I was 6 years old when we picked this game up from funcoland. I just remember staring at the box art with my brother (11) the entire way home. Then the music really caught my attention when we threw it in. We had also played X and X2 as well before this.

Gravity beetles theme and stage will always be a wonderful memory in my childhood. When you reach the part of his stage where you see the sunset in the background just…I don’t know. Reminds me of great childhood memories watching my brother play the game and just being free. I miss that innocence.
Nobody has mentioned it but for me Megaman X3's Cast Roll is probably one of my favorite alongside the one from X5. I.D.E.A from Megaman X6 is still my absolute favorite, i don't think anything else will top it.

Honestly its like what you said, X3 has the most number of "weak" songs out of the first 3 X games, so thats what kind of stands out. This ost is not bad by any means, and it is as you said, the good songs are friggin epic, but yeah its just a case of tough competition, X1 entire ost is godlike for example. Between X2 and X3 i think x2 has the better overall ost but x3 best songs are better than X2 best.

Megaman X and X3 reign over the OST of all megaman X franchise. Outstanding piece by piece. Both Zero theme's are epic. Both intro stages are outstanding. And while most of the Maverick theme's are outrageous. In X we have Spark mandrill and Storm Eagle shining above the rest, while in X3 we have Gravity Beetle and Neon Tiger (this last one probably because of Guns N Roses) shining above the rest.
The only thing shiny about the MMX3 soundtrack is the shit stain that it left on the series (aside from a few good songs). Neon Tiger was probably the worst theme in the series up to that point, at least to me. It just sounds braindead.

Some of these songs, like Zero's and Vile's themes, are among the better music tracks in all of Mega Man. Then some of these are an attack on your ear drums.
It's made for SNES. There are over 9,000 remixes and remuxes of these songs that have more instruments. MMX games have a pretty much stellar musical track record across the board.
This definitely sounds better than the PSX1 OST version of these songs. That version isn't a BAD version, it just doesn't have the grit that the SNES tracks have. It's too shiny and polished sounding for a game like this. In addition to that, it just sounds like there's just too much going on in some of the tracks. You couldn't tell the difference between the background harmonies and the melodies. I also like how I can actually hear the melodies in the SNES version and the songs background doesn't get too much in the way.
This is a very hit-and-miss soundtrack but conveniently, the best three maverick stage tracks (Gravity Beetle, Toxic Seahorse, Volt Catfish) are in a nice line at 8:37 :) e: you know what, I know it's been a year but I want to back those thoughts up a little bit. See, I know everyone complains about the overuse of that one overdriven guitar... but when it works, it *works*. And ultimately, what makes or breaks a Mega Man song is how energetic it feels and how interesting the melody line is. And those three tracks I mentioned above have both of those qualities in spades. Meanwhile at the other end of the scale, Neon Tiger and Tunnel Rhino are simultaneously making me fall asleep and making me wonder if the composer ran out of time to write melodies for them. I just ultimately feel like it's not the guitar, it's how you use it.
Overall, I consider X2 to be the best of the original three games. X1 and X2 are practically tied in every department, with X1 having the slightly better music (its a *bit* more classic and varied sounding), and X2 having a slight edge in gameplay. I have to confess to being a little underwhelmed by X3 in both departments, but I will give it this - the two tracks "Opening Stage" (1:58) and "Zero" (3:36) blow all the tracks from any of the games before or since out of the water. Its like those two tracks alone sucked up all the quality uniformly from the others in the game, resulting in two crazy amazing tracks, a couple above average but imperfect ones like Gravity Beetle's, and the rest "just decent". Just one guy's opinion.

The opening stage theme was so awesome in the original SNES version, when X and Zero take out that Bee thing. When I finally came to own X3, it was on the X Collection - using the "remastered" version of the song from the PS1 version ruined it, I think.

Megaman X3 ended the trilogy on the SNES with a bang. And what a head-banging OST this is even now.
My only means of playing this was through the mmx collection. Unfortunately it has the psx version :(

my only means of playing any retro games is with an emulator, but I wanna get myself a physical NES soon (a SNES is waay to expensive, half the price of a fucking PS4).

The opening stage theme was so awesome in the original SNES version, when X and Zero take out that Bee thing. When I finally came to own X3, it was on the X Collection - using the "remastered" version of the song from the PS1 version ruined it, I think.

@@pipopoke I don't agree, I feel that both version have pretty good stuff in each part, as someone that grew up playing the Snes version as a child, I totally loved X3 PSX/PC OST since it made me think of x4 ost style and felt like a new take of the original ost.

+Uborpriest It's their opinions. For instance, here's my opinion. X1 and X3 for me are tied, but either way X2 beats both of them in terms of both games and soundtrack. X1 and X3 are still pretty good though.
