The General is absolutely going to take India in the right direction. But there must be checks and independent audits along the way

Change is the necessity of time and Gen. Rawat seems very determined to bring it into the loose ageing system. Hope forces will achieve greater heights in all means under you competent leadership. Jai Hind

Good thought process. Hope it doesn't die down like previous initiatives. But fact remains that we need to stop imports and give encouragement to our private industry. Unfortunately, the govt defense industry has not been innovative and come out with quality products. Getting in Indian private industry is going to increase competition and kill the lethargy of the government industries. Problem is also with DGQA, IFA. These agencies also have to become more responsive and realistic. And yes we need to pole vault

Congratulations for getting CDS one to one. However, I was expecting bit pointed questions to CDS Sir since MR Rawat is well known to support self reliance in defence- Atmnirbhar Bharat. There are few questions where I do not see much public debate. Could you please have some more public debates involving all stake holders. Consider following: 1. Procurement of NUH for Indian Navy is getting in some push and pull from HAL and Navy. Navy seems to prefer SP model citing quality and speed of production, whereas HAL says that in 5 t category they have huge experience and so they should be allowed to participate in the tender. I would like to share my views on it. Navy wants SP model involving Indian and foreign private companies. HAL proposed to participate on its own or in collaboration with a foreign company. Probably, govt would like to support capacity building in Indian Pvt sector with the help of foreign technology provider with a long term view of getting technology assimilated in the country and creating a good defence production system. Here we are missing some thing. Why don’t we let Indian Pvt sector join with HAL to manufacture NUH. Here it is important that Pvt sector would be the majority stake holder with HAL as minority partner. It could be in the form of a new company where govt puts equity on behalf of HAL and selected Pvt sector holds major equity say 74%. In order to have a fair competition, many Indian Pvt players be allowed to submit their bids while HAL provides the technology. I have some more details involving financial, legal, technical and administrative aspect of this proposal. 2. Similarly for MWF, we should have consortium where lead partner should be a Pvt entity. HAL and other pvt companies could be minority equity holders. In order to bring the good efficiency and excellent corporate governance, it is a must to have a Pvt entity as the majority stake holder. L&T could make SSBN with the help of Indian govt institutions like BARC and unnamed foreign players and other Indian players so why can’t be have a good fighter flying made by Indian Pvt sector with the support of HAL. After all, indian tax payers have been created HAL. So in the national interest such actions are needed. Kalyani group has made different types of howitzers in a very short period of time. However in my view in the development of these guns, systems and protocols of our forces have been the major impediments. They are still of the time of WW II. It reminds me the newer tanks manufactured by Germans in 1930-40. Their development cycle, about 70-80 years ago was much better than us in 2020. Germans were fortunate that they did not have Indian ways of certification and quality control which basically controls the speed of development rather than anything else. I propose an independent body of certification involving technical experts from industry and academia. Army should be freed from such tasks. The reason for not involving the forces in certification is that technology, modern management, processes have made drastically changed. We should bring in those kind of talent from out side to assist our army. Basically, it provides a better alternative.

India need to change its strategy from just in time to well in advance or before time. We are already witnessing the deaths of Indian troops at the border and some issues could have been avoided if had the ingenious weopans, AI technology and other aspects that we brag about but is never seen on ground.

I am sceptical of him. Recently he said IAF will abandon procurement of 114 jets to be manufactured locally by foreign suppliers and instead buy 80-90 Tejas. This would have been terrible but the IAF chief later cleared the air and said that 114 jets procurement will happen.
