Yes, he was sitting, the guy was stricken with cancer and still manage to perform, read some where were he also had lost his father 4 days before this performance. What a trooper, may he Rest In Peace!
To add, this concert was in 2002 when James was 69 and Luciano was 67. Sadly James left us in 2006 and Luciano in 2007. Thankfully we have videos like this to re-live their greatness.
Also had a knee replacement.
The Godfather of Soul and the King of Opera.. we may never see or hear the likes of them again. Who says soul and opera can't mix??? Not this music lover. LEGENDARY.

It was Pavarotti's special show, for charity. He would remain on stage while guests like James Brown came out to do one number with himi, then left. Brown was particularly pleased because although he wrote the song, when had he ever heard an orchestrated Italian version? And sung by a great opera tenor? A treat for James as well as the audience!
Luciano has the greatest timbre in his voice. James Brown is so soulful and has that great pizazz.

Two powerhouses under one roof, complimenting each other beautifully! I have not heard any duet performed with Pavarotti that I did not absolutely love! But it is just so much more fun listening to this music together with you!

A friend of mine (female) is insulted by this song. But the highest tribute is paid to women "he's lost in the wilderness without a women or a girl". Also James Brown hit a note with his voice, the third (nothing) at the beginning that sent chills down my spine.

Absolutely fabulous performances by both megastars. Have to say the addition of Luciano raised the level of this song in my opinion. I appreciate your comments re: James owning the song but showing respect to Luciano - we need to remember Luciano has sold twice as many records as James (100 million to 50 million) and it was he who had invited James to join him at one of his Luciano and Friends events.
