This brings back memories of driving cross country and playing this song on cassette at a very loud volume and singing it with my late wife having the time of our life !!! Just great !!!
That sounds like a wonderful memory. My late wife was the only other person I knew that had even heard of this song, and she loved it as much as I did. We also played it on more than a few of our adventures. Just one of many songs that will always remind me of her.
Pretty sure that the drums got "canned" at some point, so the long versions probably have a repeating drum on it. I don't think ANY drummer could keep that beat for this long. ;-)
I just tried 2 hold that beat..no way!!! its so complicated but simple! I was correct 10 sec the most, few bars, good practice 2 separate hands and legs @@Bakaat777
My dad was a sailor in early 90's. He told me that one sunny Sunday when he was coming down from the ship deck to a quay with the crew after long and exhausting cruise he heard that song in the harbor speakers...and that was like a priceless moment for him. Everytime I hear that song I've got that scene right in front of my eyes.. Deep touching combination of joy and nostalgia in the same time.
I was just 14/15 when I first heard this track. I will be 55 years old next month and still jam out every time I hear it. I have a 2017 Corvette Stingray now, but it still meant more to crank it up in my old Sanyo cassette deck that I had in my 1970 Datsun 510 sedan when I graduated from high school in 1983.
@Gilbert Couillard -- Cool little car - sort of a poor man's BMW.....but I almost died in a crash in it. A tie rod broke & my steering went out. Rolled it into a ditch on a turn. Argh!
In 1978 two awesome things happened. I got my first driver's license and this song came out. Even through the static on the AM radio, this one I knew was going to be forever.
LOL... got mine in '77 and listened to "Black Betty" a dozen times on the trip we took to Jacksonville the morning I got my license. I was already a pro at driving, but I still scared mom drafting 18-wheelers. I had been driving since 9, and no... we weren't farmers. Peace.
And this is a1980's release isn't it. I just remember driving other people's car's because of where I worked.... this song is one of those that makes you drive faster....(correct me on the year came out...'78 maybe? Great song! ☮️
Wow, just amazing! Thanks to TH-cam in the future year of 2023, I learned that one of my favourite songs from the summer of 1979 had an extended version. Grateful to hear this longer tune. Always loved this song, takes me back to summer of 1979 driving around in my best friend Glen's 1957 Dodge, big tail finned car we cruised around in, We were such nerds, but we thought we were cool. Of course, we couldn't be dorks with " Driver's Seat " blasting from the AM radio. Too bad CKLG or CFUN Vancouver, British Columbia never played this EP version 44 years back.
Started 2024 discovering this song. A program about old songs and this one appeared (Not the long version tho). Looks like I've found the song to listen this whole year.
Perfect song. Beat that gets your leg moving, guitar goes straight into your body, haunting keyboard with his vocals is emotional. Thank the gods for this....
Oh boy, son of a bitch, this is the first time I've heard this song in,, in,, um,,, a bunch of years... Late 70,s. AND ALL THE THE FREAKIN 80,S. MUSIC, COCAINE BUY THE TRUCK LOAD, AND STRIPPERS AND SEX. LOTS AND LOTS OF ALL OF IT. AND LOTS OF MONEY IN THE 80,S
Don't concentrate on just "Hits". In my life, I have bought very few 'singles', instead I buy albums. Maybe at first listen, you may not like any other song on the album. But listen to it frequently, and you may be surprised how many songs on that album you will grow to love.
Its a shame that memorable songs like this aren't written anymore. I remember when this song came out. It didn't have to be played on the radio a thousand times a day to be remembered. All it takes is one listen and the melody and hook stays in your head.
I was listen to Art Bell. He had great taste in Music. He introduced me to Ray Lynch and I didn't know it was on GTA IV. I should've been open to new music. This song is catchy:)
Just heard this song for a commercial for Prime technology, a computer notebook, I'm like WOW! I remember this song. Had to Google it. Great song ! Finally learned the lyrics ! I'm proud that I grew up with this song. Haunting and beautiful! I gotta share this with others. It's like the most perfect song that could ever be, in itself. The guitar, the keyboards....Is addicting. Be addicted to life, " no elite".
Catchy lil'tune I still enjoy listening to some 43 yrs later. I was 23. Remember, you don't regret as much as what you have done. But you will really regret what you haven't done in life's journey. Remember, please, in your late 50's, ..don't dwell on it. Accept it, be Yourself, ..and give advice to the young ones so they can benefit from your teachings. ☮️
OMF'ing God that was fantastic! And this video, the beginning and the end with the dark and light, it gave me goosebumps! He gave the angel HIS darkness and walked away. My name is Jenny BTW....
One THE theme songs for our '78-'79 high school senior class. You could always here this coming from someone's car while we were parked at the beach, partying here in Florida. It came from MY car many times while at our favorite keg party spot in college. I had a car with a big trunk and 6x9s (no subs back then) with an amp and I wore OUT that mixed tape with Driver's Seat on it. My girlfriend got tired of it, but hey... it was college. There were others. ;-) Our keg party spot was a creek out on some lonesome highway, far from campus, and as a joke, I put a song on that mixed tape, that brought surprising results. After hearing AC/DC, and Van Halen and all the other rock groups of the late 70s and early 80s, I put about 10 seconds of silence after them on the tape and then POW! - "Put another log on the fire". It was THE most out of place song I had in my music "library", and thought it would be funny. It turned out to be the song that got the most hoots and hollers. This WAS Alabama, after all. Well, we all DID commence to putting more logs on the fire and then started dancing arms over shoulders like The Rockettes, kicking our legs up and all. Never had so much fun in all my life. Of course, baseball and basketball practices were a freaking BITCH! LOL Peace!
On my car sound system under the heading: "Drivin' Music" (followed by Golden Earring and Radar Love). Suddenly feel the need to pick up the keys and take the Jaaaaaaaaag out....."
12 when it came out, now almost 60 and when I sing it, almost everyone asks who it is.😊

Me 3 I heard on kearth 101
One of a few driving songs that’ve earned me speeding tickets!
One of those songs that you love from the first time you hear it.

No lie. I was around 13 when it first came out. Loved it then, love it now. It always makes me smile whenever I hear it played.

This song should be extended into eternity.
hehe right?!
So True!!

There will never ever be a decade of music like the music of the 70’s, and I was the right age, high school thru college to enjoy it all!
Fantastic extended version.. An absolute cult classic of a song.. So glad new generations get to hear these wonderful time capsules., ⌚😊
Drummer is pacing with no sign of slowing up. Just awesome as it gets. Love this song.
