Some clients are so worse , when you send them a practical logo like the one James made. They outright reject that. And then they like the one with vector microphone.

I was hoping that Will could judge you fairly, but sadly he could not. Your logo cannot be scaled down and used as app icon. He was bashing previous guy for that and did not even mentioned that for you.
@@Zarezy I totally agree with you. I unfortunately ran out of time. For three hours, you have to get a quick design and move on to color and presentation. I would have definitely worked more on scaleability.

Unless James at 7:40 is an absolute machine of a designer there is no way he created all variations, presentation, and posters in 3 hours, unless he is using some type of templates for everything
I’m sure he used a template for the 3d mock-up and maybe even the posters, but I feel like a lot of the extra stuff can be done pretty quickly by an experienced designer. Especially if he uses a similar presentation style for other clients.
The $150 one was simply and mildly put - TRASH!!! That guy doesn't really know much of logo design. Rest were all at least workable or usable even if not perfect, but sensible for the price. The $300 one just stood out because he took a totally different approach although I don't think I instantly recognized that as a vintage microphone.
James hit the nail in true terms. Considering how the Brands are approaching and rebranding, every logo is being turned into a minimal one! Not just that but the logo made by James is just too good to look at and its checks every requirement and condition on the list needed by a legible logo
Logan's reminds me of the Apex Legends logo, Henry's gives me that 90s Morning Radio show vibe, James' logo feels like Pintrest, Patreon, etc but different enough in a good way, and David reminds me of a modern small business/brewery logo. All of these were really well done and are good inspirations for an aspiring designer like me
You should create an open brief on twitter as a "design competition" and show you favourite type of results in a video. This way someone like me can participate with other designers and get attention by you and your viewers/this community.

We do something like this already :) it’s called Come design with me if you want to find it on the channel - although we haven’t done one in a little while now!
While I don't necessarily have any issue using vector pre-mades, it's all about implementation and what you do to improve on the stock assets. This being said, I've worked for companies who do this as a time saver, and as much as it crushes the designer in me, most clients don't give a shit about perfect original creations. It shouldn't be the rule or anything, but sometimes we need to remember that we aren't doing work for other graphic designers.

Kaigai put in about $300 more work than Mr Experienced designer at the end there. Honestly, if you've got any qualification beyond a Certificate in Graphic Design and you're charging less than $150 for a logo, you're selling yourself short.
Going into this, I was thinking that I could be at the top of the list with my skill level. INSTANTLY humbled when I saw Dave's work. 3 hours for everything he made there?! That would take me at least a week! He is truly an embodiment of an expert and has inspired me to keep learning.
David showed an asthetic, a feeling. I find this to be a very difficult task for a Designer. I adore his take on it. It makes one kinda feel like what the podcast is about.
i think the first one was the best as it was simple and remarkable. the second was the worst, it didn't have a right word connection as pc = personal computer and it certainly looked as it was made using some clip art in the 90s. the third one reminded me of oldness because of the similarity to walking stick so didn't really spot on the idea it was trying to express. and the fourth one was just fancy. perhaps it's a good design but i like it simple.
I really liked the colour scheme of Logan's idea, had a vintage professional feel to it - which I can see might not fit the brief fully, but man it was sexy.
Although all designers did correct and an OK work in minimal, I also think James nailed it with the design. The most compact one with combining P, r , sound waves and even wi fi perhaps ? Also, works best as an icon with it`s smooth lines and colors. Keep up the great work !
Honestly i think David KILLED IT, James did well but honestly, James logo reminds me of a cell phone company. I could see that logo on a sales associate. I can see David's logo as a PODCAST logo. 100%
I like that they did a presentation that made it easy to make feedback on. While Henry's problem is that one wouldn't know where to start the corrections because of no presentation. A presentation is important to start correction like on the colour, on the size, on the metaphoric etc.

How do you curate your selection for these videos out of your subscribers. Would love to be involved in one of these, I find the briefs you propose exciting, challenging and the feedback, breakdowns and educational format you take makes an informative watch without bombarding the audience. It's always interesting to see the perception of value and how different price points sometimes can reflect accurately or in-accurately of the work produced in response to the brief regarding their outcomes.
Hi Kyle, we like to choose different ways :) so far we’ve done Fiverr, Twitter, Discord and choose a random selection of designers from those who respond of different prices and experience levels :) I’m glad you like the briefs! That’s one of the more fun parts of my job! 😇 Mindscape was my best one for sure, which we did actually turn into an app that I still use regularly!
I've been looking at all of these videos and getting to the brief and then give myself about 20-30 minutes to work on the design before continuing the video. This is the first one that I genuinely liked mine more than all of those presented. Nobody here seemed to consider the possible educational aspect. I feel that a podcast in itself is far too vague for certain expectations since there are innumerable different topics and formats. (Edit: I just noticed pencils in the last one) I personally ended up with a very basic open book (to represent the story-telling and professional/educational component), with the microphone in the center, sound wave to the right for "P" (which everybody thought of).
@@aahritya_tv I disagree, a few times my designers have sent me "digital" designs accidently using CMYK colour space and I notice the difference right away. Washed out, or grainy looking, dimmer colours etc.

You exactly say what is in my mind. This is absolutely true that in most of the cases clients go for the worst one not for the creative one.

I liked the 1st one. It kind of made me think of a space ship blasting off or reaching the top of a mountain peak towards success.

@@aahritya_tv I disagree, a few times my designers have sent me "digital" designs accidently using CMYK colour space and I notice the difference right away. Washed out, or grainy looking, dimmer colours etc.
@@takoshihitsamaru4675 thats true, but unless you select washed away colors, you won't get them. Also in that presentation case, its not CMYK for sure
