I used to love Mechwarrior when I was a kid in the 90s, and finding this movie at that time was like one of the greatest childhood joys. I couldn't believe I had never heard of it, it was being played on TV. Of course I was too young to take in any of the problems with the movie, I just loved all the stop motion scenes... And the most impractical, if cool, control scheme in desperate need of back support.

Right? The ways its long body comes down from above reminds me of another 80s classic, Inner Space. Even though it was an action comedy, the mech suit in that movie spooked me. Ah childhood.

If I was a billionaire I would remake this movie, in an exact scene by scene recreation for modern audiences lol. Even toss in some stop motion to truly pay homage.
I remember renting the VHS of this at blockbuster and being enthralled by mighty battle bots. This movie singularly created in me a love for large war bots. From there it was Battletech, Transformers, and Gundam in that order.

I'm from the Soviet Union. We didn’t have Lego then, but we did have plasticine. My friends and I made a lot of robots, including this four-legged monster. Although we were Soviet children, only Alexander had the right to wear a star on his body.

You must be joking hahahaha Simply it can fly doesn't mean they'r more advance. There's no way P51 mustang'r more advance than USS Zumwalt. Size does matter as well. Robojox's Matsumoto 14 has 80ft tall and 200 tons in weight. Gipsy Danger has 260ft tall and 1980 tons in weight.

I saw this as a kid. For me better than any modern Transformers or Marvel type movie today.

I would have lost my mind when I was 10 if we got a whole movie of this instead of 6 minutes. Now we have unlimited CGI and it is meaningless.

so good. innovation of fx film making is up there with star wars in my opinion. such an underrated movie.
Robot jox, Macross and Patlabor are why i love mecha so much..and now at 37, I play Armored Core 6 PVP alot

Love this movie. Favorite growing up. Rented it 20 times or more. As an adult I HATE the flying part, it’s brutally bad and unnecessary.
