I love the posca PC-1MR 0.7mm a bit thinner than the posca pen she used, and more like a fineliner type. Shows up really good and a little bit pricey but definitely worth it. Probably will eat a little bit of paper but only if you draw a really big spot.

Both. I've had some degrade on me a few times. Usually worst if you have it exposed to sunlight, which was my fault admittedly. A lot of modern inks are vastly superior to the inks of old times, which is where you see the worst degradation. Oil paint pens are not designed for cotton based paper. the paper absorbs the oil. Same thing for the rayman pen. Use a non porous surface and the paint will be super vibrant.
Thanks so much! I'm testing the supplies how I would use them, so its important to know how they will look on cotton paper for me. But that is good to know!

The oil based pen is for writing and labeling plastic things! I use them a lot in chem lab to label chemicals and containers and stuff. That's why it doesn't show up too well on paper
Maybe the actual conclusion to this is that you need more than one kind of white pen. A gel pen for fine dots and lines, and a juicier gel or paint pen for larger areas or that is compatible with your go-to paint and markers. I have the Sakura gelly roll and I don't like how it looks. I think in the future I will buy the Uni-ball Signo Broad, both the Uni-Pasco and Sharpie water-based paint pens, and the Sakura Glaze. Might get a Decorese for kicks.
No, it's not lmao Railroading is a term exclusive to fountain and dip pens which utilize a flexible or semi-flexible nib. It's a specific term for a specific kind of mechanic. What you're referring to is simply a flow issue, as a ballpoint pen cannot physically railroad. A nib-based pen is different, since it uses 2 tines and capillary action to apply ink to paper. When the tines spread too far without sufficient ink flow, the ink does not spread between them creating two distinct lines, separated by white space (or whatever color your paper is) rather than a single line. THAT is what railroading is. It is NOT the same thing as ink appearing darker or being more concentrated along either side of the stroke, or the ink running out midstroke. Again, a ballpoint pen is physically incapable of railroading as ballpoint pens do not utilize capillary action. Please don't throw around terms you clearly don't understand. Thanks!
Keiss In communities that discuss ballpoint pens in depth, it's definitely commonly called railroading when the ball pushes ink to the side and the middle is thinner. The term probably evolved from its original usage meaning with fountain pen nibs. Since these are two completely different types of pens, it should be less confusing when using the same term to mean different things
I use Marquee matte sample paint (its the kind you find at home depot). For like 4 bucks I have enough paint that will last me a while. I mean it's literally *paint* but it's paint made to cover marks on walls and such and cover up things and not be transparent.

Other than Amazon, I'm not sure where you shop for pens at. But, recently after realizing that I needed to replace some old art supplies with new ones, I found this website called Jetpens.com. I spent about 25 dollars on close to 20 items. (bumped up the item count because if you spend $20 on your first purchase, you get free shipping) But, all of my pens and stuff were amazing and relatively inexpensive considering how much I was buying. This website is seriously the best. I get at least 85% of my art supplies from them and they are always amazing!!!
All this time, I've been using the Bic Wite-Out Shake'n Squeeze Correction Pen and _hating it_ for its constantly variegating flow, wet-and-dusty smearing, weirdly raised texture, and the physical pain it causes to have to switch between pressing in like a knife and lightly grazing like a butterfly. Turns out, white gel pens exist.
I’ve been trying to make my painters paint pen work but it’s killing my soul and my drawings. I’m so happy this video exists because I need something better. Badly.
I actually liked the tissue paper effect it gave on the paper tbf. But yeah it's unfair to rate it so bad considering this isn't it's intended purpose x

She didn't test white out, haha, or Dip pens with that Dr martin ink. I think watercolor artists just try to leave the white space unpainted, rather than paint over it.
I used gelly rolls for a long period of time but became increasingly frustrated with how they give up over alcohol ink, and the continuous railroading. I still use it because its finer than uniball but the opacity and quality of the uniball is far superior in my opinion!
the water-based sharpie can also be found with a "pointed" tip if you find the extra fine ones! you dont have to go for posca if you want a fine paint-marker
That’s probably why that one pen wasn’t working too good at first, it probably had some wax residue on it. I had pens with wax on top and that happened.
that’s interesting. that’s almost how highlight (the makeup) works sometimes. some of them have a layer that doesn’t seem as shiny / bright / blinding, but once scraped off it is amazing.
If you ever get a chance try a Molotow fine paint marker. Doesn't dry or clog as much as the cheaper Sharpies and more opaque than the Posca. Signo is also what I preferr for a gel pen but I find paint markers are more consistent.
I think the ramay may be for like a black board like the ones you see outside restaurants with the specials and such. It looks like the markers we used to use at my family's old restuarant
That moment when you hope to finally find a better/the best white gel pen bc your own kinda sucks but than you find out that the one you have is already the best. Disappointed but not surprised
I don't know if you'll see this, but I have a tip for the small breaks in lines when using pen. I would recommend pens with small holes somewhere on the opposite end of the tip or the barrel. The air getting into the pen itself is said to help ink flow, which is why some pens include that detail.
As someone who draws and enjoys adding white highlights to drawings, I found this very helpful. I took a screenshot of your end result to remind myself which pens are best although I’d also narrowed down to the same you did in a far less organized fashion. Thank you so much! 😍👍🥰
Best white pen comparison I've seen! Thanks very much. You made my choice very easy without a lot of trial and error. We need more right-to-the-point, informative YT videos like this. Nicely done!!
Mabye the discoloration is because the pens are waterbased and the dyes and pigments mix into it cuz the pens are reactivating the paint. But this is my theory 😂
Waffles I don’t KNKW if you know but store posca pens upside down. Cap on the ground because if you don’t hey get really watery! And it won’t fade like you were seeing
ella conover I don’t think that’s their point. The original commenter just meant that they’re soooo bored that they’re watching someone swatch white pens (because they’re bored and look at this as interesting)
Oh my goooossshhh!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I’ve had four different types of gel pens, and they all are either, streaky, quick running out of ink, not opaque enough, or just not even work! Now I’ll kno for sure lmao
The expensive ones did the worst! I'm so gonna get the uni-ball singo broad and the sharpie water-based paint marker. Also I might get the sakura glaze pen. Now I got to figure out where to get these or if I should just buy them online. Thanks for helping people see which ones worked the best! :3
Why not get a tube of white paint/gouache and a liner paint brush? Then add highlights with the brush. I'm sure there's a better chance at finding good opaque paint in a decent price range than a pen and you'd get more uses out of them!(My pens always dry up super fast even though i keep lids tightly on) :D
That's a good suggestion, but I am still not confident with paint outside of watercolor and I usually make very fine and small details which I usually mess up on with watercolor anyway haha. But thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep it in mind. :)
I know this is a very old video, but if you get the Sakura Classic in a size 10, there is much less streaky-ness, and personally for me it shows up on all of my mediums (alcohol markers, watercolor, crayons, and brushlettering (usually with waterbased colors). I can also color over it with an alcohol marker and it looks fine, just a tad bit lighter.
Just here to possibly make you smile, I love your art, you're one of my biggest inspiration, art-wise & in general 💜 Hope you have a great day, keep making such great art & videos 🌈 (Even tho this video doesn't have a lot to do with artworks, thought this was something that had to be said 😊)
Looking in stores, the only one I was able to find was the Uniball broad and was actually surprised with how well it worked but I was convinced there would be a better one out there that I couldn't get my hands on lol. This was helpful :)
You can use a correction pen because it works well, it's cheap and it is so smooth I also use the Sakura gelly ball pen too but the correction pen has more pigment 😁 So I recommend you to use a correction pen 👍👍👍 Love your channel 😍😍😘😘❤️❤️
man I was really excited for this video and was not let down, I agree the signo is the best one to buy and ive been using it for a couple years now. I dont know if you knew this but there is actually a gelly roll bold which I could only find in packs on amazon for 6-8 dollars, but I think its definitely worth a try. The gelly roll bold is a lot more watery than the original gelly roll and the signo, you can actually wipe it off after a couple seconds and it almost disappears. The gelly roll bold is pretty good and I would use it over the original but not over the signo. I dont really like gelly rolls but theyre good if you run out of signos or smth. Also it would be really cool to see you try out different paint markers! I will say though that in my experience the paint markers will be in a locked glass case in art stores so be prepared to converse with a store person for a while. Also using paint markers and gel pens on water based markers is really different than alcohol based markers. I have some tombow water based markers and the whites really dont work well on a lot of them ESPECIALLY red. Both paint and gel pens seem to not work well on water based markers and I kinda recommend just getting opaque white in a small package as it will work on most if not everything! sorry for such a long comment just putting my thoughts out there, also I wanna say I watched the whole minuet 30 ad bc it was gordon ramsay, maybe that will give you some money to buy the paint pens lol
great test. Gelli Roll also makes a pen called souffle that works much like the glaze. goes on clear, dries white. Love the Posca for bigger areas. It will reactive watercolor. Going over it a second time will brighten the marks. Thanks for an informative post.

yikes buster
All this time, I've been using the Bic Wite-Out Shake'n Squeeze Correction Pen and _hating it_ for its constantly variegating flow, wet-and-dusty smearing, weirdly raised texture, and the physical pain it causes to have to switch between pressing in like a knife and lightly grazing like a butterfly.
Turns out, white gel pens exist.
I’ve been trying to make my painters paint pen work but it’s killing my soul and my drawings.
I’m so happy this video exists because I need something better. Badly.
It says on the packaging for the Raymay marker that's its for blackboards :) Maybe that's why it's got such a weird texture
Yes! It is not for paper.
That makes sense, that's kinda of what I assumed
I actually liked the tissue paper effect it gave on the paper tbf. But yeah it's unfair to rate it so bad considering this isn't it's intended purpose x
That explains why it looked like chalk to me
You should do a video of you drawing with your worst art supplies that you have! 🤩
or old ones lol
Omg yesssss
I don’t think she has any
@@lizalmicnizal3450 clearly not, she bought the sharpie oil based paint marker hahaha
I bought one of the ones u have in the start. And I just bought not knowing it was good lol

Her: I want the perfect pen
Game: the perfect pen has not yet been found
Her: I will test them all
Outcome of it all: this video
She didn't test white out, haha, or Dip pens with that Dr martin ink. I think watercolor artists just try to leave the white space unpainted, rather than paint over it.
I used gelly rolls for a long period of time but became increasingly frustrated with how they give up over alcohol ink, and the continuous railroading. I still use it because its finer than uniball but the opacity and quality of the uniball is far superior in my opinion!
Hawks Art Same.
I just do 2-3 layers with gelly rolls. I only use them for like highlights or an outline, so it's ok
Gelly Roll is certainly a good cheap option!
I use 5:21 bcs I found it on the floor in my school lol
Pastel_ Demon ooh mood
is that not how everyone gets their art supplies?
Omg i found one of those on the ground of my school too

Thanks. I got both the Gelly roll and this one.

the water-based sharpie can also be found with a "pointed" tip if you find the extra fine ones! you dont have to go for posca if you want a fine paint-marker
Yes! I have it and always use it. When I saw her with only the fine one I was like "Nooo! There are finer ones you can have, it can be finer!"
BakaMat02 can it be osofine?
I use my local white crayon :')

@Martin Pigeon kneaded earaser?
Snow Print sameee 😂
FUN FACT: the tips you get on the top of new pens are actually wax
That’s probably why that one pen wasn’t working too good at first, it probably had some wax residue on it. I had pens with wax on top and that happened.
Cheese interesting idea
It’s very possible, I keep that in mind with my pens with wax
Princess Corndog Boy you just be fun at parties (I'm just kidding that actually is really interesting)
spacedout lol
that’s interesting. that’s almost how highlight (the makeup) works sometimes. some of them have a layer that doesn’t seem as shiny / bright / blinding, but once scraped off it is amazing.
Why am I even watching this I don’t do art 😂 😂 😂

Some of the pens might only work on certain paper or less absorbent surfaces
Good review! I like that she sticks to business and doesn't get all goofy like some of these reviewers. Thank you for that. Keep it real.
Since the pens are mostly waterbased, maybe they are reactivivating the watercolors and that’s why they don’t show up as well 🤷🏼♂️
But what about the markers? Why do they show through if they're alcohol based
Ксения Старцева
Alcohol is soluble in water
If you ever get a chance try a Molotow fine paint marker. Doesn't dry or clog as much as the cheaper Sharpies and more opaque than the Posca. Signo is also what I preferr for a gel pen but I find paint markers are more consistent.

Did someone call? (☝︎ ՞ਊ ՞)☝︎
I think the “Sharpie oil based” pen isn’t meant to be used on absorbent things maybe try it on a mug 🤔🤔
I think the ramay may be for like a black board like the ones you see outside restaurants with the specials and such. It looks like the markers we used to use at my family's old restuarant
Apparently it is glow in the dark as well
May i know what is the black notebook you are using?? :O
Lucinda 250 I don’t know what the brand is, but she got it in a ScrawlrBox a few months ago, and the box had a bunch of metallic pens and pencils.
Lol I thought of the Death Note

That moment when you hope to finally find a better/the best white gel pen bc your own kinda sucks but than you find out that the one you have is already the best. Disappointed but not surprised

Lol, I'm in the UK too
Yep
yeah, thats common sense, but she probably said it either out of habit or because she didn’t know the exact “translation” (?) 😂
Darn. I possess no gel pens.
ShoutLatios you might some white gelly roll pens in a nearby crafts store like joan's or michael's
You can also use white paint with a fine brush if you have it.
ShoutLatios I just use a white out
It’s YelePanda LIFE HACK
i posses many but 0 whites ;-;
Next you should make a video about the best black paper to use white pens on!!
haha, that would be...interesting. XP
uniball is the best, most affirdable brand when it comes to pens, i love their products, they're amazing
I love how you wore white nail polish
I think whenever your pens do that weird thing where it skips ink, is called railroading. :) Love your videos 💕

I have no white gel pens... GIMME!! xD Love your channel and your art ❤️
I don't either and I wish I did, I have a silver one but it doesn't work as well
SAME
Waffles I don’t KNKW if you know but store posca pens upside down. Cap on the ground because if you don’t hey get really watery! And it won’t fade like you were seeing
i was storing it horizontal, I'll keep that in mind!
DrawingWiffWaffles alado you hace too shake it a lot before using it. it still fades a bit but not as much
I love how she painted her nails white to the coulor of the pens! 😁🤭🥰
Im actually so bored im watching a person compare *white pens*
yourgucci dad I don’t even draw
*same*
@ella conover dude *chill* out
@ella conover ok
ella conover I don’t think that’s their point.
You can use correction pen too 😂😂 jk jk
That might actually work though 🤔
lmfao I did that a year ago
Delyn LOLZ Yes!!
@It’s Hailey omg i love her! she's so amazing
My friend use those. Lol
We could'nt find any white pens in our local store.
The expensive ones did the worst! I'm so gonna get the uni-ball singo broad and the sharpie water-based paint marker. Also I might get the sakura glaze pen. Now I got to figure out where to get these or if I should just buy them online. Thanks for helping people see which ones worked the best! :3

Your swatching and testing are SOOOOOOO satisfying to watch lol. ❤👌🏾❤👌🏾❤✏🖍🖌📒
**me not worrying about if they work on markers**
**realizes I’ll be using alcohol markers**
nice pfp B)
@@tsykas ty B)
Funnily enough, I've been trying to find out what white pen to get for highlights haha xD Thanks! :D
Same, ahaha
Why not get a tube of white paint/gouache and a liner paint brush? Then add highlights with the brush. I'm sure there's a better chance at finding good opaque paint in a decent price range than a pen and you'd get more uses out of them!(My pens always dry up super fast even though i keep lids tightly on) :D
That's a good suggestion, but I am still not confident with paint outside of watercolor and I usually make very fine and small details which I usually mess up on with watercolor anyway haha. But thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep it in mind. :)
Garnet When making little white dots, toothpicks work as well, I've found 😂 just dipped it in gouache and boom
Just here to possibly make you smile, I love your art, you're one of my biggest inspiration, art-wise & in general 💜
Hope you have a great day, keep making such great art & videos 🌈
(Even tho this video doesn't have a lot to do with artworks, thought this was something that had to be said 😊)
Successful, i'm smiley now. I also see your avatar. hehe ahh youre so nice!

I'm really glad I made you a little happier 💙
Thank you for replying + calling me nice, here's a thank you cookie 🍪
Ok are we all just going to ignore her BEAUTIFUL handwriting?
Looking in stores, the only one I was able to find was the Uniball broad and was actually surprised with how well it worked but I was convinced there would be a better one out there that I couldn't get my hands on lol. This was helpful :)
So nice seeing you testing all the white pens out there! ☺️
I use the Signo Broad and it does its job 👍
You can use a correction pen because it works well, it's cheap and it is so smooth
I also use the Sakura gelly ball pen too but the correction pen has more pigment 😁
So I recommend you to use a correction pen 👍👍👍
Love your channel 😍😍😘😘❤️❤️
The raymay is a board marker. You use it on boards
man I was really excited for this video and was not let down, I agree the signo is the best one to buy and ive been using it for a couple years now.
I will buy the one that looks best
Thanks for the help
This is helping me to choose gel pens to get for my art thank you so much
great test. Gelli Roll also makes a pen called souffle that works much like the glaze. goes on clear, dries white. Love the Posca for bigger areas. It will reactive watercolor. Going over it a second time will brighten the marks. Thanks for an informative post.
