Glad you liked it! Y'all made my night. Revocation is my current favorite metal band. Judson would probably like more from this album (A Starless Darkness is journey through space and time) or maybe he should jump into more thrashy Dismantle the Dictator. Thanks. Keep up the good work!
Communion, Bound By Desire, No Funeral, Scorched earth Policy, The Blackest Reaches, Archfiend, hell there is a lot of Revocation songs that come to mind whenever I want to recommend something from them. Lol
Never heard of these guys and I'm forever impressed by the level of talent out there that gets little to no attention. The metal genre never ceases to amaze me with it's many faceted nooks and crannies of incredibly talented individuals. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, i think Opeth is going to have to be next on my wish list. That said Richard, I'm looking forward to seeing you expose our lab rat to more of the stuff that you're passionate about. Yeah i said it, he's our lab rat now.
He’s definitely our lab rat. I have a couple more Opeth songs lined up to get done soon. I have a few things that I’m passionate about that I’m going to show him soon as well. Judson’s been busy goofing off at the theater with Tchaikovsky but we should be getting together within the next few days. ‘Tis the season.
To say Revocation gets little to no attention is off base in my opinion. They are one of the biggest names in pushing modern metal. Sure it’s subjective depending on your musical world, but trust me this band means a lot to a lot of people.
I do love Revocation! Good choice on the song from your patron; Outer Ones is one of my favorite albums by them! It should also be said that Dave is a Berklee graduate, hence why he mixes so many different compositional techniques, unique chord progressions and scales into his music. He's a real monster on the guitar and always plays flawlessly live. The last time I saw them Dave announced the entire band had been "drinking all day" when they started their set! Despite being quite rowdy and intoxicated, they didn't miss a single note for their ~1 hour set. On the tour before that, Dave literally fell down and broke his wrist near the end of one of their sets and he STILL played their last two songs almost flawlessly! There's a live video of the entire set on TH-cam; dude is a real trooper! He was in a cast and only doing vocals for the rest of the tour; I think they had STEMS they pumped through the speakers to compensate for the missing guitar. I tend to describe them more as thrash metal, but they definitely have a lot of tech death and progressive death metal influences... Along with jazz and even classical in terms of composition. It's amazing they're so prolific with their massive discography despite being so complex!
Since Judson kinda liked this one, I have a few recs from the tech / progressive death category, in case they'd be new to both of you... Psycroptic - "As the Kingdom Drowns" Beyond Creation - "The Inversion" Obscura - "Akroasis" Fallujah - "The Void Alone" Also, fwiw, "The Exaltation" is probably my favorite Revocation song. Cheers guys
Raist.. Lynn... Is how i pronounce it.. Raistlin majere.... Its a evil wizard from the d&d dragonlance books... One of my fav characters... There's loads of awesome songs from "The Outer Ones" album. I'd go with "Ex Nihilo" (instrumental) or even "The Outer Ones" song.
Try their instrumentals Spastic and Across Forests and Fjords

Raistlin is a character in the dragonlance chronicles. Wonder if that’s who requester was a fan of
Strong recommendation: SAVATAGE - Gutter Ballet
