  • A video tribute that I produced following the death of Randy Castillo
in 2002. Video clips were taken from Motley Crue's Lewd, Crued and
Tattooed DVD, Ozzy Osbourne's Live & Loud DVD, Motley's performance on
Hard Rock Live and an unknown Ozzy concert dating back to the Ultimate
    Sin era.

I had a lot of inspiring drummers that I loved growing up. Randy was the only one I ever had a desire to meet. It is too bad that I never did. I saw him 3 different times in concert though. I bet he was a really cool guy to meet. I wish I had.

Never got to meet him myself, Christopher. I had him autograph my Motley Dr. Feelgood T-shirt in '99 but I had to send my older cousin in to get it since I wasn't old enough to get into the bar at the time. By all accounts, he was a super cool guy and very approachable. I was a big fan of Motley's New Tattoo album and as a fellow Albuquerque musician, it was way cool to see someone like Randy break into the big leagues with Ozzy and Motley. I was attending the University of New Mexico at the time of his death and did this tribute video as a project for one of my classes. Very cool to see it getting more exposure through TH-cam.

It was pretty cool to see, John. At the time, people were so caught up in Tommy Lee's absence that people didn't really stop to realize that they were witnessing something epic in it's own right. I only got to see Randy once with Motley and it was in his hometown of Albuquerque so he got a large outpouring of love and approval. It's unfortunate that his tenure in the band is often completely forgotten about.

Sounds about right. I couldn't find any info for that performance with Ozzy back when I made this video. It was copied from an old VHS tape that I borrowed from a friend that was simply labeled "Ultimate Sin Live."
