Hi Friends, I hope you are well. Today, I pulled out the soap-making ingredients that I've had sitting on my shelf for years and actually made some soap! I made some oat and honey soap and it was so much fun and so easy to do! We'll have to wait and see how it turns out but I think I might have found a new hobby. I also made up a large batch of beef stroganoff for dinner. I hope you enjoy coming along with me.
Thanks for watching!

I have a skincare business and over 11 years have made hundreds of pounds of soap. I sell tons and provide for my whole family. We love homemade soap. I wouldn’t waste extra virgin olive oil as the good properties are destroyed. Just use regular olive oil. The lye doe etch into your utensils. You cannot wash it out completely. You did your research and did a good job!! I leave all my dirty soaping dishes overnight before washing. The caustic part is mostly gone and you just have soapy dishes. They aren’t oily any more.
How is that such a caustic product as lye is added to soap for one's skin? It it rendered harmless in the process?
Even tho I am a hobby soap maker, I did invest in soap specific tools to use. I found them at places like goodwill and facebook marketplace. I also stopped using EVOO and THANK YOU for the suggestion of leaving the soaping dishes overnight. Cleaning that stuff has been the bane of my existence!
Thank you so much for your advice. ♥️
I agree completely!
Safe for a septic if I leave them overnight? Thanks.
The top cupboards should be painted the sage green like the bottom ones. Everything would match perfectly. Your Christmas tree and village are beautiful. Love & Hugs from Laurie
I think you mentioned getting new valences. If you paint the cabinets green and then get a light airy white material with green sprigs it would pull it all together and still be lite and clean.
I vote for painting the cabinets green since you have all the white appliances. Plenty of white to keep things looking light and bright.
I've been making soaps with recycled oils for the last 3 years as a hobby. Now I mainly use my homemade soaps for everything. I do use a separate set of utensils. You'll never know when working with chemicals. Good job on your effort!
Sage green would be beautiful. Love your videos ❤
The sage green will show off those beautiful logs even more.
I think painting the upper cupboards that lovely green will be perfect.
Hello from Michigan
Some helpful info when soap making.
Use plastics with the recycle number of 2 or 6
And temps should be within 10’ of each when adding.
Use a point thermometer
And the reason I don’t use only for soap making, is the taste transfers into food and my family says things taste like soap.
And clean up when the soap has sooonified in the container. Easier than cleaning oils
Beautiful first time soap making.
Enjoy your soaps
So helpful! Thank you!
Yay! A shout out to Jammerill! ❤
I want a cow for Christmas! Yes, paint upper cabinets green.
You did a wonderful job with the soap! If you do end up buying designated utensils for the hobby, you should consider using stainless steel and silicone instead of plastics. I used stainless milk shake containers to mix the lye and oils, they are sturdy and inexpensive. You can easily pour from them into a stainless pot or bowl to blend. I've had plastic melt and canning jars explode on me, never a problem with the non-reactive stainless.
Thanks for the tip!
I always keep a spray bottle of vinegar close at hand just incase lye gets on my skin. The vinegar will neutralize the lye. I prefer to make hot process in a slow cooker. Only need to wait a few days before you can use the soap, the longer you wait the harder it gets. We make a year supply of soap and chap sticks in the middle of winter when we’re stuck inside.
Thank you!
My sister has a problem with the winter season so she got a special light that she sits in front of while reading it has make a great difference every winter ❤
Would love to homemade soap
I think the cabinets will look great all the same color. It was the first thing I noticed about your kitchen that the top cabinets were not the same as the bottom.
You and jammerill Stewart are two of my favorite channels ever! Im so happy you're using one of her recipes !!!
Well my sister makes her own soaps and you made me happy by seeing it done (she lives hundreds of miles away). Second, you could just take a cupboard door off that is already painted and hold it up 🤷♀️
I painted my cabinets a similar green color. We love them. I vote green.
You make it look so easy! I might just try my hand at soap making thanks! And my vote is to leave the top cupboards white😊
It was surprising easy - well, that is if they turn out in the end. Lol
Freezer meals are a gift you give your future self for sure!
I vote for green on upper cabinets. The log wall and light green cabinet will compliment each other. So enjoy your TH-cam channel. I am 87 and no longer able to garden outdoors so have 20 houseplants. Just order a grow light for plants and will snug up beside them because I miss the sunshine top.
Go green!!! :) And I still think the wood countertops would be truly beautiful. Like being in a forest in the spring🌲🌳❤
Load a picture of the room into the Sherwin-Williams paint site and do it virtually first.
1000% green!! Can't go wrong with nature's palette. If it works there, it works anywhere, lol. I'm still rooting for the wood countertops too! The copper handles are really nice as well. Ta for the soapmaking tutorial:)
I think you should keep the outer part of the cabinets white and then paint the trim piece the green color.
Because you have all white appliances I think that would pull everything together nicely.
The hardware you chose is lovely, very rustic that suits your kitchen well. 💞
I was thinking the inset part but the trim would look wonderful I bet!
I think the sage green will look awesome against the wood. Your kitchen is adorable.
Those cupboards would be stunning in sage green. Those copper pulls would set it off beautifully.
Good job on the soap. Meal looked delicious. Tree and decor looks lovely. I vote for the green on the cabinets - the white subway tile will soften it.
I’ll be honest I started making soap about 20-22 years ago and back then it was a complete no no to cross use your equipment and always had dedicated soap and lotion making equipment. Making you can clean it up I’d just be careful. I know things have changed over the years. Good luck with your new adventure. Once you’re hooked you’ll wan to do it all! And def green. I voted on Insta 😊
It's always interesting to see how different parts of the world makes the same dish.
Green would be lovely for the top cupboards. I loved your idea of putting some pattered paper inside, for a splash of colour. Maybe some thicker wrapping paper?
Regarding the colour for your upper kitchen cupboards, I really think that White is the best colour for them. The white ties in very well with your counter and back splash, as well as minimize visual 'clutter / distraction' for your video. Also, based on my own experience with a small cedar rail log cabin built in the late 1930's by my grandfather (still in the family), a natural wood ceiling absorbs light from the room, so again I would go with white. Final consideration for me, the lack of daylight hour in late fall and winter can be gloomy, but white brightens things, and spirits. Suggestion, paint the green onto a large piece of cardboard and tape it to the upper cupboard for 2-3 days to see how it looks in place and varying light though out the day, before going to all the work of painting. Could save you some work &/or solidify your decision. I always look forward to your podcasts. Thank you!
Great idea using cardboard
Green would be my choice. Green for the leaves that grew on the trees that your wood wall came from. Perfect match!
I am a long time spinner and weaver. You will love the creative outlet. You can build at a comfortable eighth a table with a strong wire top so you can gently rinse
Sage green would bring it all together.
Hi Chelsea, you came up on my feed about a month or so ago & I’m hooked. This is actually my first time commenting. I have liked your videos though. I vote for the sage for the upper cabinets. You have a great family 😊
Thank you so much and welcome to LMR.♥️
Seeing this pop up in my notifications makes me so happy!!!
I suggest you paint a bit of cardboard the green and place it up on the top cupboards.
Look at it for a couple days to see what you think.
I personally like the white as a great contrast to the base cupboards. 😊
Expensive Hobby but FUN!
Sage green cabinets will be nice, especially with the new hardware.
I think you should paint the white cabinets the beautiful green, it's so soft looking 😍 I think it would look great for everything to match and accent with curtains to pull it all together.
I vote to paint the upper cabinets sage green, I think the color will look great against the log walls. I used to raised goats and have used their milk for soap making. Yesterday I put away a large batch of goat milk soap for storage, we love homemade soap.
I like the top cabinets white. It kind of breaks up the total green which could get kind of boring to me. I can't wait to read you every week. You are amazing. You remind me of myself when I was young. I never sat down either.
You are so incredibly calming to watch!
I've been wanting to tell you to paint the cupboards green for a while, so I am happy you are doing this. I think it will be beautiful!!! Great choice. I've also been wanting to make soap, so can't wait to see how yours turns out.
Wow Chelsea.. that was some precision pouring into the moulds!! I would certainly make a mess there 😂❤😊
Sage on upper cabinets would be lovely. 😃
Green will look beautiful.
Green for sure! Love the color.❤
I love the green color and think it would look great with the wall.
I vote for the green cabinets. Love the soap!!
Team green! I believe it will look amazing with the subway tiles, the wood from the wall and the lace valances
I would paint your upper cabinets the Sage Green. Jill
The tree is very pretty. Years ago my daughter and I made soap. We sold it at craft fairs etc. our recipe was similar to yours. We used our tools exclusively for soap. My son made our molds out of some kind of coated wood. It was a large rectangles and was divided to the length of the soap. Then the next day we cut it. We cured it in plastic shoe boxes with holes drilled in them. We kept them uncovered for a month then covered them. I real miss having the soap. My favorite was honey lemon. I had really oily skin then and it helped so much. I vote for green also.
Definitely the green! I think with the white appliances and curtains it would be fine. It might be a little dark at night but you could always get some strip lights to run under the cabinets to brighten everything up!
I vote for green upper cupboards... seems like it would give more continuity. 😊
I like the upper cupboards white, they make the appliance kinda blend in.
The green on the upper would look Great , as the lower ones look wonderful !! Go for it
The soaps look lovely. I think green on top cupboards. The shade of green you've got is really nice x
Green for the upper cabinets.
Green on both upper cabinets
Definitely green, especially with the copper knobs.
I think they would all look nice the same color!!! But honestly it’s up to what you like!!! It’s all beautiful!!!
I love how the white looks on the uppers. It brightens up the kitchen. I do love the green but vote white. Great video .Chelsea, love the pulls. Im a Jamerrill fan too. 🇨🇦🌷
I love the green! Think it will look lovely on the upper cabinets!
GREEN GREEN GREEN!
I think painting the upper cupboards green also would look great.I like the new hardware for the doors & drawers that you chose. 🙂🇨🇦👍👍👍
Wow is there any thing u can’t do u are so versatile of u get your hands to do and do creative well done the tree is so beautiful
Cabinets green and I think it will look even better when you get the white subway tile up !
I like the white. I think because they’re next to the windows it brightens your kitchen.
Bees wax in a very small amount will help the soap to stay firmer as well
I think the cupboards definitely will look nice the sage green, esp your backsplash is white!
I think the green would be lovely instead of keeping them white. The previous colour you had was darker so the white upper cabinets where nice to keep some light. But the green is so light it would look nice. And you can always add some led light strips if needed. And picturing you going to do the backsplash there with white tiles I'm sure it will work out.
Re; Painting the cabinets.....at 12:02 in the video it is later in the day and the light has changed. I think painting the cabinets green will make it too dark in the kitchen. I think you need to leave the cabinets a light color to keep the room from being too dark. The florescent light gives a yellow cast also that should be taken into consideration before painting. Just an observation.
SAD or seasonal affective disorder occurs in climates where there is less sunlight at certain times of the year.
Symptoms include fatigue, depression, etc. Although there is medication (of course, usually antidepressants, yuck) the best treatment for the body is light therapy. A light that delivers 10,000 lux of white light is good to help treat SAD. 10,000 lux is the equivalent of ambient daylight. 32,000 lux is the equivalent of direct sunlight. Use about 20 to 30 minutes a day about 24 inches from the face but not looking directly into the light. My sister suffers form SAD and this is the solution she swears by. But please research thoroughly.
Please paint uppers green. Also, would you consider painting the wood shelf unit on the other side of the stove with the same green? I know storage space is important but that small shelf unit would look so pretty if it was used as a bookcase for your cookbooks - especially your vintage ones. Thanks for sharing!😍🇨🇦
I love your channel I love what you're doing you should take a piece of big cardboard and paint it green and then take it and tape it up on to that cabinet and then walk back and look that's what I did when I started painting different things
Green will definitely be your best option!!!
I think the top cupboards would look great in the green :)
I like the same color as your bottom cabinets. With new valances, it would look really pretty! ❤
Oh - those copper handles look terrific !! I love it !!
I’d go with the green on upper cabinets. It’s such a pretty color & gives a calming effect!
I think the sage green on the upper cabinets would be very pretty.
The sage green will look beautiful!
I vote paint the upper cabinets green also.
Go with the sage green on the top cabinets. It’s a calming color that brings the outside in and your kitchen will look more cohesive.
I would go with the sage green. It's just so pretty and calming.
I would leave the top cabinets white. Love the green on the bottom!
I would go with the sage green on upper cabinets. Handles look beautiful! Yum, love beef stroganoff.
I would put the sage green just on those center panels
Green! I think that would be beautiful!!
Green for all🎉
I think the green will make your kitchen look warmy lol😊 love your videos
Sage green…such a soothing shade
The green is so light I think it would look fine. You could paint a board green, put it next to the wall first, and look at it for a while.
Green! Still voting yes for the butcher block counter tops too!
Love your channel and my granddaughter Tinsley is doing good so thank you all for the prayers and thoughtful post ♥️your amazing Chelsea and family
I think green would be lovely! 😊❤
Sage green would look great on the upper cupboards 🇨🇦
Gosh I never really thought anything of the white top cupboards and then bottom green. I thought it looked lovely with both. However, I think the green would look lovely on the top as well. So love the soap adventure. And cocoa is really beneficial to our skin so great idea to add that. Oh they look so lovely :) How exciting!! And as always the tree is so beautiful. hugs
I love the sage green for the upper cabinets
You're making soap. It's so much fun but also a bit challenging. I've been making soaps, body creams, herbal salves and anything along that line for a few years now. I won't go back to store bought body products again.
