I am a retired Drama teacher who taught in high school in South Africa. I live and taught in schools in Durban. When I was studying Drama our lecturer taught us never to be phased by any persons accent, it is the rich tapestry of who you are as a person and reflects where you come from, so everyone who listens to you will know where you are from and there is no real right way to say anything unless you want to be phonetically correct. Hi Chelsea I live in Germany and think it's great that you make Spätzle. You can make the Spätzle mixture a little, not much, thinner. To make your work easier, you can place the Spätzle press on the edge of the pot and then press it. I grew up in Bavaria, Germany. We make German Spaetzle with water and not with milk and ate it with roast and gravy or made Cheese-Spaetzle. It is like a casserole with layers of Spaetzle and cheese and on top end with a layer of cheese, bake it in the oven for around 30 minutes. We serve it with potato salad. So yummy :)

I do watch other videos where they live in Canada and your pronunciation is how they say pasta. Definitely a regional difference but nothing to be concerned about. Thanks to this video, you have identified a “mystery” item in my mother’s collection of kitchenware. She passed away when I was 16. I’m 80, now. All these decades I’ve kept this odd thing that looked to me like a press for a giant heads of garlic (whole head…not clove 😂). Will wonders never cease. This was wonderful! 👌. So happens her father’s family were from Germany.😅.

Hey Chelsea, it is pronounced different, somethinglike Shpezzle(Sh as in shoe, pe as in pepper, zz as in pizza and le as in lemon) It comes from the southern region Swabia in Germany. It is delicious also as a sidedish for lentil stew and wurst
Oh, and the machine has some „teeth“ on the side opposite to the handles, so you can lean it on the pot, like you would put a wooden spoon on the diagonal of the pot. This way is essier to push. And I would make the dough a bit runnier.

Hi, I'm in NE Texas, born and raised for almost 65 years and I've been told I have a heavy southern accent. My brothers name is Dan and when you say it, I hear Dan. I also hear ranch clearly. Just your Canadian way of saying pasta (I say pausta) and you say house (I say howse) and about sounds like you're saying aboot, lol, there's some others but I can't think of them now. But I love listening to you! I have an old friend from Canada and I love how she pronounces words differently. My Mom was German. That kitchen item was called a potato ricer in our family. We made spaetzle as a looser dough. We put the dough on a dampened wooden cutting board and cut pieces into the boiling water. Think of misshapened marbles. We browned bread crumbs in butter and tossed with the spaetzle, which was our favorite way to eat it.
It’s wonderful that your moms gifting thing to y’all while she’s still here on earth. That way you and your children can ask questions and get the stories behind the heirlooms. It’s a wonderful gift in hearing the history from her.
Oh girl....that book of drawings...priceless. Take pictures of each page. Then you can have certain pictures made up on canvas print to decorate a little grand daughter's room. With the pictures in your camera make each of your children a complete little book on shutterfly. The furniture is very cozy looking. Makes you want to drop by and visit. I love the way we hear things differently. I grew up in New Hampshire, but live in Florida now. All of my kids are born and raised down here. My oldest hears it "Dahn" and "Raunch" but me and my middle hear it Dan and Ranch.

One of my most treasured possessions is the Bible my grandparents used daily. The margins and any extra pages are filled with dates,notes and comments about special scriptures. I love reading them and trying to imagine why certain passages were so special to them. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Don’t change how you say words. I absolutely love your living room, my taste exactly. I am like you and a little cautious at doing colour and patterns but you have nailed it. The room looks so cosy and yet so special. The cabinet rings so true to me, I have collected some special pieces, mainly china, for a cabinet I have. Unfortunately, I do not have any of my grandmother's things that I remember her loving as there was such a large family and they were claimed by others beforehand. There was a division in my family and those that my beautiful Mum had are not available to me, but the memories will be in my heart forever. My Mum passed in her sixties and I treasure anything that she loved and gave me. I have recently been giving some of my special things to my two precious daughters who love these things like I do. I have had and still have some health issues and I wanted my girls and my son to have these treasures that I have enjoyed just as you have some from your Mum. You have made my day with your collection and love for all your family treasured and spent time with. Who cares how you pronounce things, that is what makes us individuals. I live on the east coast of Australia in the lovely city of Newcastle, my hometown is beautiful and I love visiting and seeing other places but this is my home and the home of my children and family. I have lived in Virginia since birth and live near rural areas with country accents and my mom had a hint of northern accent her family originated from Ohio. So, when you say roof, instead of smooth sound on the vowels yours is like a hard sound. It cracks me up because I was watching another homestead style youtuber and when he installed his solar system, he said it how you do. I have never laughed so hard for over 30 minutes. My mom's mother said metal and bottle with a "d" instead of "t", I would always get the look from mom when I started to giggle. My husband and I have my mom and dad’s bibles that they used and his mom’s bible. There’s something so beautiful about a well used and loved bible with its frayed edges and personalized notes. ❤️
My mother-in-law was from Nuermberg, Germany, and she was the best cook. I especially loved her Roladin, which is thin slices of beef spread with mustard and slices of bacon, onion, and mushrooms, then rolled up and tied with strings, or you could use toothpicks, browned, and baked in a gravy. She served it with mashed potatoes, and it was so delicious. I went to a Germany in 1977 with her and the food was fantastic. Germany is a beautiful country. We were lucky to take a trip into the Alps also. Love your new living room, and the furniture is beautiful. I have an antique secretary that I have filled with family treasures over the years. Just love preserving our family heritage.

I love how much you adore your family heirlooms. I too am blessed with many treasures from my family. I am fortunate enough to have journals of my mother’s life. She started journals in grade school and continued until the Alzheimer’s entered her life. The very last gift she gave me was when she passed at the age of 90. As I opened the cedar chest the journal lying open on top was the day of my birth. I still get tears when I think of it 6 years later.

So I grew up in Germany, my mom was German and my eldest brother still lives there. The correct pronunciation is spa(long A)tzle( pronounced la). But you are so cool who cares how you pronounce it. I have never seen this product used as a spätzle maker, only as a ricer for potatoes. That doesn’t mean anything. If you Google Spätzle makers, they will show you what is usually used. Love you!
Hi, have fun with the Spaetzle. The Spaetzle with cheese and fried onions are a bit like a version of "Mac'n Cheese" (very popular as a dish in the German/Austrian/Swiss skiing areas). Try to incorporate into the dough mashed veggies like spinach, pumpkin, or carrots - or herbs like wild garlic. Further you can use the press not only for Spaetzle but for mashed potatoes or potatoes dumpling dough, but please press trough the peeled and cooked potatoes as long as they are warm. Kids will love it if you use the press for a spaghetti sundae: Press through vanilla ice cream, add strawberry sauce and finish of with white chocolate shavings. Enjoy!
Dear Great Aunt Dora emigrated here from Germany around 1890. She made spatzle and pronounced it Spet-zel-lee. Her method was to flour her hands, pick up some dough and rub her hands together dropping bits of the dough in whatever hot broth she was using. I would never have selected white/beige colors for a living room when I had children HOWEVER, I surely missed out on the beauty that you have achieved in your living room. It is so warm and cozy, yet seems even larger - really sunny but still comfortable. Congrats on terrific designing and 'Dawn' agreeing to brown and then you knowing how he felt, agreeing to this final, special color choice. It looks like a magazine picture. I'm sure your kitchen with it's white-ness looks especially nice with it. If you redo your lamp shades, would love for you to film it! We have a pool that is enclosed and during the summer, collect many deceased butterflies that come in and then can't find out how to escape. I don't know why, but I've saved many of them to set into indoor plants and think the wings would look really pretty on a lamp shade. Not sure how to get them to not smear or shed the cells that make up the wing but it might be worth a try. I wonder if spaetzel (SP) would work using a plastic sieve to press the dough through. Might be fun to experiment and see. I think the Bible is a most wonderful treasure with it's notes but that art journal with your grandmother's drawn pictures done by her mother is priceless! What a beautiful treasure AND the history with each picture!
I do believe that some people in the south of Germany use a Spätzle-maker, traditionally the dough is put on a wooden cutting board and then with a scraper scraped into the hot water. We in East Germany use the same tool as a potato press (cooked potatoes) most of the time for potatoe dumplings (Knödel) depending on the recipe either for savory dishes or for sweet dishes where you can fill them with fresh apricots or plums often served with a warm vanilla sauce.

Hi, I'm in NE Texas, born and raised for almost 65 years and I've been told I have a heavy southern accent. My brothers name is Dan and when you say it, I hear Dan. I also hear ranch clearly. Just your Canadian way of saying pasta (I say pausta) and you say house (I say howse) and about sounds like you're saying aboot, lol, there's some others but I can't think of them now. But I love listening to you! I have an old friend from Canada and I love how she pronounces words differently. My Mom was German. That kitchen item was called a potato ricer in our family. We made spaetzle as a looser dough. We put the dough on a dampened wooden cutting board and cut pieces into the boiling water. Think of misshapened marbles. We browned bread crumbs in butter and tossed with the spaetzle, which was our favorite way to eat it.
It’s wonderful that your moms gifting thing to y’all while she’s still here on earth. That way you and your children can ask questions and get the stories behind the heirlooms. It’s a wonderful gift in hearing the history from her.

I love the way we hear things differently. I grew up in New Hampshire, but live in Florida now. All of my kids are born and raised down here. My oldest hears it "Dahn" and "Raunch" but me and my middle hear it Dan and Ranch.

One of my most treasured possessions is the Bible my grandparents used daily. The margins and any extra pages are filled with dates,notes and comments about special scriptures. I love reading them and trying to imagine why certain passages were so special to them. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Don’t change how you say words. I absolutely love your living room, my taste exactly. I am like you and a little cautious at doing colour and patterns but you have nailed it. The room looks so cosy and yet so special. The cabinet rings so true to me, I have collected some special pieces, mainly china, for a cabinet I have. Unfortunately, I do not have any of my grandmother's things that I remember her loving as there was such a large family and they were claimed by others beforehand. There was a division in my family and those that my beautiful Mum had are not available to me, but the memories will be in my heart forever. My Mum passed in her sixties and I treasure anything that she loved and gave me. I have recently been giving some of my special things to my two precious daughters who love these things like I do. I have had and still have some health issues and I wanted my girls and my son to have these treasures that I have enjoyed just as you have some from your Mum. You have made my day with your collection and love for all your family treasured and spent time with. Who cares how you pronounce things, that is what makes us individuals. I live on the east coast of Australia in the lovely city of Newcastle, my hometown is beautiful and I love visiting and seeing other places but this is my home and the home of my children and family. I have lived in Virginia since birth and live near rural areas with country accents and my mom had a hint of northern accent her family originated from Ohio. So, when you say roof, instead of smooth sound on the vowels yours is like a hard sound. It cracks me up because I was watching another homestead style youtuber and when he installed his solar system, he said it how you do. I have never laughed so hard for over 30 minutes. My mom's mother said metal and bottle with a "d" instead of "t", I would always get the look from mom when I started to giggle. As always thank you for sharing your world so I can escape mine for a few. Hope you and your family are healthy and happy.

My mother-in-law was from Nuermberg, Germany, and she was the best cook. I especially loved her Roladin, which is thin slices of beef spread with mustard and slices of bacon, onion, and mushrooms, then rolled up and tied with strings, or you could use toothpicks, browned, and baked in a gravy. She served it with mashed potatoes, and it was so delicious. I went to a Germany in 1977 with her and the food was fantastic. Germany is a beautiful country. We were lucky to take a trip into the Alps also. Love your new living room, and the furniture is beautiful. I have an antique secretary that I have filled with family treasures over the years. Just love preserving our family heritage.

The new living room furniture is beautiful, bright and airy. What a treasure to have family heirlooms. I too have some precious pieces from both my grandmothers, I am 74, so you know they are old.
I love how much you adore your family heirlooms. I too am blessed with many treasures from my family. I am fortunate enough to have journals of my mother’s life. She started journals in grade school and continued until the Alzheimer’s entered her life. The very last gift she gave me was when she passed at the age of 90. As I opened the cedar chest the journal lying open on top was the day of my birth. I still get tears when I think of it 6 years later.
I really like the furniture and the colours, my style of things. The book of your grandma’s dancing outfits is just too precious. Glad you can place it in a special cabinet. Just wonderful.

I am extremely deaf and use very loud Bluetooth headbands to watch utube. Even then, God help me if there’s no captioning! That being said, your speaking/enunciation is so precise, I don’t have to struggle to understand you. It makes it very relaxing to listen. I sang with Sweet Adeline’s womens barbershop for over a decade, and they stress vowels and pronunciation. That’s what I get from you naturally 😊
And your spatzle reminds me of what we called egg rivels growing up. We always had them in our potato soup…always made with water, not milk.

So I grew up in Germany, my mom was German and my eldest brother still lives there. The correct pronunciation is spa(long A)tzle( pronounced la). But you are so cool who cares how you pronounce it. I have never seen this product used as a spätzle maker, only as a ricer for potatoes. That doesn’t mean anything. If you Google Spätzle makers, they will show you what is usually used. Love you!
Hi, have fun with the Spaetzle. The Spaetzle with cheese and fried onions are a bit like a version of "Mac'n Cheese" (very popular as a dish in the German/Austrian/Swiss skiing areas). Try to incorporate into the dough mashed veggies like spinach, pumpkin, or carrots - or herbs like wild garlic. Further you can use the press not only for Spaetzle but for mashed potatoes or potatoes dumpling dough, but please press trough the peeled and cooked potatoes as long as they are warm. Kids will love it if you use the press for a spaghetti sundae: Press through vanilla ice cream, add strawberry sauce and finish of with white chocolate shavings. Enjoy!

Dear Great Aunt Dora emigrated here from Germany around 1890. She made spatzle and pronounced it Spet-zel-lee. Her method was to flour her hands, pick up some dough and rub her hands together dropping bits of the dough in whatever hot broth she was using. Everyone adored her and I am so fortunate to have known her. ❤

I would never have selected white/beige colors for a living room when I had children HOWEVER, I surely missed out on the beauty that you have achieved in your living room. It is so warm and cozy, yet seems even larger - really sunny but still comfortable. Congrats on terrific designing and 'Dawn' agreeing to brown and then you knowing how he felt, agreeing to this final, special color choice. It looks like a magazine picture. I'm sure your kitchen with it's white-ness looks especially nice with it.
If you redo your lamp shades, would love for you to film it! We have a pool that is enclosed and during the summer, collect many deceased butterflies that come in and then can't find out how to escape. I don't know why, but I've saved many of them to set into indoor plants and think the wings would look really pretty on a lamp shade. Not sure how to get them to not smear or shed the cells that make up the wing but it might be worth a try. I wonder if spaetzel (SP) would work using a plastic sieve to press the dough through. Might be fun to experiment and see. I think the Bible is a most wonderful treasure with it's notes but that art journal with your grandmother's drawn pictures done by her mother is priceless! What a beautiful treasure AND the history with each picture!

I do believe that some people in the south of Germany use a Spätzle-maker, traditionally the dough is put on a wooden cutting board and then with a scraper scraped into the hot water. We in East Germany use the same tool as a potato press (cooked potatoes) most of the time for potatoe dumplings (Knödel) depending on the recipe either for savory dishes or for sweet dishes where you can fill them with fresh apricots or plums often served with a warm vanilla sauce.
