!!! thanks for listening to them! the drummer is amazing. He's Jon Karel, of another, even more insane band, The Sawtooth Grin aswell, who I saw at Mathcore Indexfest in New York this year.
He is indeed a trained jazz muscian. :) A very great guy too, love him. He talked to me and handled my fanboying very well.
i was very skeptical of him after he replaced the original drummer for The Number Twelve, but now he's my favorite muscian of all time.

So, i've been into these guys since about 2005. Back in the high school days. I love your mention of Mr. Bungle. Patton was in Dillinger for a while and the Number 12 and Dillinger were contemporaries. I actually saw both bands, without Patton of course, on Dillinger's farewell tour back in 2018 in Europe when they were touring with the Number 12. I feel like if you're iffy about these guys, and I mean generally speaking, not referencing the content creator here, you have to think back to the early 2000s, the emo, sort of, beginnings of post hardcore, these guy were immense. They were such incredible instrumentalists. You have to put yourself in that time period, if you remembered it, to get this band. Jon Karel, who you mentioned as the a jazz drummer, yeah, he was a good drummer, and he helped with song writing, but it was mostly Alexis, the guitarist. What an incredible band. They are back together again, but with a smaller ensemble. Just a four-piece. Anyway, great band that is still going. Just a bit heavier and less emo these days. Those days of the screamo are are of long gone. For better or worst. still the are great to this day.

This band was fantastic. I have to see if I can find some of the Dillinger stuff with Patton, I need to hear that.

Oh wow someone actually did a Number Twelve reaction. Nice. Thanks for this, been keeping an eye out every now and then for awhile :)
Yeah you're spot on on the jazz school thing. These guys all dropped out of jazz school in their final year to focus on the band instead. It never ended up getting anywhere but it's one of the most underrated underground metalcore bands that ever existed imo. So innovated and jazzy, in this genre nothing has really come close to it since.
Another cool band that's releasing currently that hardly anyone has heard about is black midi. Coincidentally enough another group of art schoolers. Their 2nd album which came out a few months ago, Cavalcade, is a jazzy proggy rock masterpiece. I'd recommend checking out the tracks "Slow" or "John L" off that as they're the two singles.
Also a great band with a few reactions but not many is The Mars Volta. Experimental avant garde specialists that were releasing in the early 2000s. These guys are completely untrained altogether and have an incredibly complex mix of chaos and dynamics that make it sound completely timeless. Could've released today and it'd still be just as groundbreaking. Imo the best album is Amputechture, the song "Tetragrammaton" is a long one but it's one of the best songs ever recorded imo.

Mars Volta is AMAZING!! I agree 100% with you, so much stuff going on in their music. #12 is an insane band, I need to listen to some more when I have time, even if they are not together anymore. I knew instantly I was listening to experimental Jazz just disguised as Metal.
I haven't ever heard of Black MIDI. That is something I am going to need to check out. I hear a lot of prog stuff, but lately I haven't heard any Prog Rock. It kind of went away for a while. Glad to know there are some still out there. Thanks for the suggestion, that is going on my list for sure.

@@CaptainFaceBeard Awesome, looking forward to the black midi reaction for sure! Easily the most exciting band of the last decade for me, these guys have just tapped into that musical aether and are on a whole other level
If you do end up reacting to John L by them, I reckon it'd be better to avoid the music video. It's okay but it's just kinda really weird and most peoples reactions just end up focusing on that instead of the music which is phenomenal

@@KahurangiSteez Completely forgot about it. Sorry about that, but thank you for reminding me. We do a reaction stream every Thursday on Twitch: www.twitch.tv/captainfacebeard at 2PM PST/6PM EST. Going to put that on the top of the list for this Thursday. I will check out the music video for John L, cuz I want to see how weird it is, and because I know we will talk about both, not just focus on one of the other.

    thanks so much man.
literally out of the 100s of requests i make.
NOT A SINGLE other channel has done one.
    appreciate it a lot :)
    cool you mentioned mr bungle.
that band was one of the bands listed on tn12lly's inspirations list back in the day
if you have time i got some stuff idk if youd like or not been trying for years to get someone to react to
    set to stun.
no idea what songs cause every song is different.
id say staria 1 (opening song, pretty straight forward) and staria 2 (the closer/ sequel)
tbh idk tho. dead or alive youre coming with me and necronomicon are good as well
the one band i want some one to truly react to is
the blood brothers. most ppl cant stand his voice, but its another band that had mr bungle as an influence as well.
again, no idea what song cause every song over 4 albums are all diff
ill just go with the first song i heard in HS that got me into them
    blood brothers - USA NAILS
    if not its cool.
glad you liked grandfather at least :)

Not a problem, I try to get to every song people ask for, but it takes a bit of time. I always take screen shots and you have given me some awesome suggestions. I am going to check all of this out but I will put the Blood Brothers one first since you haven't seen a reaction to it yet. Thanks for all the suggestions.

      @@CaptainFaceBeard thats cool man thnx.
i havent gotten anyone to do either of those bands actually lol.
both are so hard to choose a song for.
same goes for the , the number 12 looks like you, song.
i could pick 2 other songs and you probaably wouldnt think they were from the same band lol
thought about making my own channel.. i really dont have time, let alone, dont want to get spammed with the same ol shit every other channel does

@@DeathShark00 I love bands like that, where you pretty much have to show someone 3-5 songs so they actually get an idea of the scope of the band.
I hurt myself pretty bad, ended up with a spinal cord injury (Is all good, I can move around and stuff, just pain, and sometimes my legs make me drunk walk) so I had decided it was time to give TH-cam a serious try. People have asked me for years, "Why aren't you on TH-cam?" and I finally just went "Yeah, why am I not on TH-cam."
It is time consuming, mostly because of the learning curve, but I am thinking of putting some videos up showing how I edit videos. Editing started as a process that took me a couple of hours, but once I learned the software well, I can now edit a 14 minute video in only a few more minutes than it takes to watch it. Sometimes, I can get that 14 minute video done in 5 minutes, if there is very little that has to be cut out :)

I had never heard any Tomahawk though, so I still have a reaction to them I have to do. Mike is one of the most incredible voices on the planet. His vocal range is larger than Mariah Carey.

Oh, I love weird music, so if you have any suggestions for weird music, feel free to tell me. Soon I am going to do some videos to showcase some of the weird music I love, starting with an obscure band called Soul Coughing.

    • @needfortweed8734

@@CaptainFaceBeard yeah. But the key thing about Patton is not only that he have a great range, but his voice can do so many things. I have a soft spot for the crooning patton found on the Lovage album he appeared on with Dan the Automator, or his guest spot at one song featured another Dan the automator project, "Got a girl".

    • @needfortweed8734
      @needfortweed8734 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@CaptainFaceBeard I am well known for my taste for bizarre and weird music. I will probably stick a few suggestions on your other reaction videos. It might not be very weird, but Bill Frenzer has a nice song called "I am happy now". His voice doesn't come close to the range of Patton's voice, but on many of the songs he did with The Ogden Edsl he sounds halfways demented. I don't know if music that is not in English is something that you'd like to do, but if you do you might want to check out the satirical band Røde Mor and their song "Smæk". They also have what I would call a rather unique vocalist. This is a 70s band of the more politically inclined variety, and that shows in their satire. The song I mentioned is basically about a guy that according to himself have felt different from everybody else since childhood. For some odd reason he stumbles upon a porn shop. The owner says "I can see that you are a sadist" and gives him a whip. He then goes along hitting (a hit is a "smæk") stuff like trash cans, old people, neighbours and so forth. He then gets into trouble with the police for hitting people, does his time, gets out, and the first thing he does is whipping a hippie. This leads him to getting hired by the police to hit other hippies. And that, right there is his happy ending. The punchline is that he, as a police office, finally gets paid to hit people (mostly hippies). The thing about the vocal is that as a Norwegian speaker I can understand a lot of Danish. The way he yells and "sings" the word makes it rather difficult to understand to me. I think I have listened to most of their tracks multiple times just to tease out the meaning found in those almost wailing kind of vocal.
If you are more into English language stuff, I would advise you to give Tiger Lillies a spin. Start out with their song Bully Boys (there is a video for that song on youtube) and see what you feel about the so called dark cabaret stuff that they do. A lot of their music sounds like a more carnival-esque version of Tom Waits, often sung like somebody had kicked Tom Waits in the nuts (high falsetto). Their lyrics are often quite crude and seems to dwell on the life at the seedy side of the road.

His voice is often said to be one of the most versatile voices ever. He was the Anger Sphere, in Portal, and the monsters in I Am Legend. Have you heard of Phantomas? It's another one of his bands, and if I remember correctly, it is mostly Opera music sung in Spanish.
