Honestly the most inspiring part of this entire video (besides the great photos!) is the fact that you handle entire wedding days with just 1 prime lens. I would've always gone with zooms just out of fear of missing a shot...this really makes me want to try shooting primes only!
I wanted a cheap easy to travel with camera and lense and decided for the Sony A7 IV AND THE 35 MM 1.4 GM. Looking forward to shooting our trip to Tasmania.
Thanks for the video, really insightful. I’ve been using my a7iii and the 35mm1.4 since the beginning of spring last year and it’s such an amazing combination for weddings. I definitely feel like I could shoot a whole wedding just using that combination! … you’ve made me want to try out the a7iv now👌🏾

Great video! Stoked to see you working on the 35. Incredible pics. Nice to see how you get on with the focal change from the 24. A7iv is honestly a huge upgrade to the A7iii and it has me way more excited to use the camera, all the little details and speed / responsiveness. Cheers!
Finally a new video from you, really appreciate it. My YT app had this dot next to your channel few das ago, to indicate that there is a new video, but there wasn't. Until now. Very interesting to see you using a 35mm instead of the 24mm that we know you for.
glad to see you back! the 35 GM is really making me want to list my 35 1.8 sony, but I just can't justify it right now. Looking forward to your upcoming vids and also the new preset additions.
I love how you show your photos while talking to the camera, also the information that you are giving out about gears are amazing and very informative.
Hello Chris. Great to get a new video from you! I think I remember you saying you change between taking photos then to video on your camera during a wedding. Could you talk about or maybe make a video about when and why you swap from photo to video? Maybe call it how to shoot video and stills with one camera at a wedding? Do you sometimes shoot a wedding alone and do both photo and video? Maybe this is a bit of a niche subject because other people have figured it out but for us newer to weddings it might be really helpful. When I want to find out something I always check your channel first. It took me a while to find your channel so I think you could still get a lot more subscribers in the future.
This came at the right time.. I’m just getting started and I have this exact same combo and have been having decision paralysis tryna figure out what lenses to get to be a hybrid shooter and develop my own style
Glad you’re back Chris! I missed watching your videos and seeing your beautiful photos from New Zealand. I totally agree with you about the 24 vs 35mm. Can’t believe 11mm would make such a huge difference. I had to readjust everything after I switched. But so far loving my a7iv and 35mm. Just missing the dramatic wide look of the 24mm. Sony should make a 24-35 f1.4 zoom 😂 Can’t wait to see your setup video. Cheers
Great to have you back mate. We got the A7iv as soon as it came our here in the UK. Shot two weddings so far and love it, especially as a hybrid shooter. I'm resisting the urge to get the 35mm 1.4, still have the 1.8, but I will probably give in later this year.
3:58 Formatting speed is different because the a7iv "quick format" isn't wiping the entire card. It's just marking the directory as free space. This also means file recovery is possible with the a7iv "quick format". Traditional Sony camera card-formatting removes any possibility of file recovery.
Good to see you back Chris! I managed to pickup a couple of A7IVs, and about to shoot my first wedding of 2022 with them. I agree about the screen, I shoot from the hip a lot too, and its taking some getting used to. This year I am aiming to be much more of a hybrid shooter at weddings, so eager to see your take on that. Cheers.
As always I love the way you present your story! Would you mind making a video about how to set up and work with both video an photo as a hybrid wedding photographer? I do wedding photography, but need a little push to get into the video game. Thanks
I have the same combo (Sony A7IV + 35mm 1.4 GM) but my pictures are nowhere as sharp as yours. What am I doing wrong? Did you have any kind of a filter on your lens? Please make a video of your workflow, starting to end. It will be very helpful. Thank you.
Hey Chris I just found your channel and I love it! I got the Sony A7RV and I'm trying to pick the 24mm or 35mm 1.4 what would you do for a perfect combo! I`ve watching about crop mode and its good. What are your thoughts? Thank you!
Hello Chris. I saw that in most of the photos you use the 1.4 aperture to shoot. When do you close the diaphragm? Your photos are incredibly sharp throughout the frame, regardless of the diaphragm you use. Sorry for my english.
Hey Chris thanks for your videos they’re great! And you’re an amazing photographer. I’m really considering this combo myself, however I would like to see a video with the breathing compensation on with the 35 gm just to see how much does it correct it. Thank you!
Hey man, always loving ur work! You have been a big inspiration for me. Do you think the a7iv is good for wedding videos also and can it handle the low light situations? I do mostly photography but sometimes videos too...

Hello I’m new to Sony and now looking to get 35 and 85mm but I’m stuck between sigma art and Sony GM. Could you give me some input and what way you would go now?
Have a A/IV myself, tried with 35mm f/1.4, 55mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8, 90mm f2.8 and there are definitely focus-issues. The camera is not permanently front- or back focusing, but even with Eye-AF and AF-C, the selection-algorithm fails. As soon as there are strong (often vertical) contrast areas, or lines the AF prefers to focus on those parts in the frame even with the green focus frame clearly being on the eye. So, the camera is dead sharp, but it "internally" selects wrong parts for adjusting rather than the one in the focus frame. Took some selfies on a tripod, focus clearly on the eye, but often "real internal" focus was on the the black and white hairs of my beard, sometimes back focusing, sometimes front focusing. Hairs distract the camera, but also gray lines on buildings, or vertical borders of doors or windows. It's clearly a flaw in the internal focus selection logic. Had lots of portraits with different very good lenses with slightly blurry eyes but only with this camera (others work fine with same lenses). Hope they come up with a firmware upgrade soon
How come you have 35 1.4 and 55 1.8? Isn’t both almost the same focal length? I have the 55 1.8 but want to upgrade it to 35 1.4 instead. How are you using your lenses?
Why would they not confirm it if it’s an issue? Read the comments. I hadn’t even heard it was an issue and I’m not having the issue cause I’m not taking photos of people at minimum focus lol with the amount of people talking about it I’m sure it is an issue but again I don’t know why you’d want to take a photo of someone so close

Hey Chris, you mentioned that there was something coming for those who have purchased your preset pack. Was it sent via email? I dont think i got anything
It hasn’t been sent yet. But it will be by email yes
hi, can you verify the eye af issue on the a74? where it shows that it focuses on the eye but when you zoom in post the eye lids or eye brows are in focused (front focusing)
I never even heard of this issue and haven’t noticed it but I’ll try and report
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer I had to return my first copy because of this. My second copy is much better but still will miss a locked in moving target 50% of the time. :-(
What happened to your a9 mark 2?
Did you not get on with it?
It’s fine I just sold it mostly cause it doesn’t have picture profiles for video so I can only really use it for photo.
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer thanks for the reply, that makes sense if you are doing both. I brought an a9mk2 just waiting for a74 now here in the UK.
Hey Chris, if you need back up photographer down in Queenstown let me know :)
I am into wedding but I am not that good yet.
Thank you
Hey Chris, Which Camera do you like better the Sony A7IV or your a9 ii?
I much prefer the A74 overall
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer Cool - Are you replacing your A9 ii with the A74?
@@mrivkinr A9ii is already gone
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer can you speak more about the why’s of IV over a9ii? I use my a9ii as my backup to my a1 so kind of curious! TIA
I have the 24GM and really struggling if I want to sell and get the 16-35 (been interested in vlogs too lately) or get the 35GM since I’ve never owned a 35 and everyone raves about it
Lool I have the 16-35 gm and I want to get the 35 1.4 instead. But I still need wide lense but I can’t justify having both 16-35 and also 35 prime. It is a headache! Are you getting the 16-35 just for vlogs?
I love my Sony A7S III...I did not realize how much faster the A7 IV is.
New body - Panasonic in da house? ;)
A74 Been out stock for a looong timeee 😭
a7iv vs a7Riv?
