I have a suggestion to make, something I picked up in an article I read on the internet…put a sponge or two in your bag of potatoes in your fridge( this works for other veggies too) the sponge will draw up the moisture, this works and I keep a few sponges in my fridge and with my bags of veggies…from a happy potato lover🥰🥰🥰
The green in potatoes is mainly caused by light exposure. It happens when growing them if they happen to become exposed, or when left out on the counter. With that said, simply cut off or peel off the green parts and eat away. As for the roots, simply cut them off and cut out the area right around where the root was and the potato is just fine to eat. Store potatoes in a cool, dry, and DARK place.
Buy a few large buckets. Drill some drainage holes in the bottom. Put a small layer of compost at the bottom. Arrange potato eyes. Water the plants. Add more compost or potting soil as the potato grows. Can be grown on a small balcony. Tomatoes, radishes, spinach, beans, peas and sweet potato in the same way. Easy. Try it!
Potatoes cost $CDN 4.00 for a 10 pound bag and are frequently on sale for half that. You could not grow them that cheap. I can't see lugging buckets of dirt up 3 stories to my balcony!
Dr McDougall, You truly are God sent. I just starting your program and can’t wait to see the results. I’ve been everywhere looking for, what you are helping your fellow man and woman with these last 4 decades. May God Bless you and your family, with long life. Christina A. 😊❤️🙏🏾
HI Thank you so much! This has been so paradigm shifting for me after following a low carb diet, [ which HAS reduced my cravings and blood sugar spikes and crashes, mainly due to having sourdough bread instead of the fast rise store bought white bread,] but this lecture has provided a grounding in solid knowledge as to what the real culprit was, and that is highly refined starches, Potatoes provide complex carbs so ALL GOOD. I am reminded of Rudolf Nureyev the famous Russian ballet dancer who had grown up in poor circumstances, eating only potatoes, but having a superb healthy athletic physique none the less! Shalom to us only in Christ Yeshua.
O I will never get enough of these wonderful talks by you Dr Mcdougall!! Ty so much! I was eating a big bowl of split pea soup and a steamed potato while listening!!! 🤣Ty Heather for all you do also! Love you both!!!!❤️🥰🌺❤️
I love, love, love fingerling or other small potatoes cut in half with dill relish. It’s funny how listening to this in the background reduces my stress and anxiety. Maybe it’s because it’s strengthening what I already know to be true. Maybe because it separates out the bullshit. Idk. Love it.
Since starting my starch centered diet my cholesterol and triglycerides levels have plummeted and my blood pressure is lower. I've also lost weight and I eat all I want. Starch rocks.
Red potatoes, carrots, navy beans (and sometimes red beets) boiled for 1.5 hours and then mashed. I seperately cool diced onyons, garlic, tomato, squash (and sometimes cabbage and/or eggs). I put the mash flattened out on the plate and topped with the vegetables. Truely wonderful.
McDougall is always right. I do weightlifting. In the bulking season, I eat rice and various beans. When summer is approaching, I switch to a potato and cabbage diet, and I get shredded. You can grate cheese (which I don't eat) on my abs.

I lost 45 pounds over a year ago but have been stuck in my 170's for over a year as well. I'm thinking that I slowed my metabolism by not eating enough. Hopefully my new routine will help me to drop weight! Thank you for teaching me about my need for starch! I'm a good Irish lady lol!

I got diagnosed with T2 a couple of years ago and I immediately began to cry because I thought I’d never be able to have potatoes again. I’ve always said if I had to choose only food to eat for the rest of my life, it would be potatoes. I just started Starch Solution and potatoes are spiking the hell out of my blood sugar, but I’m going to stick with it because potatoes are life!! Just need to push through until all that fat gets out of my cells. I wish I knew how long that might take.
@@contrarian717 it took about six weeks but it worked! I got to the point where I could eat potatoes and have very very close to normal blood sugar every time and sometimes completely normal. Once I ate two small baked potatoes and a baked sweet potato at the same meal and my blood sugar was under 90! I’ve since started eating a bit more fat and my numbers are creeping up a little so I’m going to have to cut the oil out again. Staying super low fat is crucial for keeping those glucose numbers down.

I got fat and sick enough I felt like what could it hurt to give this a try. Immediately my life changed. I used to be so constipated the only way I could have a bowel movement was to have a morning enema. I lived this way for most of my life. The first day of this diet I was fixed. Dr McDougal has many videos on colon issues that are right on point. I am so grateful for his work and putting this information out there. I say to anyone just try it and to Dr Mcdougal thank you.
U could have a sluggish or dead thyroid too. Very iodine deficient!
What exactly did you eat to fix constipation ? Did you eat a lot of cruciferous veggies?
Start taking magnesium constipation
When I was living in Jordan, I ate primarily potatoes and it was the healthiest I'd ever been. Now, watching these videos, I know he's completely right.
Today, I ate potatoes, pasta and sourdough bread and was I blown away! I actually played really well today! (Tennis) I didn’t realize that I was getting weaker and weaker over time when I was on my diet.
I have been eating predominantly rice, veggies and fruits and fish. I realized that I wasn’t eating enough carbs!
I have been binge watching all of the videos in your channel, so I tried eating more carbs today. I actually felt stronger!!!
Thank you so much, Dr. McDougall for sharing your knowledge! More power to you and your family and everyone around you!
I love this man’s energy and soul 😂 he is a true rebel and is so passionate about this .
Dr McDougall, you are a godsend! Thank you for all the work you do to keep us healthy!
One of the most persuasive Doctors I’ve ever listened to. Just an amazing teacher. 🌟😄
A 20 lb bag of potatoes is $10 where I live. I ate about half of that in a week… $5/week of food 😂 how can you beat that? And I feel amazing
The healthiest foods are the cheapest. best diet ever for my soccer and pocket. love your work dr. mcdougal

Indeed😊
Truth doesn't change. I appreciate Dr. McDougall's confidence and consistency in his beliefs.
Just picked up the book
The Starch Solution… my Irish and German ancestors would be so proud!
potatoes are my favorite food!!! so glad for this!! purple sweet potatoes and red ones are so good as well.yummmmmm
Thx! Love this!
"I developed a passion" is a beautiful statement and what most people lack for true positive impactful change to their lives.
Dr McDougall, You truly are God sent. I just starting your program and can’t wait to see the results. I’ve been everywhere looking for, what you are helping your fellow man and woman with these last 4 decades. May God Bless you and your family, with long life. Christina A. 😊❤️🙏🏾

HI
Thank you so much!
Love you both!!!!❤️🥰🌺❤️
I eat 1 pound of boiled potatoes every day. I am lean with a normal BMI.
How do you prepare them? What do you season them with?
What do you eat it with.
I love, love, love fingerling or other small potatoes cut in half with dill relish. I roast sweet potatoes, potatoes and cook 4 cups of rice every Sunday then just have salads, steamed veggies and soups etc...with my favourite starches. I sailed through menopause, no symptoms at all and weigh the same as I did in high school. My last bloodwork was "immaculate" according to my doctor. Best healthy eating plan ever, it'sjust back to basics, simple. Good luck!
Same as me... I swapped all bread for baby boiled Potatoes... Usually I have smoked mackerel and boiled eggs for breakfast .. I lost 14lbs in first 6weeks and stayed at 170lb, doing gym Crossfit training 5 times a week... I'm not massive just athletic fast with max endurance
It’s funny how listening to this in the background reduces my stress and anxiety. Maybe it’s because it’s strengthening what I already know to be true. Maybe because it separates out the bullshit. Idk. Love it.
And as he says....the word starch means "strength" in German
I was watching live when this was on. It's a great program!
Thank you. Everybody should know this. More power to you.
Since starting my starch centered diet my cholesterol and triglycerides levels have plummeted and my blood pressure is lower. I've also lost weight and I eat all I want. Starch rocks.
How long did this take?
What's your blood type? I'm type O & been on this diet amost 7 yrs & can't get cholesterol under 190 & tryglycerides are always high @ 250

Do u took any fruit juices since starch diet ?

Potatoes, beans.and rice. I could live on that and be happy.
I do😊
Woefully inadequate!
Already watched this 2 or 3 times. This is just such a good reminder for what to focus on when eating 🥔🌾🌽
Dear Dr.McDougall you have changed also my life. Thank you
McDougall is always right. I do weightlifting. In the bulking season, I eat rice and various beans. When summer is approaching, I switch to a potato and cabbage diet, and I get shredded. You can grate cheese (which I don't eat) on my abs.
I love these videos McDougall imo is genuinely hilarious, in the best of ways.
Amazing simplicity like this can calm your system and synchronize it with your spirit so that you are open, if you so desire, to following a harmonious and healing existence, starting with your most basic function of eating and drinking.
Yes 😊
Thank you Dr. McDougall and Heather for this brilliant podcast. Much appreciation.
Thank you, thank you thank you. What a blessing you are Dr. McDougall your insights and knowledge of health nutrition has saved my life and the lives of thousands of others. God bless you and Mary.
When i listen to my body, i got healthy. For 2-3 weeks after my cancer surgery, i didn’t have appetite for meat or anything. I ended up just eating steamed sweet potato & potato for 3 months straight.

I love your presentation dr McDougall and heather thank you for being a valuable blessing and inspiration with your dad , love the whole food plant based lifestyle so enjoyable 💝
Potatoes will never cause indigestion, it is my preferred food even though I grew up with rice
The Starch Solution has made me healthy. Seven years eating starches and my blood work is perfect. I do love my potatoes & beans stew over rice, THANK YOU!
Such a great lession! Thank you both - may God bless you!

Oh, i looked for your channel and subscribed - very interesting content! Thank you! Good luck!
Thank you for this info. So well researched and yet so simple!
Thank you so much for this wonderful information and your lifelong work !!!
I've been living this way for almost 10 years. I love watching these videos.I say that as I eat lunch of sweet potatoes lentils quinoa red pepper purple cabbage and crazy hot sauce and some yeast and of course turmeric and pepper.
I fully agree 😊
I have been trying to do Dr. Brooke Goldner's healing protocol for autoimmune disease. I LOVE the smoothies. I never get sick since I've been drinking them but I was sooooooo hungry eating only the smoothies plus raw food. Potatoes have saved the day! I am able to eat an abundance of potatoes in addition to the smoothies without aggravating the arthritis! Now, I'm just praying for weightloss!
If you are still adding flax or chia and avocados as recommended by dr Brook, go completely fat free and eat fruit greens and potatoes and you will loose weight ! Promise
If you've got potatoes, you've got a meal.
I’m new to plant base and hearing so much of your dad and I’m ready to order the book. Starch Solution.
Love Dr. McDougall!! Great informative video. Thank you for all you do. I have 2 of your books. Life changing for me.
How are you doing these days? How is your diabetes?
Update please?
@@contrarian717 it took about six weeks but it worked! I got to the point where I could eat potatoes and have very very close to normal blood sugar every time and sometimes completely normal. Once I ate two small baked potatoes and a baked sweet potato at the same meal and my blood sugar was under 90!
I’ve since started eating a bit more fat and my numbers are creeping up a little so I’m going to have to cut the oil out again. Staying super low fat is crucial for keeping those glucose numbers down.
@@tarabooartarmy3654 interesting, thank you
If you have Cuban roots, you know that yucca and malanga are two starch staples of the Cuban diet, so there are variations of the potato around the world that are excellent "starches"
I have Cuban friends & they never eat those. Just fried plantains!
Basic foods, like potatos, along with rice, are associated with long life in MANY cultures around the world! Who does not like these foods? Pharmaceutical companies!
@Milica Skenderovic, Mag. Pharm. Cool! In my younger years, I was a pharmacy tech, then a bio-med electronics tech! I worked in both civilan and military hospitals.
Yes😅😅😅
Well stated!
By the way, thank you for all you do for us to be healthy. I started two week ago and I am feeling so much better. Thank God I don't have any condition but I was feeling so bloated from all the stuff I was eating before "the poison food".
so informative and interesting, cant wait for part 2
I didn’t know seitan wasn’t healthy. I’m still learning from the beloved❤️Dr. McDougall. Thanks so much.
I’d listen to this everyday to detox from keto mindset, those doctors saying carbs aren’t essential.
"Detox"??? Lol!!!
Simple diet. Yes, it's so simple, but I actually eat more variety now than I ever did before Plant Based.
I live in southwest Texas, the desert. Potatoes grow pretty well. Red seem to do best. Yukons do okay as well.
I eat purple yam, eddoes, potatoes, cassava and one boiled egg with Celtic salt.
Love you two and thank you 🙏🏾 😊 you have helped me tremendously.
Respect! Thank you Dr McDougall. Keep saying the truth.
I’ve been eating nothing, but potatoes and an oatmeal based “cheese” sauce for the past 33 days and I’m down 30 pounds with no exercise. I’m going to continue for the rest of this month and switch it up a little the next.
Please do some form if exercise. We need movement. Just walking 30 minutes a day is so good for our mind and body. Enjoy nature.

Chef AJ, who also loves Dr McDougall, recommends eating two pounds of leafy greens a day. Add steamed kale to the potatoes every day, and you’ll have a much healthier diet. Basically, potatoes and oatmeal and leafy greens are my main diet as well.
I tried some butter on Easter. Tasted terrible... salty and oily. It's been years since I've eaten butter and lately have been mentally obsessed... not sure why, but glad I waited till I could try it at someone else's home, and not buy any. Not obsessed any more... lol. Thanks for the message. I'm listening while doing my housework. Read your book, "The McDougall Plan" when it first came out. Sure got me going on the right path. Try real butter w/o salt. Sounds more like margarine to me.

Says "potato" more times in this video than Al Pacino said "f#ck" in Scarface.
I love it when you talk about potatoes there my favourite food
Love this. Thank you, Dr. McDougall. (Just a thought, you've most likely heard of "Spuds McKenzie", I know crown you, "Spuds McDougall"!)
Its not the potatoes, its what we put on top of them!
Love your information, thank you!
This was an excellent presentation; Dr McDougall is amazing ! 💙💯
Since 1st grade, in Armenia, my mother would always feed me and my sister bread with jam or bread with honey for breakfast, and she’d say, “Eat sugar so you do well in school.” I never ate eggs or meat for breakfast, and I was a straight A student. Potatoes have always been my favorite lunch or dinner food, albeit usually made with oils, but still. My husband and children, however, don’t like potatoes unless it’s tater tots. 😒
👍🏽Thanks helpful and interesting. Also intuitive to eat the same food we did as we were evolving. Add in organic whole food and plant based dietary lifestyle along with fasting and psychedelic therapy and immersion in nature.. we have all we need to be healthy when with our Mother Earth💚🙏🏽
What a fantastic man. Thank you, Mr Potato
I have an air fryer... it makes the best French fry’s and potatoes with no oil...
I absolutely love the air fryer. Such a great tool in this way of eating
@@MissAtson so true... especially when I’m trying to get away from fried foods... I’m reading Dr Bulsiewicz book “Fiber Fueled” right now... so similar to Dr McDougal’s plan of eating.. it’s fascinating and makes so much sense..
Onions give off a gas which will cause other vegetables to spoil or to do other things. Storing raw potatoes in the fridge causes the starch to become simple sugars ruining the benefits of the tuber.
Great talk Dr. McDougall.
All plants have some level of toxins, potatoes are especially toxic in the skins, but some are worse than others. Indigenous people in South America eat potatoes with a sauce made from types of clay which effectively detoxify the potatoes and makes them safe to eat.
What, Bentonite Clay? Lmk😊
