Yes, I lived in apartments very similar in NYC when in my 20’s and 30’s and didn’t like the less-beautiful and not-chosen aspects. Yet, was so happy to have found a place with more than two rooms, and near the subway and a park ...looks like it’s not so different between US city & Russian city
I think many people do not understand a reality is that most people do not live in glamorous, ultra modern, luxurious homes. The important thing is not what your home looks like but the happy memories you make when you are in the home. ^.^
True. Every time I get frustrated about how my place is not up-to-date and shabby, I remind myself that I HAVE a place. Heating, bed, shower, stove, washing machine, internet. A lot to be grateful for, actually.
I agree, TV is unrealistic they never show how people really live, it gives everyone a bad perception, of what real life is all about. I moved out my trailer due to the sewage coming back up into my house, the smell was atrocious and dangerous. I also had to retire from my good paying job, since I couldn't afford to take care of myself or anything due cost of living. So I'm working part time, just to cover my bills. I also had to get medicade to take care of my health.
How very right you are! But I got to say there are neighborhoods so rough here in the US that I swear to you they can't give apartments away in those places! Oof!

Dear Victoria, I am an American, born in 1948 so, I will soon be 75, a widow and newly retired public school teacher in Florida. Thank you so much for showing us your apartment and thank you so much for your positive attitude. A good attitude and making the best of whatever situation you are in will allow you to have a joyful life regardless of things not being just or even near to what you really want. Many people have really nice houses in America and many people do not. Lots of people who have great houses, cars, vacations, etc. are very unhappy and only want more. Some of the most joyful and positive people I know do not have a whole lot but they enjoy their pets, friends and just life in general. A good attitude is everything!! ♥Kathleen. P.S. Literally, and many affordable housing around the world looks very similar to this as well. Many of my friends live in council flats here in London that have a similar appearance, but people are mocked for it no reason.
More people in The Netherlands should see this. We are so caught up in having the perfect house, a perfectly maintained garden, the newest kitchen, the biggest tv and WiFi MUST be perfect everywhere. When you don’t have solar panels installed, people will almost dislike you for it. It does not make any sense, chasing an impossible goal of the perfect life. This video puts things in perspective and shows that you don’t need everything to live a good life.
It is how people really live. It's just not shown in the media and the internet because people see it as shameful and poor. I grew up similarly to this is Los Angeles, California. I am proud of how I grew up 😊
Agree to disagree. In Russia 50 thousand people (mostly men) die from alcohol every year. And that just official stats on deaths directly connected to alcohol: poisoning, chronic alcoholism, cirrhosis. Indirectly few hundred thousand die from it every year. Living standards like these affect psychological health a lot, and since there's almost no treatment of depression in Russia, people use alcohol.

Makes me remember that a single family detached house is not the norm & I'm lucky. Even in my state/area, yes probably 55% live in a house but there's people in efficiencies/group homes/boarding houses. My house is old & I'm constantly doing work on it (invested in a LOT of tools) but it's huge, a big fenced in yard & I can have so many animals (the best part of it - my cuddlebutts).
Instead of “not everyone” I would say “the absolute minority of privileged elite” actually live in rich houses in LA. It is totally normal to have a small place to live if you are not a celebrity or a politician. Or Ilon Musk.
I lived in a 12 storey apartment block in Warsaw and friends would say, 'ugh, these places were all the same, nothing was individual', but then we all bought our 'individual' furniture at Ikea! Those lovely tulips and your happy family make a home.

I wish most people would realize this is how 90% of the world lives, this is real life. Apartments like this (not always as big in size building wise) are all over America, in every big and small city and suburbs as well. I think people watch too much tv and social media and have forgotten what is REAL. An apartment this size in America would be quite expensive especially if you could walk/take public transportation.
I mean... I don't understand what else do people expect. This is a pretty normal apartment, most of my friends and relatives that I ever knew lived like this. The most common problem in post-soviet apartments, just like shown in the video is, the building itself is old and the corridors are trashed due to poor maintenance. But apart from that, people have freedom to furnish their apartments and keep them in good shape.

I live in an eastern european country that has been under russian opression from 1945 to 1990, and i have the "luck" to live in such a soviet-built apartment building-shithole. First of all, a big FUCK YOU goes to all the soviet party secretaries that ruled our asses for 45 years and made us build these shitholes instead of normal detached houses (which by the way literally could have been built everywhere in my country considering the population size of our cities, except maybe for our capital town) that would have been a gazillion times better to be living in. Secondly, the MAIN problem with these socialist shitholes is the total lack of upgradeability. Even plastic windows don't come standard that fit each type of these fucking buildings, not to mention each and every one of them has aluminum electrical cables, tin plumbing that always breaks down, ungodly smelling garbage chutes, rats in the basements (oh btw all of these older blocks have long corridor-like basements that go down sometimes even 2 stories below, and all function as air raid shelters with natural convection-type ventilation, maybe the only positive that can be said about these buildings, but if it's not wartime then i can stick all this shit up my ass), and if made from prefabs, and not conventional bricks, then it is impossible to heat because so much waste thermal energy goes right through the walls. Luckily some of them are already deemed dangerous to live in and they started to bring them down here.

I agree. It really looks like a nice and cozy place. I have a similar kind of place, and I wash my dishes by hand too, I also don't have a dishwasher. I live alone, which is the only difference between me and her, but I like it that way. But since she seems to be happy to have a boyfriend and baby (or was it husband, I can't remember), then she is lucky to have that.

In the US this apartment would be considered "ghetto" or one of those areas that's dangerous to live in. Nothing wrong with living in them. It's just interesting that different countries have their own definition of "nice"

I know what she means about all that big furniture they are not using, and cant do anything with because it is the owners! some people dont need all of those big closet/armoire looking things, too bad she could not see if the owner would let some other renter haul them to their apt?? but then they could not rent it as "furnished" smh.

Apart from the fact you never get an insight like this - once I've read a story about a photographer, who went to the same place for almost 3 years just to take one picture of a very rare species...no matter how vividly it was described, one can never appreciate that determination/sacrifice/craziness/whathaveyou until going through something similar. So, though I know what you meant, only those coming from similar circumstances can really dig it...it works for a second or two, but then it wears off...I mean, so many of us have plenty of our table but rarely we feel ashamed when throwing stuff into garbage, despite knowing so many cannot even afford that little...

But that wasn't the point of my comment to begin with :) i just wanted to point out that i prefer this way to learn about other cultures. For example other peoples opinion about a culture might come from movies etc. But movies (in most cases) are very artificial. They are directed. But tiny bits and pieces of the life of a person just showing her Appartement on youtube for example will show you a much more authentic portrait of that culture.
Several thoughts. The baby is so precious, such a cute family. She has some of the best eyebrows I’ve ever seen. The apartment is so cool, so much storage and vintage items. I think it’s so interesting to see other cultures and the way they live.

People may think that because we live in the USA everyone lives in palatial homes like you see on instagram, Pinterest and other social media, but the truth is most of the people live in lower income housing, you just rarely see that. We are a very materialistic and superficial society, and very class divided. I love my country but it needs a lot of work. I was raised in America. We live in the deep south. There were three of us kids. I grew up in a mobile home surrounded by cotton fields and rice fields, in a town of less than 200 people. I guess we didn't have lots of money or fancy things. I can tell you what I did have. I had love. I had parents who made sure of that. I had a beautiful mama who cooked amazing meals. I had parents who laughed and danced in the kitchen. I also had the smell of honeysuckle wafting into my bedroom because I slept with the window open. I had homemade ice cream and black berry cobbler when we went berry picking. I had fireflies. I had summers filled with friends, bare feet, popsicle mustaches. Those things are what kids remember, not the price of the house they grew up in. I'm 54 years old now. Both my parents have passed away. I cherish all the memories they gave me. To this day, whenever I feel sad or scared, my mind still goes back there. Those are my roots. That's who I am.
What truly amazing memories your parents created for you. I'm sure that anyone with a childhood such as yours would feel exactly the same. Smaller townships are also usually closer too because the whole town takes on the raising of each of the children so that none miss out on the good things in life, and also assist when the burden may be heavy. I lived in a village similar to that size during a period when my son was in his teens, and it was truly a blessing to share the raising of our children when one wasn't on the spot to deal with an infringement at the time. :)

From the Eastern-European point of view this represents a pretty decent standard of living. I know families who share similar flats with their older generations, live squeezed into single bedrooms with kids, or whose kids of different sex share tiny bedrooms until they move out. Many people don't have bedrooms, they sleep on couches in their living rooms. So I don't think this video shows the "trying to cope with what I 've got in the best possible way" attitude, but a very balanced picture of what living in Russia means.

@@mentiquebakabila4254 Grew up in a small house where the "living" room was also the shared bedroom, with my parents. The toilet was in the back yard, outside, and no running water in the house, only in the yard, wich meant gathering it in bottles and pans to have some inside, and warm it up on the stove to have warm water. The kitchen was also used as the place to bathe in. It was all charming as a small child, but growing into my teenage years it became suffocating and embarassing (I did not want most people from school to know where I lived, because this was not the standard even then - so I even took side streets home from school, when I felt followed by curious friends)
@@cineturon Almost Same here when I was a little kid me and my parents lived in the house of my grandparents from my father side of the family had to move out from our house beacuse there was 7 people living in it and it was quite small,so we moved to another village to my grandparents from my mothers side,it was so much fun as a kid but you know as time went on my father got better jobs and the house and living condition and such improved so it wasnt that bad but until i was like 9 we were pretty poor,I live in Hungary in the 2nd poorest county

Looks like you’ve made a home here….may not be your dream home but you have the basics and a lot of people don’t. These apartment buildings have been there longer than Putan. Typical apartment, all built by the same design, building after building, not handicap friendly. Most are assigned to you for free if you apply once you start your first job. You get moved to a large one when you have children. 1st floor or 5th floor, not your choice.
Growing up in the Eastern bloc, the best thing about these buildings were that when they were built young families were able to buy them (with mortgage of course) to start their lives. My parents were 21 and 23 when we moved in, I was born a few weeks later. Yes, my mom moved when 9 months pregnant. Who gets which apartment was decided on something like a lottery. Every family was young (80 apartments in one building) so all the kids were the same age. We had a blessed childhood growing up and playing on those playgrounds.
That’s true! We had a lot of children there on the playground when I was a kid. We lived in the same type of building and hanging out with all the neighbors was a very cool experience in the childhood☺️
So true. Summers were the best. All the neighborhood kids would come out in the morning and we would play until dark. So many friendships! So much drama! So much activity - climbing trees, soccer, badminton. Our parents would yell our names from the balcony to come eat lunch. I was never really hungry as a kid though, haha. Also, there was also a break at 5-6pm for an hour to watch Santa Barbara with our grandmothers. The happy days.
Your family is happy, healthy, and safe that's all that matters. A shame that so many of us forget this. Keep making videos about Russia, people need to see the other side that isn't always in the media.
I am American and your apartment looks like a good starter apartment for a young couple. I realize American media presents us as all being very materialistic, and some of us definitely are, but not all. Having what you need to begin with is the important part, you can accumulate luxuries along the road of life if you want.

@@crystalwolcott4744 I can't tell you from personal experience but we have these buildings in eastern Germany too (it's called "Plattenbau" and you can see a lot of it in Berlin). They were all build on the idea to standardize housing (actually a great idea about trying to fit many people on lesser land) so the basic design of the apartments is similar but the exact outline might differ. I don't have a lot of experience with it myself but I know that my parents for example can recognize those kind of apartments in an instant.

@@willsinternet I live in post-communism country Czechia, we have lots of those buildings, but we are now western country, so these buildings are modernised, elevators are safe, they are friendly to imobilised people some have included garage etc. Such apartment now cost here around 150k $$ so it is pretty popular living due to low necessity of maintainance and thanks to density of people there are around lots of shops and great public transportation. For young families is usually option before suburb living in small house having every shop or restaurant far away
Yes, I was thinking that as well! Because of trying to create a lot of housing and apartments in a very quick time during the Soviet Union, and that it has been a while since they were built, the buildings might not be in the perfect conditions, but where I live in California, an apartment this size might be a few thousand dollars a month, and the only difference from what I could see is that the ones here might have a bit of a better elevator, but the conditoin looked pretty similar to some of the older apartment complexes in LA. Honeslty, with how quick these kind of buildings were built in the soviet union, its impressive how long they are able to last. :)

If their basic needs are met and their not going hungry, it's usually not until they get older when they will see how other kids from school live, do they even realize that they are low income. And because I was one of those kids myself, it really made me appreciate everything that my parents did to provide for me and made me thankful for what we did have because there is always someone out there who has it worse. As much as some people complain about the USA, there are many programs to help families with their basic living expenses. Such as Food stamps, WIC that provides formula, bread, cheese, milk, fresh fruits and vegetables, HUD that will pay a portion of your rent. Medicaid that will provide low cost to no cost health insurance. Welfare which is cash assistance. HEAP that helps pay heating and cooling bills. I don't know all of the different programs but there is definitely ways to survive if a family has fallen on hard times. My only issue is that these should be used as safety nets and not as a generational way of life.

I lived in a two bedroom house with my sister parents and grandfather. My parents put some curtains up and used the dining room as their bedroom. There were no walls or doors for them. My father worked over night and mother worked all day. Grandfather was too ill and elderly. You do what you need to do to make it work and that includes living within your means and being more minimalist. I agree with you 100% I didn’t realize this wasn’t normal until older. We had food and clothes. We were clean. Our parents loved us. Now 20 years later i know my parents gave up a lot to keep our family together.
I've done photoshoots of over 17000 houses and condos/apartments in the last 30 years, this is very common everywhere, even in Canada. It's REAL life. Love the video, it's refreshing as others have said. In my line of work I see the before and the after and what we see on tv and in photos is not REAL life.

Most Australians live in big houses, even in Sydney and Melbourne CBD there are houses for sale. Price is reasonable in term of income, i own a house in CBD
It's interesting to observe how similar people's lives can be. I also want to point out (with out any ill intent whatsoever) that her particular home has extremely well preserved almost the original interior like chairs cabinets wardrobe etc. This shows how well people from the former soviet union take care of their homes.
Honestly, most of the famous TH-camrs are rich, so we see luxurious homes and we forgot that most of us live in normal homes, so when we see ordinary homes on TH-cam, we get surprised... that social media really play with our minds
I see all sorts of homes on You Tube; rich, average, poor, very poor, etc. That's one thing about You Tube. You can showcase just about anything you want. I've seen people cooking in the woods, on the floor, and in million dollar homes. There's a bit of everthing on You Tube. No sense in pretending that only the rich showcase and that somehow we are being deprived of a real experience.

Also, when I was visiting NYC I slept in a hostel in Bowery district and it was the worst place I've ever slept in. There was a big space with wooden "walls", the "room" itself was just like a prison cell, only two beds and bed bugs, not even electricity available in a "room". Such a strange city in this term

And city centers are mainly low rise old buildings. So no, not the same in France.

I moved 27 times by the time I turned 16. I’ve lived in ALL kinds of houses, so I know from first-hand experience that You just make the best of what you can afford and what is available and stay positive.

The funding and workload required to get plumbing and electrical to houses built outside the city is prohibitively expensive. Instead, it’s cheaper to construct apartments in undeveloped areas in or nearby the city, as they build upwards and can accommodate hundreds of people. It’s a simple socioeconomic issue - most people don’t have the income to afford new housing construction.

The income doesn’t satisfy the payment in Russia and logistically, it doesn’t make sense right now. If they build houses outside the city, they need shops and groceries. It’s an exponential infrastructure issue - nations have overcome this by federal subsidies funded by taxpayers but Russia’s government is “kinda” (more like completely) corrupt and take a lot of money (from taxpayers) to oligarchs that threaten violence and civil unrest to the government. So people pay in to the government from their hard-earned money and can’t spare enough for their own personal fulfillment.

In the U.S. they didn't have standards for making buildings accessible for strollers and wheelchairs until fairly recently. Never apologize for where you live! I think it's fascinating. My wife and our children live in the Columbia Basin in Washington State. Watching this video made me feel very blessed, wealthy, and ungrateful.... Yes, I lived in apartments very similar in NYC when in my 20’s and 30’s and didn’t like the less-beautiful and not-chosen aspects. Yet, was so happy to have found a place with more than two rooms, and near the subway and a park ...looks like it’s not so different between US city & Russian city

I agree, TV is unrealistic they never show how people really live, it gives everyone a bad perception, of what real life is all about. I moved out my trailer due to the sewage coming back up into my house, the smell was atrocious and dangerous. I also had to retire from my good paying job, since I couldn't afford to take care of myself or anything due cost of living. So I'm working part time, just to cover my bills. I also had to get medicade to take care of my health.

A good attitude and making the best of whatever situation you are in will allow you to have a joyful life regardless of things not being just or even near to what you really want.
Many people have really nice houses in America and many people do not. Lots of people who have great houses, cars, vacations, etc. are very unhappy and only want more. Literally, and many affordable housing around the world looks very similar to this as well. Many of my friends live in council flats here in London that have a similar appearance, but people are mocked for it no reason.

More people in The Netherlands should see this. We are so caught up in having the perfect house, a perfectly maintained garden, the newest kitchen, the biggest tv and WiFi MUST be perfect everywhere. When you don’t have solar panels installed, people will almost dislike you for it. It does not make any sense, chasing an impossible goal of the perfect life. This video puts things in perspective and shows that you don’t need everything to live a good life.
It is how people really live. It's just not shown in the media and the internet because people see it as shameful and poor. I grew up similarly to this is Los Angeles, California. I am proud of how I grew up 😊

Agree to disagree. In Russia 50 thousand people (mostly men) die from alcohol every year. And that just official stats on deaths directly connected to alcohol: poisoning, chronic alcoholism, cirrhosis. Indirectly few hundred thousand die from it every year. Living standards like these affect psychological health a lot, and since there's almost no treatment of depression in Russia, people use alcohol.

Even in my state/area, yes probably 55% live in a house but there's people in efficiencies/group homes/boarding houses. My house is old & I'm constantly doing work on it (invested in a LOT of tools) but it's huge, a big fenced in yard & I can have so many animals (the best part of it - my cuddlebutts).

I wish most people would realize this is how 90% of the world lives, this is real life. Apartments like this (not always as big in size building wise) are all over America, in every big and small city and suburbs as well. I think people watch too much tv and social media and have forgotten what is REAL. An apartment this size in America would be quite expensive especially if you could walk/take public transportation.

The most common problem in post-soviet apartments, just like shown in the video is, the building itself is old and the corridors are trashed due to poor maintenance. But apart from that, people have freedom to furnish their apartments and keep them in good shape.

I live in an eastern european country that has been under russian opression from 1945 to 1990, and i have the "luck" to live in such a soviet-built apartment building-shithole. First of all, a big FUCK YOU goes to all the soviet party secretaries that ruled our asses for 45 years and made us build these shitholes instead of normal detached houses (which by the way literally could have been built everywhere in my country considering the population size of our cities, except maybe for our capital town) that would have been a gazillion times better to be living in. Secondly, the MAIN problem with these socialist shitholes is the total lack of upgradeability. Even plastic windows don't come standard that fit each type of these fucking buildings, not to mention each and every one of them has aluminum electrical cables, tin plumbing that always breaks down, ungodly smelling garbage chutes, rats in the basements (oh btw all of these older blocks have long corridor-like basements that go down sometimes even 2 stories below, and all function as air raid shelters with natural convection-type ventilation, maybe the only positive that can be said about these buildings, but if it's not wartime then i can stick all this shit up my ass), and if made from prefabs, and not conventional bricks, then it is impossible to heat because so much waste thermal energy goes right through the walls.
Luckily some of them are already deemed dangerous to live in and they started to bring them down here.

I agree. It really looks like a nice and cozy place. I have a similar kind of place, and I wash my dishes by hand too, I also don't have a dishwasher. I live alone, which is the only difference between me and her, but I like it that way. But since she seems to be happy to have a boyfriend and baby (or was it husband, I can't remember), then she is lucky to have that.

Apart from the fact you never get an insight like this - once I've read a story about a photographer, who went to the same place for almost 3 years just to take one picture of a very rare species...no matter how vividly it was described, one can never appreciate that determination/sacrifice/craziness/whathaveyou until going through something similar. So, though I know what you meant, only those coming from similar circumstances can really dig it...it works for a second or two, but then it wears off...I mean, so many of us have plenty of our table but rarely we feel ashamed when throwing stuff into garbage, despite knowing so many cannot even afford that little...

But that wasn't the point of my comment to begin with :) i just wanted to point out that i prefer this way to learn about other cultures. For example other peoples opinion about a culture might come from movies etc. But movies (in most cases) are very artificial. They are directed. But tiny bits and pieces of the life of a person just showing her Appartement on youtube for example will show you a much more authentic portrait of that culture.

People may think that because we live in the USA everyone lives in palatial homes like you see on instagram, Pinterest and other social media, but the truth is most of the people live in lower income housing, you just rarely see that. I was raised in America. We live in the deep south. There were three of us kids. I grew up in a mobile home surrounded by cotton fields and rice fields, in a town of less than 200 people. I guess we didn't have lots of money or fancy things. I can tell you what I did have. I had love. I had parents who made sure of that. I had a beautiful mama who cooked amazing meals. I had parents who laughed and danced in the kitchen. I also had the smell of honeysuckle wafting into my bedroom because I slept with the window open. I had homemade ice cream and black berry cobbler when we went berry picking. I had fireflies. I had summers filled with friends, bare feet, popsicle mustaches. Those things are what kids remember, not the price of the house they grew up in. I'm 54 years old now. Both my parents have passed away. I cherish all the memories they gave me. To this day, whenever I feel sad or scared, my mind still goes back there. Those are my roots. That's who I am.

What truly amazing memories your parents created for you. I'm sure that anyone with a childhood such as yours would feel exactly the same. Smaller townships are also usually closer too because the whole town takes on the raising of each of the children so that none miss out on the good things in life, and also assist when the burden may be heavy. I lived in a village similar to that size during a period when my son was in his teens, and it was truly a blessing to share the raising of our children when one wasn't on the spot to deal with an infringement at the time. :)

From the Eastern-European point of view this represents a pretty decent standard of living. I know families who share similar flats with their older generations, live squeezed into single bedrooms with kids, or whose kids of different sex share tiny bedrooms until they move out. Many people don't have bedrooms, they sleep on couches in their living rooms. So I don't think this video shows the "trying to cope with what I 've got in the best possible way" attitude, but a very balanced picture of what living in Russia means.

The toilet was in the back yard, outside, and no running water in the house, only in the yard, wich meant gathering it in bottles and pans to have some inside, and warm it up on the stove to have warm water. The kitchen was also used as the place to bathe in. It was all charming as a small child, but growing into my teenage years it became suffocating and embarassing (I did not want most people from school to know where I lived, because this was not the standard even then - so I even took side streets home from school, when I felt followed by curious friends)
@@cineturon Almost Same here when I was a little kid me and my parents lived in the house of my grandparents from my father side of the family had to move out from our house beacuse there was 7 people living in it and it was quite small,so we moved to another village to my grandparents from my mothers side,it was so much fun as a kid but you know as time went on my father got better jobs and the house and living condition and such improved so it wasnt that bad but until i was like 9 we were pretty poor,I live in Hungary in the 2nd poorest county

These apartment buildings have been there longer than Putan. Typical apartment, all built by the same design, building after building, not handicap friendly. Most are assigned to you for free if you apply once you start your first job. You get moved to a large one when you have children. 1st floor or 5th floor, not your choice.
Growing up in the Eastern bloc, the best thing about these buildings were that when they were built young families were able to buy them (with mortgage of course) to start their lives. My parents were 21 and 23 when we moved in, I was born a few weeks later. Yes, my mom moved when 9 months pregnant. Who gets which apartment was decided on something like a lottery. Every family was young (80 apartments in one building) so all the kids were the same age. We had a blessed childhood growing up and playing on those playgrounds.
That’s true! We had a lot of children there on the playground when I was a kid. We lived in the same type of building and hanging out with all the neighbors was a very cool experience in the childhood☺️

So true. Summers were the best. All the neighborhood kids would come out in the morning and we would play until dark. So many friendships! So much drama! So much activity - climbing trees, soccer, badminton. Our parents would yell our names from the balcony to come eat lunch. I was never really hungry as a kid though, haha. Also, there was also a break at 5-6pm for an hour to watch Santa Barbara with our grandmothers. The happy days.

@@crystalwolcott4744 I can't tell you from personal experience but we have these buildings in eastern Germany too (it's called "Plattenbau" and you can see a lot of it in Berlin). They were all build on the idea to standardize housing (actually a great idea about trying to fit many people on lesser land) so the basic design of the apartments is similar but the exact outline might differ. I don't have a lot of experience with it myself but I know that my parents for example can recognize those kind of apartments in an instant.
There are definitely places like this in NYC.. as in they look like they're from eastern Europe during communist times.

@@willsinternet I live in post-communism country Czechia, we have lots of those buildings, but we are now western country, so these buildings are modernised, elevators are safe, they are friendly to imobilised people some have included garage etc. Such apartment now cost here around 150k $$ so it is pretty popular living due to low necessity of maintainance and thanks to density of people there are around lots of shops and great public transportation. For young families is usually option before suburb living in small house having every shop or restaurant far away

Yes, I was thinking that as well! Because of trying to create a lot of housing and apartments in a very quick time during the Soviet Union, and that it has been a while since they were built, the buildings might not be in the perfect conditions, but where I live in California, an apartment this size might be a few thousand dollars a month, and the only difference from what I could see is that the ones here might have a bit of a better elevator, but the conditoin looked pretty similar to some of the older apartment complexes in LA. Honeslty, with how quick these kind of buildings were built in the soviet union, its impressive how long they are able to last. :)

If their basic needs are met and their not going hungry, it's usually not until they get older when they will see how other kids from school live, do they even realize that they are low income. And because I was one of those kids myself, it really made me appreciate everything that my parents did to provide for me and made me thankful for what we did have because there is always someone out there who has it worse.
As much as some people complain about the USA, there are many programs to help families with their basic living expenses. Such as Food stamps, WIC that provides formula, bread, cheese, milk, fresh fruits and vegetables, HUD that will pay a portion of your rent. Medicaid that will provide low cost to no cost health insurance. Welfare which is cash assistance. HEAP that helps pay heating and cooling bills. I don't know all of the different programs but there is definitely ways to survive if a family has fallen on hard times. My only issue is that these should be used as safety nets and not as a generational way of life.

I lived in a two bedroom house with my sister parents and grandfather. My parents put some curtains up and used the dining room as their bedroom. There were no walls or doors for them. My father worked over night and mother worked all day. Grandfather was too ill and elderly.
You do what you need to do to make it work and that includes living within your means and being more minimalist.
I agree with you 100% I didn’t realize this wasn’t normal until older. We had food and clothes. We were clean. Our parents loved us. Now 20 years later i know my parents gave up a lot to keep our family together.
The most important thing in any home is a loving, healthy family.

I've done photoshoots of over 17000 houses and condos/apartments in the last 30 years, this is very common everywhere, even in Canada. It's REAL life. Love the video, it's refreshing as others have said. In my line of work I see the before and the after and what we see on tv and in photos is not REAL life.

Most Australians live in big houses, even in Sydney and Melbourne CBD there are houses for sale. Price is reasonable in term of income, i own a house in CBD
It's interesting to observe how similar people's lives can be. I also want to point out (with out any ill intent whatsoever) that her particular home has extremely well preserved almost the original interior like chairs cabinets wardrobe etc. This shows how well people from the former soviet union take care of their homes.
Honestly, most of the famous TH-camrs are rich, so we see luxurious homes and we forgot that most of us live in normal homes, so when we see ordinary homes on TH-cam, we get surprised... that social media really play with our minds

I see all sorts of homes on You Tube; rich, average, poor, very poor, etc. That's one thing about You Tube. You can showcase just about anything you want. I've seen people cooking in the woods, on the floor, and in million dollar homes. There's a bit of everthing on You Tube. No sense in pretending that only the rich showcase and that somehow we are being deprived of a real experience.
Most You Tuber's live beyond their means. Most are in debt and on credit..

@@celestebell9992 yup, I've been to NYC just to visit but since I'm psycho fan of this city I went online to check how are the renting prices and spaces to let and it was just ridiculous how bad is the standard and the space for such a high price. Also, when I was visiting NYC I slept in a hostel in Bowery district and it was the worst place I've ever slept in. There was a big space with wooden "walls", the "room" itself was just like a prison cell, only two beds and bed bugs, not even electricity available in a "room". Such a strange city in this term

What a sweet girl with such a comforting voice. There's absolutely nothing wrong or ugly about your apartment. There's tons of buildings that look like your in US cities. Also, it's not about the appearance of the apartment, people that judge you based on your home don't deserve to have you in their life. Be happy and enjoy your place..I think its beautiful!

And city centers are mainly low rise old buildings. So no, not the same in France.

I moved 27 times by the time I turned 16. I’ve lived in ALL kinds of houses, so I know from first-hand experience that You just make the best of what you can afford and what is available and stay positive.
One of the greatest pleasures in life is the ability to appreciate the simple pleasures. Not everyone is able to have that. You are blessed. Also, your husband likes to bring you flowers. Who doesn’t like that? I just started to smile.

The funding and workload required to get plumbing and electrical to houses built outside the city is prohibitively expensive. Instead, it’s cheaper to construct apartments in undeveloped areas in or nearby the city, as they build upwards and can accommodate hundreds of people. It’s a simple socioeconomic issue - most people don’t have the income to afford new housing construction.

@@躺平专家 you are correct, the labor and materials are cheaper, but pay is also overall much lower in Russia. 1 Rouble in Russia is equivalent to 1 penny in the USA. The income doesn’t satisfy the payment in Russia and logistically, it doesn’t make sense right now. If they build houses outside the city, they need shops and groceries. It’s an exponential infrastructure issue - nations have overcome this by federal subsidies funded by taxpayers but Russia’s government is “kinda” (more like completely) corrupt and take a lot of money (from taxpayers) to oligarchs that threaten violence and civil unrest to the government. So people pay in to the government from their hard-earned money and can’t spare enough for their own personal fulfillment.

My wife and our children live in the Columbia Basin in Washington State. Watching this video made me feel very blessed, wealthy, and ungrateful.... If you have a roof over your head, have enough food to eat, are warm when it is cold, have plenty of clean water to drink and have the love of your family then you are doing well. Many in the world are not so well off. Have gratitude for what you do have.
