I'm a Bahá'í and every year we fast for 19 days in the month of March (no food / drink from sunrise to sunset). This year, being on the McDougall diet, fasting has been just a breeze. It has flown by so fast, without any cravings at all and in the evenings I just eat my starchy foods and vegetables. I have oatmeal with banana and apple in the mornings. I couldn't believe the difference it made what types of food I eat. It changed the experience to a much more pleasant one :-). And I'm fully vegan since 8 years, but I guess vegan junk food is not much better for health than animal foods. Thank you Dr. McDougall.

Always good to revisit the importance of potatoes in my diet. Sometimes I stray off into more unhealthy food but need to just keep it simple. Plus they are so low cost and easy to make in the insta pot. Than you Dr. McDougall and Mary and Heather.

You should only get diet advice from a real Ph.D in nutritional biochemistry with awards and honors and or a Nobel Prize with a long term track record of being right such as Roger J. Williams, Frederick Gowland Hopkins, Fred Kummerow, George H. Whipple, William Parry Murphy, Edward Adelbert Doisy. All 6 would say the same that Linus Pauling said that meat, poultry, fish and eggs are good for you in moderation and that dairy is ok in small amounts if you like it and are not allergic to it.

@@StanDupp6371 Been there, done that. My blood work was horrible. High Cholesterol, triglycerides yada, yada. Switched to a whole food plant based diet and within a couple months ranges were perfect. Plus I shaved about 30 minutes off my marathon times. Wife is happy also and no need for Viagra. Just did a heart scan and they said nothing detected in scan. My risk for a heart attack is 1% in the next 10 years. Weight is normal. Not bad for a 50 year old male. I think I will continue to listen to Dr. McDougall thank you.

@@havasuheat99 What you said is just your own short term opinion unless you can claim scientifically how the 7 people I mentioned lived to mid 90's and 100's and stayed super fit, slim and healthy by consuming a bunch of junk. 90% of people age 50 and under have a zero CT Calcium score since Calcium is a late stage progression. Trump at age 72 had LDL of 143 mg/dL, had a CT Calcium scan of 133 but never had any health problems, he has a BMI of 30 but no diabetes, perfect stress test scan and perfect blood pressure reading but he has no Nobel Prize in health so he might not make it to age 100.

I love that Dr McDougall cares so much about wellness, we appreciate you! I have a comment on today’s video only as you have regularly said that eating meat would be disgusting eaten plain, which I agree with. I am a no junk food vegan, but in fairness we must admit that we too, most times don’t eat our healthy vegan foods plain. We add salad dressings, gravy or sauces, etc, any number of “cover ups” to our food. So we do need to be fair so that we don’t alienate people or sound as if we aren’t doing the same thing. Our food is healthier than meat for sure, I think that is the message we should stick to.
Thanks and keep up the good work!

Buy yourself a 10lb bag of potatoes, check them for green spots, russet is good, red potatoes are great, any potatoes are good to eat,but better to get the big one's.
They raised the price on just about everything, but it's still alot less you have to spend compared to the price of what people spend on their food so they can live half dead or in a daydream.

Thank you Dr. Mcdougall. You're the only doctor that has ever made sense to me. You're plain-spoken, logical, and you hit the nail on the head when you talked about the medical conveyor belt. I saw it happen in my own family and I had to put the brakes on it for myself. My current physician knows nothing about nutrition and the only thing he asks is how many servings of fruit and vegetables I'm eating each day. When I mentioned following a starch based diet he said it's a lot of carbs. And he's Asian! You have helped me more than any doctor I've ever paid and I thank you for it.

I am a 72 year old , plant based for 5 months , wondered what Dr. McDougal's thoughts on something. I recently had red bumps appear on both feet, was put on antibiotics, went to see a foot doctor. He expanded both feet, found nothing, checked blood count, was good. My opinion is I had done a foot mask ( the peeling type) and I think it infected my feet, what do you think? The doc is talking bad blood flow and is recommending a vascular doctor

The potato was introduced to Europe exactly in the year 1560 by Pedro Cieza de León. At first it was considered a botanical eccentricity so kings and aristocrats used it to beautify their gardens. Although pre-Columbian civilizations had cultivated and consumed potatoes for 8,000 years, the Spanish conquerors initially decided to reject them as food. At first, the “exotic” tuber was paraded through European courts as an ornamental plant and it was not until the 19th century that it became a staple food.
