Just realised I forgot the oven 🥸
    KULINARISK, 3/5 stars
We bought the version with a steaming function instead of pyrolytic cleaning, and that's my biggest regret. Somehow I find it really inconvenient steaming with an oven, it gets so foggy that you can't see when your food is done without opening the oven, which lets all the steam out...
Otherwise, I love cooking with the convection mode, the food always turns out really delicious. But a tiny complain I have is that the default setting is on a fan mode, which I never use (I find fan cooking makes the food turn out more dry) so I always have to press extra buttons before I get to convection mode. The timer is also really annoying to control on the touch screen and difficult to explain in words.
Overall, if I could choose again, I'd go with an oven with pyrolytic cleaning and without a touchscreen!

What finish are your gorgeous base cabinets? Closest I found is:
SEKTIONBase Base cabinet w/3 fronts & 4 drawers, white Maximera/Voxtorp walnut.
I rewatched vid. You clearly write oak but my store in the states doesn't offer that color. I think walnut is too dark for this light & bright calm kitchen.

Hey! Yes, unfortunately Ikea US doesn't have Voxtorp fronts in oak 😔

Great explanation of the Pros and Cons of this particular configuration of your IKEA kitchen . I always find that your videos are so well thought, planned and executed. And they really offer the best explanations of the 5 W's (Who, What, Where, When and Why of a story and a lot of How too) that I ever watch on YT. You are really gifted storyteller (and I make TV documentaries for a living!!). Thank you for helping me get to know which IKEA kitchen items to get!

The fan is what makes a convection oven different than a conventional oven. The air becomes heated and circulates over the food, air-frying in a way. With the fan off it shouldn't be any different than baking in a conventional oven

I appreciate you sharing your opinion after using the kitchen for a year. It's nice to get an honest opinion. And...I have been looking for an expandable dish rack, mine has seen better days. I have looked on different site trying to find one, I believe the one you have is pretty much the same as the one I purchased years ago. I got mine from a store in the US - Bed, Bath & Beyond, no out of business. TY

(i used to be unable to properly utilize drawers until marie kondo, I now really hope to be able to to have more drawers in my kitchen too) (I wish it would be more normal to offer at least prefab 80 cm deep kitchens, which would probably improve the experience of many ppl with a long kitchen where an L configuration is the obviously choice. a friend of mine has this, she detached the oven from the stovetop and put it on the other side where she kept thing sat 60cm & gained SOO MUCH SPACE for all the heavy stuff, but nobody offers this ready made, we would have to hire a kitchen maker.. it might still happen but ...sigh.. only if I win the lottery or finally find a way to publiSh some of my writing for much better pay than I expect ..... and soon)

IKEA appliances are either Whirlpool or Electrolux (at least in Europe). You can get the exact same ones in any appliance store (at a higher price), you just need to Google it first, which appliance corresponds to which. That being said we also had an IKEA kitchen in our previous house and I loved it. I chose the prolific oven and was really satisfied with it. The cooktop had some problems a few months after we got it and was fixed rather quickly by the service provider. After that it was amazing! Powerful and quick to respond (sometimes too quick according to my partner 😅).

The Kitchen does look lovely and I agree the lack of upper cabinets does leave the kitchen light and airy. It was very good value but it is a shame about the quality of the appliances. I'm sure Ikea could do better with those. As for the dishwasher cutlery shelf... I have a dishwasher that was double the cost of the most expensive Ikea one (I used AUD and Aussie suppliers to check) and I have the same shelf and the same problem with the knives.

As someone who used to have an ikea kitchen, I feel your pain about the appliances: 1) Our dishwasher also didn't clean very well, and was quite slow. 2) The freezer drawer of our fridge had these built-in dividers that made it impossible to store large items, like pizza boxes 3) the range hood did next to nothing 4) the microwave was WAY too over engineered, to the point where we had to teach all of our guests how to use it. And worst of all 5) The stove was TERRIBLE. It took forever to heat up (cooking eggs took like 20 mins) and the heat controls were super slow to respond, making cooking significantly more frustrating and harder to do well. The apartments we had before and after that place had super old and rudimentary appliances by comparison, but it shocked me how much better they were in function and design.

We also have an ikea kitchen (~5 years old) and agree that drawers>>cupboards. We don't have any upper cabinets either and have no regrets, but did stack two cabinets on top of each other to create a floor to ceiling cabinet which hides the boiler. We didn't buy the applliances from IKEA, because a) I heard the quality was not great and b) we prefer freestanding appliances. I think the kitchen stuff in Ikea is the best quality they sell. I once had a PAX wardrobe and the damn thing almost killed me when reassembling it after moving house because the quality was so terrible but the kitchen cabinets are solid as a rock.

A very helpful review! It verified what I feared about certain IKEA appliances. Currently I have older IKEA kitchen cabinets with separately bought appliances. The appliances all work well despite being a bit older. The kitchen cabinets (discontinued FAKTUM series with plain non-glossy white fronts) are very sturdy and even after after +10 years of daily use I have no complaints about them. Even the drawers hold up pretty well. 10/10 would recommend.
I am thinking about getting a vent (?) like you have as an add-on, so I'm glad this one got a good review from you! :)

About your dishwasher-- I live in the US in an area with very hard water like in Germany. I had to try several different pods before finding one that worked best with hard water-- maybe google for German brand recommendations. Also before starting the dishwasher I run the sink on hot water to ensure that the initial water coming into the dishwasher is hot. It helps! Its so irritating having to rinse dishes-- why even have a dishwasher???? I hope you find something that works.

I am also very happy with my IKEA kitchen, which I have had for many years. I did choose to buy my appliances, sink, faucet and countertop elsewhere, however, because I had some misgivings about the quality. I so agree about having lots of drawers and pull-outs instead of regular cabinets with just shelves, where it is hard to see what you have.

@@cloudyhills I measured the fridge beforehand (one of those intermediate size 122 cm high ones) to make sure it was the same in dimensions to the similar ones sold at IKEA. It sits inside a tall cabinet with shelves on top. This was about 14 years ago. Recently the motor gave out (grrr) and I just got a new one installed this week and it also fit perfectly. The dishwasher is not panelled, it is just a regular dishwasher where I unscrewed the top to fit it under the counter. The gas stove top and oven were secondhand and they fit in the IKEA cabinet just fine. And I just have a stainless steel sink, so it simply had to be set into the countertop. I guess it is tricky if you want a panelled dishwasher, but exact measurements are the key.

We rent a studio in Paris during our vacation with a ikea kitchen and appliances. We can notice the difference with our house appliances. The build-in oven design is very neat but impossible to use when you haven read the instructions manual. The glass cookingtop is not as uniform and powerful than our Jenn-air. I use the regular cycle of the diswasher and I often found little trace of soap granules on top of the cups. I thought it was the dishwasher soap, a brand, that i wasn’t familiar with… but maybe it’s the dishwasher. We have a bosh at home and even the quick cycle does a better job. What really annoyed me is the sink is not enough deep making a lot of 💦.

I got the Valbildad 2 zone induction hob (also available in 4) and it works very well. The 4 zone also comes in white which is a plus if you have white counter tops. My least favourite thing is those bins in the drawers. Lid does not stay open when you are trying to put stuff in it (eg scraping things in, need both hands and lid keeps falling closed), and you can't open the top to empty it unless the handle is at the front which means the handle falls down and collects all the rubbish as you are emptying it. If you put the handle at the back you can't open the lid. Very bad design.

Thank you for sharing so honestly (also re dishwasher, our dishwaser got so much better with a different detergent. sadly germany is firmly in teh grip of "finish" which imho is nowhere near as good as the fairy dishwasher detergent for example, which -sadly we "have" to buy in bulk whenever we are in France, (also do remember that many modern dishwasher tabs actually loose effectiveness after a 3+ months, thsi might might might be a way to have a better experience with teh dishwasher without replacing it (the knife situation musst be super annoying, for us it is the korean spoons that we favor, which are not "accomodated unless be slant them excessively)

This is gorgeous and I am blown away that the countertops are laminate. What brand? Where did they buy these? That is beautiful. And I actually like the recessed drawer pulls I love the look of them and also the practicality because for some stupid reason when I am working in my kitchen and go to walk away pockets on my sweaters get caught on the handles of the cabinets and drawers and you know you start walking and all of a sudden you're pulled backwards it's crazy. So even though the recessed handles maybe a catch-all for crumbs and such I can still see that they would be very advantageous.

A beautiful kitchen! I have the same range hood (in black) and I hear you on the toggle switches! Something about using it just... sparks joy! 😄 I went for a non-Ikea stove and the small Medelstor dishwasher, which works okay so far. Good call having Ikea install the main part of the kitchen for you; I made my dad do it and while he did a great job, it took him several days and there was a lot of swearing involved. 😅 (Saved a lot of money, though) Good call on having lots of drawers, too. It's more expensive, but well worth it for making a kitchen so much more comfortable to use, imho.

I'd never heard that about contractors finding Ikea kitchens frustrating, but it totally makes sense to me! A lot of the more frustrating episodes happened when my dad did something he thought was obvious, but actually you had to read the instructions quite carefully. E.g. when you have to assemble the drawers in slightly different ways according to their location.

The reason you aren't getting clean dishes is because of the dishwasher tablets. These skip the "pre-rinse" cycle. You would need to use at least two tablets per wash, one inside the soap compartment and one outside. Alternatively use dishwasher powder. TH-camr "Technology Connections" did a long video explaining this in exhaustive detail. We had the same problem as you before we switched to dishwasher powder instead of tablets.

Our kitchen is about 3.2x2.7m. Our layout is an L shape, on one side is the dining room that stretches about 3.5m and on the other side the living room that stretches about 4m. Hope this helps!

Such a lovely kitchen and I very much appreciate your comments and feedback on your IKEA kitchen .. We're considering have one installed ourselves. I have a quick question, please. I love that you didn't use a tile finish for the splash back behind your cooktop, but used paint instead, may I ask the type/name of the paint you used, please? 🙂

The regrets for our Ikea kitchen are also the stove and oven. Ours is simple Ceranfeld (whatever that is in English 😅) - it has only one area for a big pot and 3 for tiny pots. The rest is taken up by the controls. Which are so clever designed, that our cat can turn on all cooking areas by walking across the surface 😂 but as soon as 1 drop of water or oil hits the panel, everything shuts off. We always have to use the kid-safety feature to cat-proof the stove by locking it. 🤭

Yes the stove is so frustrating! It's so sensitive yet not sensitive at the same time 🙄

Thanks for sharing this video! 😊 Do you have any regrets about having an open kitchen vs closed kitchen? Is it easy to maintain the kitchen and living area with frequent cooking?

    • @cloudyhills
      @cloudyhills  ปีที่แล้ว +2

I love love love having an open kitchen! When we had a closed one/separate room for it, we tend to let the mess like the unwashed dishes or organizing of groceries get piled up, since it was hidden away and we could avoid the room. Now that it's open it's in our faces so we do small chores every day that doesn't feel as overwhelming.

Hey, it's from StoColor www.sto.de/s/p/a1F2p00000NwG7UEAV/stocolor-titanium-ase We just did 2 coats of the paint, which happened to match very closely to the white on our walls so we could get away with just painting the area we needed.
Any dirt or food splashes can be easily cleaned off with a damp cloth, warm water works best. Make sure to clean it within days at the latest! And that's about it~

@@cloudyhills can you paint on top of it if the paint doesn't match the colour of your walls or does that make it less effective? Is there any possibility of tinting it a colour that you like?

I wonder if the inner drawers insinde larger drawers feel annoying. So you have to open two drawers every time you reach out for a spoon, right?

    • @cloudyhills
      @cloudyhills  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It really doesn't bother me, but I guess it's a personal choice 🤷🏻‍♀️ I like that the utensils don't take too much space and I have more height to stack plates!
