    I avoided buying any lenses for over a year - that changes as soon as this bad boy is released. This one is a game changer and a must own for me. 35mm is the PERFECT walkaround focal length, and Sony figured out a way to give us a lens that isn't a brick for daily use. Great review.

    Taiwan filled preorders on the Sony 35mm f/1.4 GM at the beginning of Feb. I've had mine for 2 weeks and love it. If you go budget and buy the f/1.8 lens, never pick up the GM lens and use it. You'll hate yourself for not spending the extra bit of cash to buy it. Is it worth twice as much as the Sony 35mm f/1.8? Most definitely!

    The last time I was shooting Sony I was using the Sigma 35/1.2 and loved the image quality, but it was an absolute tank. This lens might be bringing me back to a 35mm prime. I'm not totally impressed with the 35/1.8.

    • @BiscuitLazers44
      @BiscuitLazers44 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dikasochirin4116 sure! the main problem I’ve noticed is the weather sealing isn’t the best, mine has collected quite a bit of dust in it compared to my other lenses, nothing that would ruin image quality but it bothers me when I glance into it. Also, it’s quite disproportionate for a mirrorless, a very large 50mm indeed. Lastly, the autofocus is quite loud, and it has a smooth metallic texture that is much less scratch resistant than the textured metal of G-masters. All nit-picks, other than that it has the best image quality I’ve seen from a prime other than the 135 g-master.

    24 mm favours the environment and 50 mm favours the subject. This was one of those aha moments for me. Thanks Jason!

    • @LtDeadeye
      @LtDeadeye 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Traditionally, for stills, both 24 and 35 would favor the environment as it tells a story about where the subject is. 50mm is more of a balanced emphasis (neither here nor there yet it is the most versatile prime focal length. 85 and greater is more about who the subject is rather than where the subject is.
      Popular prime lens kits usually include either a combination of 24, 50 and 135 or 35 and 85.

    • @jarrod7465
      @jarrod7465 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yeah that's pretty subjective
      My prime kit set uses a 24mm a 50mm and an 85mm. Having used 35mm a lot I just don't like it that much. I love 24, 50 and 85. I'd say 24 favours environment, 85 favours subject and 50mm is in between

      It’s a one stop difference, so double the light. I don’t think you’ll use this lens for fiction or commercials, but it is unusable for anything like that, every time you focus the frame zooms, it’s called breathing, and it’s the worst I’ve seen from any lens.

    I just got this 35 and the fe 24mm gm . Loving them both. Also looking at the 135 gm or the Sigma Art 135 . Probably stick with Gmasters even though I’ve liked the image from the Sigma 35 f/1.2 Art and the Sugma Art 135 f/1.8 . Do you think someone should get this if they have an APSC camera like the ZV E10? Lens are naturally expensive and this is for $1300-$1500. A regular E mount lens would be for about $600 - $800. For a few more bucks I could get the GM. Also it's likely I'll upgrade to a full sensor camera. Not right now but in the future and I would already have a full sensor lens and wouldn't need to try and sell the APSC lens. Watchu think?

    Love to see you still using the A7C. Do you think that there will be an A7C follow-up video? I'm currently trying to decide between the A6600 and A7C.

    Good review but why everyone now slander Zeiss 35. I think it is still very good lens with specific character. Chromatic aberrations can easy repair in LR and can only be seen at 100% zoom. Today you can buy it used for around 800 Euro.

    Could you do a comparison of the 35GM vs the Tamron 35-150 @ 35mm?

    • @rickt.8866
      @rickt.8866 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have both lenses and the Tamron is very close when shooting wide open at f2. It’s an awesome lens. The 35mm GM is stellar at all focal lengths and is much easier to carry around. As far as video, i’m getting way better active steady shot and breathing compensation on my Sony A7IV. The GM will also be awesome when I finally get a Sony A7RV. The 61mp will definitely show the difference in both.
