This machine is also practically identical to the TK141 so this repair process should be the same. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

Thanks for sharing this. It brings back a painful memory: as a teenager in the early 80's my late dad let me have his player (not sure the exact model but looked very similar) and it quickly became my favorite possession. One day the main belt broke. I tried to fix it myself but I remember its architecture comprising metal brackets held together by a multitude of springs and feeling like I just didn't have enough hands to put the brackets together and springs in place. That was the end of it. 😞

I have a TK146 like the one in the video (it's not a TK148). There is an easy way to replace the main belt: Do it from the bottom. The capstan rests on a bearing in the bottom that is embedded in a small metal plate. If this is removed both belts can be fed in from the bottom and after putting them around the motor and take-up wheel the bearing can be reattached and that's it.

Got a bit tiring you slagging it off at every turn. If you think this is built like crap you want to try looking inside a modern cassette player. This is thoroughbred craftsmanship in comparison, and they weren’t at all cheap when new. The cheap models were the likes of Fidelity.

Exactly my thoughts. They were even more expensive than similar Philips models - and way more durable.

    Hello,
I am French and in a garage sale yesterday I bought a GRUNDIG TK121 tape recorder.
the seller told me that it would turn but no sound. I didn't plug it in before cleaning it because there was a lot of dust on it and in it. When I take it apart I see that several straps are broken.
I am looking for the manual in French or English for this TK 121. And also someone who could fix it for me.
Can you do it ? How to contact you?
    Thank you for your help.
