Had the same noise, followed your instructions and found the same part inside the squirrel cage. Thanks for the instructional video. Saved me $$$ by not taking it to the dealer.
Great video, I actually figured out how to change the blend door where that piece came from without removing the dash. Just the airbag, glove box, and fan. Now that I know how to do it, probably a 3 hour fix instead of the 10+ hours Ford quoted me. What a crazy Ford problem. Again, nice video.
Just had the same issue on my 2014. You the Goat! You just saved me at least $300. That mysterious piece of broken plastic was the issue. Thanks again!
I had the same little piece in mine. After research it appears that the blend door actuator is bad and then broke the blend door. If you google Ford part 19E616 you will see the actuator has gears that match that inside gear of the blend door. Since I have a 7 year Ford warranty I am taking it to Ford to fix. I think the part that will need replacing is 19A618. If you listen carefully when you turn the key on (with everything off) you will hear the actuator hunting for its position.
thanks. Is it necessary to replace that part? I had a 5 year warranty and that ended two years ago. I am sure they'll want to charge me an arm and leg for it. thanks.
@@Waylowsurf I had mine fixed under my extended warranty. You don't have to replace it as its just some passenger side air flow will not work correctly. I would try to unplug the power to the actuator just above as I think it may hunt for position. You will hear a slight hum during when you turn key on (turn off fan).
Other people have figured our what the piece is. It's the knob off of your blend door acuator. You have two of them. One behind the info screen and one one the passenger side of the center column on the floor.
Will someone please answer where the plastic piece came from. I have seen two possibilities one it’s from the blend switch actuator, two it’s from the recirculating door , which one is it because all the videos show the part looks exactly the same.
that little rubber part has an effect on AC for the passenger side. I found mine in the winter, but here in Texas in the summer its hot. I have outside heat on the passenger side and AC on Drivers side. There is another blend door issue upstream that is causing this AC/Heat issue. Help.....
The blend door is located behind the Radio (passenger side air flow). There is one on the bottom of the dash that is for the drivers side air flow. That piece that came off and you found in your blower motor is the cap for the gear on the top of the blend door actuator. I started my fix for the heat. The AC worked fine. If you are like me a rarely use the heat then you may try a radiator flush. $100 at the dealership. After I changed the blend door actuator and had the radiator flushed everything worked fine. But it doesn't sound like you have a problem with your heat. I can hear my blend door opening and closing when turning on the AC. Do you hear yours. (Sounds like the spring on a screen door that needs to be lubed). Let me know if this helps.
Ok. Thanks. The heat I’m talking is outside heat. It’s 90 to 100 here in Texas. That rubber part has something to do with a door not closing which is allowing outside heat to enter.
@@silica4565 The little rubber piece is the cap to the screw that controls the blend gate door. Have you changed the actuator behind the head unit? That's the one that controls the passenger side air flow. You should be able to hear it working when you turn your AC on. Sounds like the spring on a screen door.
My ford f 150 2011 started making a loud noise behind the stereo it was a ac blender motor and fixed it but it started coming cool air but a little and I thought it was low on frion so I put some and then the front of a motor sounds like a snake makes a noise is that normal I triad everything
You definitely don't want to overcharge your AC unit. Not being a mechanic I have to ask this question. Are you sure that you had the blend door in the correct orientation (matched the settings on you AC controls). I'm not sure if this can be done wrong (I may have just got lucky when replacing mine). I'm thinking that the actuator moves one way for the heat and the other for the AC.
Exact same thing happened to mine. There was the rubberized object inside. Looks just like yours. It damaged the cage, and I replaced the assembly. Dealership said they'd never heard of this issue. Their remark is not surprising. Thanks for your help.

@@jameswasilchen7903 no everything worked normal for me after leaving the vent in the bottom position when you put your hand through the hole when you remove the fan blower and motor.
I think that rubber part fits on top of the Blend door actuator that's behind the radio. I changed that out as well but just haven't uploaded that video. I didn't realize what it was until after I was done changing out the part. I don't think it's critical as the new part didn't have it. You can do it just remember that you're no likely to break something so pull harder.
They’re ought to be a recall for the problem, and maybe a class action lawsuit. No doubt that part that broke off controls an important part of the air conditioning system. I suppose I’ll find out in the near future what Control I don’t have.
Hey guys, just fyi, if you remove the front mats and pull the carpet and padding back( just pull it back) the squirrel cage blower will come out without having to deform the plastic blower cage. Some are brittle and can break so why risk it ? Also if your having intermittent bad connection with electrical and blower stops and you have to wiggle it or hit it to get it to work, it's likely the harness plug into the resistor on side of the ventilation duct plenum., not likely the plug on the blower motor. It's and easy fix.get new plug from Ford. Oh, and that plastic piece found in the blower motor,? Yeah that's the hinge pin for the door above the blower that controls fresh versus recirculate air. Good luck fixing that ,it's a bitch😅😅
My 2013 f150 blower motor did the exact same thing your blower motor is out of balance I went into a ditch to avoid the guy running a stop sign and my blower motor how did 100% the same at yours does
I found the same rubber part in my 2012 Raptor A/C fan. I am wondering were that came from? If anybody knows, please tell us. That was a really annoying sound! Thanks! for the video.
Mine came from the upper blend door actuator which controls the hot/cold air coming into the cab. The actuator is located behind your infotainment screen.
8 mm socket and short open end wrench. And the back one broke free with wrench and used 6” spring extension and short socket. And comes right out And giggle small twist. And whole thing came out. 25 min to remove and replace
I should add to the video. That being said a dealer actually fixed the problem by trying to change parts that didn't need to be changed. I told them about the problem and they wanted to change out the water pump and the thermostat for about $800. I told them that I just wanted to flush the coolant since I didn't know when it had been done previously. $99 later and the problem was fixed. So now I have heat. And the part in the blower motor came from the blend door actuator that I changed out. So win win with a little bit of luck thrown in for good measure.
I had a similar problem. The heat would work for a few minutes and then you could hear the blend door closing. This would stop the hot air from blowing through the vents. Took it to Ford to have them check it out. They gave me an estimate of $1000 for a new Thermostat and water pump. Not doing that since the vehicle didn't run hot/cold. I did however decide to just have the system flushed. That did the trick. I now have heat. Before this I did notice the driver side would blow hotter than the passenger side, even if only for a few minutes. So, if you haven't changed your coolant in awhile then this could be your problem. $100 Coolant Flush at Ford.
