- This is my TK124 and I've done little too it. Even the original belts are passable, but will be fitting new ones soon. I just added some o rings to the perished rubber on the motor shaft and fast wind was good again. It must be one of the last valve reel to reel's made.

Just love reel to reel ,especially tk grundigs.had many in the past.

Nice video, very thorough. I find that an ammonia soak and rub will clean and re-grip rubber idlers if they aren't too far gone because the ammonia takes off the "slick" that forms on the drive surface. I rinse the ammonia thoroughly with water because I find it can leave a soapy film that eventually defeats the purpose!

Dose anybody know what would cause buzzing noise in Grundig tk120 all the time even when volume control turned down.

Hi Darren. I have a similar machine the Grundig TK141. I’ve replaced the belts and everything works fine apart from the rewind is very sluggish. I think like yours, the rewind is motor driven so nothing to do with the belts. Am I right in thinking there is not enough friction between the wheel that turns the spool that feeds the tape? If so, is there a way of increasing the friction to get it working properly again? Thanks, John.
Hi John, Yes it looks the same deck as mine. Other problem you get is the roller on the cam splits. Yes that rubber bit on motor doesn't grip when engaged on left rewind spool. You could try Clydesight's idea with ammonia first. I used O rings as you saw in video. Mine needs repair as clutch on take up has bad squeal.
Darren Coe Hi Darren. Thanks for getting back to me. I must have been half asleep when I watched this the first time. I see what you’ve done now with the idler wheel. I will give your suggestions a go and see if I can get it to work properly again. Other than that one problem it’s fine and produces a good sound. I’ve been playing back tapes recorded in 1967 and have been quite amazed at how good the sound quality is. Hope you get the squeal on yours sorted! Cheers, John✨👍✨
Helpful video....I need to repair my TK144, which has a perished tension wheel...seen at 1.50 in your video, which is held by a spring tension arm against the nylon selector mechanism which selects play, FF etc. I have the grey plastic spindle but the sleeve has gone. Any thoughts on how to replace the sleeve?
Ah yes mine broke too. A piece of think hose pipe.

Just this minute bought the same machine daz .ff and rewind ok but play,the tape chews in the capstan .any ideas ?
Is the front spool rotating ok. Clutch problems
@@darrencoe5795 sorry for none technical response Darren but it gets to the pinch roller and just starts spotting the tape out .I'll do a very quick vid on my channel mate .
Hi i have a tk124 real to real player no audio i am not much as an electrical person.
I suspect the amplifier isn't working due a fault. Do exercise the record button up and down a few times with no tape on the machine in case it's just contact problem in the switch.
