To make the ‘mess up’ look more intentional you can make the space larger and add a step there so it’s easier to get in and out of the bed. Also could be a good place to sit whilst dressing or putting on shoes!
This is the right solution. Even with the styling, it still stuck out to me. It’s such a shame. But adding in steps would be an amazing solve. And if the cats don’t use the steps, the bottom step could be a storage spot for your slippers
Rochelle is so encouraging, I love how when Rachael was getting upset about the measurement’s being “off”, she basically talked her into feeling like it was an intentional aesthetic choice. It looks beautiful! And your cats are precious. ❤️
Indeed, I do like turning mistakes into aesthetic choices. Although for anyone wondering, I think the gap was the result of not accounting for the extra length after ripping down the widest boards.
It might not be in the original design, but I would round the outside corners a little, because I for sure know I would hit my leg on those every time I needed to walk around the bed lol.
I’m really enjoying the series where you’re fixing up your apartment. I wanted to mention that you need to tell everyone how much we are enjoying watching you work outside in that new courtyard. It’s so smart to do cutting outside. There is cleanup, but at least there’s not dust all over everything in the studio.
The cats “helping” is so relatable. One of our kitties will chew anything plastic…how many times have I found an edge of a bag chewed!? At least a million😜. Excited to see the final result!
10 out of 10 for inspiration, though I'd execute it a little differently. I really like the look but think being all around three sides impairs the function of the bed a bit (harder to get in and out, harder to make the bed). The great thing is that the way you showed step by step instructions would make it easy to modify. I can imagine the shelf unit in a wide open loft, just on the most exposed corner of the bed rather than all around, and letting the unit be taller and the bed be lower, if that makes sense.
I am so absolutely happy that Rachel got herself a new rental unit - this means we'll get a whoooole series of make overs from her on the channel!!!!! Yay!!! 🎉
I have two small children and I'm not loving my platform bed too much at the moment. So I guess there are phases in life where you would go wrong...? But I really enjoyed it for many years, will do so in the future and it's okay right now.
Looks really useful! I imagine it's sturdy enough on the top to feel like a bench? I also like that if you're hanging out in bed you can just place your water/journal/laptop right next to you on the ledge. The color ended up amazing and I didn't even notice the gap at the end. I think for books/photoboxes this is particularly useful and stunning but I would personally avoid putting lamps, trinkets, and other knockable things which might fall when the bed experiences the ~rumbles~ lol 🤪
Ughhhh I LOVE your vulnerability and honesty w the mistake you made.. like soooo actually what would actually happen to someone trying this.. I love the realness n that ur not afraid to admit defeat. ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
I love when DIY creators leave in their mistakes! It's useful to see where a project might go wrong before trying it for yourself and to think about those kinds of problems and how to avoid them in your own attempt.
Love love love this diy!!! I've wanted these shelves for a good while now and Rachel made them seem so approachable! I know it would require more redesign, but you could always frame the slats and then put the bed on heavy duty lift/hinges so you could more easily access the hidden storage as necessary. So excited for your apartment makeovers!!!
Excited to see the makeovers in the new place. We have a lot of wood the color of Rachel’s ceiling and I’m looking forward to some inspiration on how to lean into the color and style.
earlier this year i bought a platform storage bed with shelves underneath as a person who LOVES Stuff but has a small space and i just have to say.... this one is inspired and beautiful and makes me wish i'd thought to try to diy one myself. also ALWAYS love a little cameo from the ever reliable roch. and your kitty content is wonderful and makes me smile every single time they're on screen.... love them and love this!!
This build turned out great! My only personal recommendation from having the lowest malm bed before would be to curve the corners, add bumpers, or something soft that flows over. Cause hitting that randomly hurts!
The only negative during this video is that I didn't have any snacks. I will definitely be more prepared in the next video! Well done! Also, your cats are gorgeous!
The shelves turned out so good, these have been over my pinterest for ages too. But I have to admit that I was a bit confused when you first talked about a matress needing to breathe (it definitely does) only to follow that up with building shelves that totally enclose bed and not allow any air flow and also mentioning that you want to store more stuff under the bed.
I love it!! Great job Rachel! I’m love the storage it brings to your room and how it lifts your bed up too! I bet the cats will have fun making one of those cubbies a snoozing spot
I loved this episode! Rachel was stepping up with those skills! Also I think the gap kinda elevates the look, but I can't help myself from wondering how comfortable or not it is to get into bed, it seems difficult. Can't wait for the next episode!
love love love!! really excited for rachael to have her own big scale makeover series!! since all the girls work collaboratively to create spaces together for others - it was so cool seeing kelsey and becky’s personal taste in their own homes now we get to see rachael take on the same challenge!!
Great job, Rachel. Shout out to Rochelle for her supporting role in the "Great Bed Makeover". But my favorite part of this video was the beanie toes. 😻🐾🌺😀
Yes, I love Rachel's series! Also, @thesorrygirls Please add official closed captioning rather than the auto-generated. Makes a heck of a difference and makes your channel so much more accessible! Thank you!
I love how it turned out but i must say it looks like way too big of a project for me even if i wanted to😂❤ I really love how you shoot your videos Rachel! The artistic shots of the cats and the rain, etc. and moments of reality and honesty really add to the video and make it feel more entertaining and inspiring than regular diy vids!!! 🥹can’t wait to see the bedroom makeover!!
I love it! If I were to do something like this I might actually leave a gap intentionally to make climbing in easier. Disagree with all the comments saying you should have just done one side though, I love how this makes it feel like a cozy little island/almost conversation pit vibe
I like that your design gives the bed storage to put your phone on top or something if you don’t have nightstands yet That’s a huge build. Good job! I tried to make my dog a bed and ran into it constantly not matching up with measurments. Keep up the great work!
Loving this series already! Whatever direction you take videos, I will always be so impressed with the effort and creativity that you all put into your projects. Thank you for sharing your journeys with us!
Rachel! I am definitely inspired. I bought the same IKEA years ago when it was 1/2 the cost. I had big plans to hack it somehow, and you gave me the confidence. Thank you!!!!
Rachel's hair looked so pretty when she was assembling/pocket holing that! Also that stain picks up a really lovely golden color from the floor, nice choice.
I love the bed as is! If you ever feel like the middle part is missing, you can always put in a little insert from the same wood and stain a nobody will ever know.
Oh wow this IKEA bed hack looks so much cooler than it did originally and I am curious how you have access to underneath it because you screwed that wood on those sides and you mentioned that you want to store things under the bed. Those shelves you built are so pretty and also making it higher is okay and so great that Rochelle helped you. I love seeing how happy your kitties are on the bed and around. You new rental apartment is so great looking. Thanks for sharing this great video. 🥰😂😺😻💜💜💜💝💕
"Oh boy I hope this whole thing doesn't end up super crooked!!" -me literally anything I make something. Awesome video Rachael!! I'm making shelves just like this so this was super helpful!
Okay 1. If you can do a Home Depot run in a Volkswagen beetle I can do anything in my Honda civic. (side note I already do but now I will never second guess myself again. Lol) And 2. I just love seeing your kitties. They’re so cuuuute and such good helpers! 😆
It is truly beautiful. But as a clumsy person I would break my leg(s) trying to get in & out of bed......not to mention breaking all those beautiful glass objects on the shelves. As beautiful as it is & will probably be awesome for you, for me it's a waking nightmare. Great job on the build.
Cool build! Can’t wait to see more from Rach’s Rental! Btw I love listening to your voice. It’s very soothing and your vibe is very cool and casual. 👍😊 Have a great week!
Well done Rach! How stunning and unique. Please do let us know if you end up wanting to curve the corners though... I could see those sharp corners being a shin smasher.
My maximalist heart does NOT need to see this, imagine all the things I could stick in the shelves in a once unused space...can't wait for the full bedroom makeover!
This is such a cool project! I love how you turned a simple IKEA bed into a fab platform bed 🔧✨. Can't wait to see what other creative ideas you bring to the loft! By the way, the cats are the real stars in this series, lol! 🐾
To make the ‘mess up’ look more intentional you can make the space larger and add a step there so it’s easier to get in and out of the bed. Also could be a good place to sit whilst dressing or putting on shoes!
That is such a good idea! My other thought would be to just cut and stain small pieces to fill the gaps. I love the idea of a step though!
this!
Genius
Great idea for steps! The kitties will use them!
This is the right solution. Even with the styling, it still stuck out to me. It’s such a shame. But adding in steps would be an amazing solve. And if the cats don’t use the steps, the bottom step could be a storage spot for your slippers

Right?! So supportive and constructive!
Roshy is our supportive queen 💖
❤ Rochelle so much! More Roshy content!!!!
👍👍

I came to say this. I would hurt myself so bad.
Had the same thought! I have a square acrylic coffee table with sharp corners - I can't even count the number of bruises I had on my shins.
I’m really enjoying the series where you’re fixing up your apartment. I wanted to mention that you need to tell everyone how much we are enjoying watching you work outside in that new courtyard. I only click on the sorry girls when it’s Rachel or Kelsey. Id totally watch Rachel’s page if it was just her
@@LivingUpright
Why would you feel the need to say this and slight Becky and Rochelle?
Very rude and immature.

love to watch Sorry Girl vids. Refreshing to see smart, capable and creative women demonstrate what they can do and to work together to do it.
Yes! 💯🤌🏻
Obsessed with this bed! I love Rachel's style and can't wait to see the rest of her bedroom makeover! Definitely adding this project to my DIY list!
love to hear it 💖
This is so stunning. I feel like you can never go wrong with a platform bed
we love a platform bed!! 😍

Love all the "cat cameo's" they were 100% making sure you got their new platform bed right!
Fifty percent more toe beans, please. This is a GREAT start. 🐾
Rachel..gotta say. I love ur style of filming in this video. Especially the music and angles when u went to ikea to eat and shop. It was nicely done
Ughhhh I LOVE your vulnerability and honesty w the mistake you made.. like soooo actually what would actually happen to someone trying this.. I love the realness n that ur not afraid to admit defeat. ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊

The bed look great, great job. We all know Rochelle is crazy talented, but she genuinely seem like she has a heart of gold. Xx
😮🧐😮 Wow, that is stunning. Butter and Noodle are too cute and they know it and they're doing it on purpose. Love everything about this video. ❤
Love love love this diy!!! I've wanted these shelves for a good while now and Rachel made them seem so approachable! Thank you for all the sweet fluffy-cat-scenes, very much appreciate the effort 😊 And yes, the bed with the shelves is also very cool🎉
Excited to see the makeovers in the new place. We have a lot of wood the color of Rachel’s ceiling and I’m looking forward to some inspiration on how to lean into the color and style.

thank you for the love 🥰 so excited for you to see whats coming up in this series!
This build turned out great! My only personal recommendation from having the lowest malm bed before would be to curve the corners, add bumpers, or something soft that flows over. Cause hitting that randomly hurts!
True, I keep wincing and thinking about the sharp corners
I would absolutely hurt myself 😂
Love it. Rachel, you look happy and healthy and excited for this new adventure. So glad for you and your Butter Noodle cats!
The only negative during this video is that I didn't have any snacks. I will definitely be more prepared in the next video! Well done! Also, your cats are gorgeous!
we love snacks !! 😍
😂😂😂
that's a whole new meaning to making your bed! it looks incredible

Being real with the sweat behind the mask. Loved it! You show all parts of the process including the sweat!
I love love love this neat idea. Rachelle and Rochelle make a nice team. The kitties are so sweet. Enjoy your new apartment!
I love it!! Great job Rachel! I’m love the storage it brings to your room and how it lifts your bed up too! I bet the cats will have fun making one of those cubbies a snoozing spot

I'm not even halfway through but my brain is already breaking with all the measuring and mental gymnastics you're having to do. I'M SO IMPRESSED
Love the shots of kitty “helping”.
Great job, Rachel. Shout out to Rochelle for her supporting role in the "Great Bed Makeover". But my favorite part of this video was the beanie toes. 😻🐾🌺😀
I'll definitely be trying this for my own bed frame because I have the same ikea bed!
yes!! love that ❤
This is a legit puzzle... Impressive!! 💖
The bed turned out so nice! I replayed the reveal because my eyes couldn’t get enough of it!
I also have these type of shelves pinned on my pinterest and seeing them come together like this was so satisfying, incredible job!!
Yay 🙌! Well done hunni !!! Also I feel we all need a little R & R ( Rachel & Rochelle ). Loving the kitties they are so photogenic
Love the energy! You definitely rock for going with it after realizing your mistake! Love that you owned it!
Great vid Rachael. IKEA is the Queen store for DIY Hacks. Thanks.🧡🧡🧡
Yes, I love Rachel's series!
Also, @thesorrygirls Please add official closed captioning rather than the auto-generated. Makes a heck of a difference and makes your channel so much more accessible! Thank you!
So good!!! Love seeing the process- great job Rachael!

Kelsey needs to make a miniature suspension bridge in that little gap.
Also, I want Rochy around whenever I make a mistake.
Rachel, I just saw the adds for you. Can’t wait to see your apartment done!!!
The kitties are true stars. Turned out beautiful. Nice work!
I'm cheering you on, Rachel! Getting a new place is so exciting! Yours is beautiful! Those windows! Those cats! And I love your bed! ❤❤❤
I love this series of Rachael! Can't wait veait for more!!
Rachel! I am definitely inspired. I bought the same IKEA years ago when it was 1/2 the cost. I had big plans to hack it somehow, and you gave me the confidence. Thank you!!!!
I am here for the cat assistant ❤
Rachael has such cool style!! I'm so excited to see the rest of her apartment makeover :) plus her outfits are always amazinggg
I haven’t see the video yet but I already know I’m gonna love it so I already gave it a tumbs up 😅 Anyone else?
Rachel's hair looked so pretty when she was assembling/pocket holing that! Also that stain picks up a really lovely golden color from the floor, nice choice.
You are AWESOME! I’m SO GLAD you joined the Sorry Girls because you’re so fun to watch and such a sweet person ♥️
I love this! It would be great as a wrap-around shelf for a sofa, too!! 😮 Excuse me while I start plotting my living room redesign…
I love the bed as is! If you ever feel like the middle part is missing, you can always put in a little insert from the same wood and stain a nobody will ever know.
You are truly amazing. I love, love, love your vision!

You new rental apartment is so great looking. Thanks for sharing this great video. 🥰😂😺😻💜💜💜💝💕
Loving this series!!! Can’t wait to watch more!
Rach, you could use the unexpected space between the pieces as a way for the cat's to get under the bed. You could cut out a bigger opening for them.
Thats a great idea
Omg noooo it would be so hard to clean! You wouldn't want your cats getting under there and hacking up a hairball or something
Shots every time Rachel says "actually"!
the music choices in this episode are sooo good
The platform bed hack looks amazing! I love your cats, they are beautiful!!🥰
Great job! I think it looks amazing and that gap actually really does look intentional :) I can't wait to see the full makeover!
I love the new series, Rachel is so sweet ❤
I love everything about this video. You’re so engaging to watch and the little fluffy cat tail was cinematic
"Oh boy I hope this whole thing doesn't end up super crooked!!" -me literally anything I make something. Awesome video Rachael!! I'm making shelves just like this so this was super helpful!
Wow i love that bed! Hope you dont feel you failed anymore sweety because it look intentional plus it just is stunning!!
I absolutely love this! I’ve been wanting to do something similar but as just a wall shelf, kinda like the big one in your workshop. Great job!! ❤️
ouu love that!! thanks for tuning in 💖
Love this series!! Love Gary!! So epic please do more about anything and everything!!
I love this video. Also, the gap in the shelves might come in handy if the wood decides to warp with the seasons. Great job!
Okay 1. If you can do a Home Depot run in a Volkswagen beetle I can do anything in my Honda civic. (side note I already do but now I will never second guess myself again. Lol)
And 2. I just love seeing your kitties. They’re so cuuuute and such good helpers! 😆
14:01 oooh it’s so purty ❤
All these kittens footage are giving life! 😍
Butter is the star of this series! 😍
It is truly beautiful. But as a clumsy person I would break my leg(s) trying to get in & out of bed......not to mention breaking all those beautiful glass objects on the shelves. As beautiful as it is & will probably be awesome for you, for me it's a waking nightmare. Great job on the build.
Truly here for all the woodworking videos. A beautifully welcomed addition to the sorry girls content and creativity =]
Rachel, Im so happy for you and your new space.👏🏽👏🏽💐❣️
Cool build! Can’t wait to see more from Rach’s Rental! Btw I love listening to your voice. It’s very soothing and your vibe is very cool and casual. 👍😊 Have a great week!
I was thinking the same thing 😅 Rach, look into narrating audio books or something! You’ve got an ASMR-quality to your voice!
@@aimsly86 on it! 🫡
Okay but the way I needed this exact video!
the way I needed this exact comment 🥹💖
Ohhh! This shelf has been on my DIY to do list! I was hoping pine would work and … it looks incredible!!!
This is pretty amazing and really inspiring! I’m so excited to see the whole room come together.
Well done Rach! How stunning and unique. Please do let us know if you end up wanting to curve the corners though... I could see those sharp corners being a shin smasher.
It looks amazing! Well done Rachel!
I can’t wait for the full makeover! What a statement!
cant wait to show you 🥰
I’m soooo excited to see what you’re going to do with the rental😍. It’s already an amazing place to live 😍
Love this new series and so excited to see the bedroom makeover next week. Also, THE CATS!! They are bringing the cozy vibe!
Such a fun series with so much to look forward to!
My maximalist heart does NOT need to see this, imagine all the things I could stick in the shelves in a once unused space...can't wait for the full bedroom makeover!
SO COZY!!! I LOVE IT!! Excited for the bedroom makeover:)
It came out fantastic.
So cuuuuute!! Looks so cozy, i love platform beds! Great job!
Rachel, your skills are skilling! Great work, beautiful outcome❤❤❤
The bed looks amaaaazing!!! 🔥🔥🔥🫶🫶🫶
yay!! Cats in the sorry girl family! Love Butter and Noodle! Great DIY Rachael!
This is such a cool project! I love how you turned a simple IKEA bed into a fab platform bed 🔧✨. Can't wait to see what other creative ideas you bring to the loft! By the way, the cats are the real stars in this series, lol! 🐾
