Me hearing j complain about the story in sly 4: fair enough but didn't you buy the game primarily for the gameplay? You know the most important part if gameplay is good I don't about the story no matter how garbage it is.
@@doomwhatever6523 but all parts of a game are still important. I do agree gameplay is the most important part of a game, but depending on the game, story could be just as important.
um... I'm pretty sure I sent a patreon yesterday but there is no name of mine. weird. also I know this sound cheap but, for the sake of fans, do you mind if you could reduce the Goal money from 400 to 300? it's almost 260 now, but by the time you are done with X4 review, it will be impossible to reach 400$ that fast. :"( since it's been almost 5 years, It would be so great if you only add X5 and X6 into the list!
Sure, all the long explosion sequences are annoying, but it's still impressive they managed to get a pirated copy of all of michael bay's movies crammed into one Snes game.
Mega Man X1 - X8 >>>>>>>>>> Mega Man X6-X7 and the Michael Bay remakes of Transformers (except for Age of Extinction, Bumblebee and hopefully Rise of the Beasts this upcoming year a whole tenth-year later) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Storywise, needing the chimera armor first makes sense since it's probably the only "real" armor, and the other ones are just add-ons, as in a being that fuses animal characteristics into itself, thus a Chimera, plus that's why is the only one you actually get as a physical armor, not as a collectible Gameplaywise, they could've improved it by making it unmissable like the boots in X1, since it IS easy to skip
So THAT's why it's called the Chimera! But it literally becomes useless as a standalone once you get the Kangaroo, but even that is just the Rabbit (X2's Ride Armor) without the enhanced dash charge punch and hovering. *d'oh*
@@brunolinares604 I think the lore is that he is technically a good guy, not fully in control of himself during the boss fight... but that may just be manga stuff, and the lore is different between the official manga and the design stuff.
I can't stress enough how the Zero Project spoiled me. I can no longer play the original ver. anymore since the Zero Project is the definitive ver. of Megaman X3.
@@stripedrajang3571 Tons. Zero is fully playable and decently balanced, with more health than X, an air dash and double jump (I think) but half the weapon energy and no armor or chips. You can get all of the enhancement chips for the armor, though only one is useable at a time. Getting all chips is a new method to get the gold armor. Gold armor also gives Zero his black armor A lot of bugs have generally been fixed A save system instead of passwords New game plus has been added A lot of items have been made easier to get, like removing the charged gravity well platform for the body parts and replacing them with a tricky wall jump you need Zero's double jump or X's up dash to get past and making the boulders in tunnel rhino's stage be able to be knocked down by the Z-Saber, tornado horn, and spinning blade And more stuff like that. It's one of my favorite MMX experiences ever.
@@mengo329, my bad. I worded it wrong. What I meant to say was, that all these modifications were done to Capcom's game, from the fanbase, yet, Capcom never said anything to the fanbase, and allowed it? It just surprises me, because if the same thing was to be done to a Nintendo game, Nintendo would immediately shut it down, even if the fanbase gave modifications away for free.
Really? I thought this series taught us about the different mega man X games and critiquing them while also being quite informative And giving a mostly unbiased opinion and perspective on games we would likely never play
That last segment speaks to me quite a bit considering the amount of times I've ended up having drastically different opinions from the various content creators I watch, you included, because Secret Rings is actually a good game and you're wrong for saying otherwise except for the part where you're not wrong as it does have plenty of flaws that can easily turn off many fans of the series. So maybe one day I should just get a capture card so I can make a video on it explaining why I love it to the best of my ability. Same goes for stuff like X6, Dream Drop Distance, Tag Team Racing etc. Also X3's SNES OST is fire, especially for Gravity Beetle and the credits, and I won't be hearing otherwise.
Mega Man X3 is a very rewarding game. It's probably the hardest game in the series when using just the X-buster (probably even more so than X6), but once you get all the power-ups, including Zero's saber, it feels so good.
The helmet map was strangely more useful in the prototype. In addition to mapping out powerups, it also marks boss rooms, Bit/Byte rooms, miniboss rooms, and Ride Armor platforms.
As a kid in who played X1 - X3 on the SNES, I played X3 religiously after elementary school. X3 is just my favorite out of the series despite the flaws
Inversely my friend did that during highschool every morning because of how early he got up for the bus. He had enough time to down about 3-5 mavericks before the bus got there. It really depended on which game he played.
Funny you should mention that. I was playing x3 in elementary and we put on this little production of a bunch of songs, one of which was called "danger, caution, warning" which was about taking heed of signs and markings warning of potential hazards. To this day, I swear the music for that song was remarkably similar to Toxic Seahorse's theme. Even back then I could appreciate the irony.
The "dash lemons" as the speedrunning community calls them, were not explicitly fixed on bosses in X3, it's just that all of the bosses in X3 have what's called "armor," which reduces damage; shots that deal 3 damage (level 3 shots) now only deal 2, and shots that deal 2 damage (dash lemons and level 2 shots/limes) now only deal 1.
I'll chime in here and say that all bosses and enemies have damage tables, although some share the same ones. Interestingly enough, the "dash lemons" do have an ENTIRELY separate damage value but they definitely did reduce it to 1. It's odd in general that this was even in the first couple games to be honest but it does make me laugh that the value still exists in X3, just reduced to lower damage.
X3 always held a special place in my heart. As a kid I considered it my favorite Mega Man X game, and I think the reason is that I hadn't gotten a PS1 yet and the only Mega Man game I owned at the time was Mega Man X. I rented and played X2 from time to time and loved it, but X3 was something special because every time I went to the local blockbuster, it was always the first thing I looked for and it was almost always completely rented out. That continued to the point where it was the game I went in to try to rent when I learned they had phased out SNES games. Despite the fact that I now own it on PS2, 3DS, Wii U, and Switch X3 has been immortalized as that special unobtainable Mega Man X game that I fell in love with simply due to the fact that it was rarely in stock at the local blockbuster and those times that it WAS in stock, made the game feel that much more special to me.
The biggest thing i didn't like about the PSX version was the charging sound effect. It was already obnoxious in 1 and 2, and this one just made my ears bleed.
X3 is my absolute favorite of the SNES games, but that is also because many of the issues reviewers have of the game are there because of the context of X1 and 2, and 4 after it. When you play those three games, then X4 immediately before or after, some of the design quirks become eminently noticeable. The Zero issue, the collectathons, the lack of communication regarding some of its secrets...they all seem woefully deficient. But for anyone who was hooked on Mega Man back in 1995, X3 was the definitive *90s* X game. It was X....*TAKEN TO THE EXTREME*. You like those items? HAVE 10 MORE! You like that Zero that was *TOTALLY RAD* in X1 and X2? YOU CAN FUCKING PLAY AS HIM! (with heavy restrictions, because this is a Mega Man game, not a Zero game.) You want BIG GAME BREAKING SECRETS?! We JUST DOUBLED IT! Honestly, it was entirely normal at the time of release. Don't like what they did with Zero? Do you not remember that Zero was supposed to be the original main character, and Capcom nixed it because he didnt look enough like Mega Man? You think they were just going to go head first, full on deep end when they made him finally playable? No way. You didn't like the collectathons? Well then, you don't like 90s games and advertisements. Baffled by the secrets, and angry that they werent conveyed at all? Were you even alive in 1993 when you learned about the Hadouken? In 94 with the Shoryuken? NOBODY KNEW THAT FUCKING SHIT WITHOUT A GUIDE. The complaints for X3 nowadays make it seem like it was a total train wreck at the time of release. A cacophony of bad game design that hinders an altogether great series. But for those that played it when it came out, it was exactly what it should have been. More X - a lot more. While being totally fun to play, and having lots of options that the other two games simply didn't have. It was fun as all hell. And the Third Armor still stands as the best armor in the SNES series - complete with having the best mobility with the double dash. Mega Man wouldn't play as fun as that again until the ZX series. I fucking love X3.
I couldn’t have said it better. I was completely addicted to this game at 5 years old and preferred it over x1 back in 1996. I couldn’t believe how amazing it was. And it’s still my favorite game of all time to this day.
I used to play the shit out of these titles. Like literally, playing through everything in every way. I found the Zero Sabre on a regular playthough. I used to have saved passwords for every possible combination of routes, like bit only killed, byte only killed, etc. I even found passwords in X1 that let you start at the end of the game with no upgrades whatsoever. lol
I feel bad for your parents. I didn’t know snes cartridges has literal shit in them but it seems they do and you played so hard it spilled out. Impressive and scary
Gotta love the FMV's of the PS1 version of X3, especially the Volt Catfish one. Lookin all menacing and $hit then jumping down some water slide. Classic Catfish.
Great review. And I definitely needed to hear that at the end. As a reviewer myself, I tended to go thru major imposter syndrome - thinking that bigger TH-camrs have better opinions than myself and having a lotta contempt for hearing them out. Nowadays, that shit is unrealistic. Cause we can't be spokespersons for other people's opinions or the media we talk about. We can only offer what these games brought to us uniquely, like what X3 brought to you. Reviewers are better to be taken empathetically than objectively imo. I enjoy indulging in where they're coming from personally more than stacking up their evaluation with mine. And that's exactly why I got encouraged to make stuff, I wanna know my relationship with games and stuff better. Thanks for that reminder, J.
I just thought of something When Zero gives X his Saber in X3, He returns to HQ to heal When X4 starts and you select Zero, he’s still in the capsule even after X3 and wakes up to get to Sky Lagoon It occurred to me that this is a great transition from game to game if you have the Z-Saber in X3 going into X4 On top of that, Sigma telling Zero he knows his secret in X2 led him to remembering part of his past before confronting Sigma in X4. This amount of detail when you look and think about it is amazing yet subtle
You do know that from X3 and X4 there's a time skip of one year. It's very unlikely that Zero is still battle wounded for a whole year, + in X6 we see X inside a capsule presumably resting, Zero is probably doing the same
@@henischick It never occurred to me that it’s been a year difference between 3 and 4 lore wise I just thought it was cool and made a little bit more sense with what info the games give us But hey that’s my headcanon
I remember finding the Z Saber back on the SNES by playing intact 2nd Doppler stage with Zero (after killing Vile) and he could go through the mini boss door. Super lucky but I was one of the first people to post about it on AOL on a message board. Good old days!
This game caused me to begin using the term "X3 Syndrome". When a game has a lot of cool ideas on paper, but the execution of how they were implemented was half assed and haphazard at best. The best memory I have of this game isn't even when I played it. I was at a friend's house one night and he was doing a run where he wanted to unlock the Z-Saber for X. I distinctly recall he was in one of the last stages before you had to face that mini boss as Zero. There was an enemy mechaniloid on the other side of a bottomless pit. It was pretty late so my friend was getting groggy from having had to focus on playing through the game for the past couple of hours. He had Zero's attack fully chagred so he could kill the enemy with the Z-Saber as he drowsily declared "You're gonna die you piece of shit." before jumping just short of the distance needed to cross the gap, plummeted like a rock, lost Zero for the remainder of the game, promptly shut it off, and refused to play it again for months after the fact. I laughed so hard I was crying.
28:16 Neither am i X3 is my favorite of the x games,it's good that a reviewer finally agrees with me.Yes i know this game has its problems, but still i think this one is a rough gem,you just have to polish it up a bit and Zero project did it for me.Exellent game for replaying every once a while.
I really love how X3 expands on X1. In X1 we get to see X rise to Zero's level/ become even stronger by seeing how he's able to do similar actions that Zero used previously (like the dash) and take down Vile's ride armour later in the game. In X3, we get to see that power gap expand over time as we get to play as both of them (despite the limitations with Zero's gameplay). In X1, we see Vile as a threat that always manages to get the upper hand after we think we've beaten him and we always need Zero's help afterwards. In X3, X is able to completely scrap Vile by himself.
I like this approach. When you say that something is worse than X1 and X2, you’re already setting the bar so high that the comparison really doesn’t say anything.
The ending speech of this video really means a lot to me. That's the main reason I started my TH-cam channel, to express opinions that I don't feel like are being represented by others, (although I still only have less than 500 subscribers).
Happy to see you revisiting this one, J. X3 is my favorite of the series, just playing it when it was new and finding all the secrets for the first time, having my friend show me the game and that you can PLAY AS ZERO (this was a huge deal in X3 and X4 when they were new), the art style on the box and in the manual, such good memories. Oh, did you know you can get the Arm Capsule without the Leg Capsule in the normal game? When X and Zero switch places in the air, it pushes them forward a bit, so a high wall jump from the left, then two character switches will get it for you. Its a fun little trick. Looking forward to X4
In Megaman X4, you should try getting the Arm Parts without backtracking with destroying cannons, then come back to the left, it will spawn, use invincibility, and get up as fast as possible.
Doesn't work. You can't kick off of spikes. There's a spot you can slide on to the right, but kicking off it doens't work, you'll just bump against the spike collision and get nowhere.
been watching your Mega Man X vids since sophomore year, ab 2017-2018, i played the games and watched your vids when i couldn't. im getting back into the series and its nice to have a fresh set of vids on a new found perspective, no matter my opinion, i always appreciate the content
Still watching the video, so pardon me if this is answered but *am I the only one who felt let down that Ryu's Hurricane Kick wasn't a hidden bonus move in X3?*
Mega Man X3 has to be my favourite out of the SNES trilogy. The opening stage is great, it even teaches you how Zero could be played since in this game, he's like a beefier X with 3 charge stages. First two would be two charge shots and the last one is the swing from his sabre, doing devastating damage. Heck, I love how you once you defeat Vile with Ray Splasher and then bring Zero to the mid-boss in Doppler Stage 2, then he straight up gives X the sabre, subtly letting him know that X became even stronger than Zero in any given situation, calling back to that line of dialogue that he told him after saving him from Vile in the first game. The special weapons are great, the armor upgrades are top-notch, the Golden Armour and using the Z-Sabre feels great. the challenge is through the roof with a lot more obstacles thrown in the mix without getting stale and I even think the Ride Armours are fun to use too! I love the Hawk Ride Armor and the Kangaroo Ride Armor. I even find the Frog Ride Armor to be fun to use underwater too! Also, I don't find backtracking in itself to be a bad thing at all, allowing you to solve problems in the most complex of ways, even letting to use charged variants of the Triad Thunder and Gravity Well to find some collectibles too! I even love how after defeating Blast Hornet, him and his stage explodes and causes the blocks in Gravity Beetle's stage to be blown away, letting you get the heart tank on top of causing the two-foot missile bots to lose their cannons on their heads. On top of this, it can even apply to those enemies appearing in other stages too, except for the castle stages because difficulty balancing. Also, I love solving complicated problems, so it's not an issue for me at all. Maybe my brain works differently, who knows? Therefore, I find Mega Man X3 to be my favourite game out of the SNES trilogy and I would rank it in first place. Second place goes to X1 and third place goes to X2.
There's a subtle hint that points toward the Mosquito fight with Zero. If you played the previous two X games, you will have that desire to play as Zero, and try to fight bosses. That would lead you to discover that you can enter ONE of the two boss gates with Zero and at the second gate, X will interrupt Zero and take over. In the Doppler stage 2, you find a Boss gate, not the mid-boss one, in the middle of the stage, and see either a very distinctive but empty room or the Mosquito Boss. Since Zero can enter only ONE boss gate, you will get curious and thus you will try to enter with Zero and have a nice surprise. That's how I did it back in the day, having no access to guides (no internet, no magazines) and it felt great! One of the best moments I had playing games
I dig this. It's got flaws and it's obvious what those flaws are, but they don't bother you and that contributes to your love of the game. Also dig the call to action for consumers to become creators. Not something I'll be doing anytime soon (I did streams as a hobby and quit after it stopped being fun), but it's always in the back of my head as something I should do when I'm depressed or lonely.
I had these games as a kid, and I never beat them but absolutely loved them. I don’t care if they’re imbalanced or “not well designed” (load of crap). They’re fun games
I really appreciate the gradual change in attitude you have toward reviews. I think the best reviewers are those who can appreciate the good qualities in games no matter the flaws (and just have fun with it). Congrats on 100k subs btw
I think X3's biggest strength is just how MUCH there is in the game It feels like a straight up treasure hunt at times, but I will admit the intended methods of getting items is a PAIN. Thankfully Zero Project makes it much better, for example: you can cut the ropes on the boulders with the Z-Saber or Spinning Blade
This is one of my favorite games since it Grew on me as a challenge. I love this, and, for example, Rayman 1; difficult but rewarding games, the reward being the challenge itself (and the music). Your honesty at the end of this video, of you wanting to share your point of view, was really touching.
I also think this game is surprisingly very fun despite the flaws, in fact at the way beginning I thought I'd hate it BECAUSE of how hard enemies hit with your low HP
X3 is my favorite of the SNES trilogy, probably nostalgia since it was my first "X" game, but still, it add so much to the series; playable Zero, many secrets, having his own Ride Armor, the come-back of the iconic Vile now with his own stage, the two other bosses that jump on you. I dont know, it may be all over the places but it feels like a complete package with something to discover every playthrough when you play it as a kid.
I’m pretty sure this is the first video J has uploaded since hitting 100K subs. If I remember correctly, he was still in upper 99K when X2 was released, though I could be wrong. Either way, way to go J, keep up the great work! Also, using the password system, you can actually have any three of the four Enhancement Chips at once. There are passwords that give you two or three at the same time. You can’t get all four of them this way, but it is still pretty cool.
All rise for my favorite mega man x game. I simply love how much there is to do with this game and all the items and personally my favorite set of weapons in the series.
I still remember when I played, i was trying to get the good ending and then I ended up having to do everything again just because I defeated Vile with the buster.
17:14 "Now, Doppler's Stage 1 Remix is a crime against humanity." How Dare You. Joking aside, I think as the music alone I love it, but as for a stage when you're at the final stretch of the game is where it fails, so I understand why you said that. lol
Mega Man X3 is a truly bizarre game. One that I will never fully understand, and even putting behind the nostolgia I have from playing this game I can never truly hate this game. There are some really cool moments and some music is great. All of the additions feel very unneeded and unpolished. Although the initial armor set and weapons are pretty good, and this is one of the most graphically impressive SNES games. A rushed game can be good but it needs the passion. Mega Man 7 was made in 3 months and I think Mega Man X3 was made in a similar time frame. But it feels like out of the gate they had really cool ideas but had to drag themselves along to finish the game to get it done. Most stages feel way to industrial and similar compared to 7's wide variety and fantastic design. Industrial levels aren't bad but they need to be varied and actually work with different resources and environments.
Personally I go Tunnel Rhino Blizzard Buffalo Blast Hornet Neon Tiger Gravity Beetle Volt Catfish (Kill Vile here to get Z-Saber in Doppler 2) Tunnel Rhino (Backtrack) Toxic Seahorse Crush Crawfish. Bit more Buster only but it feels very seamless. Having a good route cleans up a lot of the issues I had with X3 as a kid playing on the X Collection on PS2, To the point it's my personal favorite of the SNES trilogy and one I can go back to at anytime and nab everything. Oh and Spamming Lemons on Neon Tiger will stop em from blocking your shots. Given his telegraphed moves it should be a breeze.
I LOVED this game when it came out. The ability to play Zero was absolutely amazing to me. I hated that his use was so limited, but I was just so stoked to be able to play him at all after wishing I could for the last 2 X games. I also really loved the ride armors as a kid. Having the different armors that all specialize in different things was just so enjoyable to me. I never played Megaman X games to speed run them, I just liked messing around and blowing stuff up. I still remember in the original megaman X I found out that when you fight Vile that first time on the starting stage, you could just hold still and jump to avoid all his punches. I spend like 15 minutes dodging punches and shooting him in the face just to see if it was possible to blow him up. Very cool game.
The leg chip doesn't need two seperate types of air dashes. You can do the horizontal ones twice in a row without issue, and all you need to do to do two upwards ones in a row is to move to the side in between them. You can also air dash after dash jumping. I also love X3, and figuring out an optimal boss order was one of the most satisfying things out there. That's actually why I kind of dislike the Zero Project's item changes, because it makes just about everything findable without many items at all. There's also more variety to the item order than you mention, and seeing your order helped me appreciate that, actually. The order I figured out by myself actually was Tunnel Rhino>Blast Hornet>Blizzard Buffalo>Neon Tiger>Gravity Beetle>Volt Catfish>Crush Crawfish>Toxic Seahorse. I didn't know until *way* recently that you could break the ice blocks in Blizzard Buffalo's stage with the Tornado Fang, I assumed you needed to use the Ride Armor to break them and so always did that. (In case you didn't know, you *don't* need the air dash to get the Heart Tank in Blast Hornet's stage, just jump with the Ride Armor and then jump out and you can climb up the wall) There actually *is* rationale for the crates in Gravity Beetle's stage disappearing after beating Blast Hornet. There's a midboss in Blast Hornet's stage that is a giant ship loading crates onto it. These crates are actually one and the same, and by destroying them here they won't be delivered to Gravity Beetle's stage. Alternatively, if you fought Gravity Beetle before Blast Hornet, since the ship already made its delivery off-screen, it's no longer there to be fought in Blast Hornet's stage. You'll actually see 100% speedruns of this game fight Gravity Beetle *before* Blast Hornet, because skipping said midboss (and killing Blast Hornet significantly faster) actually saves more time than not needing to backtrack to get that heart tank.
My biggest issue with x3 was the ride armors and how useless they are. I've never really had to use them for anything, only doing so because they're there and I wouldn't use them otherwise.
This was the one in the series I HATED because it was too damn hard to get, then when you get the game and turn it on, u die in like 3 hits! But now that I'm an adult I feel there was way more to it and enjoy it time to time.
One of my fondest memories in my early gaming years, was finding the X3 gold armor with no guide. Back then, most of us didn't have internet yet and if we did we didn't know about stuff like gamefaqs. So when I found the gold armor before it was even in any of the print magazines I was hype as hell. I tried to submit finding it to a magazine but I guess someone was just a little faster and got credited for finding it. Still, it was great telling my friends I had found how to get the super secret in X3. They didn't even believe me at first lol.
I honestly don't know how I stumbled onto the Z saber while I was playing this as a kid but because it was so unexpected I got super excited and I still remember it over a decade after it happened. I know it was not great game design but the fact that there were no hints and was so out of nowhere to find it added to the surprise and made it very special to me as a kid.
i found it on my first try since vile was the only miniboss i managed to beat with the right weapon, also i didnt find all the heart containers so i had to resort to zero to get thorugh doppler stage and i didnt even notice i was fighting a miniboss with zero...
The Zero Saber is hilarious because it sounds exactly like one of those playground rumors. "You find a hidden teleporter in one of the stages that warps you to Vile so you can kill him early if you use his weakness and then you go to the second Dr. Doppler stage, change to Zero and fight the midboss (which the game lets you do now) and win and the boss self-destructs on Zero so Zero gives X his lightsaber trust me my dad works at Nintendo."
MegaMan X3 deserves a remake, but in the form of a FPS adventure; like Metroid Prime. It would have to be a really high quality remake though, not a cash-grab.
Funny how as long as I love how fluid animation in x2,x3 remain as my most played MMX games. This game has some charmed to me,Through. Soundtrack,Maverick Design,Armor design. And bosses still fun to fight. X3 might be imperfect but still great experience. If I have to rank MMX games. 1st - X2 2nd - X3 3rd - X5
Counterpoint to your argument about the golden armor. The fact that you need to have collected EVERYTHING in the game, plus be at full health when you reach it, suggests that it's meant to be found by a player who has mastered the game, and thus wouldn't need a guide since they'd have probably explored every chunk of every level in the game. In that sense, its placement and overpowered nature makes sense
X3 is probably my favourite of the snes games cos I always have a soft spot for ambition which x3 has alot of despite following a formula I do think that for the most part its kinda crushed under that ambition with bosses being less complex and damage (especially contact damage) being upped across the board was imo a a fix that did more harm than good for me, its fine on repeat playthroughs but it makes experimenting and learning a pain on a first fun Then you got the zero project that fixes like 90% of my problems with the game its like it has a proper foundation that's been set up to hold up all that ambition and while they were at it they added more stuff like the black armour, NG+ and zero ending etc which I think makes for a smoother transition into X4 as it makes for a nice constant and steady evolution of the series Its not perfect since its a fix to a problem opposed to the problem just never existing in the first place but the zero project is rad as hell big ups Justin3009 for making it
I think that the main problem with X3 is by far it's weird game-design decisions, *specially* the item placement. But even though it has some flaws, it still is an amazing game.
I loved X3 for all the collectables, but the reason I love it the most over all but X4/5 is that I was able to go through the Doppler stage without getting hit to reach the Gold armor, and that was amazing to me.
Thank you for the shout out again! This is such a MASSIVE update in quality from your prior review of X3 in general and prior videos. You are absolutely right about X2 though. It's due to burnout that I just sort of.. gave up. There wasn't too much I would've done with X2 honestly. Have the X-Hunters appear right after the intro, get the Zero parts, Zero is playable. There would be separate text of course like X3. The Black Armor capsule would've been with the Shoryuken capsule. There's no real plot changes for it but it would've been fun to have Zero in there. I did update the Zero Project.. again.. a few months back I think it was? I think it's V4.4 now. Zero can now obtain the Z-Saber Wave like X ONLY if you're in NG+ and have the Black Armor. There's a bunch of bug fixes too. So honestly not much has changed lol. I think adjusted some damage values as well so some bosses and enemies don't smack you for 90% of your health for actually no real reason. I'm very glad you enjoyed my project so much. It's what got me seriously interested into modding SNES games and it's a love project from the heart. As much as I'm burnt out of the X series now from it, it's still something I'm incredibly proud of to this day.
Well, I guess I am due for another playthrough! Thank you for watching both of these. It was an honor for you to comment five years ago and it’s an honor now! You made X3, a game I saw potential in, into a genuinely near perfect game.
My primary issue with the ps1 is they didn't do the guitar solo in the opening stage. I get variety is important but that guitar solo is a human right.
Here's my take on the music: The SNES music feels ultra samey with the very whiney sounding guitar and the PlayStation version sounding remotely different makes me prefer it instantly and tracks like Gravity Beetle and Doppler 1 are among my favorites in the series...on PS1, that is. Totally legit to prefer the SNES version, but I just like the PS1's variety more.
My problems with x3 are relatively the same as Js but I also have an issue with enemy damage. It’s kinda hard to go fast when you die in practically 3 hits, because every enemy even common fodder hits like trucks
I absolutely adore Mega Man X but the thing that absolutely irks me is that I just don't like the SNES instrumentations of the game's tracks. The worst is X2 with the whiny guitar riffs but X3 just ends up forgettable because its just a toned down version of those riffs. X1 had similar issues like in Chill Penguin but Armored Armadillo, Storm Eagle and Spark Mandrill sound really good so it hurts me deeply that the one most consistent thing about Mega Man on the whole just isn't a part of the SNES X trilogy, and they use the SNES version of X3 on the legacy collection so it stings that much more

Storywise, needing the chimera armor first makes sense since it's probably the only "real" armor, and the other ones are just add-ons, as in a being that fuses animal characteristics into itself, thus a Chimera, plus that's why is the only one you actually get as a physical armor, not as a collectible
Gameplaywise, they could've improved it by making it unmissable like the boots in X1, since it IS easy to skip

Getting all chips is a new method to get the gold armor.
Gold armor also gives Zero his black armor
A lot of bugs have generally been fixed
A save system instead of passwords
New game plus has been added
A lot of items have been made easier to get, like removing the charged gravity well platform for the body parts and replacing them with a tricky wall jump you need Zero's double jump or X's up dash to get past and making the boulders in tunnel rhino's stage be able to be knocked down by the Z-Saber, tornado horn, and spinning blade

This series has taught me that there are different levels of perfect
That holds true in real physics about infinity. Not all infinity is equal.
Really? I thought this series taught us about the different mega man X games and critiquing them while also being quite informative And giving a mostly unbiased opinion and perspective on games we would likely never play
Well, perfect can be defined as "flawless" but lacking flaws doesn't inherently mean "best" or "optimum"
I learned this years ago from Cell of Dragon Ball Z. "Semi-perfect", "Super Perfect", etc.
I'm wondering what he's gonna call X4 lol

Mega Man X3 is a very rewarding game. It's probably the hardest game in the series when using just the X-buster (probably even more so than X6), but once you get all the power-ups, including Zero's saber, it feels so good.
The helmet map was strangely more useful in the prototype. In addition to mapping out powerups, it also marks boss rooms, Bit/Byte rooms, miniboss rooms, and Ride Armor platforms.
I ALWAYS thought the 3rd Armor's Buster looked like a vacuum! Thank you!
Did you play x2 ?
What are dash lemons? Im guessing shots while dashing? Were they really strong or something?

I really like X3's OST on the SNES ver.
Ah,I see you're a man of culture as well.
Personally, I prefer the PSX/PC/Saturn music.
It absolutely DESTROYS the PSX version, so awful that one is. The SNES OST is in my top 3 in the series, super underrated.
The biggest thing i didn't like about the PSX version was the charging sound effect. It was already obnoxious in 1 and 2, and this one just made my ears bleed.
Disgusting
(with heavy restrictions, because this is a Mega Man game, not a Zero game.)
You want BIG GAME BREAKING SECRETS?!

I just thought of something
When Zero gives X his Saber in X3, He returns to HQ to heal
When X4 starts and you select Zero, he’s still in the capsule even after X3 and wakes up to get to Sky Lagoon
It occurred to me that this is a great transition from game to game if you have the Z-Saber in X3 going into X4
On top of that, Sigma telling Zero he knows his secret in X2 led him to remembering part of his past before confronting Sigma in X4.
This amount of detail when you look and think about it is amazing yet subtle
You do know that from X3 and X4 there's a time skip of one year.
It's very unlikely that Zero is still battle wounded for a whole year,
+ in X6 we see X inside a capsule presumably resting, Zero is probably doing the same

Quite possibly the greatest name for a Mega Man review ever conceived
Wow, the way you described how the head piece should function was really perfect. You even had a visual. You nailed it.
The new MegaMan X reviews in a nutshell.
Most of the video: A review of the games.
The ending: J's charcater debelpment.
This is a nice remake.
I've tried this and couldn't get it, seems very very difficult

I find myself liking X3 more and more with each replay.
I totally agree with the soundtrack being a total banger. I love it.
Thanks for taking such a long time highlighting the Zero Project. It truly is MMX3 as it should have been from the beginning.
Time for mega man X3. Love the gold armor thumbnail
I think X3's biggest strength is just how MUCH there is in the game
It feels like a straight up treasure hunt at times, but I will admit the intended methods of getting items is a PAIN.
"Imperfect Imperfection"

How Dare You.
Personally I go
Tunnel Rhino
Blizzard Buffalo
Blast Hornet
Neon Tiger
Gravity Beetle
Volt Catfish (Kill Vile here to get Z-Saber in Doppler 2)
Tunnel Rhino (Backtrack)
Toxic Seahorse
Crush Crawfish.
Catfish's theme in the PSX is amazing. It looks like it came straight out of Megaman X4
(In case you didn't know, you *don't* need the air dash to get the Heart Tank in Blast Hornet's stage, just jump with the Ride Armor and then jump out and you can climb up the wall)
There actually *is* rationale for the crates in Gravity Beetle's stage disappearing after beating Blast Hornet.
It's about time that we got that fated X3 rereview. You better have mentioned Zero Project.

J got that character arc going on and it’s beautiful
This was the one in the series I HATED because it was too damn hard to get, then when you get the game and turn it on, u die in like 3 hits! But now that I'm an adult I feel there was way more to it and enjoy it time to time.
Seeing all 3 of these vuds and ur content from more recently u really have become so much better as a content creator easily top 10 for me
the arm cannon on the third armour always looked like a vacuum
😂😂😂😂
That is SO true
MegaMan X3 deserves a remake, but in the form of a FPS adventure; like Metroid Prime.
It would have to be a really high quality remake though, not a cash-grab.
Funny how as long as I love how fluid animation in x2,x3 remain as my most played MMX games. This game has some charmed to me,Through. Soundtrack,Maverick Design,Armor design. And bosses still fun to fight.
X3 might be imperfect but still great experience.
If I have to rank MMX games.
1st - X2
2nd - X3
3rd - X5
My favorite thing about mega man X3 is the X3 part of the logo looks like the >w< emote on its side
KokiRemix is another great remixer for Mega Man music
Amen
Counterpoint to your argument about the golden armor. The fact that you need to have collected EVERYTHING in the game, plus be at full health when you reach it, suggests that it's meant to be found by a player who has mastered the game, and thus wouldn't need a guide since they'd have probably explored every chunk of every level in the game. In that sense, its placement and overpowered nature makes sense
X3 is probably my favourite of the snes games cos I always have a soft spot for ambition which x3 has alot of despite following a formula
I do think that for the most part its kinda crushed under that ambition with bosses being less complex and damage (especially contact damage) being upped across the board was imo a a fix that did more harm than good for me, its fine on repeat playthroughs but it makes experimenting and learning a pain on a first fun
Then you got the zero project that fixes like 90% of my problems with the game its like it has a proper foundation that's been set up to hold up all that ambition and while they were at it they added more stuff like the black armour, NG+ and zero ending etc which I think makes for a smoother transition into X4 as it makes for a nice constant and steady evolution of the series
Its not perfect since its a fix to a problem opposed to the problem just never existing in the first place but the zero project is rad as hell big ups Justin3009 for making it
I was a high school senior from September 2014 - June 2015. I was born 3 years before J in 1997.
I'm a TH-camr, and I love X3. I even write lyrics for some of the level music. "Down down down, under ground, down down down, darkness bound..."

Thank you J for being one of the few others that acknowledge the Third Armor's buster looks like a dust buster vacuum.
17:30 on that note on mega man x 3 music, also check out metaltool’s cover of the opening stage (undefire) and gravity beetle.
I think that the main problem with X3 is by far it's weird game-design decisions, *specially* the item placement.
But even though it has some flaws, it still is an amazing game.
X1: Wait how can you be imperfectly perfect ? You're either perfect or you're not me
Yes a man of culture 👏
X3 definitely is my favorite of the series, I remember when I was younger I used to do runs where I take only one of the pink upgrades.
These rewiews are getting me to play mega Man X. They are that great.
I feel like if I give this game more chances, this would be one of my favorites hands down
I loved X3 for all the collectables, but the reason I love it the most over all but X4/5 is that I was able to go through the Doppler stage without getting hit to reach the Gold armor, and that was amazing to me.
I'm planning on getting the legacy collections since I liked Megaman 11
After playing X 1-4, this game has been the hardest so far lol. Kaiser Sigma with the Max buster was a pain
NGL, the cutscene for boss intro is really cool... shame they didn't continued this on rest X's game XD
The easiest way to grind health is using FROSTSHIELD in Gravity beetle’s stage.
Drops a Tom of health.
You're making me want to invest into the entire mega man X collection series. Congratulations, you are making me want to spend lots of money.
I absolutely adore Mega Man X but the thing that absolutely irks me is that I just don't like the SNES instrumentations of the game's tracks. The worst is X2 with the whiny guitar riffs but X3 just ends up forgettable because its just a toned down version of those riffs. X1 had similar issues like in Chill Penguin but Armored Armadillo, Storm Eagle and Spark Mandrill sound really good so it hurts me deeply that the one most consistent thing about Mega Man on the whole just isn't a part of the SNES X trilogy, and they use the SNES version of X3 on the legacy collection so it stings that much more
I didn't expect my comic to appear in one of your videos heheh 😆what a nice surprise!
also I really enjoy your videos! this one was very insightful! 👍
and I agree, that buster looks like a dust cleaner machine 😂
Just happen to find this video looking for tips and after beating 3 I have to agree with you. In that I hated it as I started because I felt it was cheap and they really phoned in a lot of stages enemies etc. but the more I lost the more determined to beat the game I became and it gave me the same feeling playing X1 in the 90s as a kid. I had just beat 2 and it was way easier and it had most of the same flaws as 3 that said 3 was way more fun than 2 imo.
My ring tone has been the intro stage music to this game since I could remember...
Best armor design for X, IMO. I love the vacuum cleaner lol
Your so young I was playing x3 back in 1996 and 97 my favorite megaman x game till this day. It’s diamond game.
