    Hi Albert! I’m in a pretty tough spot in life now, and I am thinking of getting a bengal cat (my first pet ever) after I settle at a new place in a new city. After I am done with my day, I just sit in my room alone and watch your videos, I had so much fun learning about your tricks, mia is actually just adorable, and I just have a lot of fun at night now. I am really thankful that I found your channel as my resource and my emotional support, I love your videos, they are clear and warm. I will now forever be a proud subscriber of yours and I can’t wait to show you my own cat!

    Hey, Albert! Good to see you again! I got a new cat about 5 months ago, after having a cat who was aggressive and that I had to rehome 😢 So I was ready to work with a cooperative new cat and learned about clicker training just before I found her. She is showing great aptitude for this. Cat questions: 1)food, hopefully a special treat. 2) he wants to get through the door, and he knows that you help him out with that. 3) he needs your attention right where he is! I see you producing merch now...I hope that this adventure is successful for both of you. ❤❤❤

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello!!
      Thank you for the kind words! I hope all goes great with your new cat!
      1) I feed Mia raw, I use Darwins but I'd recommend you to check your cat first with a Vet to make sure they have their immune system in check before switching. Regarding treats, I use freeze dried chicken: amzn.to/3sggNFL
      2) To prevent door dashing I always recommend using a harness 100% of the time they go out. Stablish a routine so they get used to waiting for the harness before leaving the house. If you don't walk them yet, consider doing it, it's a great form of enrichment and will help you control their outdoor drive. (once they've tried it, they'll want more, so only start if you are ready to continue)
      3) She's a cat. It's normal. Try to anticipate their needs for enrichment upfront and she won't bother as much. 2 cats can help, and they are not necessarily twice as much work!
      Much love!

    Your videos have helped me so much to train my cat complex tricks! From clicker training to sitting on my shoulder, I've been training her since october of 2022 and we've slowly built up backpack, harness, and leash training. I've been working towards the goal of being able to take my cat to the park and outdoors in general, and we're finally coming close to it! Any tips for car training and getting a cat comfortable in a car? It's the only thing I have left to train her.

    Hi! New subscriber here 😊
    I stumbled across your videos and have been lowkey studying them for a bit now😅 I have a 5 year old indoor/outdoor cat (he started as indoor but had a strong desire to go outside). I want him to be more of an indoor car, but I want to harness train him so that I can walk him outdoors etc.
    I’ve gotten him on a feeding schedule AND have been charging my clicker for maybe a week and half. I think he might be ready to start with more training.
    In what order would recommend to train him in with the tricks after charging the clicker? For example would this be recommended:
    1. Finger train
    2. Come when called
    3. Sit and stay
    4. Harness train
    Would you suggest starting with another trick before the finger trick?

    • @MelissaChapin
      @MelissaChapin ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@WillowTheGreatDane I hope you won't mind if I share some insights from hand rearing and lead and harness training our cats? Because at 5 weeks old, I personally would wait as she's most likely teething, learning physical boundaries (what's too high, what's too far, heavy, etc.) and very emotionally impressionable. It's like asking a toddler to handle a big bike AND have road sense. A 5-weeker might be able to _physically_ do what you're asking but if something goes wrong, you can scare them for life and even affect the disposition of the kitten.
      I don't know if mama cat is around, but they usually are still feeding their babies and taking over can affect milk schedules and parent-child bonding, which could delay weaning.I started at 8 weeks when they no longer depended on their mum for nutrition. Depending on where you live, it should be a bit cooler/warmer by then too. PS for teething and mischief at 5 weeks I wore them out with play sessions 3-4 times daily. Laser pointer & stretchy fabric-type wand did wonders. Mama cat also appreciated the rest time! I sincerely hope this helps. 🐈‍⬛✨

    Just started charging the clicker and the first round went well, but the two next rounds, she pulled away from the treat when I clicked and I'm starting to think she think I click to stop her from getting the treat.. It's a dog clicker and she's pretty wary around loud noises..
    1. She wanna climb inside the fridge..
    2. She wants to go outside..
    3. She got stuck behind a moving box.. again..

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some cats get startled by the loud noise. There are quiet clickers that might help: amzn.to/3qX8Jtn On the other hand, consider clicking further away from your cat, sometimes the clicker on your back can help.
      If you where tossing the treat away after clicking, she might be getting ready for running. Make sure you leave the trick nearby after clicking. Don't give up, it takes more than 20 clicks for the cat to start understanding.

  • @TheNutbrittle

    1 - My cat doesn't react to the opening of the fridge door. 2 - My cat sits in front of a closed door until I allow her to go inside. I only open the door when she stops "whining." I have a hamster, and he free roams the living room at night, the reason she's been trained to accept closed doors. 3 - My cat doesn’t really meow, and she doesn’t make loud noises. If ever she meowed, it would be soft and short and cute. This means food ahora mismo! 😁

    My cat has learned that if she does something wrong (e.g. jumps on dining table) and corrects herself, she will get a treat. So she repeats these actions to get treats. If we don't reward her with treats, she will stay on the table until she does. We remove her and she jumps right back. And now she associates jumping on and off the table with getting treats. How do we teach her to stay away from the table?

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is such a beautiful question. It's the type of problem that people who are doing things right can potentially have.
      There are 3 things I'd start doing right away:
      - Kick the cat of the table as many times as needed. NEVER again reward for getting down.
      - Teach the cat to stay in one place and reward them when they do so. This will make staying where you want rewarding, which is better than getting rewarded from leaving where you don't want them.
      - Introduce intermitent reinforcement. Don't reward every time, just sporadically. This triggers the gambling effect. They won't know when they are going to get rewarded so they'll stay in the place for longer to get that treat.

      There are many good alternatives! A word cue like "YES" or "GOOD" work well. Also snapping fingers it's an option.
      The only call out is that you have to be consistent with the noise, regardless of what it is, or the sound will be meaningless!

She loves biting things (especially my hands and feet). I want her to stop doing it, but a lot of videos I saw on it was via clicker. Please do help! Thanks :)

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, absolutely. The clicker is only a marker of behaviors. It helps bridge the gap between the behavior and receiving a reward but if you are precise and use always the same word, like "YES" that works as well. I'm right now working on a video that talks about that. Will publish it next week!

      Personally I use exactly the same voice tones and words each time. I also click my tongue and if my cat is being exceptionally nice, then I'm exceptionally smoochy and I make sure he chases me around and I throw pieces of paper and other little toys that he can chase around until he is very tired and then he has a good little rest. That way, if my cat does something that I don't like, biting at me or scratching, none of the attention he wants will ever happen. he is basically learning that biting and scratching equals completely ignoring and no interest in chasing and playing. I also don't touch him very much. I give him a pat and tell him he's a good boy and then I leave him alone so that he associates handling with only nice experiences and he knows he doesn't have to bite me when I'm touching him. positive interaction each time is key! if he is negative, I don't interact at all. If he is positive, I always interact with him! when he's asleep, I can just leave him be.

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are a couple things you can do if you want to train your kittens together:
      1) Use a different clicker sound (so that they don't confuse their "click" with their siblings)
      2) Teach them different tricks (so they don't both do the trick at the same time)
      The other alternative, is locking one cat at a time. You can lock yourself with the cat you are training instead of the cat that it's not trained. That makes the experience for the cat that's alone nicer.

      The best way to stop unwanted behavior is divided in 3 parts:
      - Understand the WHY
      - Offer an ALTERNATIVE
      - REWARD for using the alternative
      I explain this system, how to teach the word no and how to stop your cat from jumpin on counters or door dashing in this video:
