One of the best sim videos I have seen. Very knowledgeable, nicely flown and “in character” the entire time. Brilliant! (And damn, MSFS looks fantastic). Thank you for posting this!!!
That scenery is just stunning, great commentary too
Excellent video😎
Early into the flight I wondered why your artificial horizons were both INOP but later on in the video you answered the question🤠
Happy🛩
..luckily - not legally needed for VFR; though it's annoying that they glitched!
LMAO Thank you for pronouncing those names that is amazing. Also I think that might be the most gorgeous plane I've ever laid eyes on.
Machynlleth is Macluncleth (c's at the back of throat) and Tywyn is Tow-win. Really enjoyable video and witty too.
I knew I was going to get it wrong. I spent 14 years speaking with Scandinavian allophones, so my C's are mid-mouthed.. plus.. i'd need a pint of phlegm... 😉
Great video. Still the most fun jet in the sim. Can't wait to fly the JF Tornado through the loop! 🙃😊🙃😁
The Tornado..🤤
Damn this looks cool. I have a Crystal, time to finally fire up MSFS.

Man I enjoyed that. Would love to get kitted out with this kind of stuff but no idea where to start. Help appreciated 👍
If you have Xbox GamePass Ultimate, you'll also have access to GamePass for PC, and MSFS2020 comes 'free' with that, otherwise you'll need to buy it from the MS Store.
If you don't have a joystick/throttle already, something as basic as the one below can get you started, and then you'll soon work out if you want to go down the VR route (Quest3 is very good entry level headset), if your PC is currently strong enough etc.. but you'll be able to do most everything with a basic setup:
www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-T-Flight-Hotas-One-xbox/dp/B001CXYMFS/ref=sr_1_8?adgrpid=1343603775681628&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Ew9AtQjpZae6mPUHH6QQxCvU_dG7RFECf1OxCEEedEyjsrnXz7iMa-QKxtAdsLxep0fXM928TWm0yvNgKjW4Zf4ecvrxaFgxEAKjKgswOacBl_VdKQe7VGRN6wPhtUtQ8vIxpAYtHyOREg8-WjBuN9ocOCJxhO7-haCEhDrLSMbUqW-V484oPsKyfV9rMgulv1_tDCd4YxbEGeeZQobqnIRruOTCFrIL6OTlnhikrSI.8-4SBqSxK0FtqQBvIyr3w4zeXBlGM28PfBdFAbu9lZc&dib_tag=se&hvadid=83975307162511&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=73767&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvtargid=kwd-83975585056124%3Aloc-190&hydadcr=24656_10676145&keywords=thrustmaster%2Bt16000&qid=1705874010&sr=8-8&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc&th=1
Great video, love the subtle humour!
The tearing in the sky/canopy relection is about the only giveaway.
I wish there was a setting for changing the update frequency on the reflections!
MSFS is really next level. I will abandon X-Plane soon.
Good move. Stay away from the narrative saying that X-Plane is more realistic for aircraft behavior, it's a scam. You will find bad aircraft in both sim because you have to analyse it aircraft one by one. It's not a matter of one aircraft is bad then the sim is not realistic. It has plenty of pretty accurate aircrafts in MSFS2020. I'm a pilot myself so I invite you to count how many real pilots say that among the scammers. They are mostly virtual pilots with no clue of the real thing but just parrots of what they eared.
Just horrible to watch with toppled horizons :-(
Good job
I have the Hawk t1 on FS. It's a great plan to fly!
It's one of my favorites on MSFS, the flight model has a good 'inertia' to it. I WISH they'd do the T2..
@tallymouse I find it quite hard to fly!! But I am an extremely casual simmer! But I'd imagine as its quite an old aircraft it's harder to fly?
If you can get it to install without problems, and when you do.. They update it and screw it up again.! I'm thinking of sticking to DCS.
😂
At 9:22 and 7:16 I get the feeling I have heard it already.
It's a glitch in the matrix..
@@tallymouse what did they change??? what did they chaaaaangeeee?
Inop Attitude indicator broke it for me :)
The standby attitude indicator (powered by a vacuum pump system), standby airspeed indicator and standby altimeter are not required to be operational for VFR day and night flights. FAR 91.205 states an attitude indicator is required for IFR day and night flight.
Cage the drift
I enter it by going into the next inlet ( coming from EGOV ), flying over Machynlett to start it. My exit is going high level when reaching Machynlett after the loop, or going in reverse through the same inlet.
I usually do the Playboy > Bala Lake route in from the East, when flying out of Lakenheath or Finningly. However, it's significantly less accessible for people who don't want to mess with time, bearing, speed and distance. ..and, with the Hawk, it just had to be Valley! 😊
@@tallymouse I usually fly the same route you fly in this video but to save time and fuel takeoff and land at EGFD Llanbedr, formally EGOD
@@Gassit I like the approach to Llanbedr.. you can spiral down to final, and it makes for a tidy recovery. I mean, they can't service a Hawk.. but it's MSFS.. so it works!
Great video and not too bad with the pronunciations....just a note though the 'w' in 'Cwm' is infact a 'u' so yes it is 'cum' !😁
I did think about that, but figured I'd get complaints if I said, "turn left before there's cum all over the side of the mountain..", so I erred on the side of caution and went with coom! 😅
@@tallymouse 🤣
Is it just me, or does MSFS terrain look a lot better than DCS?
Frustratingly, it does. I know ED doesn't have the financial resources of MS, but tools like this are available for MSFS:
docs.flightsimulator.com/html/Developer_Mode/Scenery_Editor/Using_The_Scenery_Editor.htm
..whereas ED have really closed up their world-creation to a handful of small 3rd party devs..
Yes an no...from a certain high terrain locks better in MSFS, but at the ground MSFS terrain looks ugly...unusable for DCS, where ground units are part of the game.
@@karlbolt1930 It's true that 'things need to blow up' in DCS, whereas there are no weapons whatsoever in MSFS. That said, cityscapes look better in MSFS, whereas they look very drag-drop cookie-cutter in DCS... because that's how they were created.
Have you tried the Almalence plugin beta? it really does add a lot of clarity in the mid-far distances when looking outside the cockpit.
@@karlbolt1930 I disagree, MSFS looks way better down low in my opinion. There is a lot more detail, variety, better textures. trees look nicer. Google any "DCS low flying" video and compare the visuals to this one. Not to mention DCS cities, they look like they were made in 1 day with completely generic assets (except one or two buildings in some cities).
Whether these visuals "work" for spotting ground units is another matter. But just flying around at low level in DCS is not that fun, because you see the shortcomings of the map at all times.
This is a waste of time comparison! Two different tools for two completely different jobs. If you prefer flight dynamics that are accurate ( plus destructible terrain and enemies)in aircraft that are precisely engineered we fly DCS. If you want AC that behave incoherently but prefer to watch the scenery rather than worry about you aircraft completing a dogfight turn then we fly FS20 usually in a Kitfox. Looking at scenery in a Hawk is a joke.
Needs to have a bunch of photographers on the hills.
More photographers than sheep! 😂
With a jammed artificial horizon you should head back to field and change jets.
Awesome video. That voice, I have to ask, are you Nick Grey's lovechild? 😆
He denies it.. but of course he would!
Is there an actual wind turbine in a TTA LFA?
Amazingly.. yes there is! You also find them in poorly located areas of LFA17, like the planners are trying to bring down jets!
Amazing video loved it thanks new Sub! I was wondering what your open XR resolution was set to? as you only showed one screen of the open XR tool kit in game setting on the other video.
Thank you!
In Pimax Play, i'm set at Maximum Resolution, in OXRT OSD resolution settings, I am NO "override resolution" i.e. maximum.
I know that, early on, some TH-camrs were suggesting that you down-grade the resolution in OXRT to 75-80% to get the fps - but that was before the eye-tracking and DFR firmware was released. Now you can simply run at 100% and the DFR saves you the rest.
what software are you using to capture and make this video?
OBS Studio. The frozen dials turned out to be a setting within JustFlight's hawk code which, when recording via a mirror, would default the cockpit level of detail to LOD1 (external view) instead of LOD0 (internal view), so the dials were turning off, but were live for me in VR. I modified the file, and it will be fixed in future videos.
Ive tried obs studio but it shows both eyes separately, I dont know how to have it stitch the two together with proper overlap. do you know a source of a tutorial do get the result you get? @@tallymouse
Yep AH toppled spoils it
When I watch your film I see the Hawk flying low above the ground quite quickly, but when I fly in the sim at full throttle the scenery passes by much more slowly, I have the feeling
Try the Mach Loop - the valleys are narrow and you're forced to fly close to the walls, and if you mostly fly in flattish landscape, you don't get the effect of peripheral parallax..
Increase your FOV
Super video, could you do me a favor and make a video or post the obs settings you use... because i cant seem to get smooth recordings..many thanks.
I plan to make a "how to capture VR in MSFS" and "how to capture VR in DCS" video in the future..
@@tallymouse got a new SUB ;-)
@@channelvr1293 back at you...
9:26 did it mean to repeat?
No it didn't.. I think I was very tired when recording this!
Thanks for these settings. I see you have reprojection set to ‘depth’ in MSFS. Can you explain how reprojection settings in MSFS interact with Crystal? I have heard bad things about smart smoothing and I see you have that set to off in Pimax, curious how it interacts with MSFS reprojection setting.
Also, for extra credit, can you share your OXR in game settings? (DFR resolution, override resolution, turbo mode, etc) Thanks!!
He does that in this video: th-cam.com/video/pbzW6RMP_gU/w-d-xo.html
I leave smart smoothing set to off in Pimax Play too. As far as I know, the reprojection settings in MSFS are somewhat over-riden by PimaxXR being set to half-rate-lock. However, I left MSFS's reprojection to its default, which happened to be 'depth'

Did you forget to turn on the gyros?
Amazing graphics. Are they generated from satellite images?

Also: buildings are AI generated.. blackshark.ai/solutions/
@@tallymouse Crazy. Cheers!
Gyro's were stuck.
Hmm. The attitude indicators are inop!
7.18 really? Willing to be proven wrong but I'm fairly sure that this aircraft or any other could not trade 450kts for 10,000ft of altitude.
I'm working on a video right now that demonstrates engine loss at 250'AGL and 450kt ASI, pull up and recovery under at a not so nearby runway running on HYD2 powered by Ram Air Turbine alone...
Why was your ADI messed up? Did you forget to align it?
Explanation at @10:28
Ah, okay. Thanks@@tallymouse
Were you supposed to cage the artificial horizon gyros or are they just not simulated correctly?
It was a bug that i've managed to fix. I took off with everything functioning, of course, but when switching out of VR mode to start recording and then going back into VR mode, the instruments glitched.. in future I will just hit active pause, stay in VR and then climb out of my simpit to start OBS studio before unpausing again.

Why both attitude indicators are locked?
Explained in the video.
No artificial horizon?? you will need to squeeze harder when you enter cloud with no AH!!
You'll note I discuss this in the video..
You may will do, but, no one would ever take off with a Gyro or suction problem.
@@user-sm9ee9jq8f Correct.. but then there'd be no video!
I didn't take off with issues, it was only when I CTRL+TABBED out of VR mode to start recording, and then went back in, that the instruments were bugged.
I think I've just located the source of the bug that I had - was an errant setting in Developer Mode causing the backup instruments to glitch-out. So now my attitude indicator appears to be working again when I go in and out of VR mode.
@@user-sm9ee9jq8fBro just watch the video
It's a great video and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep them coming.@@tallymouse
Not enough sheep
Dry stone walls are painfully absent too..
Gauges not working???
The primaries work. It's the backups on the top right of the panel - when I switch out of VR to click 'record' on OBS and then go back into VR, they're frozen.. some odd bug I need to resolve!
