I still love this film. And the designs of the robots still stand up to this day. They look heavy and cumbersome, more realistic than many contemporary huge robot designs.
@@matthewcomben4580 that's because they were designed by the legendary Ron Cobb. He also did Alien, Total Recall, Back to the Future... half of the great American 80s/90s sci-fi vehicles were designed by him and the other half were done by Syd Mead.

@@davidwatts1871 I completely understand but it was one of my all time favorites back when I was a kid. I remembered my parents recorded it onto a VHS tape and I watched it a lot. Up there with Kelly's Heroes.
My mom and dad had this taped on VHS when I was a kid. I've been told I watched this movie so much that I either wore the tape out or they hid it never to be seen again lmao. I was obsessed with robots as a kid and at almost 34 years old I still am lol.
It's awesome that the YT algorithm waited five months to put this video from a channel I'm subscribed to, in my feed. Awesome video and it's fantastic that these things still exist!
Appreciate the nice words about Robojox AKA Robot Jox here. Even the ones not so nice. I worked on the VFX with David Allen and it was a bold attempt with precious little money to carry it off, so it is what it is. As far as I know no one else was as foolish to try to attempt it back then. Pacific Rim did pay homage to it, especially the shot with the Jaeger arms and hands or "Waldos" slapping together on activation. Looking at these models now is like seeing two old friends again. The stop motion smaller versions were pristine and gorgeous. A NY collector has them now.
I thought these where going to be the stop motion figures, but this is just as amazing! The amount of craftsmanship that went into models that would only be seen for seconds in the film is incredible
This is amazing. I just watched the movie again with my daughter last night. Was searching for info about the height of the models used in the film and found this video. Robot Jox was easily my favorite movie as a kid. Thank you so much for posting this video. Beyond awesome. Crash and burn!
Achilles: "Tex... You didn't..." Tex: "Sure as hell did, watch!" I love this movie so much. One of my favorites from the 80's as well. Somebody needs to scan these and get some smaller scale stuff out there for us to buy, print, etc.
I remember seeing the cover so many times in the local video store, but I never actually saw the film until 2015. Yeah, it's not a great film, but I love the miniature work. Those two models are incredible and the amount of cabling! 😲
I just re-watched this movie last week. I don’t know why you keep saying it’s not great. It’s amazing and it holds up. definitely one of my favorite movies of all time.
US toy makers are dormant nowadays, the only chance for cheap affordable top quality toys you could count on is China companies that made the best oversized KO transformers and Joy Toy
Wow.. these bring back memories. I worked for Dave Allen in the 80's when I was a kid (long story) and this movie was the last production I got to be around in his studio. Of course Dave Allen did the the stop motion animation, so the props were not nearly as big as these guys. I wonder what happened to those?
I rented that movie so many times as a kid. The plot was secondary to the awesome robot fights. So cool seeing the props still exist and hopefully go to someone who appreciates them and maybe even restores them.
I hope you get the mechs. They are absolutely beautiful to me. I would like to see them go to someone who love them. That movie was a significant part of my life.🎬👍👍
Ultimate job working on or looking after old movie props and Yer I loved Robotjox as a kid as well, Good luck I hope you might get one in a bid who knows. Those two props look great even so many years later.
Something about Giant robots as a kid and even as a adult it’s just awesome. As a kid I love this movie and must’ve watched 50 times. As an adult an avid model builder these things are just awesome thank you so much for sharing
It's a bad movie, but it's so much fun that I love it anyway. I used to watch it whenever it was on cable. And I remember reading about the models and the sfx work in Starlog magazine, which was what made me want to see the movie in the first place.
Love this movie. It deserves more recognition. Stop saying the movie isn't great. It was, and it's the best fighting fobot movie ever made. You heard me Pacific Rimm
everybody mentions Pacific Rim and Robotech....but not Gundam or G-fighter? This movie was only seen by me once ONCE and i still remember it being what got me hooked on the Mecha craze: Macross, Gundam, Manzinger and the like. Pacific Rim? come on. at least nobody said Gigantor.
My sister & I discovered this in the rental store not too long after it was released, and we drove our mother mad laughing and reciting the bad lines as they came up in the movie. We loved it as a bad movie, but if there hadn't been conflicting visions in the direction/production, you can see there is a decent story and film in the skeletal system of the movie that could have turned out way differently.
Please if you can, buy the Nostromo ! It's a selfish request but I'd love to know that it would be going to someone that would understand it and know how to safeguard it for the future. Especially given to what happened to it before. It is an icon of cinema and an important work of art.
Should be a spoiler alert about the cowboy. What is this talk about this movie not being great? I LOVE this movie and it is one of my all time great movies. The sequel on the other hand is a different story. These mech designs are amazing and still hold up today. They are iconic! It is such a shame we never got any high end model kits or toys of these mechs. If we did. they would be instant buys for me.
Love this movie. One of my favorites when i was a kid. I have an autograph from Gary Graham the actor that plays Achilles in the movie. Looking up the actor to get his name I just found out he just passed away back in January of this year. 😞Crash and Burn Jox buddy 👍
I remember that movie. I enjoyed it just for the robot action scenes. The technology exists now to make actual working robots the size of the props. I have the fully functional Optimus Prime robot from Robosen, I think they could do justice to these robots, too.
I genuinely loved Robotjox. The acting at times is a bit meh....but the story is pretty good and the props/special effects are brilliant! Its sister films were shockingly bad though.
I still love this film. And the designs of the robots still stand up to this day. They look heavy and cumbersome, more realistic than many contemporary huge robot designs.

Also loved this movie as a kid and embraced its terribleness as an adult.
Damn, did not know Gary Graham had passed away. Crash and burn, Achilles.
I loved this movie, it's a shame you can't get a good quality DVD or Bluray of it. This is the Battletech movie we've never had.

True. Sort of like they fitted jumpjets on an Atlas battlemech.
It's not worth £20 on Ebay or Amazon, a fiver maybe.

Arrow Video produced a very nice bluray of it, but it's apart of a boxset and is bundled with Dolls, Cellar Dweller, Dungeonmaster and Arena.
I used to love coming home from school, turning on HBO and watching this film every afternoon.

I loved this movie, it was the closest thing to live action I could get as a kid.
Don't forget the coed showers
I was a dumb kid who also watched animation almost exclusively so if its live action, there better some specials effects and props and cool visuals.
It's awesome that the YT algorithm waited five months to put this video from a channel I'm subscribed to, in my feed.

I think this is one of the few films from that era that if it was remade today would be excellent!

I wish a model company like Bandai or someone would make scale models of these. I'd love to have them displayed with my Pacific Rim Jaegers.
I second the motion!
I definitely third the motion I saw this movie at the theater would love to have a model of both robots to add to my collection of Robotech kits
I'm in on that too.
Yep that would rock!
Hell yes. Ron Cobb mecha!
Closest thing to a MechWarrior/Battletech live action movie.
A real good movie ❤😂❤😂❤❤
Very Cool ! Hes right , Robot Jox wasn’t a great movie , but the mechs were awesome!

Robot Jox was a classic if its time , ok the story was a bit shaky, but the stop go animation and fact it was before CGI it was a fantastic movie

This just unlocked a memory of my dad renting this and us watching it together when I was about 7.
That is freaking awesome!
I don't why my father framed me a poster of this movie in my room, but it I stood there for 10+ years lol
Didn't remember Ron Cobb did those designs. Great stuff.
Joe Haldemann (author of the Forever War) also worked on the script but walked out.
