I think HAL should focus on production line and create atleast a massive assembly line for Helicopter production and Tejas production. To reduce the cost even further. Also they should do R&D with private players or DRDO to develop engine technologies for fighter jets and helicopters. This should be the primary goal in next 2 years.

Fighter jet lines cannot be automated. Because minute of minute details matter. It’s a lasting asset. Only thing that will be automated will be 3D printing and ovens for baking carbon fibre components. Which is why the production is slow. What they need is expansion and shifting it in the outskirts of Bengaluru city. What I fear more is security. As you can see, right at the HAL compound, residential plots are located. Anyone can spy from a distance.
Brother I don't think there are any robots/machine in the market that you can use to automation a aircraft manufacturing. Even if there is some machine that big players are using like boing or Airbus, They are not going to sell it to anyone. These kind of tech has to be develop inhouse through RND and its a Step by Step process and you should not expect highest efficiency so early.

It’s basically plug and play. On the other hand, Raytheon manufactures radars for F35 and USS. Also the assembly line is more streamlined because of NATO demand. Most of the member states have to rely on US. So the contractors have no other option but to automate few things but not the production in itself. Orders are already in place. For Tejas, countries bave shown interest not purchase orders. For manufacturing 90 aircraft for Indian Air Force, you don’t need an assembly line. Also nations are waiting for mark 2 desperately. Once that happens, then you will see rapid shift in production process.

So are the Dassault Business jet production line. Hopefully within this decade. At max we should give additional 36-72 order for Rafales, and save the money there to invest it in Tejas mkII & AMCA (with upto 50% help of private cos for faster completion) projects.. everytime due to such foreign acquisitions our own excellent projects remain dead... if we commit for 90 more Rafales, then forget abt Tejas mk II & AMCA... it will cause severe delays, as we'll be paying the French untill 2035 and not enough funds will be left for our own Tejas... Tejas is one of the rare beautiful projects by DRDO which shld not be delayed by filing french pockets #Jaihind

No private company will come or invest big in a volatile ,uncertain sector like fighterjets or helicopters when there is already an established public sector because govt preference will always go towards the public sector by hook or by crook. To create a fair competition only private or only public companies should be there. Noone was interested in Amca for same reason.
And the sad part is, the soldiers on the frontlines bear the brunt of this lopsided and sad state of affairs.. The PSUs will never step up or be as accountable or efficient as the private sector. There’s neither a carrot nor a stick to do so..

HAL has left the civil sector alone, yet nobody has taken up any design for a light aircraft or a light heli for the India civil market, which is huge and unexplored. Why should we blame HAL, which does R&D and has unrivalled R&D capabilities in India. I just laugh at people who say HAL should be shut down.
All the 13 R&D centres and the design and production plants of HAL need to have their own air museums where schoolchildren at class 9 or 10 or 1st can come once in 6 months to just be aware of working in the aerospace and space fields. Great interview, showcases a lot of things. But, please do ask about HAL’s efforts about building a Het engine for fighter aircraft from the ground up indigenously. After 75 years of independence we are still begging the US for jet engines for the Tejas and in the event of a war if sanctions are imposed on the supply of GE jet engines HAL will not be able to build anything to supply for the Indian Airforce. It’s imperative we stop this slow sluggish laid back government job approach in HAL and work tirelessly to build an indigenous jet engine for Tejas and AMCA. Ask such questions and make sure they realise they have a lot to do than to rejoice for what little they have done in 60years. This is purely Constructive criticism, we need to apply ourselves and get going NOW.

nobody is goody two shoes. Armed forces has a lobby/tendency to import aircraft because of kickbacks and babus in PSUs have a tendency to delay projects. FURTHER, the most important thing is money. There is no money for R&D, therefore there is no innovation. Almost 50% of the defence budget goes towards pensions.
Excuses ? Without accountability ? Stupid, they have to keep accountability of every single thing, even more than private, which is why they are held back.
Invest in american and GE engines from canadian or singapore channels so that they supply 200-2000 engines on demand. And make the 21 production units of hal work efficiently. No worries if the cost go up. We can always charge the american allies buying F35 to go for tejas too with their fuel efficiency. Plus tejas have the hardpoints to survive strikes if caught on the radar. And can even trade jet fuels for our partners on demand.
9:34 Tejas mk 1A lacks Foc certification. It is not even inducted in IAF yet. Will be there by 2025. - Rejection: Argentina/ Nigeria/ Botswana/ Egypt/ Indonesia - All went for F-16, Gripen, Italian, Korean k-50.

For reference only Lockheed Martin of USA yearly produce 156 F35 aircraft, let alone other aircrafts or other companies.

nobody is goody two shoes. Armed forces has a lobby/tendency to import aircraft because of kickbacks and babus in PSUs have a tendency to delay projects. FURTHER, the most important thing is money. There is no money for R&D, therefore there is no innovation. Almost 50% of the defence budget goes towards pensions.
it depends on the then govt. how a PSU performs. When the govt. is good and make PSU accountable then the perform as we can see for the past 10 years.

Invest in american and GE engines from canadian or singapore channels so that they supply 200-2000 engines on demand. And make the 21 production units of hal work efficiently. Plus tejas have the hardpoints to survive strikes if caught on the radar. And can even trade jet fuels for our partners on demand.
