It's true for me, too, Ellie! Also, sticking to store brand foods I end up with a bill that can be about $120 a month. I think oranges are the most expensive thing, and really. If I ended up going with sweet potatoes I could make it even cheaper (they have the vitamin C, too). I just have to cook them in a microwave and see if I like it.

@@RiDankulous I have been steaming and microwaving spuds along with some peas and sprouts .... simples ! I am still a massively heavy biffer but at least I know why I am fat and what I can do about it. The only problem is getting other people around me to accept this approach. Its amazing how addicted people are to dairy, meat, processed food, seed oils and so forth.

Me too! I dropped nuts, seeds, avocados, oils, processed foods of all kinds and my food bill is halved. We are ripped off when buying fancy upsold processed 'food' . I have a full shopping cart of veg and fruit for a fraction of the cost and it looks beautiful. My cooking has been simplified. I don't feel like I have to make complex recipes anymore with 25 ingredients! I feel like i have been released from food tyranny! HURRAY! P.S I lost 5 pounds this month too.

Pasta or salad for dinner. I strictly did the McDougall diet for 6 months. Now I do the Pritikin diet. It allows 4 oz. Of lean chicken or fish. And low fat dairy. I have been doing this since 2019. Dr. McDougall; on behalf of all the unhealthy vegetarians who you have SAVED - THANK YOU - God Bless You!
I was a vegetarian for over 35 years and I was fat and miserable. Isn’t this crazy? When I read your book the Starch Solution I was so overcome with gratitude that you dedicated a whole Chapter to the ‘Fat Vegetarian.’ I began your diet that very day. I dropped all dairy, oil, nuts and seeds. Guess what? I have never lost weight so fast in my LIFE! I lost 40 lbs, went from size 14 to size 8 in only 3 months! And, I was post menopause!!!! You have changed the life of millions. Saving us from being trapped in miserable and uncomfortable bodies.
    God Bless you…. 💗💕💗

I got fat and sick enough I felt like what could it hurt to give this a try. Immediately my life changed. I used to be so constipated the only way I could have a bowel movement was to have a morning enema. I lived this way for most of my life. The first day of this diet I was fixed. Dr McDougal has many videos on colon issues that are right on point. I am so grateful for his work and putting this information out there. I say to anyone just try it and to Dr Mcdougal thank you.

The SIMPLICITY of the starch based diet, that stands alone in a sea of 'what to eat' confusion.

Buy a few large buckets. Drill some drainage holes in the bottom. Put a small layer of compost at the bottom. Arrange potato eyes. Water the plants. Add more compost or potting soil as the potato grows. Can be grown on a small balcony.
Tomatoes, radishes, spinach, beans, peas and sweet potato in the same way. Easy. Try it!

McDougaller here - May I even refer to myself as a Star McDougaller?? 😂 I started eating this way 20 months ago. I was obese and had a lot of minor health issues at age 42. Within a couple weeks, I was relieved of my constant headaches, heartburn, acid reflux, dizzy spells, heart palpitations, and aches and pains. Within 15 months I had lost 75lbs and now easily maintain a healthy BMI of 21. What an amazing revelation after decades of yo-yo dieting and trying every other “diet” I’d heard of! I’m so grateful to Dr. McDougall for continuing to share this information! ❤

It's slow going, but I'll get there. The thing that is saving my life right now is plantains, since they are astringent/resistant starch and they help with the diarrhea. Following a "pitta" dosha pacifying diet (Ayurveda), which coincides with the the starch based approach taught here.

The green in potatoes is mainly caused by light exposure. It happens when growing them if they happen to become exposed, or when left out on the counter. With that said, simply cut off or peel off the green parts and eat away. As for the roots, simply cut them off and cut out the area right around where the root was and the potato is just fine to eat. Store potatoes in a cool, dry, and DARK place.

Onions give off a gas which will cause other vegetables to spoil or to do other things. Storing raw potatoes in the fridge causes the starch to become simple sugars ruining the benefits of the tuber.

    HI
Thank you so much! This has been so paradigm shifting for me after following a low carb diet, [ which HAS reduced my cravings and blood sugar spikes and crashes, mainly due to having sourdough bread instead of the fast rise store bought white bread,] but this lecture has provided a grounding in solid knowledge as to what the real culprit was, and that is highly refined starches, Potatoes provide complex carbs so ALL GOOD. I am reminded of Rudolf Nureyev the famous Russian ballet dancer who had grown up in poor circumstances, eating only potatoes, but having a superb healthy athletic physique none the less! Shalom to us only in Christ Yeshua.

The only issue I seem to run into eating Dr. McDougall's recommended diet is that my finger nails tend to get very brittle when I cut out too much fat. Before going vegan my nails were extremely hard. Afterwards they may be half strength. Going low fat seems to really destroy them.
