This paddle is special. I come from a D1 tennis background and freaking love this thing. It’s helped me learn pickleball and be really effective at the kitchen and soft game which is ultimately where are going to win in doubles. For singles, I’d look elsewhere but this thing has the best touch, feel, and direction of anything out there.
I came from the DBD which I actually hated. I just couldn’t keep the ball in the court and was constantly popping balls. Only thing I miss is my serve and put away power but to Lucas point you can hit angles, drop shots, and run people like mad with the luxx. And if you’re somewhat physical you can generate enough power with it.
Same. Mine is over a year old at this point, and I've come back to it after trying some others. There really is nothing like it, but you need proper skill and strategy to use it effectively.
I just purchased the scorpeus (gen 2) and really liking it. Has the control of the luxx for resets / dinks but love it for volleys and packs a little more punch. Winning more hands battles.
I know they say the spray on grit on this wears off fast but is the performance of control reduces it? Even let’s say after a year? I only play 1x/week but i do drive a lot from the baseline.
The Selkirk LUXX control air is a truly amazing paddle. Seriously. I was able to generate a ton of power with this thing and it had the spin to keep my shots inbounds. The control is also top notch. The ball will go where you want it to. My only complaint is the lack of pop at the kitchen but once you realize that you can switch to an angle and placement game and be just as effective. I've played with a lot of s tier paddles lately and this one is special.
Holy crap, Batman....my brain is exploding with all this techno lingo....that said, I did just try this paddle out in a shop this afternoon and my immediate reaction was.....sweeet! So thanks for validating my gut feel about the LUXX. Will probably buy one.
I see a box sitting under my Christmas tree... My wife won't let me open it until the 25th! Pretty sure it's the Luxx Epic! Great review, thanks... (New Subscriber)
Personally, I find this paddle a disappointment. Maybe I'm spoiled by the other paddles I've been using, the Yoola C2, and 6 Zero Double Diamond, both of which are responsive, have great power, spin, and control. The Luxx does have more control, but attacks are considerable weaker. Of course, you can still smash hard, but the same shot would have been 20% faster with the other two paddles.
I’ve hit with this, the DBD, and own a DBD Infinity. I come from a Bread & Butter Filth prior. The Luxx is exceptional at the net which I desire in doubles play. As mentioned in this review, you’re going to lose some driving power with this paddle, but you gain a lot in touch shots with this. My slice volleys are much more easy to control and direct. However, I prefer my DBD Infinity over this because it has arguably the lowest swing weight of all these paddles (maximum maneuverability) and keeps some of the power of the original DBD while hitting harder than the Luxx. However, my sweet spot is noticeably smaller given that the Infinity is edgeless. The price points are also wildly different.
To me, the Double Black Diamond is more of a control paddle relative to the rest of SixZeros lineup. It’s still a hard hitting thermoformed paddle so the Luxx will be significantly softer and better for control.
At this point, I think the Invikta is more well rounded because it’s so much more competitive from the baseline and with full strokes but the Epic and S2 are great if you’re all in for manoeuvrability.
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball Thank You for the reply. I’ve only played a few times but I am hooked and just rather buy a top tier paddle off rip than a cheaper one just to upgrade later lol

@ I will say driving from lower contact points becomes more difficult, but that’s mostly it.
SUPER thorough review, thanks! Confirmed my decision to go with this paddle.

If it is, you're onto a winner!
And thank you for the nice comment!
Yes, please do a spectrum tier list video 🙏🏼
Great Review! Have you played with the GB Pro Control Elongated?
Thank you! Unfortunately not yet but we should be getting them in a couple of weeks!

Definitely love the tier list charts.

Jack Sock is gonna be a beast with this paddle.
He's a beast with any paddle
Well done, Luca!
Thank you!
How does the Luxx compare to Double Black Diamond which is also a control paddle?

Control Air Epic vs S2 vs Invicta please? Which is great all-round paddle?
At this point, I think the Invikta is more well rounded because it’s so much more competitive from the baseline and with full strokes but the Epic and S2 are great if you’re all in for manoeuvrability.
what over grip are you using? it looks different to the tourna dry grip
It's a regular Tourna grip!
No mention of adding lead tape?
I didn't find it necessary on this paddle. The sweet spot is already very big and stable and I didn't want to take away from the manoeuvrability.
Did you place any lead on it for more power/stability?
Honestly, no. I know a lot of people do but I actually like them stock.
is the cj paddle pretty much the same but raw carbon
Which paddle are you referring to?
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleballI think they mean the Collin Johns Scorpeus. I have the same question.
Do the paddle tap sps 1000
Unfortunately, we don’t carry their paddles.
how much lead tape do you add to this?
I actually didn't add any.
I find it funny that you wore blue with your blue paddle😂
Didn’t I hear that someone is going commercial with a respray grit?
Really, who?
@@robedwards6926 it was mentioned on a video I saw a while ago, can’t remember who put up the video but it caught my attention.
So for a new player 1-2 would you recommend the LUXX control or the 6.0 Ruby?
I would lean towards the Ruby; it is a little more well rounded than the Luxx Control Air.
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball Thank You for the reply. I’ve only played a few times but I am hooked and just rather buy a top tier paddle off rip than a cheaper one just to upgrade later lol
Solid
I gotta try this 😂
do you think you can beat ben johns? how come we don't see new faces on PPA
Of course he can’t beat Ben John’s. No one can
I wish 😭
Imagine if they made this with a T700 Carbon fiber face instead of spray on. They wouldn't be able to keep up with sales.
They will eventually make it with raw carbon and it will be even more expensive
Completely different ball game……litterally 😂
