I’ve been into welding 13 yrs. I’ve been to the pipeline, shipyards, mines, rock quarries, and sand plants. And there is absolutely no one bed that does it all. The perfect bed doesn’t exist. All that should matter is if it’s functional and you’re able to finish the job. Anybody coming to this video trolling or trying to ask dickhead questions, let’s see your setup. Anyway, congrats bro, I know that setup works. 🤘🏾

great looking setup. You have a good truck a good machine and a good compressor. A simple setup, but you can do alot of work with what you have. The sky is the limit now. I have carried an axe on my rig for years I don't anymore though. But I never considered having it to cut my cables off. But you normally always have a grinder strung out I'm sure you can zip your cables off with a grinder that is right beside you, quicker than you can run to your truck and grab a tool to cut them off. I used to run them westeran quick connects on everything, But they became more hassle than they were good, simplicity is bliss. you can stand to make a ton of money with that setup of you get yourself into the right job. Very nice man. You are making Hayden proud, And he is proud what you are doing with that bed.

Excellent call on the air compressor. Nice job rebuilding it as well. Even if you don’t use your air tools very often, you definitely need an air compressor to blow off all the rust and shavings and grinding and dust and dirt and everything else. So nice job! 👍

New sub here. Great job on your rig, I too prefer old gear that has been restored than new stuff, you did an excellent job one the restorations. I like your attention to detail. I have a small farm service trailer I use, well, on my farm. Picked up a few tips from your setup. You're spot-on regarding the grinders. I have a grinder for each task. I quit the ole one grinder setup where you're constantly wasting time swapping consumables.
I'm old and appreciate that every other word in your videos is not the F word. I know, I know, you younger folks laugh at that but some people don't like it as part of normal conversation...I'm one of those people. There are tons of welding channels, if I can't watch them in my house without my daughter asking me "what the heck are you listening to?", I just find another channel that is family friendly. Thank you for that. I know that sounds corny but hey, when you get my age you will appreciate your attitude change that comes with it, you just don't tolerate stuff that annoys you...and you become proud of that fact. lol
    Keep up the great content!

Nice truck. I removed my back seat for more room. Gives you another foot in the back seat. It’s just 2 or 4 bolts and it comes right off. I stuffed my backseat when I took mine out. Built a bottom that goes to the very back.

Spray foam is useful for finding the leaks in car roofs, just dig in a little wherever i leaks out and fill it with proseal.
But other than that I will use clear RTV and some windex on my fingers to smooth it over any and all seams.

for the jerry silicone glove over the male parts of the quick disconnects, if you get two more female quick disconnects and just plumb a cap in them, then you have two quick disconnect caps for the males when they aren't in use, and with a little chain or paracord they will stay on the truck even if you forget to put them on

    • @mcfwelding

Nice work! I would suggest taking the back seat right out if you don’t need it build a level platform across the back that will make life easier running the smaller truck Get an inverter for the truck 2000 watts. They’re handy for multiple reasons and you don’t have to always run the welder for power. You will always be working on organization when running a truck know I’m always brainstorming how to make my service truck more efficient and better with my storage.

Nicely done, Matt. I’m toying with the idea of making my Ram 1500 a rig, but also considering converting one of my trailers to a mobile platform. I have a Primeweld Cut 60 plasma, Miller Bobcat, & a couple multi-process welders. Of course the squares clamps, pipe stands, & numerous grinders. My issue is my truck looks brand new, and has low milage for a 2015. Thus my quandry about rigging the trailer vs. the truck. I only want to do a side hustle as well, but want to be well equipped. I like my Chief needle scaler, and have a 30 gal upright compressor that I would use for the plasma and air tools. I think you’ve done a good job on that 2001 Ram 2500.

    • @mcfwelding

Man I wis I had that truck, its as old as me and runs as good as new. I'm currently doing mobile welding side hsutle on my parents mini van my welder, generator oxy acetylene tools etc . But I'm also a welding student in college been doing it for 3 years had the confidence to do mobile welding since I can't find a job anywhere and paying for college is a burden to my parents and feel like I need to make money yet my insructers dont want me doing it but since I'm broke and dont qualify for financial aid or scholarships and loans is all they tell me to get which I refuse to be in debt for life. I'm willing to take the risk to do this type of work and not let no one stop me. from going to the gym and workout and welding stuff to pay for my education. I hope to get to your point one day thanks and congrats.

I save those little desiccant packs and put them in my rod tubes, anti spatter will save your ass on hydraulic rams-one bit of spatter will ruin your day, also if you weld on anything with air brakes keep a handful of push-connect unions in 1/4 3/8 and1/2. cool rig and good luck!

The only thing I'll add is that your side hustle is your business. You're a mobile welder be it part time or full time.
So keep track of any expenses including wear and tear on all your equipment and consumables. I would itemize all of it on the invoice. Customers become more agreeable when they see the expenses listed out.

Great start bro. I would get some small angle from supplier and make some shelves in those boxes. Also i run a compressor on my rig, and hated the amount of space it took up. I yanked the tank off, and put it under the bed. 17 gallon. Love your setup though. You can air arc with that compressor. Just use 1/4 or 3/16 rods. Go easy. Your not gonna go buck wild, but lil by lil you can do it

If your only using the truck for welding, I’d pull the rear seat throw some sound deadening and attach a thin sheet of uhmw on the back rest ( just so the cab stays quiet n still looks decent on the inside ) it’ll free up at least 1/2 foot of space in the back there, if not a bit more… Rig looks great👌🏼🤘🏼

Nice rig bro. It’s definitely a clean setup! With you being a fitter I was pretty surprised that you didn’t have any 1/8” grinding wheels.

You Could remove the back seats completely and have more cab space, more dry or warm space depending on where you live
