The drainage racks built into a cupboard is genius 😳

    • @TessaOswin

It is as long as the however the door opens means using the sink is still easy. When washing up you are likely to keep the door open so having one you’re likely to hit your head on would be annoying.

    • @NamMun

Dish draining closet is one of the best inventions from Finland to me!

@@TessaOswin The cupboard above my sink is perfectly positioned for me to put my iPad on the bottom shelf so I can watch things while I wash up :D The door opens so it’s flush to the wall, so it’s (mostly) safe from me hitting my head! Though I have just realised that if I copy this draining cupboard idea in my own kitchen, I’ll lose the iPad shelf, which would be a tragedy… maybe I’ll keep my iPad shelf, and convert the next door cupboard above the draining board into my drying cupboard 😀

Yes! Totally agree! They have it on ikea in some countries. I'm from Sweden and here we don't have it. I am just now getting a new ikea kitchen and I found it on Amazon, for 4x the price but still worth it.
Originally it's meant to have that shelf bottomless, so that water can drop down in the sink. I decided to not make it that way, cause that would prevent me from having spotlights integrated underneath. I thought it was important to be able to have lights under the top shelves, especially over the sink to get light when doing dishes.
There is something to put in the cupboard to collect the water dropping, so I'm hoping that will be enough to prevent the cupboard from getting water damage.
How did you do it.? Did you also keep the bottom of it?

@@liahk1000 You don't need to remove the whole bottom of the cabinet.
I hate the IKEA drying racks because they butchered our invention.
In our 50's Finnish apartment our cubboard is half cut out from just the middle to accomodate a V-shaped first drying layer (shaped for plates ect). To mention: our cabinets are on the longer side (sideways) and thinner in depth than some newer cabinets might me. They are original vintage cabinates and are worth way more than new ones in the long run.
My grandma used to have the same cabinet style and she had a long spotlight under the cabinet. It fit there just fine.
I find the modern styled drying cabinet solutions to be utter garbage.
Just take the whole cubboard innards down, put some wooden blocks to where you want your layers. Then make the actual rack yourself or have one made custom (very very easy make) and have it dipped in rubber. This is so the metal wire/rod won't scratch the plates while you still have a little bend.
If you get the bottom layer to have a V-shape then cut out a cabinet bottom in a way that the V can still peek out about 3cm. This way you can hang cleaning brushes to the rack.
Second layer is usually just straight for cups and whatnot. We have a third layer made from wood that just holds some crapand random things used for baking and painting (I use water activated paints).
Spotlights can then be installed in the space left behing the V-cutout.
Don't go and buy retractable versions of these racks. Never do it! If that breaks it's way harder to fix. With our version it's pretty much foolproof and fixing would be very very easy (basically just soldering it back up if it breaks in half).

I love every single thing in this kitchen design. The marble backsplash, the tight and precise wall of appliances from the sink to the dishwasher to the clothes washer. Also integrating the pillar into the design is perfect. The island is exactly what I would want in my dream kitchen, not to gush over-dramatically.

It’s a shame IKEA don’t care about their customers. They could be a really amazing company, but we had a kitchen fitted nearly 2 years ago now and they made such a terrible mess of it, drilled through a water pipe in our wall leaving us without heating in winter, then ignored emails and wouldn’t sort our complaint out. We had to pay out of our own pocket to do the plumbing even though IKEA were supposed to sort that. 2 years later it’s still not solved. We had units missing handles and they were just totally incompetent. We have continuously been trying to sort this out and IKEA are proving no help whatsoever. There’s no contact number or way to communicate with IKEA and comments arw turned off on nearly all their social media channels which suggests to me that there are many customers in a similar situation to us. As an IKEA specialist I would be really grateful if you could tell me the bast route to get this solved.

I love that your kitchen is small by, I guess, Western standards. I hate large kitchens.
Personally though, I hate open plan kitchens. I like being able to close the door to contain smells, noise, heat and clutter (cause no, I don't get to my dishes and cooking mess right away). Where I live now, no one has a closed kitchen, and I can't wait to buy my own place so I can close it off. A friend of mine recently renovated her whole flat, back in my home country, and instead of a regular wall, she went for a glass one. It's great, cause it contains everything that needs to be so, but it let's a lot of light in her dining room. Besides, her kitchen looks really cool, so it's nice to be able to see it :)
