CX-30 AWD Carbon Edition, & Mazda has made great strides in the last 10 years or so at both catching & passing swollen-head Honda/Toyota in quality/craftsmanship for the same $.

    As a rule of thumb, you should NEVER buy a first year generation model of ANY vehicle as all the bugs have not been worked out of the systems. And 2021 IS first year of this generation of Escalade.
    As for comfort, you are 100% correct. I have severe muscle issues and I needed a new vehicle last year as my old Yukon's frame was literally rotting away and it was unsafe. I sat in the Yukon AND the Escalade, both the old 2020 leftover models AND the 2021 and I was SHOCKED. The seats felt like 2x4's with a piece of leather over them. They were shorter. I was literally pinned into the cabin between the door and console and could not move my legs, which I HAVE to do when I drive due to pain. You are also right about the pedals, which caused me hip, leg and pelvic pain when I went to brake. Having owned 11 Cadillacs in my life, I'm used to the old luxury Cadillacs and my newest is a 1994 Fleetwood Brougham.
    Not knowing what to do, one of my doctors told me to find a 2007 to 2014 Escalade or Yukon with low mileage as he had them both and said I would be fine in either one. Well, I did just that. I bought a 2014 Escalade with 16K original miles and paid WAY over book value due to the pandemic. But at least its comfy and has room!

    • @dhillaz
      @dhillaz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      On the bright side, even at pandemic prices, your 2014 model's value is going to depreciate way less than a newer one.

      @@jvs22_attrition Well, I didn't mean 100% of first year models had problems. One of my doctors bought the newly redesigned 2015 Yukon and had no issues. Its luck of the draw. I have a 1984 Cadillac Coupe DeVille with the dreaded fearful HT4100 engine and I've had NO issues with it whatever. I just maintain it properly and don't push or abuse it.

    • @jvs22_attrition
      @jvs22_attrition 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree and for the record I’m kinda exaggerating. On technical side my cts does not leave much to desire my cue system is bugged out can Barely use the screen and my dashboard talks to me in Spanish lol and the light on my brake pedal that comes on at night no longer works. But on the mechanical side it’s amazing American engineering at its best. And I always shared that sentiment that it’s not just about the car it’s your drive style that also plays a roll in how shitty or great your exp is with a car. You treat your good with respect and consistent matinence should always translate to a positive exp most of the time

    • @retroguy9494
      @retroguy9494 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dhillaz Yes, that's very true. But unless they go back to more comfortable seats and roomier cabins I plan to keep this Escalade at least 10 years so I'm not all too worried about the value.
      I bought my '05 Yukon new and now with 214,000 miles and the frame more or less rotted out due to the salt and brine, its not worth anything at all really. My mechanic said he'd give me $500 because he wants the engine and some of the newer parts he put in last year. At least I got $11,500 off the sticker back before GM went bankrupt and they used to offer those awesome rebates at year end!

    Incidentally, the backup camera is a safety system required by federal law. The reason the dealer took the car back so readily is that you were likely covered by the California lemon law. In California when a lemon is returned you get back all of your lease payments, taxes, down payment, registrations etc. less an offset that depends on the mileage used.

    I work at a Cadillac dealership and have found that a lot of the years or even cars within the same years are hit or miss. Most likely due to quality control but one car might be perfectly fine and another might be in the shop for weeks. We had a new XT6 in with a transmission failure at less than 10k miles. I drive a 2007 sts with only 60k miles on it and it drives fantastic with no unreasonable problems but another sts I've driven drove like a dog. So unfortunately it's luck of the draw, but that's what warranties exist for I guess... How many Escalades do you seen on the road vs. the GL/GLS? Most of the GLs are mechanically totalled and not worth it to fix whereas the Escalade you can keep running by throwing a little money at it from time to time.
    The new GLS is nice but has nowhere near the presence the Escalade has. I’ll take the GLS63 over the regular Escalade only. The 450 does nothing for me. Dare I say, it’s a bit bland.

    I took delivery of a 2021 Escalade ESV in November of 2020 . It is BY far the best Escalade that I have ever had , and I've been driving them since 2002 . My truck was the 1st one on the city , and I didn't even see another 2021 for at least 10 mos due to the pandemic . My local dealer Germain Cadillac , is terrific . Other than scheduled maintenance and oil changes , its been rock solid . I got rid of my Cadillac last March, and I couldn't be happier or more relieved....MAJOR mechanical and suspension issues, just a complete piece of shit! I'd take it back, they'd tell me it was fixed a day or so later, I'd drive it for another month, and then WHAM! Something else would come apart or fall off, and I'd start all over again with it. The heated seats and steering wheel kept failing as well, the power steering pump and high pressure line blew out as well. Also, I was never very fond of the ride quality; it felt more like a pickup truck, despite the sales person telling me that I didn't "really want that in a car"; um, YES I DO, I have serious hip and back issues, and when you're used to the sheer, opulent comfort of the older Cadillacs, well....Detroit decided FOR us that we didn't really want soft riding cars and comfortable seats and suspension, no....what they said we REALLY wanted were "luxury" cars that compared to the hard, rough-riding imports, like BMW, Mercedes, etc., and trucks....the very cars I never liked, nor was impressed by! They never bothered to talk to guys like me, I know that. Hell, even the Buicks, Mercuries, Chryslers, and Chevy Impalas once had that incredibly luxurious ride quality and comfortable seating, but apparently that's a thing of the past and it's no longer important....just like quality and reliability appear to have also been left behind. Never again, Cadillac!

You just had a lemon, I have not heard many people complaining about these trucks and the Tahoe's. They all value well and you can see that by how much the used ones cost. Mercedes can be considered junk too, just ask the mechanics. American cars are no less than foreign. Hell I went foreign with Infinity and the car been in the shop many times. We consumers have the upper hand in challenging these manufactures to make safer and reliable quality vehicles, complaining all day does not solve anything. Our dollars count stop purchasing and see what happens, I hear complaints all the time in these videos and no one stands up to these manufactures, therefore they will continue to charge more and make more cheap cars. Augmented reality, cameras, lane keep and adaptive cruise is just fine. Nothing has ever been warranted just two trips to the dealer for some recalls but that's with anything. I guess you just got a pos. Heck even my engine is perfect. Zero oil consumption or fuel dilution. My neighbor has had his 2015 escalade and they put almost 110k on it and the most expensive repair was one little module which was under 700.
    Also why didnt you just get the new Lexus or top trim Toyota SUVs.
    If you badly want reliability Cadillac isn't the way to go but neither is mercedes either. You either get lucky or you dont. With a toyota product you have to be lucky to get unlucky. Great quality control and issues are fixed pretty fast.

      Nah I worked at a used car dealer and we had all GM cars trucks and SUV’s there. Cadillacs we’re the worst. The screens in the overwhelming majority of our Cadillacs always get stuck requiring a restart of the car. A lot of electronic systems went offline. Air suspension systems, AC stopped working, Camera’s don’t work, etc… GM’s electronic systems are nightmares. They are no better than a Dodge. Even Ford has better reliability. Explorers almost never gave us problems.

      @@N4CR it’s true. We have always had awesome experiences with Mercedes’. I do all the service as a former mechanic. Drove a 2003 E500 from 12k to 180k and it even got rear ended bad at about 110k. Only replacement things were brake pads, 2 sets of batteries(there a Tiny motorcycle type battery for the brakes) 4 serp belts, 1 tensioner and 2 idlers. 1 radiator from a puncture, upper rad hose, drive by wire accelerator pedal, trans fluid services, led 3rd brake light replacement, replaced 1 rear taillight board, replaced the oil breather as the only oil leak it ever had. No problems with the airmatic, original CV joints, alternator, water pump, wheel bearings, drive shaft, etc. only thing that never worked was the in dash Cd changer. Sold it to a friend for his mom to drive around town without a single warning light and every accessory working she got hit at a light and it got totaled about a year after he bought it for her. It was on par with any a Toyota I have ever had. Call the Mercedes’ dealer and ask about a battery for a E Class for example. Bought a replacement battery about 2 years ago for our newer E Class the dealer was cheaper @ 139.00 than AutoZone or Advanced or ORiley. Serpentine belts & brake pads are the same situation. We have had similar experience with our newer E Class and a SLK. I truly wish they brung over the small Mercedes pick up truck to the states.

    I’m on my 2nd new model Escalade, I’ve owned my 21 Escalade sport for a little over a year and last night (for the 3rd time) it has left me stranded on the side of the road. I was at a stop light on a busy intersection and the engine just shut off. And would not start back up. This happened in a dangerous area with my wife and two young boys.
    I’m in the same position as you. I have to get rid of it as I’ve lost trust in the reliability of the vehicle. I spent over 100k to keep my family safe and comfortable, and it’s let me down more then once. Done with GM unfortunately… they look amazing, and function amazing when they are operative. But when they shut off without warning, that’s when it becomes a big problem.

    My own experience indicates GM quality control issues. 1st trip to the dealer was for a "drumming" sound that turns out is affecting a lot of the GMT K2XL platform vehicles. 2nd trip to the dealer for a top antenna circuit board due to the base gasket not sealing water out of the unit. 3rd trip to the dealer due to a loud click noise every time the steering wheel passed center. Try keeping your sanity driving I75 when all those micro movements to keep your car in the center of the lane generates a click noise. 4th trip to the dealer for the CUE screen burning out. 5th trip to the dealer for four different identified rattles. The rattles involved the torque converter/transmission where the fix was to put in an alternate transmission fluid. Then there were exhaust hangers going bad with less than 25k miles. The headliner had retaining clips going soft. And the last rattle came from a wire bundle inside the passenger side front door panel. 6th trip was combined with a regular service interval but included a replacement of the portion of the center console that had the cup holder damped covers. The internal gears for the damping mechanism fell apart.

      @@blackice7408 With the Lexus, you will get among the best automotive quality control on the planet. Lexus being the luxury arm of Toyota has a big claim to fame on this. Beyond quality control you also get durability which is a huge issue with other foreign luxury SUV makes.
      I get the feeling the author of this thread doesn't keep his cars much beyond the warrantee period, so this doesn't really affect him but try selling that Mercedes after the warrantee expires. Mercedes is known for being a computer-controlled vehicle. Problem is that it isn't just one computer. It's dozens which can and eventually do fail. The market realizes this which is why the resell price is severely depressed for Mercedes vehicles across the board.
      Older Mercedes vehicles are a maintenance nightmare. Since I tend to keep my vehicles, that issue is a deal breaker for me. At least for my Escalade, the issues that were going to happen seem to have run their course. Still...I wouldn't recommend them to a perspective buyer.

    A friend of mine had a 2016 Escalade. After 3 years they bought a Ford Explorer since 2 kids got their own cars. The Ford Dealer took the Escalade to lower the down payment and after the deal was signed, their technician looked at the Escalade and it had so many mechanical issues that they were not able to sell that car to anybody but in parts.
