- There are over 38 AP courses currently, ranging from basic topics like calculus and chemistry, to even the topic of human geography. However, there could always be more with the increased amount of classes colleges teach. Some simple ideas are classes for your major, like an AP engineering class! In this video we go over 10 possible AP classes that high schools should offer for their students, so they can get even MORE ahead in college. Comment below your thoughts on these classes and if they should be implemented. Also let us know if you think there is another AP class that should be added instead!

College board has actually announced plans (a few years back) on AP World History: Ancient (to supplement the change of World History to “modern”) and an AP Anatomy and Physiology class.
Also, there have been tons of other AP classes that were discontinued but could possibly come back, including French Literature, Latin Literature, and Comp Sci AB (which includes data structures).
Woah that's interesting to hear. I feel like some of those are still too specific, boring, and too related to a major, like Anatomy and Physiology, and APWH Ancient is just to unreliable, but I guess it's their choice. I just had a lot of fun brainstorming some APs I wished they added, as well as having fun making the colorful icons :)

I really would like to see more STEM degrees. Maybe something like ComSci B, as a sequel to CSA. Besides the Physics C courses, there aren’t many engineering courses, so I think a Fundamentals of Engineering course is a good idea.

I’d like to see AP calc CD. Essentially you take AB first which is calc 1, then you take CD which is calc 2. This makes more sense imo since calc BC has a weird overlap with AB

Ap human is ap geography. There's a general geography unit but most of what you would learn as a geographer is moreso human geography.

Though I’d like to see it happen, here’s why AP Organic chemistry would be hard to make work. For the actual College Class Organic Chemistry, you have to compete General Chemistry 1 and General Chemistry 2 first, which are also chemistry courses. If you get a 5 on the AP Chem exam, in most colleges, it course equivalency is General Chemistry 1 and 2. However, if AP Organic Chemistry is a thing, you’d need to complete AP Chem first, and on top of that it’s recommended to take some form of chemistry before taking AP Chem. So that’s 3 years of chemistry, but most high schools require 1 year of chemistry and 1 year of biology. So it can happen but it would be really difficult

AP music history would be great. With all of the opportunities that visual art students have in AP, another music class besides music theory feels justified, especially since most colleges require music history for certain music majors or minors
Ngl, the AP courses that study race never sit well with me. It just shoves a bunch of different cultures, identities, traditions, and races all into one category. Not to mention, that'll just cause people to ask for AP courses of more races, like AP Hispanic History or AP Indigenous Studies. This will just only propagate the ignorant American belief that there are only 5 different races in the world, when that can't be further from the truth. That's why I really don't like AP African American studies or any of the other proposed racial APs.

that’s so cool! My first language is Russian and I’ve been striving to “up-keep” my reading and writing alongside learning Ukrainian and Belarusian. I feel like knowing another language is absolutely vital in the current climate of the world. I’ve always wanted my school to have more language classes besides Spanish and French - if they taught Chinese, I would have 100% taken it…

Mr. AP, there's technically already two engineering AP courses: AP Physics C: Electricity and Magness and Physics C: Mechanics. MIT takes engineering credit for both of those courses too.

My ideas: AP CSB(continuation of java and maybe extra details like string theory and stuff), AP Law and Criminology(debates and learning about specific rules of the law), and AP Computer Engineering (specifics of the parts and production of a pc such as gpu, ram and etc),

2. I also love AP Asian Studies, that seems very cool.
3. AP Cybersecurity is definitely an interesting course, I am not sure how on board I am for it though, it certainly is needed but I still feel oddly unsure.
4. I think AP Organic Chemistry is doing too much. I like the idea of just one AP chem class, because I think it is too hyperfocused, and AP Chem goes deep enough into many of those concepts as well. There is probably better focus spent on other directions.
5. AP World Literature seems interesting, and maybe a secondary course to that would be AP Linguistics, but with all the AP Literature and Language courses already offered, it just seems excessive and unnecessary.
6. I like the idea for AP Linear Algebra, but you could make the new calc class be AP Multivariable Calculus, or AP Advanced Calculus, etc. Or AP Calc CD, not DE since CD is the natural progression.
7. Nevermind the note on the bottom, I was making this comment as the video progressed. AP Korean sounds cool.
8. AP Astronomy sounds HELLA cool since I am a fan or astronomy.
9. AP Zoology seems cool as well, but might not be too specific since APES does go into some discussion of animals, but not really too much. APES does focus more on soil, pollution, agriculture, etc. so AP Zoology is certainly possible.
10. In addition to his, I would think about having an AP Nutrition course.
Additional thoughts: I think an AP Architecture class is a neat idea since Architecture is not really looked into in other AP classes too much. I know AP Art history kind of looks at certain Architecture, but I think Architecture deserves its own AP class. Also, I think some AP Business and Management, or AP Marketing and Sales course is also a good idea for business majors. AP Law is an interesting idea because AP U.S. Government and Politics and AP U.S. History also go in-depth to some aspects of law, but I think they are more historical, and AP Law will focus more on a fundamental and in-depth look into current and modern law and court procedures and what not. AP Forensics might be an interesting pathway as well.
The idea for AP Music History I think works great since AP Art History is already a thing, like we have like 4 AP Art classes, what about music? Why only 1?
Also the idea for AP Anatomy seems brilliant to me, I think it is a perfect class to add on.
Also for the languages, Hindi is the 3rd most spoken language in the world, so I think there should be an AP Hindi course. Same goes for AP Arabic, AP Bengali, and AP Portuguese, but AP Arabic and AP Hindi are probably the next 2 before other language courses come out.

My school has Game Design 1 and 2 so it would be nice to have something like AP Game Design and Development.

Hi! Watching this video makes me really cringe because to me it seems like you haven't actually gotten into university yet, have you? The assumptions you make throughout the video are that which are made by a high school student which is fair but still.
Either way, I'm going to cover the most egregious part of this video first which is the last section where you go into courses suggested by other people.
1: Business and econ are not at all similar. This is the equivalent of saying "Biology and Chemistry are basically the same course so why not put them together?" If you've taken bio and chem, you'd know they are not that similar at all. While they both support each other, you can have an extensive knowledge of one without having any knowledge of the other. The people an AP business course would service are not the same people that an AP econ course services. Also, AP business is significantly less specific than AP Econ. Business courses are a requirement for all finance-based majors (So this would be Fin Engineering, finance, accounting, etc). Econ on the other hand is significantly more specific as the only people who will ever take an econ course are people who are either econ majors or people who wish to take it for their free electives. Econ is not necessary for any major besides econ and maybe finance/fin eng.
2: Same thing goes with philosophy. Philosophy itself is a radically different subject in comparison to psychology. I'm surprised you think that these subjects are related to begin with. I guess they have the same aesthetic? But even then, I really cannot think of any intersections between psychology and philosophy. If you don't believe me, I strongly encourage you look into an intro to philosophy book and an intro to psychology book. You'll notice very quickly the content intersection is not the same
3: Anatomy is it lol. I have surveyed a couple of universities that are well renowned for their healthcare pathways (UCLA and Brown namely) and 3 different community colleges for a wide sample size. Not a single one of them have a "basics in healthcare" course because that is way too generalized of a course. An anatomy course would work just fine as it's still a requirement for all biological related majors. (So biology, bioinformatics, bioengineering, etc.)
With that stated, I feel it's important for people to remember: the AP's goal is NOT to create a curriculum, it's to create a course that is easily transferable to universities. This means 2 major things:
1: the course must exist at the vast majority of schools. This knocks out Engineering, cybersecurity, and zoology as courses. Most unis DO NOT offer these courses as standalone courses. If you want to get a taste in engineering then get a minor in physics or engineering or smth. If you want to get a taste in cybersecurity then take a couple of courses in software engineering, so on and so forth. These courses are not standalone courses that exist in 99% of unis.
2: The course must NOT be reliant on a pathway. This is because none of the AP courses are designed to have any college-level prerequisites to be taken. (I.e if you want to take Calc BC it's NOT a requirement for you to take AP precalc as AP Calc BC is not designed assuming you know AP precalc content and only know algebra II with some trig. Or how AP Calc is NOT a corequisite for AP Physics Cs because they are designed with the assumption you only have a basic idea on what integration and derivation is on a conceptual level). This knocks out Astronomy, OChem, World Lit, Cybersecurity (again), and Zoology (again). All of these courses (if they exist at a university) typically require a LOT of prerequisites to be taken (i.e astronomy expects at least algebra-based physics to be taken at the college level, or world lit expects regular literature to be taken). These courses cannot work.
The only 2 courses in this video that'd actually work are Asian Studies and health and PE. These course ideas are fine, maybe the title "Health and PE" should get changed to "Kinesiology" as that's the name of that course in college usually but other than that it's fine.
Interesting take. You're right on that we are high school students. We simply made this video for fun and entertainment, not so much to influence and encourage these APs nor reject others.
