- This video shows all the similarities with Ness' and Lucas' Psi effects in Ultimate and how they are in Mother. I think I got all the references and such they put in the game but if YOU find anything else I'll make another video if I get enough things to point out.

I always wondered why Ness' PK rockin in smash was purple/pink and not red blue and yellow. Your explanation makes more sense.

It sucks being a fan of the MOTHER franchise sometimes, I once saw a comment calling people out for wanting Giygas in Smash. Like, can't a man dream? And another one where someone said Giygas has no physical form and would be a stupid choice. Keep in mind those comments always get tons of likes for some reason.

When Lucas uses PK Starstorm, the background is different from Ness'. The closest match I could find is the background from the final Masked Man fight.

Ness' PK Fire trapping opponents was present in Smash 64, which released 7 years before MOTHER 3. It may be possible Sakurai had access to EarthBound 64 design documents at the time, but I think it's safer to say the similarities are coincidental.
Also, PK Flash's particles change the longer it's charged in Ultimate, directly aping the appearance of its different levels in EarthBound. For example, the weak, barely charged version resembled PSI Flash α, but the fully charged version resembles PSI Flash Ω.

Kenji 64 I thought side-B moves weren't introduced until Melee. Was it his Neutral B in 64, or did he straight up not have PK Fire?
@@CabinetGremlin he didn't has flash, his neutral B was PK Fire.
I think PK fire "trapping" opponents is a happy accident. In 64 Sakurai probably just wanted to emulate how the fire does damage to multiple opponents, and the mechanic of the fire hitting and burning for a few moments was the result.

They changed all of Lucas' psi effects to be blue and yellow with pink glow to better resemble PK love it seems.

I really love how they actually used the Mother series's attack animations for the PSI effects, it's a somewhat subtle reference but a really wonderful one.

4:32 I'd actually say it's possibly the other way around, it's been green since Melee and that came out 5 years before Mother 3.

very interesting! I didn't even consider the possibility that PK Love and PK Rockin were already represented in game. I like to think that it's used for smash attacks to represent their respective characters training themselves to use on a small scale.

And it makes sense because Ness/Lucas didnt know Starstorm, so their allies showing up to "assist" works out nicely!
Ninten could have been a completely unique fighter, charging psi to use shields and lifeup to stay alive while racking up damage would be a very unique character!

@@thalezito-4990 a healer doesn't really make sense in Smash, and would probably be a pain to fight against.
The original Mother/Earthbound Zero doesn't have any PSI patterns and all it appears to be flashing in colors in a black background. Imagine what those patterns could be like.

The Final Smashes may contain Smiles and Tears instead of Battle Backgrounds, but that's even more awesome!

i like the theory that says that ness and lucas have the worst offensive psi in terms of cost to power ratio since they're the least experienced in using psi, so since pk rockin and pk love are just uncontrolled bursts of psi energy, they just use their moves along with their punches and kicks

I think PK Flash being green is actually original to Smash Bros, it just became canon in Mother 3. Ness' PK Flash in Melee was also green, and Melee released five years before Mother 3. If anything, it's Mother 3 PK Flash referencing Smash Bros PK Flash.

Hi Ness main here despite never playing earthbound till recently once I did I noticed stuff like Flash and I also noticed it while playing the mother 3 fan translation its nice to see Ness mains are as hated as people say they are

Actually the background used for Lucas's PK Starstorm is a reference to the final battle in Mother 3, "Battle against the Masked Man" *cries*

They did In fact change his Smash attacks to blue instead of Purple in the final build of Smash Ult. I Main the PK Kids so it’s really nice that they put the visual effects of the PSI Attacks

I would be happy if they substitute Ness's Up B, Down B, Side B, and Final Smash. Since Ness never learned PSI Fire, PSI Magnet And PSI Thunder or PSI Starstorm ._. . Down B could be lifeup, and it would work just like PSI Magnet. The Final Smash could be PSI Rockin Ω. Now for side B, and Up B...I dont know. Since Ness's PSI selection in Earthbound wasnt that big.
(Actually, maybe side B could be PSI Shield, that would reflect the projectiles. its a posibility.)

PK Love is Lucas's True Final Smash. Others are just Standart PSI Attack. But PK Love is Kind of non existing unused content.
Wait, wasn't PK Flash green in Melee, 5 years before Mother 3? I know it was in devolpment during that time but I beleive Melee is it's first appearance as being green. Correct me if I'm wrong plz.

In Earthbound, PK Fire does damage and that's it, exactly like Lucas' PK Fire in Smash.
In Mother 3, PK Fire burns and does lingering damage, exactly like Ness' PK Fire in Smash.

Technically every moves with PSI Particules that Ness and Lucas cast already have pk names written on Official Stretegy book or In Game, for exemple Lucas Up smash is name PK Shash Geyser since atleast smash 4, Ness dash attack in melee was named PK Push, but then was change for PK Hand Stamp in ultimate. My last exemple will be that they both have thier throw named PK Throw. Theses info are easy to find on the internet or in game

I'm thinking M3 made flash green based on Melee, which is where Ness first had it in smash. as to why it's green there, maybe they saw it was going to be green in EB64, or just made it green instead of white to stand out a bit more. Or possibly sakurai or somone else on the team thought of the "pale green light" enemies like the kraken used and attributed it to flash, since those enemies also use flash

Extra thing, Ness' PK Starstorm is slightly stronger than Lucas' because Earthbound has two stages, Starstorm Alpha and the stronger (but ultimately pointless) Starstorm Omega, while Mother 3 only has Starstorm Alpha.
Are we not going to talk about how ness could have survived WoL if he used teleport a?
Also, the reason why pk flash is green, is becauss pk flash gamma (in earthbound) you can see some greenish turquoise?

yes it does but its more like this.
say someone stepped inside the magnet field. and you know how the field pulses and the psi effects emit outwards? The psi effects or lines whatever you call them, every time they pulse out the hitbox activates and pushes the opponent halfway out of the field. Its about as fast as ness' new pummel from the release build of the game.
