This man has saved so many lives. He deserves a Nobel prize. When I switched to a whole food plant based diet at 58 years old I knew that what this man is saying is true. At 71 years old now I am healthier than I was at 30 years old. No pain and no pills. It is so sad that that more doctors are not trained in this knowledge.

Why do people say WFPB physicians deserve the Nobel Peace Prize? I hear that over & over. Not only is it not origional, it is incorrect. The prize usually goes to a new discovery that the scientific research community was unaware of until the researcher discovered it. Dr. McDougall was fantastic - a generous man who contributed much to society, yet I don't think he deserved the Nobel prize.

Wow, I wanted to become an RN at one time. I worked a Candy Striper and a CNA. I saw what the nurses did. They passed meds and charted about it all shift. I had to report any ill effects for the nurses. The residents suffered with different side effects, even nausea or vomiting and I also had to let the next shift know. Some of the residents even refused to take their meds because of how they made them feel and they weren't all dementia residents. So I decided to stay a CNA/HHA/PTC, helping care for the residents and trying to keep them comfortable after the meds. Thanks again doctor for the book and the video.

Oh wooooooow. This was powerful. Especially the slide that showed "Do not eat fake meat/cheese" 😳 I didn't think it was that bad, but it's a good reminder that fake meat and cheese is also not WFPB because it's processed. (Isolated proteins from soybeans combined with other chemicals)
Edit: he does mention later that burgers made from beans are okay.

Going vegan has been great for me. I sleep better, and I have have more energy. And I lost 50 lbs and stopped taking diabetes pills over the past five years. My doctor was amazed. He told me the fatty deposits in my liver were gone. He said he warned many of his overweight patients they were killing theirselves with bad diets but they just didn’t seem to care. Depends on your genes. Vitamin D is metabolised in three different stages. Depending on how close your genes are to the equator, the second and third stages of the metabolism vary in efficiency. If your ancestors lived near the equator, you will not make Vitamin D very effectively. Dark skin in Canada? A ship wreck without supplimentation. Northern genes + supplementation? Long term toxicity.

I am on Mcdougall's diet 4+ years. I did it to lower cholesterol because the 'no sugar' thing didn't work for cholesterol being a bit over 200 mg/dl. Well, Mcdougall's diet did work. cholesterol dropped to 125 mg/dl (ideal), blood pressure is normal after coming off blood pressure medication. Resting heart rate that was also controlled by the blood pressure med came down to 73 beats per minute. I lost 50 lbs FOUR YEARS AGO and kept it all off.

The guy had me in the first half.
To recommend grain is not bad in principle, oil is not needed by humans, but humans need nutrients. And to demonize food supplements is guaranteed the wrong approach to a vegan diet.
Vitamin D no longer causes bone fractures, the test subjects were all old and received over 100,000 Iu (if I remember correctly) in one shot. This gave them such a surge of energy in the next few days that they went out much more and thus had statistically more accidents. But the vitamin d per se was not responsible for that. Dr. Greger has analyzed this study.
It is true that one should not take vitamin a, e, beta carotene as a food supplement but a solid dose of about 3-5k iu of vitamin d and at least 50mcg of methylcobalamin should be taken by every vegan. In addition, according to his diet, there will eventually be problems with calcium, zinc and vitamin e. You need nuts for a balanced vegan diet, not only if you want to gain weight. You can certainly live for a year, but at some point the body has no strength without the missing minerals and vitamins.

Please address our ancestors didn’t eat 3x or more a day. They often had to go some days without food because they had to hunt for it. Today incorporating delayed eating times is good … every 6 months or so fasting for 24 to 48 hours is healthy. Honestly, how else can we lose our fat. Solution is very difficult to do if we constantly keep feeding every day.

I fell off of this type of eating and definitely feel the difference in the way I had felt before. So I’m back on this way of eating and praying that I succeed for the rest of my life. When Dr McDougall spoke about doctors just feeding you pills instead of trying to solve and fix the problem hit home. Drs have been trying to find out what my illnesses are with a confirmation that I have RA/OA and fibromyalgia. To be honest I’m not even sure that’s what I have. I definitely don’t want to put drugs in my system, but at this point if I don’t I can’t even function daily and I’m in a lot of pain. I guess what I’m wondering is if this way of eating could help someone like me and if anyone else is struggling. Is there a certain things I should be eating or vitamins I should be taking? I wish I had Dr McDougall at my fingertips lol he’s so very knowledgeable!
