I hung up the Scarsdale, Atkins, Keto, Mediterranean, Carnivore, and all other high-protein diets. Sure I lost about 10 pounds with high protein diets but the weight loss always stopped and I gained more back even with exercise and compliance with the diets. I finally figured out that the weight was a combo of fat and muscle mass from these protein diets. My goal was to take the excess weight off of my frame due to bone spurs. I started with Pritikin's maximum weight loss diet and now McDougall's diet and the weight is effortlessly coming off! Chunky... that's what I used to be called. 😄

This was an EXCELLENT presentation! Thank you, Dr. McDougall and Chef AJ for making this available. I will be sharing it with the people I care about, hoping that they will make a change before it's too late.
I love this! The only point I disagree on is where he says we have to eat less fruit in order to lose weight. This is demonstrably not the case! About 90% of my consumption is fruit and the rest is vegetables and starches and I am dropping weight and inches like crazy!
@@janetl9984 I see your point. However I really don't know if we need to focus on the amount of calories we consume., but maybe the type of calories we consume. I'm an NHS nurse having worked in the hospitals for the last 17 yrs. Last week I was working on a cancer ward. There was a patient who was vegan and he had bladder cancer. He had been a vegan for 8 yrs. This is the first vegan patient I've met in 17 yrs. Most but not all patients are overweight or obese and don't eat WFPB diets.
I recommend Dr. McDougalls video on Why Steve Jobs Died. It's a very good video and at the end demonstrates being vegan for Jobs is what kept him alive for so long, many years. Being vegan with whole goods is the best.
Great information! Thank you. I always appreciate listening to Dr. McDougall and other experts who know the real facts about food and what we should be eating. It’s just amazing to me that people think the modern day grocery store is filled with foods that are good for us.
Very high quality lecture. I completely disagree with his conclusions about fruits though. He contradicts himself when talking about how excess calories from glucose are burnt off and not stored as fat. Fructose doesn't even raise insulin, comparatively. I've yet to meet even one long-term fat fruitarian in my life. Fruit, starches, and all sugary foods are self regulating and almost impossible to overeat. Believe me, I've tried. You just can't do it. McDougall seems to think the insulin spike will prevent weight loss as well which is more rubbish. With a plant-based high fruit, high veggie, high starch, low-fat diet I've lost over 100 lbs, going from 235 to 135, lean, and have remained that way. Tons of health issues: Gone. There's plenty of people who have done the same or similar. So while I agree with McDougall 90%, I say eat as much fruit as you want, that includes fruit juice, fiber or not. Just as long as it's fresh and homemade in a slow juicer.
I’m glad you stated this lol . This was my experience too . I carefully ate a whole food plant based low fat diet. I cooked all my foods and never ate out. and i was shocked to see how lean i had become.

I love this lecture - its so clearly lectured and with impressive images to illustrate the amazing effects of a healthy McDougall program - 🙏for all the information and inspiration ♥️♥️♥️
Nowadays anytime labeled healthy or superfood gets expensive almost immediately n so poorer sections land up eating cheap unhealthy options...palm oil for example
The academic paper quoted says that the women gained “only” one pound of fat every 4 months. This is equal to gaining 90 pounds of weight over a 30 year period. So yes, eating too many calories and sugar will make you fat.
Agreed, and he’s not saying you should be eating extra sugar, just that they did that in the study. I think he’s pointing out that eating extra sugars aren’t going to affect your health and weight in the same way that eating extra fat will.
The point is they had to over eat 50% of maintenance calories every day for 4 months Just to gain ONE pound of fat . That is incredible , however , obviously we shouldn’t be overeating by 50% .
I’ve just started this (about 5 days in) But I’m heavily craving all my old foods I used to eat chicken, eggs, cheese, fish, bread and butter, milk, trifles, cakes, biscuits What can I do? I’m close to eating these again
He does say pasta is okay, and I lost 75lbs in 15 months following his diet and eating pasta about 2-3 times a week. I think whole wheat pasta is preferable but I eat white pasta at least 60% of the time. Just like he says brown rice is better than white rice but either one is acceptable.
Great presentation. One issue I have though. How can Dr. McDougall mention a "creator" in one part of his presentation then mention evolution in another? To me evolution and creation oppose one another. If the human body was designed as he mentioned, how can some random series of events make that happen? Design denotes intelligence! Is evolution intelligent?
some have always been fat if u eat five massive pizzas a day and dont any work you are going to end up massive its not rocket science years ago people didnt have access to massive amounts of food nowadays you can eat 3 takeaways a day
Oh I’m more than welcome to label myself as obese these days. After becoming anemic just before Covid I packed on 100lbs. It scares me. 100lbs in 3 years. Who does that?! How did this happen?!
do not eat for 16-23 hours a day have a dedicated window for feeding , that increases fat burning 23 hours is extreme end , 16 hours is a bit low but minimum
So let's say you choose 18 hours a day of not eating , that means from 12 noon to 6 pm you can consume food pref. healthy foods like in the video starch and veggies and minimal fruit and nut . Rest of the time is only water drinking.
On second thought being home and eating even small amounts continuously is ruinous. It happened to me when I retired but during COVID there was so much stress too! Best wishes.
If CI vs CO is true then how do these not athletes but up to 3k calories without working out eating lots of raw foods? my guess is enzymes are helping break down those calories.
A fixed metabolism can have significant amount of fat though. And "good fats" do exist. The ratio of MUFA:PUFA:SAT fats make a difference in whether or not your body is headed for hibernation (slow metabolism in torpor) or emerging from torpor. The french paradox is an example of this. They would eat plenty of bread covered in butter (think croissants) and would remain lean (until more recent years). And fats like stearic acid have metabolic benefits. Not to mention the fat soluble vitamins available from healthier fats. I am not pro-keto, but he attacks keto unrealistically. I don't think I'll ever do keto again, but for metabolically healthy people, a short stent has benefits. Basically, a super heavy starch diet is likely very reasonable for metabolically compromised individuals, but if the metabolism is fixed, you can have healthy saturated fats (butter and cacao butter). Avoid MUFA (olive oil and avocado oil) and PUFA (seed oils like peanut, sunflower, safflower, etc). Avoid them completely.
I eat oats for breakfast with water and a bit of sugar and it is satisfying but an hour later I'm hungry again. Same with fruit. It's just not long lasting fuel. So I end up eating peanut butter on toast which is long lasting.
If you eat enough volume wise (eg 2 cups of oats) it will fill you up for 5 hours. I have mine with frozen blueberries, sliced apples, banana, etc + 2 tablespoons of chia, hemp or ground flax seeds, 1 tablespoons of maple syrup for flavour and I soak the whole mixture in soy, almond or oat milk for 20 minutes (or overnight) then heat in microwave
As you've heard in this video, Dr. McDougall does not subscribe to 25% fat. I don't recall any of the doctors saying that they see fat-deprived people with health issues resulting from too little fat!
You need around 10g's of fat a day for your gallbladder. Most plant foods have enough to satisfy that but if you are concerned just drizzle a little cold pressed flaxseed oil on your food, eat some nuts, or put some avocado on your salads. A little fat is no problem, just don't overdo it. 👍
Because they are ignorant. Look up Ornish and Esselstyn. Their heart disease reversal studies where about 10% of calories from fat. People's clogged arteries opened up and lost weight. No other diet has been shown to unclog arteries. They never had hormone problems. They probably say that because a lot of our hormones are made out of cholesterol. But our liver is able to make whatever cholesterol we need.
No he does not. Of course if you are already diabetic you should not be having natural sugars but those who are pre diabetic or obese/overweight can switch to an all vegetable/fruit diet with starches and do light exercise such as walking (with approval from their dr) and the weight will come off. Of course anyone with any serious health conditions should always see their dr before starting any weight-loss or exercise program.
I have an ex. After a month of eating this way they were off their medication and their insulin was stable. Before that they had been type 2 diabetic for over 8 years. The only times issues that were experienced were when they ate white potatoes or white rice. I think that it was just too soon to try to incorporate them into their diet because they were able to eat sweet potatoes and brown rice with no issues. Needless to say they didn't stick with this way of eating because misery loves company. Some people are just hard headed. So they went back to eating whatever and going back on medication. Nine years later they had a stroke. Not something common at their age.
What exactly is she eating? Dr. McDougall specifies what starches you should eat and how. Potatoes are great, but don’t add sour cream, cheese, bacon, etc. Pasta yes, but don’t add chicken or Alfredo sauce, for example. And he doesn’t suggest you add simple sugars except for special occasions, maybe a couple of times per year.

There is no fall in our design. We are designed to run on fat not sugar. And that means all sugar, there are no good carbs. It's all sugar. Get that out of your diet and watch how you get healthy. But you have to be realistic. Like understanding a glass of orange juice is as bad as a soda. Pasta is just like a candy bar.

We had rhubarb it was a treat when mom made rhubarb jelly she'd give me a little sugar I'd dip a dip the rhubarb in the sugar and eat it . Oh it would make you pucker but it sure was good. Kids these days have no idea what they're missing. I was skinny , I didn't like meat, milk , cheese, loved my veggies, loved my potatoes and my mom was the best cook around. She made a potato bread it was so good. She also made a whole wheat bread that I loved but I liked it hot but didn't like it once it cooled. I'm really excited about my journey because it's the foods I love and have missed so much. I'm so sorry this is so long but one more thing I was taking my vitamins last night and watching Dr. McDougal just had popped them in my mouth he turns looks at the camera and says don't take those vitamins their poison and I spit them out into my hand then he says you can take the B12 my wife and I take ours and I say oh okay and I put my B12 back under my tongue . Now you tell me it wasn't meant for me to find him. I had prayed 2 hours before for God to help me that I couldn't do this no more that I had reached my limits I just wanted to die. I give God all the praise and I just want to say God bless you Dr. McDougal for helping people so many have forgotten why they started down the path they had chosen . Thank you Emily for taking time to respond back , God bless you also. My mom died at 50 I lost her when I was 18 years old. I'm 56 now , I lost a brother he was only 42 years old to his health , he wouldn't go to the doctor , he would've been 68 years old . I have 2 other brothers and I have 3 sons I'm doing this to show them this can be done . I want to keep them here longer and healthy . We all aren't small people . People say we must come from the Viking people or something. LMBO !!
(By fats, I mean nuts, avocadoes, olives, coconut) Saute your veggies in water, never oil.
Go ahead and make small changes once at a time. If your family members are supportive that will really help you to get better. Give dr mcdougalls starch solution a chance and please consult any doctor so he can reduce your medication. Good luck 👍🏻
Hope you're doing okay? Would love to know. You deserve to have the best life after suffering so much 😢

I love this lecture - its so clearly lectured and with impressive images to illustrate the amazing effects of a healthy McDougall program - 🙏for all the information and inspiration ♥️♥️♥️

good podcast.
I’ve just started this (about 5 days in)
But I’m heavily craving all my old foods I used to eat chicken, eggs, cheese, fish, bread and butter, milk, trifles, cakes, biscuits
What can I do?
I’m close to eating these again
You may not be eating enough starch with each meal
Thank you !❤️❤️❤️
You are so welcome!
So is pasta okay?
He does say pasta is okay, and I lost 75lbs in 15 months following his diet and eating pasta about 2-3 times a week. I think whole wheat pasta is preferable but I eat white pasta at least 60% of the time. Just like he says brown rice is better than white rice but either one is acceptable.
Amazing!
I would like to be called overweight if I was fat. Just sounds nice to me. I actually am underweight at 102 pounds, five three.
For what it's worth, that's the weight he's suggesting for a woman of your height at @1:13:26 in the video
He's just trying to appease everyone's different opinions on where we came from.
I do not think they are mutually exclusive. Creator is who/what. Evolution is how.
thanks
Very nice presentation!
some have always been fat if u eat five massive pizzas a day and dont any work you are going to end up massive its not rocket science years ago people didnt have access to massive amounts of food nowadays you can eat 3 takeaways a day
Oh I’m more than welcome to label myself as obese these days. After becoming anemic just before Covid I packed on 100lbs. It scares me. 100lbs in 3 years. Who does that?! How did this happen?!
Oil and fat! You can lose it too I am positive❤
Stay off the alcohol that packs on the pounds , empty calories . Walk an hour every morning.
do not eat for 16-23 hours a day have a dedicated window for feeding , that increases fat burning 23 hours is extreme end , 16 hours is a bit low but minimum
Wrestlers are the best athletes btw. Its were strength and athletism meet.
I've never seen a wrestler win a marathon. I've said this a million times, "Don't Exaggerate!!!"
Great video but my biggest concern are the potato 🥔. I tried eating potato but gained a lot of weight. (Not sure if the butter I used helped me or not
Listen to the lecture .. it is not the potato that made you gain weight .. it was the butter .. remove the fat
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson? Look right through me, look right through me ...
So I end up eating peanut butter on toast which is long lasting.
same
Eat more. Fill your stomach up
If you eat enough volume wise (eg 2 cups of oats) it will fill you up for 5 hours.
@@earthsign99 this is so true . I work a physical job and i can work for hours up on hours and not feel hungry
@@earthsign99 I was having one of those oats so simple sachets. It's only 100 calories.
4 slices of pizza? cute!
He was obviously on a diet. I can murder a whole family pizza, baguette of garlic bread and a couple of glasses of coke.
Why does everyone say we need fat for hormones? I've always been told at least 25% of my calories should come from fat. Now I'm scared to go low fat.
@@secundusytp4517seed oils are bad . Just eat fat in its whole form

Wonderful presentation and easy to understand! 👍 Thank you!
He is the guy who says sugar helps diabetes !!!
What about spiking your insulin? insulin is inflammatory. sugar is sucrose and fructose and it's linked to poor health. Your carb diet confuses me.
He's not referring to refined carbohydrates, which are linked to poor heath.
i dont want to be TUBBY. no more oil etc.
I want to be a strong healthy starchivore but my karma just wont allow that. I remain a disabled and useless starchivore.

my roommate it's 90% starch and sugar, she's fat ?????

Ps a starch only diet might as well be a candy bar diet. It's all sugar and will kill you like any other sugar.
You’ve got it reversed…until that epiphany moment, no one will change a mindset.
If we are designed to run on fat when the 7 years of famine happened during the time of Joseph in Egypt why was corn (starch) stored instead of fat?🤔
Amazing !
