We play with all expansion (of course except Babel) with one special law we invent that makes a big fun and successful difference. The idea is that if you play a black card (from the expansion cities) you can add one more gold coin to the price and then promote any ship you want (of course not for free). Its works very well.
I've heard about this house rule, but I have't tried it yet that's why it wasn't on the list, but good to know it's working for you!

Great video as usual ! I'm interested in expansion reviews, especially Armada which looks to add lots of variety. Does Armada make the game less competitive ? More random ?

Great video. I'm glad to hear that you think 2nd edition base game is more balanced than 1st edition. Why is it such a contentious issue about 1st edition vs 2nd? Do a lot of people think 2nd edition is less balanced?
I saw people with 10k games played in the old one saying that new one is bad. There are a few great players of the old edition constantly making tables for it. That's why, maybe I overtold it in the video. If that's so, my bad! :)

Yes! I did the final design to align to second edition, but I did test it also with 1st edition.
Did you publish your custom wonder set? Did you end up making a full review on Armada? I'm curious if it's worth getting and if it adds more meaningful choices and strategy

Very nice presentation. The information is nice, the problems is that, is like a school presentation a very good one. But I guess thats why you have little people watching the videos, because people s not only looking for the information, but also for entertaiment. Like Shut up and sit down or the Dice Tower that are very fas. But I enjoyed this one, it gave me all the information I wanted and looking for.

You said in the video to remove the strongest wonders. Which ones do you mean by that? Do you recommend removing Hali Night side if I interpreted it correctly?
Mainly the point was to remove the weakest ones such as Stonehedge or in the old edition: Petra. Requiring Hali to be played on the day side might be a good idea to try, tho.

Yes, edifice is great! I haven't had a chance to play as much as I'd like, because it's hard to get real life game lately, but every game I played was good. Recommended!

I'd bet at least one of them will be avaiable there, but I doubt all of them will make it.
Is there anything preventing someone from playing Babel with the 2nd edition of the base game? Any symbols or cards that would not function properly?
Nothing. You can totally do it. The symbols will be a little off (but manageble). I would actually recommend the great projects with the base game, this is the way I'm most excited to play right now and the one I'm suggesting to my IRL friends (some of them agree, some of them prefer base+armada+cities).

No, only leaders will work and it is still probably better for you to buy the old edition of leaders
About Cities first era diplomacy card, I actually used it nicely during one of my latest games.
It actually got discarded. I kinda forgot about it then I have been "forced" to play Halikarnassos A second stage during the middle of the second age.
There was no interesting card in the discard... save for the diplomacy card. Then I later realized that getting it was great because I was playing no military.
So there are definitely plays with this card, just not the most obvious ones :)
Yes, but this line is mostly about hali just being good :) I don't think you can use it age1 and be satisfied.

Hey thanks for this guide! Being a little bit of an advanced board gamer I've bought a base game of 7 wonders 2nd ed just for my non-board game friends to play (it was my first time playing 7 wonders ever) and we loved it so much that we played like 30-40 games of it before buying any expansions. Now after buying leaders and cities we've on like 60-70 played games and don't want to stop. So I was thinking - is that good to add Armada to base+cities+leaders for an "advanced 7 wonders party" or will it be too much? "Too much" I'm talking just fun+strategy+planning: can Armada become this analysis paralysis factor? because I see A LOT of variability of what you can do and what you want to achieve and what you need to think about when playing certain cards. And cities+leaders didn't really do that , they are just adding a little bit of new spicy stuff (just the right amount of it) that either directs you towards your endgame strategy (leaders) or just interacts with the whole table instead of just with your neighbours (cities). So the main question - Base+leaders+cities+armada: is it playable or you are not reccomending this? I also hear online that repos are suggesting play with only 2 expansions but I cannot find it in the armada 2nd ed rulebook. Thanks!
I should also add that when repos suggested 2 expansions, I felt like cities+leaders are feeling like one expansion to me since they add so much combinations with one another, and even having cities related leaders proves that. Meaning cities+leaders+armada is good?
Great question, thank you for that:
My answer: I think you WILL like Armada.
I would suggest to play base Armada for 1 game, then throw Cities for Armada + Cities. I think you will like this combination quite a lot. Then you can add Leaders and see if you like it better with or without.
Leaders + Cities work well together, but I would personally recommend Cities + Armada.
That way you can have 2-3 ways to play depending on the mood:
- Cities + Leaders (what you already like)
- Cities + Armada (what I recommend for you, but I might be wrong)
- Cities + Leaders + Armada (if you want a longer even more combo game)

I have no idea, I use cheap local ones and replace them when neccesary

@@WonderfulPlays I actually don't own any expansions, I only owned the base game for a couple years and just upgraded to the 2nd edition. They just interest me the most.

Yes I do still play, I kinda recently rediscovered my love for the game after like 6 month break. The opinion on the expansions haven't changed much, I like Edifice the most.
Great content! Though there is one "problem" for a video targetted at wider audience (which a "buying guide" probably is): Pacing.
The random youtuber is impatient. And a 30min video with a slow start is discouraging.
While pacing is difficult to work on, the new TH-cam option of adding "chapters" is great simple fix, as it allow impatient viewers to jump to the part that interest them.

I just like to play with all expansions but I have no friends and BGA just have the base game so I can just play with myself.
I think I like Cities the best as a standalone expansion. It's very straightforward and fairly well balanced. You could shuffle it in with new players and it meshes very well.
Leaders I feel is too unbalanced and more or less forces you to follow the strategies available to your leaders, which I didn't like.
Babel is too chaotic. You end up in situations where nobody can do anything for like three turns because costs become prohibitive.
Wonder Pack, I don't care for the theming on the wonders. Even as a joke card, it bothers me that Mannakin Pis is even included in the game. Don't care for Catan either.
I haven't tried Armada yet, but it looks very interesting and I appreciate the naval theme. I would be very curious to play Armada + Cities.
For a while Cities was my favorite expansion, then I tried Armada and it was my favorite then I played much, much more and came to the conclusions in this video. I think you should try Armada.
The only expansion I want is a 4th age. Is that so much to ask??
I think 4th can't happen, because 3rd needs to be main scoring one and having two scoring would be very weird. Age 0 is kinda in leaders now.
@@WonderfulPlays You can just hold the scoring off for another round. Maybe it's not technically the way it's supposed to be played but I wouldn't mind. The games go by too quickly for me
