I think this is actually a good competitor to cars like VW Tiguan. It's not that much more expensive, but comes with Mercedes tech and style. Besides, I think this is a really clever and good looking car.
There needs to be a 2 thumbs up button. Always a honest entertaining review. I think Merc is going to sell a boatload of these things. 3 row box with tons of room. Not my thing but I can see how it checks a lot of boxes. The interior design of the new Mercs with that wide screen is really good looking. We only get the 221 hp 2L and the AMG version here in Canada. Both come with AWD. I would never buy a Merc with such a tiny engine. It just doesn't make sense to me. Thanks for the entertainment Marek. I always enjoy watching you get into the 3rd row seats of these cars!
Thousands of years ago, our ancestors learned the hard way that having a small tribe of friends was the difference between life and death. When the neighboring tribe attacked, you’d better hope you’d have people around that you could trust. The people / kids you put in the third row of this GLB will hate you forever. Excellent script!
@@trk958 I don't get it what the point of your comment is. Having the option to have a third row of seats is always a good thing, it also comes with a normal 5 seater configuration, so it's not like one doesn't have a choice. Plus you can always get a bigger car if you wanted more space for a third row of seats, like a Discovery or an even bigger car
TBH I love it. Had no idea which engine the one I checked out had, I drive like a grandma so it would not make any difference BUT finally a car that looks normal inside and out and the price is not astronomical.
I think an half million km w123 TE still has better doors, is a true full metal Merc , weighs less and does cost perhaps in K as much, but on a currency way weaker than EUR. 60k EUR for that is too much. Brave u r Marek, thanks and go on being balanced and transparent.
I think I liked the idea of the GLB when I saw the press release images, saw one in a showroom and it’s very awkward looking. Great review Marek as always. Ps people are overrated, to many variables.

1.3 163 HP engine as in Nissan Qashqai (or Mercedes Benz class A) 💪😉
Thanks for the nice review! One key thing to mention for this car is that there is an enormous road noise during autobahn or even city drives which is not acceptable from a premium brand
This is the third reviewer I have watched who complained about the driver's door closing issues. People like to throw mud at Tesla for quality control issues but we can see that even Mercedes with almost a century of car making experience can have problems .
If I needed a 7-seater definitely the Sorento. I like the GLB, but it needs a bigger engine, and it's basically a 5-seater with a sensible boot, but not a 7-seater.
Marek makes a great video test of cars🚘👍. I want to ask you why it has a much better sound in the series - Porsche GT2 RS 700hp, than Porsche Turbo S - 650hp and both cars have turbos.
Mercedes is same as Peugeot in the middle of renesanse. Somehow I would probably rather buy 5008 but both of them are really much more beautiful than other cars in the segment.
It looks nice but it's a €60k car so it should. I don't mind the small engine as long as the payback is good economy. For the price I'd want better, everything really. Quality is still questionable too. Better can be had from other makers, on all counts, price, economy and quality. The "three pronged badge" is no longer a symbol of quality. Shame really. Cheers Marek keep up the good work, Skol!
It is built only in Mexico and China. I guess Europe gets the Mexico built one's and cars that are built there (from my experince) are not of the same quality as cars built in Germany or the EU in general.
I think the GLA looks too much like a bubble. I prefer the GLB. Thing is, I hated the 7DCT in the regular A class. It revved the engine too high in the first 2 gears and then it was hesitant to downshift. I also had a few cases of it not disengaging the clutch soon enough and the idle control kicked me in the butt when I was on the brakes. I hope they improved it with software, I haven't driven one in half a year.
Under hard acceleration (i.e. I was pulling out on a busy junction, and needed to get a move on) there's still some hesitation. I think it could have to do with emissions.
@@MarekDrives I almost forgot about that. You press the throttle, nothing happens, you press it further, clutch engages and you fly off. Not very graceful. Emissions or not, a new car shouldn't be worse to drive than a 20 year old car.
@@MarekDrives We may not have control over it. But we can call it out as bad engineering, considering some manufacturers can meet emissions regulations without making the car annoying to live with.
I have Orderd GLB 200d. Still about 6 mounths left when it arrived. Dont now why it take so long time to build the GLB. Marek when you order the GLB, how long time to it take from order and to recive the car ?
HI...am considering to buy GLB... my use case is 10000 kms a year, 6 people on board .... which engine would u recommend? or otherwise which engine is best suited to GLB ? is diesel better than petrol ?
too many classes (GLC, GLB, GLK,.....) I'm literally confused with Merc. 200 is no more 2.0 just like BMW(328 for example is 2.0 turbo) so why not 320? please Mared review more interesting cars
328 doesn't exist anymore (at least not in Europe). It's been replaced by the 330, which is also a 2.0. Right now 318 (former 316) is a 1.5 3-cylinder. 320 is (I think) the base 2-litre, and then you have 330 and M340 (the latter is a 6-cylinder), and then M3. Not very complicated. In Audi it's FUBAR, because over there you just get a number between 30 and 70, which signifies a power output range. And letters to tell you if it's a petrol, diesel, hybrid or EV.
I like the GLB but only in the regular non-AMG line guise, I think the massive fake vents, body kit and (at least the standard) alloys look really out of place on the boxy GLB which I feel is more of a succesful successor to the GLK style wise (I've heard multiple people in my personal life lamenting on how the GLK turned too rounded when it became the GLC). I also like this Mercedes small car interior more than the one in the GLC, but that also means the reduced quality compared to the GLCs and such that are made here in Finland.
I really don't see people buy an SUV without 4wd even if they won't use it I mean then just get an estate car and SUV or crossover with out a 4wd system it's like BLT sandwich with out the bacon
I can do without LT, but not without bacon :) You're right about SUV and AWD. It's a heavy car, and it just needs little bit of push and better stability in the winter.
Its not ugly it looks rlly good imo, it has enough power its not slow, its fuel economy ai t that bad, and its rlly not expensive compared to its rivals (this is coming from a huge bmw fan btw)
What a turd of a car. People will still buy it for the badge, but my god what a turd. Slow, inefficient, expensive, not that well built. You could get a Tesla Model Y long range for 60k Euro as well. That's fast and efficient and not that well built ;-)
It is as ugly as sin. End of story. May suit a blind driver. Surely the only people who will buy this thing will be badge snobs. It would look better covered by 15 feet of pure white snow.

Great review Marek. Quality issues unforgivable from Mercedes. I'd buy a skoda in a heart beat over a Mercedes.
I’m in the USA, I would go for Lexus
I really doubt skoda compares to a mercedes.
I have a mercedes twice the price of my skoda. And i dont think the akida is half as good as my mercedes

SEAT TARRACO. The absolute 7-seater SUV!

I didn't notice much road noise, and I've driven this quite a lot. Maybe it depends on the tires and/or road surface.

Looking forward to EQB !
Great review and wow what a small engine for a big car, surprising. I've not seen a Mercedes that's economical unless you get an old and boring one.
Great review, my new favourite car reviewer 👍 Would you choose this or the Kia Sorento Hybrid?

Marek, is Apple Car Play on the new Sorento wired or wireless?
60k for a 1.3liter is not a great choice. 250 or 220d are the best options. But is very expensive

I'm afraid that's not something we have influence over. EVs seem to be the answer. These can rip asphalt, when you need to get quickly off the line.
