I like the new wonder art but I'm not sold at all on the size. also having new card backs means its not really interchangeable with old expansions. mirror foil backed cards are more expensive to make. the cards are already an unusual size, do they even make proper sleeves for them?
Yes there are sleeves made for them. They are uncommon sleeves size but not the rarest ones I seen such as Tribune, Gizmos, Betrayal House on the Hill, etc.
The board is larger, but with new cards design, we will have more space on the table because of the way we can stack the cards. The board was not really a problem, but when you play with expansions, it can go crazy pretty fast.
Glad I am not the only person that is pissed they're not releasing this with Cities and Leaders built in. I love that you took the simplicity of the chaining symbol from Duel.. but that is about it. Absolutely not worth buying the base game again just for that. This is clearly just for anyone that has never played the game before and a giant middle finger to existing fans.

Deuxièmement, ok ça brille, mais je préfère ma version. La couverture semble beaucoup trop édulcorée, elle perd de son charme. Le thermoformage, lol, ça dair longtemps que j'ai balancé le mien au profit d'un insert pour y mettre la pléthore d'extensions. Une boite plus grande, c'est difficile à caser... Pas fan du nouveau dos des cartes, par contre le devant est superbe, et le système de Duel est top ! Les aides de jeu, c'est une très bonne idée, seront elles dispo seules ? Bref, tant mieux pour ceux qui ne l'ont pas et qui pourront l'avoir. Je ferai l'impasse.
This is the first 2nd edition that seems to actually improve on its artwork and presentation. Got Duel today, excited to pick up this new edition of the original down the line!
It was not a month ago that I bought the old version of this game in Brazil and I will be about 2 years without seeing if you want to sell this version or on Amazon. If you wanted to launch something new, use the old molds and make an updated version and a luxury version. The game is 10 years old and want to reshape !? You could have that appreciation in the 4 years of the game's life. But okay. No problem, because they don't release a version with all the expansions or the 3 favorites. Wouldn't you give so much money? I think At least I hope to see the expansions being sold cheaper at ridiculous prices, so maybe I buy it or not ...
The new Wonder boards being bigger is great but it's only gained the amount that will be taken up by now having a full card width at the top left as opposed to 2/3 as before. It hasn't gained any room at all from what I can see.
This looks fantastic! Love that there is space for sleeving cards. Artwork is gorgeous. Also love that the cards now have a style similar to the 7 Wonders Duel cards. It's so easy to chain in 7WD because of the iconography. Now it will be just as easy with 7W. Great job!
Speaker says a little too much "cool",... just a relooking,... not much to point out, just day and night illustrations (ok), I just see also some changes in some wonders (Babylon has one less step, and maybe Halikarnasse also, not seen well)... and some strange symbols on the top of green cards,... another way to win ?
How to "improve" something that was just great. And mismatch it with older expansion in the process... 😥 My biggest concern is that by creating two versions "old" and "new" we end up with tokens and cards visual discrepancies, between "new"/"old" game/expansions. (I assume you intend to re-edit the expansions on this model). Let's say I have the new base version of the game but want to use the old expansions... Or the other way around, if you intend to "refresh" your expansions too, but I already have the "old" base game. We will end up having a mish-mash of tokens and variation of the same cards but with different symbols/placement. I know it won't change the rules but still... 7 Wonders has already a lot of visual and symbol complexity, and relies on a consistent symbol visibility. Messing with it is the worse thing to do. I liked 7 Wonders a lot for its consistency throughout its expansions evolution, the fact you can play the base game with expansions in any order is really great. You even took the care and succeeded in keeping the art-style of the original when you changed your illustrator for Armada. I'm sorry to rant, and to sound so negative, but I can't help but see all the issues it may create. I'd understand you'd like to "refresh" your game after maybe 20 or 30 years, but now ? The only cool thing in this is the box thermo-formage and some visual improvements for wonders. And yes, I admit, it looks nicer ! Although, frankly I've never heard anybody complaining about the game aesthetics getting old.
Hi there! There is no promo card included in the game but we've distributed some promos to some shops indeed :) but they may keep it for tournament or other kind of events
So does this mean that when new expansions come out in the future, people who have the original version won't be able to play them and add them to their original collection? If so, that's pretty disappointing...
Even though i looooveee the new art and design... when you own everything... its a shame :( cant find myself playing without armada or leaders... but cant mix and will be obliged to buy everything again ( nonetheless to speak about the cost itll be) and if rumors of new expansions comes true... it wont fit with the old design... but whhhyyyy do this to all of us who made the game a success?!??
why are you obliged to buy everything again? did the copy you own suddenly burst into flames or something? A newer edition of a game doesn't invalidate an old version. It's still the same great game you've been enjoying for years. That's not going anywhere.

No doesnt mean my game burst into flame but if theyr release news expansions... there goes the wheel o rebuy everything cuz the backing isnt the same. Im all in with new visuals all in with bigger wonders... and god i do lpve those new shiny backs but... it wont fit with your old version when you ll mixed them... thats not complaning that making a point that both version wont be working together and size cards arent standard you cant sleeve them with opaque backs to hide the old and the new...
@@lostlya ok, that's a big IF. It seems to me the logical thing would be to release the original expansions first and then any brand new expansions (if they exist). And even if they eventually release new expansions, you already have a complete game with, how many? Is it four expansions? You don't HAVE TO get any more. And if 7 Wonders really is you favorite game of all time, then you have the option of buying the new edition, but you're definitely not obliged to do anything.
We decided to remove these cards as we’re now advising to randomly distribute the Wonders boards or even choose the one you want at the beginning of the game :)
@@ReposProduction thx, but with cards one can shuffle them (not have a look) and randomly distribute..with the big carton boards not so easy (esp when everybody know their looks), isn't it? An alternative (i think) may be to choose different resource cards (as each wonder has unique basic resource?) but it could be hinted in the manual (I am new to the game, just played the old version once or twice in the past)
I’m a huge 7 Wonders fan, one of my favourite games to introduce people who fancy stepping into slightly more complex games (compared to your typical “gateways”). There are many improvements here however this video is slightly tone deaf. People are always going to bring up issues and the best thing is to address them in video to help put out the inevitable fires that will dampen your release.
Some improvements but on the whole I prefer the original. Have started buying buying some of the original editions expansions as the new artwork won't be compatible.
@@Patronux The stages of construction of wonders have, among other things, been changed a lot to improve the balance of the game apparently. (not including resource cost changes)
I haven't actually purchased the game yet, so I like the changes that have been made, but if/when I do buy the game I'll want to buy the expansions for it. There's no point buying this edition if the expansions don't match.
What's the point of this release + the new versions of the expansions? I can understand the new resource costs, if that makes the game more balanced, but the new card desing looks worse compared to the old one. And why make the wonder boards bigger? Only two good things are the icons to hide the names of the chainable cards and the new pictures on the wonder boards. Not so excaited about buing all the expansions once more if I must also buy the anniversary Cities and Leaders cards. And what about the promo wonders and leaders?
Yes, I know I will own the original ones. I wonder, if the future expansions will be made compatible with the old version. The new simplistic desing of the new cards makes 'em look cheap on my opinion. I dislike this pointless anniversary edition, but maybe someone will buy the same game & expansions twice and Repos gets some extra money from it.

I usually hate it when people hate new versions... But most of the time the new versions of games are in fact new versions with new/updated rules... But this... What a piece of crap... The changes are so minimal they hardly justify a new version. Most of the art looks so close to the old stuff. The day and night idea is kind of nice, but that's about it. Increasing the size... Meh. But from now on future expansions will not fit with the old version. Probably going to sell the old stuff now...
IMHO this re-ediion is not needed, and... I am not rebuying my whole 7W expansions to match an updated base version. Also, despite I really love this gmae, ther is something I hate from the base game edition and you have not addressed it here: the boxbrings so much air... empty space on boxes is infurating for me, you could have reduced the box size...
Hmm... Odd... I quite like the box size. I placed two x-packs in there with additional wonderboards and rule books and score sheets. Fits quite nicely.

If you remove the insert and jsut place the components in the box, you´ll see how much empty space there is left. That is what I meant.
@@135Pandemonium Of course, for new players is good just because it is another option, and options are good. It is jsut a matter of taste which version you prefer (for example I do like the front of the new cards, but I strongly dislike the back). Some old players will sell their stuff so new players will have the choice of getting the old, or the new. But I do know plenty of old players which are not going to throw away their beloved old edition copies just to get into the new edition (which again, some aesthetic changes will be perceived as good, others like the back of the cards for me, will not) And if new content is ever going to be released... Repos production has to be aware that plenty of old, faithful, players are gonna be pissed off, as they are going to feel, at least, torn forced to get rid of the old stuff and buy into the new design, or mix them if it even is compatible (and mixing editions when the main change is the aesthetics change, defeats the whole pupose of going through aesthetic chnages). There are many good games out there... I am perfectly OK keeping my beloved old edition and stepping down from this one (and hence not ever giving more money to Repos from 7 Wonders, other than Duel) rather than mixing editions, or buying all the new edition as I do not think Repos is going to offer to just buy my old collection and give me the new one... This is a decission Repos has forced on every one of the old players, of which are many. I am OK with my decission, others will have FOMO, others will go through the hazle of selling all the old edition and buying the new one etc etc. That is why I began saying, IMHO, this new edition is not needed, and it can bring more problems than what it fixes (and it does not fix many because the original game has barely no problems, and hence, once again, is not needed). One of this problems being, loosing some followers and not gaining many new ones, becasuse if you really are a newcomer, there is absolutley nothing wrong with the "old" edition, showcased by the very minor balance changes on the new one, and the aesthetic changes which are completley up for debate (as I said, I do not like hte back of the cards, and I do not need bigger wonder boards as the game already can clog the table quite a bit)
Well, I gotta admit I didn't like the new edition all that much, so no chance of fomo. Maybe that will change if they eventually release a new expansion.
Really nice redesign, and indeed clearly aimed at new players that don’t own the game yet. Which is totally cool in my book. :) To all the haters: no one is forcing to buy this, I’m happy owning the first edition. And I have a custom insert that fits everything neatly. Maybe a big box would be nice for new players containing everything. But I don’t see the point in buying a game anew I already own and love. ;)
In case anyone missed it, they are changing (sorry, rebalancing) costs and resources throughout the game (we can see that in the Olympia comparison in the video), and releasing updated Leaders, Cities & Armada expansions to account for that, so if existing owners want to stay compatible with any possible future releases that are balanced around these revised releases then yes you kind of are forced to buy this actually.
They may not be forcing you to buy it, but I bet that if they release any new component they will forget about all the old version users and release it for this one, even if we are the ones that invested in this game an all its expansions. Greedy Repos
Disappointing Asmodee money grab edition. After releasing the Armada extension last year a new edition of the base game and all other extensions (except Babylon) should not have been green lit. Maybe a deluxe big box edition.

I was going to give this a miss until I saw the title was shiny. It may be completely incompatible with the small fortune I have spent on expansions but that shiny title has encouraged me to spend another small fortune. Or maybe not.
Totally disagree with this new version! From most loved game, to most hated game. You have to somehow guarantee the continuity with the old version. What are going to do millions of owners of the old version that want to buy an expansion? Did you think about this?
Scott Petrovits Yes, I am aware of that, however, the old design managed to look Roman just fine, without having the exact elements/design that the Nazi’s chose to steal. (Replace the number on both designs by a Swastika, and tell me which one looks closest to their imagery). Not that it’s bad that they redesigned them, I’m just surprised that nobody saw the close resemblance here, and opted to take a slightly different approach.

I get it, people got mad because they invest a lot in this game especially for so many expansions, but for new mass of young generation this is opportunity to attract them, the old version is okay but need more easy to look simplicity design and documentations
Most of it looks really great, but the iconography and colors for the new military tokens look way, way too much like Nazi imagery. The eagle plus the red and black background with a white circle on top? The "5" even looks vaguely like a swastika at a glance. It's probably too late to change it since I'm sure it's gone to press, but I do think that's a huge, huge problem and immediately puts me off of buying it for that reason alone.

The symbols on green cards are the chain effects that allow future cards to be played for free.

So does this mean that when new expansions come out in the future, people who have the original version won't be able to play them and add them to their original collection? If so, that's pretty disappointing...

Even though i looooveee the new art and design... when you own everything... its a shame :( cant find myself playing without armada or leaders... but cant mix and will be obliged to buy everything again ( nonetheless to speak about the cost itll be) and if rumors of new expansions comes true... it wont fit with the old design... but whhhyyyy do this to all of us who made the game a success?!??
why are you obliged to buy everything again? did the copy you own suddenly burst into flames or something? A newer edition of a game doesn't invalidate an old version. It's still the same great game you've been enjoying for years. That's not going anywhere.
Patronux hes saying if a new expansion comes out it will be incompatible with the old version because they changed the card backs. This is the dumbest shit I’ve seen this year in boardgames
No doesnt mean my game burst into flame but if theyr release news expansions... there goes the wheel o rebuy everything cuz the backing isnt the same. Im all in with new visuals all in with bigger wonders... and god i do lpve those new shiny backs but... it wont fit with your old version when you ll mixed them... thats not complaning that making a point that both version wont be working together and size cards arent standard you cant sleeve them with opaque backs to hide the old and the new...
@@lostlya ok, that's a big IF. It seems to me the logical thing would be to release the original expansions first and then any brand new expansions (if they exist). And even if they eventually release new expansions, you already have a complete game with, how many? Is it four expansions? You don't HAVE TO get any more. And if 7 Wonders really is you favorite game of all time, then you have the option of buying the new edition, but you're definitely not obliged to do anything.

We decided to remove these cards as we’re now advising to randomly distribute the Wonders boards or even choose the one you want at the beginning of the game :)
@@ReposProduction thx, but with cards one can shuffle them (not have a look) and randomly distribute..with the big carton boards not so easy (esp when everybody know their looks), isn't it?
An alternative (i think) may be to choose different resource cards (as each wonder has unique basic resource?) but it could be hinted in the manual (I am new to the game, just played the old version once or twice in the past)
I’m a huge 7 Wonders fan, one of my favourite games to introduce people who fancy stepping into slightly more complex games (compared to your typical “gateways”).
There are many improvements here however this video is slightly tone deaf. People are always going to bring up issues and the best thing is to address them in video to help put out the inevitable fires that will dampen your release.
Some improvements but on the whole I prefer the original. Have started buying buying some of the original editions expansions as the new artwork won't be compatible.

I haven't actually purchased the game yet, so I like the changes that have been made, but if/when I do buy the game I'll want to buy the expansions for it. There's no point buying this edition if the expansions don't match.
What's the point of this release + the new versions of the expansions? I can understand the new resource costs, if that makes the game more balanced, but the new card desing looks worse compared to the old one. And why make the wonder boards bigger? Only two good things are the icons to hide the names of the chainable cards and the new pictures on the wonder boards. Not so excaited about buing all the expansions once more if I must also buy the anniversary Cities and Leaders cards. And what about the promo wonders and leaders?

Yes, I know I will own the original ones. I wonder, if the future expansions will be made compatible with the old version. The new simplistic desing of the new cards makes 'em look cheap on my opinion. I dislike this pointless anniversary edition, but maybe someone will buy the same game & expansions twice and Repos gets some extra money from it.

I usually hate it when people hate new versions... But most of the time the new versions of games are in fact new versions with new/updated rules... But this... What a piece of crap... The changes are so minimal they hardly justify a new version. Most of the art looks so close to the old stuff. The day and night idea is kind of nice, but that's about it.

IMHO this re-ediion is not needed, and... I am not rebuying my whole 7W expansions to match an updated base version. Also, despite I really love this gmae, ther is something I hate from the base game edition and you have not addressed it here: the boxbrings so much air... empty space on boxes is infurating for me, you could have reduced the box size...
Hmm... Odd... I quite like the box size. I placed two x-packs in there with additional wonderboards and rule books and score sheets. Fits quite nicely.
@@olafs_valinieks Of course, if you intend to put extras stuff, you need the space. I jsut mean as a "ready to use" insert, the fact that it wastes space is not nice. If you remove the insert and jsut place the components in the box, you´ll see how much empty space there is left. That is what I meant.

@@135Pandemonium Of course, for new players is good just because it is another option, and options are good. It is jsut a matter of taste which version you prefer (for example I do like the front of the new cards, but I strongly dislike the back).
Some old players will sell their stuff so new players will have the choice of getting the old, or the new. But I do know plenty of old players which are not going to throw away their beloved old edition copies just to get into the new edition (which again, some aesthetic changes will be perceived as good, others like the back of the cards for me, will not)
And if new content is ever going to be released... Repos production has to be aware that plenty of old, faithful, players are gonna be pissed off, as they are going to feel, at least, torn forced to get rid of the old stuff and buy into the new design, or mix them if it even is compatible (and mixing editions when the main change is the aesthetics change, defeats the whole pupose of going through aesthetic chnages).
There are many good games out there... I am perfectly OK keeping my beloved old edition and stepping down from this one (and hence not ever giving more money to Repos from 7 Wonders, other than Duel) rather than mixing editions, or buying all the new edition as I do not think Repos is going to offer to just buy my old collection and give me the new one...
This is a decission Repos has forced on every one of the old players, of which are many. I am OK with my decission, others will have FOMO, others will go through the hazle of selling all the old edition and buying the new one etc etc. That is why I began saying, IMHO, this new edition is not needed, and it can bring more problems than what it fixes (and it does not fix many because the original game has barely no problems, and hence, once again, is not needed). One of this problems being, loosing some followers and not gaining many new ones, becasuse if you really are a newcomer, there is absolutley nothing wrong with the "old" edition, showcased by the very minor balance changes on the new one, and the aesthetic changes which are completley up for debate (as I said, I do not like hte back of the cards, and I do not need bigger wonder boards as the game already can clog the table quite a bit)
Well, I gotta admit I didn't like the new edition all that much, so no chance of fomo. Maybe that will change if they eventually release a new expansion.
I can store leaders and cities expansion plus i sleeves all cards on the old box insert . The new box insert just sucks , waste of spaces .

Really nice redesign, and indeed clearly aimed at new players that don’t own the game yet. Which is totally cool in my book. :) To all the haters: no one is forcing to buy this, I’m happy owning the first edition. And I have a custom insert that fits everything neatly. Maybe a big box would be nice for new players containing everything. But I don’t see the point in buying a game anew I already own and love. ;)
In case anyone missed it, they are changing (sorry, rebalancing) costs and resources throughout the game (we can see that in the Olympia comparison in the video), and releasing updated Leaders, Cities & Armada expansions to account for that, so if existing owners want to stay compatible with any possible future releases that are balanced around these revised releases then yes you kind of are forced to buy this actually.
They may not be forcing you to buy it, but I bet that if they release any new component they will forget about all the old version users and release it for this one, even if we are the ones that invested in this game an all its expansions.
Greedy Repos
Disappointing Asmodee money grab edition. After releasing the Armada extension last year a new edition of the base game and all other extensions (except Babylon) should not have been green lit. Maybe a deluxe big box edition.

I was going to give this a miss until I saw the title was shiny. It may be completely incompatible with the small fortune I have spent on expansions but that shiny title has encouraged me to spend another small fortune. Or maybe not.

Totally disagree with this new version! From most loved game, to most hated game. You have to somehow guarantee the continuity with the old version. What are going to do millions of owners of the old version that want to buy an expansion? Did you think about this?

Scott Petrovits Yes, I am aware of that, however, the old design managed to look Roman just fine, without having the exact elements/design that the Nazi’s chose to steal. (Replace the number on both designs by a Swastika, and tell me which one looks closest to their imagery). Not that it’s bad that they redesigned them, I’m just surprised that nobody saw the close resemblance here, and opted to take a slightly different approach.

Wow, shiny!.. and underwhelming.
Most of it looks really great, but the iconography and colors for the new military tokens look way, way too much like Nazi imagery. The eagle plus the red and black background with a white circle on top? The "5" even looks vaguely like a swastika at a glance. It's probably too late to change it since I'm sure it's gone to press, but I do think that's a huge, huge problem and immediately puts me off of buying it for that reason alone.
While you are right, the Nazis co-opted a much older Roman design which these are based on. Check out spqr legion banners for examples.
