    Idea: you should add another stat to the dougscore - dougs per dollar (overall dougscore divided by price). That would be a great metric for putting the cars in context. The Lincoln isn't going to get the same score as a Rolls, but probably beats it on a per dollar standpoint. It would be interesting to see what would be at the top and bottom of such a list.

      Luxury minivans are even cooler. You can say whatever about minivans, but there's a reason Asian yuppies rarely use luxury sedans and don't use luxury SUV at all for travels - a luxury minivan simply did it better for their tastes, which is big interior space enough to fit what's essentially two thrones that a SUV could only wish to have.

    You forgot to mention that with the Black Label, you get their complimentary care service for 4 years. Basically, whereas every other car you have to bring the car into the dealership for service, Lincoln Black Label service will get staff to pick up your car from your home, and drop off a loaner car. They'll take your car to the dealer in for service and detail/car wash the vehicle before bringing it back in.

    • @johnhancock6114
      @johnhancock6114 5 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      I agree. In the early days the Lincoln was a high-end luxury automobile but by the 1980's this changed drastically when American cars were shrunk down to nothing with embarrassingly small motors. The Thunderbird was yet another prime example of this. In the early 70's my family had a 68 T-bird and they were very large, very heavy luxury cars with a 429 ci V8. In the 80's the T-bird was reduced to a boxy 4 cylinder POS and 14" wheels with only four lugs, which were typically only used in compact car designs.

In the Fifties luxury cars were as follows, Episcopalians drove Packards, Presbyterians Drove Imperials, Catholics drove Lincolns and we had several, and everybody else drove Cadillacs. I worked for a Lincoln Mercury Dealership and certain cars sold to certain people. The Mustang sold to men, the Cougar to women.

      I agree. If memory serves in 2017 2.1 million sedans were sold in the US. Why Ford would be so stupid as to completely walk away from a segment that still has millions upon millions of sales for the taking is beyond me. Especially when they have always been a solid contender. My 07 Focus went 10 yrs and 231k miles with no major issues and was still running great when I sold it. Now Ford is forcing me to change companies the next time I buy a car even though I wanted to be loyal to them. I've even seen Ford employees saying they will have to buy from other companies now that Ford has given up on sedans. An absolute shame.

    As someone who drove one of these every day for 8-12 hours (as opposed to out and back on the dealer's driveway...), here's an addendum to what Doug said. Under all the fancy stuff, it's a Ford Fusion. The good: The AWD system is excellent and with the standard tires the car is well planted in bad weather, and has a surprising amount of grip in the dry, too. The base V6 should be plenty for almost everyone, and the brakes are face-pulling strong. The button shifter looks cool, but more importantly, it's fast and easy to use, which is great for when you're a working driver. Everyone loves the comfort of the rear seats. The standard audio system sounds nice and Sync for the most part works flawlessly. The driver's seat is very comfortable. Doug mocks the drive select system, but it's actually nice, because you can set "D" to have eco throttle response and soft suspension for customer comfort, but sport (firmer) steering. The rear running light bar looks like absolute sex, the unlock/lock effect on the running lights is really slickly done, and I think in general it's easily the most attractive car Ford has made in close to four decades; it lacks the...awkwardness...that so many Ford cars have, and I think in 10 years this car will probably still look good, whereas most ten year old fords are extremely dated.
    The bad: the driver's area is...cramped, and I'm a pretty small person. The wood is overly glossy and the glossy clearcoat looks cheap as it wears a bit, and doug is right - they get really, really close to getting this all right, but the back panel controls in particular don't age well. The trunk isn't big; it's small compared to the 7-series, though not as small as the S90 (these are the three popular cars for fleet limos in our area.) The fancy door handles break in livery service, as does the trunk closing mechanism. Nobody knows how to get out of the cars (which is a plus in our circles, as it stops clients from opening their doors into traffic and such.) The base V6 drinks gas like crazy compared to much more fuel-efficient cars like the S90 (a car that makes the interior of the Continental look like a joke.)
    There are, however, two big flaws: one is professional driver safety. Any time the doors are unlocked, even if someone is inside, the door buttons light up red. If anyone wants to rob you - limo drivers often do have a fair bit of cash on them - they have a nice handy indicator as to whether they doors are unlocked or not. The second biggest flaw is that the transmission in this car is HORRID. Customers like a smooth ride, right? Well, many times you'll be crawling in traffic on the highway and the transmission slam-shifts from 1st to 2nd with a big, violent lurch. Every single car I drove in the fleet did it.

    As a sound technician, I can see that that "demo" is actually a way for the system to recalibrate itself by "listening" to vibrations in the speakers, it recieves those different feed back vibrations that "bounce back"due to adjusted seats or different people in the car to know how to distribute sound, it'll move and adjust its frequencies and tones make the best quality music, that's actually an impressive feature to have.

Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with a rudimentary A-B mobile, but it's 2019, times change, do you honestly think that people don't know how to fix up vehicles like this at all? Hell, some autoshops even have the option of repairing broken sensors, wire connections, and replacements. With the growth and overabundance of technology, also comes people who know what it is, how to use it, and most importantly, how to repair it.

      Top Line Usually when it’s bright outside you want the interior display/gauge lights at maximum brightness. It’s when it’s dark outside that you typically want to adjust the interior lighting to make it comfortable for your eyes in the dark.

    • @SoldererOfFortune
      @SoldererOfFortune 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah. Your phone brightness setting stays at your choice in dim environments. When you go outside, the brightness goes to max, so you can see it better, then back down once you go inside. What they should do is add an ambient light sensor ($2 electronic part, less in quantity) and do it automatically like phones do.

The looks eventually grew on me. Compared to the Explorer Sport with the same engine, it's faster maybe because of aerodynamics(?), it is bigger inside, and rear legroom is limousine like even with the third row. Features galore with power flip folding seat, power folding rear seat, panoramic sunroof, 20" polished aluminum wheels, AWD, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel and it can park itself. I am 37 years old and love my Continental. I have the 3.0 turbo with every option. It’s comfortable and fast and really not too bad on gas. This Doug score is BS. Try one and you’ll love it.

      Find a 2000 XJ8 Jaguar in Titanium with black leather interior. Probably less than nine grand. Trust me, you'll sit in it and never look back,

      Keye T town car was also rwd and built like a tank but their main duties ended up being relegated to New York City taxi cabs (which minus fuel economy it did this well) just like its panther platform cousin the crown Victoria and the lesser used gran marquis. If you’ve ridden in a nyc taxi cab in the late 90’s or 2000-2012 it was likely one of these 3.

    The big downside of Lincoln is depreciation. I just saw a certified used 2018 Continental (lesser model than Black Label) with 27K miles on it for $31K. My mother had a 1995 Town Car that she bought certified used in 1997 for half the original sticker price. Were I to buy a Continental, I would go certified used. Big Lincoln sedans are great - like living rooms on wheels.

      Better check how many European luxury cars loose their value as well. I am told that because European become money pits as they age, people are afraid to purchase one for fear of large repair bills due to the cost of replacement parts and hourly service fees.

      If I had to guess: It is probably because OLD people usually buy luxury cars, and OLD people tend to KEEP their cars for 2+ decades, not sell them off in a few years, which means there's not much competition on the resale market?
