    Not taking lang was my second biggest mistake in high school, like everyone told me how it was so good and really easy. To make up for it, I took lit and it was literally SO painful, then again I’m a stem person. For the physics classes, ap 1 is really difficult for being a first physics class for a lot of people, physics 2 you get a handle of it so it is not as bad, but physics c… mechanics is a real struggle but E&M will literally murder you, like it’s probably worse than AP Chem. The 55% on the exam to get a 5 probably gives you an idea of the literal HELL

    My teacher is rlly rlly good for ap capstone (research/seminar) and I have literally learned so much despite knowing how to research before. She lets us research things that interest us and I think that’s how the class should 100% be taught. Very insightful and led a lot of kids to their careers. Almost all of us got 4s or 5s so I think I just lucked out with a teacher on that one

    AP music theory is strange, in my opinion. I took it online. It gives good fundamental knowledge on chords and rhythmic notation, even forced me to learn how to sing properly, but that class falls off when Bach gets involved with all his rules for 4 part writing, and it turns into a vocabulary-fest at the end, plus my teacher consistently made a bunch of errors and I had to get the band director's help the whole time. It's a mess, and a very helpful one at that. I can properly write music now, thanks to about a third-a half of what I learned in there. Assuming you have the right teacher, solid B tier, just the right amount of entertainingly difficult with no all nighters needed.

    • @megzcreates
      @megzcreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      that's interesting! i do think it would be really cool to get into writing music - i've always tried but it's difficult w/o that background for sure. maybe i'll check it out and bump it on the tier list LOL

      @silan4543 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@megzcreates Music isn't bad, if you're good at math. They're conceptually similar, except with music, doing some theory purposefully wrong in the right way actually still sounds good, ie Jazz music. Learn the rules before you break them though, I've hurt many ears that way.

    Seminar for me was a love/hate relationship. Even though I hated all the essays, I love doing research and the class definitely helped me hone that and have a better grasp on how to write dreaded essays for other classes. If you enjoy doing research and you’re pretty good at writing I recommend it, but if you don’t then definitely don’t take it because it will just be hell lmao. Loved the video!

    • @megzcreates

      @@megzcreates I’m currently taking AP Seminar! There’s not really a difference because they’re both synthesis essays, but in Seminar they really go in depth on how to actually write a proper research paper, especially in college.

      @Wriley_Katcoff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree with the honing research skills and learning in depth. I'm doing my ap research presentation in 2 days, and I can say that this course has really helped me understand all of the time and work that goes into writing a research paper, and at the end of the month I'll be able to say I've written a research paper about something I genuinely care about. However, some people in my class despise it with all of their heart and are purposely doing the bare minimum to have a good GPA, not to pass the ap test. It really depends on how enthusiastic a person is about devoting an entire year to one question.

      @@randommonkey4900 APES shouldn't take that much time, as long as you have relatively decent lectures and you make sure to read the textbook to some degree you'll pretty much be fine. Got through the class handily without sweating it too much.
      Of course, the workload will depend on the individual teacher, so not sure how much my experience will be able to help, but the exam isn't insanely complicated and quite a few concepts connect to other classes (like chemistry/biology/math) to some degree which was honestly pretty enjoyable to see.

It's mostly writing and presenting about problems and solutions and you can choose what you want to learn about... good for learning how to debate and a chance to learn about topics you are interested in but I do not recommend it because 95% of colleges don't accept this for credit and the amount of time spent on units is either too much or not enough

      Currently taking AP music theory this year… It really helps if you have a liking for mathematics, as it is very similar, and helps for your brain to pick up on all the patterns. I think what’s most important is to come into class with some musical background and to use the skills and terminology frequently so you don’t forget anything important. I remember my freshman year in normal bio we were dissecting rats(my group named ours Bartholomew)and we had to come in during advisory(basically a study hall)to finish the dissection before the band trip. Let's just say my vision went green and I almost passed out because I hadn't had anything to eat or drink before the lab and the fumes from the mutilated rat weren't being directed to anywhere else.

    Hi! Just finished AP Seminar as a sophomore and we were told that the main benefits of the course weren't actually about the content but rather the skills we would develop like writing research, arguments, synthesizing evidence, looking at different perspectives, presenting effectively, and defending arguments orally. I do stand for that and I really see these skills coming in handy in the future, I did have several mental breakdowns as it was my first AP course, but I love writing and presenting so there were some great experiences.
    On another note I'm thinking of taking AP Bio, Lang, and Psych next year. My school only offers AP Bio but would anyone know how different AP Lang and Seminar are (since from what I've read they seem pretty similar) and would you recommend I self study AP Psych (cuz I'm also preparing for SAT next year) and how could I go about doing that?

    • @baileyyy312
      @baileyyy312 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I took AP Lang, Bio, and Psych my junior year. Even though I haven't taken AP Seminar, it sounds very similar to Lang. Personally, Lang was a lot of busy work, constantly relearning the same writing strategies. A lot of essay writing, too. AP Psych was interesting. The class content itself felt very simple and easy to understand, but in no way did it prepare me for the AP test or literally any of the collegeboard unit tests. It might have been my teacher, but AP Psych can be with really hard or really easy. I took the SAT a few months ago. For that, I would say to focus on algebra and geometry skills (maybe even pre-calc). AP Lang also helped me a lot with the SAT. I would suggest AP Lang to anyone because it really helps you develop strong er writing skills, though it gets quite repetitive at times. For AP Bio, it is one of the hardest AP classes I've ever taken. So, be prepared for that lol

You have to have lots of previous knowledge on how music theory works and by the end of the course be able to sight read and sing correct notes...and theres something else i forgot because I wasnt in that class lol.
