Thank you so much for that first stretch! I always tell them it's the front of my neck that hurts and feels tight like it's pulling my jaw muscles and yet they always "treat" the back of the neck.... (I'm in round two of physical therapy for my neck)
Yes, I do. But I also have a leftward compressed nerve from stenosis at C4/C5, so it makes part of this hard to do (the first stretch, to the right side). To top it all off I have a torn labrum & biceps tendenitis in my right shoulder, so some of my PT exercises for my stenosis agitate that and vice versa... I have also had a TLIF (L5/S1) - but this, while painful, is no longer consequential. I've applied for an entirely new musculoskeletal system; interestingly, insurance has not agreed to this! :-D Are you in Austin? I graduated from college there yeeeears ago, when it was much smaller and less California-fied (coincidentally where I live now). If you have other exercises for suggestion, I'm all eyes.
Wow! I went to the chiropractor 2 days in a row and was still experiencing excruciating pain. My daughter sent me this video and I felt relief instantly. Thank you!
@Gretchen Harbourt I get this a few times a year too, waking up with this pain. I had it last night from about 10:30pm until around 1am. And then it came back the next day, I know its from posture and truly from furniture that doesn’t support my back in sitting up straighter (old arm chair and sofa that isn’t firm, and looking at iPad🙃😕. And in past was from bad pillows, ugh.
I’ve had Occipital Neuralgia for five years now on the right side of head going down behind my right ear this pain is fail and so bad along with this pain I also have Migraines with aura and right sided weakens I’ve dealt with these terrible painful every morning upon awakening the pain the bad migraines started at at 17 , I’m 65 years old now still have these terrible migraines on the right side of my head over my right eye and beside my right eye . I’m now on a preventative injection called Aimovig 70 mg every 28 day’s injection into my thigh I’ll be so thankful when my body takes to the meds in this injection . These pains are unbearable , watching your video . Thankyou for sharing it . I pray it helps me ♥️.My eye doctor mentioned at my last visit , stated that he had asked me if I had chicken pox as a child and he said that is why I have these painful conditions ❤️Praying for everyone with pain 🙏♥️
17 years of Occipital neuralgia caused by a stroke. Daily constant pain. Rehab doctors, physical therapists, pain doctors, nerve blocks. nothing. Doing your stretches 3 times daily and I have slept through the night pain free 9 of 10 days so far and i go hours without even thinking abut my pain. Thank you. I have other stretches I do, but the first stretch in this video is magic
I’ve had occipital pain for quite a few years. Was eating dinner with a headache and then decided to TH-cam tension headaches and pain relief. Your video came up and I did your 2 stretches. Instant relief, especially with the collar bone strength. Thank you so very much!
THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME..."DRAMATICALLY!" I've gone to a neurosurgeon, had Xray, MRI, CAR scan, and let's not forget injection! The ONLY relief was from "HEAT," stretching the front muscles, and most of all...trying (very hard) to stretch the top of my head to the ceiling! You MUST FULLY EXTEND UPWARDS. I've tried EVERY and ALL other stretches... These are the ONLY ONES THAT WORKED! THANK YOU, THANK YOU AND THANK YOU AGAIN! Edward
It’s 1am and as I sit in tears because of this pain, it instantly became less painful by doing these exercises. Thank you so much. I’m going to do these every few hours now💯
I’ve experienced occipital nerve pain on the left side for years often on. And it usually lasts for about three or four days. I felt relief the first time I did these exercises. Thank you so much!
5 days of nonstop headache and pain. Heating pad, Aleve and massage and it just persisted. Instant relief after doing these exercises. 🙏🏼❤️ Thank you!!!
My neuralgia pains happen behind my ears most times, usually the left. The neuro called it occipital. After battling neuralgia pain most of the weekend, the first stretch feels more helpful for me so far.
I used to have this issue occasionally when I was a kid. I'm glad to hear it actually has a name. It only lasted about two seconds but it felt like a ring of electricity travelling up from the based of the head to the top of the scalp where the ring would come together and zap the top of the head leaving a slightly painful burning sensation. It hasn't happened in years and it was a very uncommon thing, probably happened three or four times during my childhood.
1:40 he is so right. I drive a truck for work and had been leaning my head forward all day for several weeks until I began having these nasty headaches from the occipital area all the way to like my eye sockets. Was super tender along the back of my head just above my neck and right behind my ears. Then I just started to keep my chin up higher tilting my head back and then the pain began to lessen more and more, thankfully the pain is gone.
I think it worked with the first stretch 🙏🏻🙏🏻iv been suffering for 12 months thank you I’m in uk 🇬🇧 other wise I would calling you right now, seeing GP for first time about this pain tomorrow I’ll tell him/ her about this stretch 🙏🏻 thank you
I found your video after a week of neck and head pain. I had already been trying all the possible neck stretches, with very little to no results. Your video was the first and only one that showed the stretch at the front of the neck. I got a substantial decrease in the level of pain, both at the neck and head - and also at the TMJ level. Thank you so much!
Great stretch - immediately relieved the tingling sensation I've had along the left side of my head into my ear, over the head, and behind the eye. Thanks CORE.
I didn't knew what was causing this pain to me on my head. Just searched for the type of head pain on Google found this relief excercise video and I'm bit relieved now. Thanks!
I have been to so many Doctors, painful RFA treatments and little relief. These exercises really work! First day in a year with no neck pain. AMAZING! I am so happy I found your site. Thank you so much!
Pencil ✏️ trick works well with my occipital neuralgia. Tapping with the eraser end of it stimulates the nerves on the back of the head. It helped me relief the week long pain, I was in so much pain..
NO WORDS CAN DESCRIBE MY APPRECIATION TO YOU. Been having this pain for years and had no idea what to do. I did stretches, Tylenol and all kinds of things. Found this video and tried the stretches and right away felt better. My pains severe so I’m going to continue doing these stretches everyday. Thank you again!
The side stretch was really good. I am in the middle of a hideous few days with this condition and I am going to keep doing this until its gone thank you
I've been suffering for a couple months now..I don't do doctors so I figured it would heal ..I would feel better but then I cough like today and it felt like my head was tearing my fingers feel like rubber bands are on them I couldn't turn my neck to the right ..I did the exercises from 2 of your videos and almost fell asleep where I was because my body slowly started to feel relief..I have been suffering for so long today I was going to the E.R but I found your videos 1st . Thank you so much for sharing because you really have helped me. God Bless you
Great stretches. The first stretch decreased the lesser occipital nerve symptoms. Plugged ears, pressure behind ears. The second got the greater occipital nerves 👍
Perfect exercise......I got immediate relief at 7:00 AM in the morning.....Over six months long pain relief 60% .....in few minutes....Next few days....It's gone........Be blessed....
I've had this problem since 1994. No one knew what it was. Had MRI's, scans, x rays, what have you. For me, I can't say its causing PAIN, but the electric sensation is so complete and overwhelming that it made me cry. I was told I was imagining it and that it was anxiety. Finally told my chiropractor about the symptom and he said, "Oh, I can fix that." He did a few adjustments and I was fine. I only have it occasionally now, and I do the stretches. I hope you feel better!
Exactly what you do in hatha yoga classes! Its called the Jalhandara Bandha and it keeps the next safe (all the diluted yoga has folks bending their neck all over the place), In traditional practices the chin stays over the heart and do just what you are donig
I cannot thank you enough for this video! I'd been miserable for 5 days with pain. Instant relief came from doing these stretches. I'm going to include these stretches daily. Thank you!!
Wow! This explanation about the connection to neck and areas below -- especially to the front of the body-- really xeroed in on my particular areas of pain. No one else has suggested those stretches. Bingo! And one enormous thank you ! I've been at this for 2 years -- 7 docs and 3 phys therapists. All just brushed me off, didn't take me seriously. Thank you beyond words!
FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU VERY MUCH.. Secondly my story.. This pain was one and off for almost a month now, sometimes as soon as i wake up in the morning, within 1 mintute this pain starts...sometimes even unable to sleep, i thought iw was due to my long hour studies.... but now i know its because during those long hours i had hunched back and wiered neck placement.. changed now...and 30-40% instant relief after these two exercises.... i will update this after few days..again thanks..i didnt knew how important posture was, now i DO.... :) And lastly i dont understand why those 5 persons gave dislike, wiered persons.Good luck to you.
my struggle is every neck stretch I have done so far causes me nausea. I will try these. God has blessed me with great compassionate doctors and physical therapists. Honestly I would rather have surgery than more steroid shots in my neck. I have had two shots in the facets of my spine(first helped but second didn't seem to) and two epidural shots in lower spine and they made a huge difference. Now my neck is having issues. SO hopefully the MRI will show what ever is going on. I know surgery would be much harder to recover from. Praying God will take control, as He always is in control, and will show the doctors exactly what is going on and what the best procedure is to do.
i was watching this video in the same position as the girl in 1:30 thank you for helping me relieve my sharp sudden headaches, i always thought it was a sudden migraine

Do you have neck pain and headaches due to Occipital Neuralgia? Try these occipital neuralgia exercises and stretches
