    I avoided buying any lenses for over a year - that changes as soon as this bad boy is released. This one is a game changer and a must own for me. 35mm is the PERFECT walkaround focal length, and Sony figured out a way to give us a lens that isn't a brick for daily use. Great review.

    24 mm favours the environment and 50 mm favours the subject. This was one of those aha moments for me. Thanks Jason!

    • @LtDeadeye
      @LtDeadeye 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Traditionally, for stills, both 24 and 35 would favor the environment as it tells a story about where the subject is. 50mm is more of a balanced emphasis (neither here nor there yet it is the most versatile prime focal length. 85 and greater is more about who the subject is rather than where the subject is.
      Popular prime lens kits usually include either a combination of 24, 50 and 135 or 35 and 85.

    • @AnxiousEducator
      @AnxiousEducator 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      yeah that's pretty subjective
      My prime kit set uses a 24mm a 50mm and an 85mm. Having used 35mm a lot I just don't like it that much. I love 24, 50 and 85. I'd say 24 favours environment, 85 favours subject and 50mm is in between

    • @BiscuitLazers44
      @BiscuitLazers44 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dikasochirin sure! the main problem I’ve noticed is the weather sealing isn’t the best, mine has collected quite a bit of dust in it compared to my other lenses, nothing that would ruin image quality but it bothers me when I glance into it. Also, it’s quite disproportionate for a mirrorless, a very large 50mm indeed. Lastly, the autofocus is quite loud, and it has a smooth metallic texture that is much less scratch resistant than the textured metal of G-masters. All nit-picks, other than that it has the best image quality I’ve seen from a prime other than the 135 g-master.

      I have both lenses and the Tamron is very close when shooting wide open at f2. It’s an awesome lens. The 35mm GM is stellar at all focal lengths and is much easier to carry around. As far as video, i’m getting way better active steady shot and breathing compensation on my Sony A7IV. The GM will also be awesome when I finally get a Sony A7RV. It’s a one stop difference, so double the light. I don’t think you’ll use this lens for fiction or commercials, but it is unusable for anything like that, every time you focus the frame zooms, it’s called breathing, and it’s the worst I’ve seen from any lens.

    Great! Now seeing this gem out I can't unsee the lack of a 24mm 1.8 G lens, lighter and heaper than the hero GM version and making a great company with the upcoming 16mm 1.8, as the 20mm is not everyone's taste

    How does this compare to the 1.8 Sony 35? Resolution, contrast, chromatic aberration?

      No. And honestly if you’re using the 24 for film, it gets cropped with active steadyshot @ around 1.1x, getting you 26.4mm

    Does that shot of the Tamron 17-70 APS-C lens hint at a review coming? Or comparison to the 16-55 G?

    Hello Jason! AN absolute fan of your videos! Great job! I had a question, been considering getting an a7c for the updated color science, improved autofocus and no video record limit ( stills basically the same as a7iii) but my only concern is the handing of a7c.
    Are the 85mm and 35mm and 24mm lens small enough that we can grip the a7c without rubbing the hands ???
    Thanks you!
